While one might think that the main character will become op really fast, he doesn’t. Instead, there is a lot of character development as well as good pacing. While there is a harem, the main character can’t be oblivious, due to the interference of his ancestors, which I personally find amusing/satisfying compared to other harem novels out there.

I started to read this in hope for the next best harem after Moshoku Tensei, but to my disappointment it got so tedious and boring in the current novels. My major problem with this novel is that the MC's harem gets increased so much into the later developments that some of them disappeared into the background like Aria, she barely has any spotlight in the current volumes and same goes for the some of the older harem members. -As much as I like Mr. Lyle which is possible the only strongest point of the story. The harem only progresses whenever Lyle is in his post-growth period where he becomes flirtatious and over-confident which is something that you look for forward to every novel hoping that you might see Mr. Lyle again this time, but now I have read more than 200 chapters and it is still the same situation with Lyle and his harem, he still can't man the hell up when it comes to his harem and even though

Spoiler

Novem becomes shady and suspicious as hell later on. MC still blindly trust her even though she clearly has some kind of relationship with Celes and a mysterious background, but MC is like to hell with it. He is just going with the flow for this one

[collapse]

-And the worst part there's pretty much little to no romance or interaction of MC with his harem later on. It is pretty much politics, rules and government which bores the hell out of me. Most of the things that MC does with his harem happens off-screen, it usually skips to one scene to completely different scene and you will be like "WHAT THE HELL, I WANNA SEE THAT WHY WOULD YOU SKIP IT, I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THERE WITH MC AND HIS HAREM".

-If you are like me where Harem feels like HAREM then don't bother with this. I can only give two stars for Mr. Lyle only because he is pretty much the best thing happened in this novel, but it is a double edged sword. The story becomes and the other characters become so pale compare to Mr. Lyle that you will see yourself pretty much looking forward only to see him again.

RE-EDIT

Real Conclusion:- Okay, after officially reaching the 2nd last volume. I am dropping this novel for good, I changed my rating from 2 to 1 now. Seriously, this novel into the later stages has become frustrating and tedious, MC's harem has increased so much that it is has almost become impossible for me to remember them and the old harem members are forgotten into the background, but the major beef, the major issue that this novel suffers from is NO ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT. In the third last volume, Lyle went through another growth and we had another Mr. Lyle moment and when he was in his post-growth moment, he did something to his harem members such ecchi because they all came out from the tent who were with him at that time red-faced and quite embarrassed and feeling shy. IT IS DAMN OBVIOUS, he did something but as usual it happened off-screen, so we don't have any freaking idea. I hate how author teases you with stuff, actually stuff does happen, but all of that happens off-screen, why? Okay, I am not asking for a full blown hentai, but even some vague words to describe what actually happens is more than enough and it is called HAREM BUILDING which shows that even this late into the story the harem is still as lovey and dovy and attracted to MC as it was in the start, but nope. The pace in the last four volumes are all over the place, the atmosphere takes a 180* turn and transforms into this politics, rules and empire building genre. It is like we are suddenly reading a history lesson and that too step by step about an Emperor. Okay even that I can forgive because the story gotta get serious at some stage, but why Lyle still hasn't matured and man the hell up when it comes to his harem? He is still un-married and to my shock still a goddamn typical jap virg*n even though he owns a harem with more than 20 women. The reason being he refuse to progress his relationship with his women because he is afraid that it might turn into a war full which is full yandere women killing each other. Okay, we get that but that joke is now quite overused this far into the story, we are almost near the end and our MC is still not sure whether the main heroine loves him or not? I did enjoy Mr. Lyle, but now it is pathetic, he still can't do anything without his post-growth character.

Different from most things I read in that I have to read every single word and not just skim the chapters for information. Although he gets a cheat of sorts it isn’t all powerful and he actually needs ability to use it so there isn’t any ‘he was about to die but then his cheat shined in a glorious light’ type things going on. Interactions between the MC and his ancestors have a pretty wide range of emotion and every character in the story has there own sh*t going on... more>> so you don’t have to worry about always seeing things from one perspective. <<less

For those who have not started on Sevens, please, please, please power through the initial chapters.

It might seems slow at first and a tad boring, with all the talking and no action, but it gets better. It gets really good further on.

This is currently one of my favourite LN. It combines, humorous conversations, action, a mysterious back story and arcs that will pull your heart strings.

Furthermore, the way the authour slowly teases the world building, it allows the reader to not be overwhelmed with misc information. You slowly learn about... more>> the world, the good the mystical and the bad. Read it! <<less

It’s an absolutely fantastic novel which has action, adventure, humour, romance and a tiny bit of mystery. The MC is a bit of a wimp in the start but he grows, becomes stronger and noticeably changes.

If you haven’t checked it out yet you should give it a try. If you dropped it at the first few chapters give it another go! I’m sure you won’t regret it. If you do regret it then give me a PM and I’ll apologise and recommend you something else. It's getting a LN now... more>> so we have the cover but it still hasn't been updated for 2 months now. I need more. MORE!
Also, how do we change the title to Seventh? Since apparently that's the actual title. <<less

( ̄▽ ̄) ノ Hello everybody, I really want to share my review on Sevens. (= ̄∇ ̄) ノ I really love sevens, it's my favorite web novel. ( ̄▽ ̄) I'll try to encourage people to read Sevens.

( ̄∇ ̄) ノ Sevens is a story set in Future Fantasy after the apocalypse in Westernized Japan. An Adventurous story full of emotion, and drifted to a bigger story, the "Path of the Emperor". It distances itself from typical Hero vs Demon Type, Straight out Adventurer Series, Reincarnation, World Transfer, Second Chance and Cheats, which... more>> makes Sevens Unique to modern Japanese Novels.

( ̄▽ ̄) / I want to put more words in my review, like talking about its complex literature technique. I also want to point out the similarities between the Japanese novels like 'Is it Wrong to Pick a Girl in a Dungeon', 'Moon-led Journey Across Another World', 'How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom', I'm A Spider, So What?'. The Combination of their elements, core, plot writing and elements were present to Sevens.

( ̄▽ ̄) Here's some Comments, Reaction, Impression and Reviews to Sevens besides Novelupdates:

[https://yoraikun. wordpress. com/7s-chapters/]

[https://translate. google. com. ph/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://ncode. syosetu. com/n3250cl/&prev=search]

( ̄▽ ̄) This is the best novel I've stumbled on, I was just searching for a new novel to read since I got bored to Release that Witch and Arifureta, or should I say I got sick of reading the machine translated chapters of RTW and got scared of reading another machine translated chapters which is Arifureta. In my surprise, I've found an interesting complete Japanese web novel with high ratings and high ranking in Monthly Ranking, and at that time I've filtered the reviews to DATE and my criteria was to read the top 3 recent reviews, and I'll only add them when they have 3 consecutive 4-5 stars, and Sevens Nailed it, it was February when I've decided to read Sevens. Now I regret reading Sevens, the biggest regret that I got was I can't find any novel who can compete against Sevens, I've literally dropped all my reading list and I'm still stuck at re-reading Sevens until now, I'm freaking trapped and I can't freaking move on. Now it's my daily hobby to read Sevens or play games, and my hobby as a treasure hunters of novels, mangas, animes, dramas, movies and games was slowly dying, I still have the skills to hunt but I don't have the motivation to look for more like finding a hidden diamonds

[example of my treasure searched results:|'Gekkou'|'Manuscript Screening Boy and Manuscript Submitting Girl'|'Tabi ni Deyou, Horobiyuku Sekai no Hate Made'|'The Story of a Macaron-Loving Girl Who Lived a Thousand Years Somehow.'|'Three Days of Happiness'|'Ame no Hi no Iris'|'Hikaru ga Chikyuu ni Itakoro..... '|'Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou'| these mentioned novels are Japanese masterpieces, but I just can't read them even though I know that these novels are different to many modern novels out there, it's the curse of Sevens... damn it]

( ̄▽ ̄) ノWhat Sevens gave me was

Intricate Information that never fails to amaze me, there's so much details that I failed to notice before, it took me a long time just to notice them. Sevens, a detailed plot without relying on too much explanation and long content. Sometimes I have to reread some chapters again just to clarify the details I have missed or forgot. Most of them were used as a plot foundation to make the latter part of the story sensible

Implied writing style it was dark, and it was light, Sevens a story makes a reader to think up on their own story in sevens itself, well I've thought the worse and best imagination I can come up with.

Philosophies of the Ancestors and Lyle was freaking amazing, I can't forget how their greatest moments of their lives.

Enthralling Mysterious Foreshadowing an adventurous novel which was actually very mysterious, it all makes sense in the last volumes of the novel.

Intelligent Characters they were so intelligent that I don't get tired of rereading them, they have these Ideas that I never thought, the typical style was thrown out of the window, like the rescuing the targeted Princess was actually a devised plan by the Emperor to ensnare potential King. Or the biggest plot twist ever that led to mass genocide for a single purpose, it was to open the "Path of the Emperor"

Multiple POV It was used decently while showing different characters and their perspective without using them as a cheap reaction pieces unlike most novels out there who reacts afters seeing a gun.

Memorable Characters, damn there's so many characters, but the whole supporting cast can be easily remembered, and they have their own story.

Solid Plot which was carefully written, very planned, sensible. One of the reasons why I like Sevens was it does not use Cheap writings like Mary Sue techniques (eye rolling Perfect MC like Kirito) Deus ex Machina (just out of picture rescue without any sense)

Intelligent and Realistic Discussions of the Ancestors which was my favorite in the novel, they showed their wisdom and knowledge that gave me some Ideas how noble thinks.

Character development the biggest reason why it is praised by the readers, even the supporting characters have developed, especially Aria.

Realistic Kingdom Building and Development which is absent to popular kingdom novels (I don't wanna mention but you know the popular ones right?) Maoyuu was able to nail it like Sevens, like showing the realistic adaptability of human populace, example was the development of guns and showing their pros and cons. It even showed how reducing a tax and improving a town in a conquered country would not make the human populace content or happy.

Devious Methods which became the signature characteristics of the Walt House, another reason why I love it so much, they don't use typical style of story Ethics or Machismo, they act through Logical and Calculated strategy, conspiracy and schemes.

Zero to Hero Plot the very reason why I like was the Lyle who was practically Zero from the start, it has a slow build up but his character development was so memorable that there's no fragment of his pathetic past.

Epic Ending, I have no words of praise that deserves the Ending of Sevens, the Ending showed its Philosophical Side which was not used to most novels, this is also the sole reason why I can't move one, it was so epic and poetic whenever I reread it along with my music playlist (nZk youtube) I get goosebumps.

Sevens was not perfect by any means, but it was a carefully planned novel with a direction to take without dragging its story, no wish-fulfillment fantasy or cheap writing. Wai / Mishima Yomu was a genius who practically wrote Sevens with one chapter per day in Syosetu, much faster than Yoraikun's Translation process, and she finished it for only a year.

( ̄~ ̄) But there's also undeserved criticism, as much as I don't want to force this novel to others, I really hate those pretentious critics who didn't finish the novel and made discouraging and unjustified reviews.

(; ̄Å ̄)First of all, there are 345+ chapters, yet most of them has dropped it 'below 9th volume/before reaching chapter 137' with their unjust claims. There's so much complicated details like solid plot foundation, implied dark content and mysterious foreshadowing, and most of people who dropped this have failed to notice these complicated details and mostly they claim that the MC was dense or indecisive, yet they are the ones who can't understand the web novel itself.

(# ̄Д ̄;)Those immature readers should only read immature content rather than showing their immature side for not appreciating Sevens from the beginning, if they can't stand 'Zero to Hero' plot style, they should just read novel for their wish-fulfillment fantasies filling their heads with s*upidity. They can only look at the main character and while ignoring the whole picture, I really hate it when they are the ones who've failed to notice how Sevens has showed realism throughout the story. Sevens is not a bragging overpowered reincarnated protagonist who can easily get women with no personality by showing their laughable powers by destroying s*upid fodders. And most novels starts with overpowered protagonist by justifying them through reincarnation (which makes them technically pe*ophile) world transfer or second chance, and most of these protagonist are either loser from their past, yet none of these easy to predict tropes were present in Sevens.

( ̄ヘ ̄) ┌ I can't recommend sevens if you're not used to Beta Protagonist, who's practically indecisive when it comes to Woman. Although you'll miss his other persona, Mr. Lyle, the alpha version of Lyle.

( ̄ヘ ̄) /I can't recommend this web novel if you don't like annoying teachers, the Ancestors which were practically making all the decisions for the MC's goal. Well their advises can be disapprove by Lyle, but most of their decision are rational and intelligent that Lyle can't oppose their factual remarks, and they will only retort naive or foolish to Lyle if he talks back.

(# ̄д ̄;) ノAgain if you can't stand intelligent discussion and realistic kingdom building then don't read Sevens. There's so many intelligent reasoning in Sevens, but many failed to notice it from the beginning, like, 'blackmailing schemes' or 'spreading false rumors'. Sevens might have been misunderstood as an Adventurer series where most stories involves Monster Slaying as its core. Its very core story was Empire Building through devious methods, a story of trickery and treachery. The real story starts at 'Chapter 92 Volume 6'. So if you're planning to read Sevens, read it up to 92, if you can't enjoy or love it, then dropped Sevens. Though Volumes 5-8 were actually transition to the very core of the story. Chapter 137 Volume 9 is the Beginning of the Conquest where Wars, Strategy, and many more that involves conquering are showing up. "Sevens" can be subtitled to "Path of the Emperor".

( ̄д ̄) ㄏNow I really discourage reading Sevens if you're not used to 'Implied Setting'. Implied setting and writing in 'Sevens' is the possibly the biggest downside for normal or casual readers, there's so much ongoing events in Sevens but wasn't written in detail, here's some list of written in implied form:

Rape, there's so much r*pe implied in Sevens. But the most tragic character was one of the Ancestor, the girl he fell in love was r*ped and killed by hanging her... damn. He got his revenge by beheading the ones who did it. His daughter whom he sent off as a political bride was r*ped, tortured and was treated as a s*ave, and when he learned it, he burned down the whole mansion of the groom and he took some women without sins as his s*aves.

Genocide, is another implied setting but hard to imagine and it was implied to the point of not disturbing readers, but seriously it's basically playing lives, for the protagonist it's only giving false hope by providing poison water to the needy, resulting to a slow death of his enemies. But for the antagonist, genocidal r*pe where woman were treated as trophies in war a reason why there's a mass su*cide, mass starvation which led to cooking humans and cannibalism, mass grave where people was force to build their own graves to be buried alive, mass disease and famine, and torture prison camps where children and woman being r*ped, and men used for human experiments. All these mentioned genocides was only implied. The numbers of deaths has at least reached 3 millions+, and they were only mentioned in few sentences without mentioning them in details. And that's for the dark implied setting.

( ̄~ ̄) ㄏFor the protagonist side, it's the:

Training, many people have failed to notice it, some people where just spouting nonsense about deus ex machina trope where the MC is only lucky without getting trained was able to defeat bandits and monster, this implied setting was already mentioned before hand before Lyle was able to fight. Lyle trains inside the Jewel, it might not be detailed, but just think every time he sleeps, he trains himself inside the jewel.

Slice of Life Interaction, you might wonder why is this included, there's so much interaction and slice of life moments, but it's lacking, Sevens was a balanced plot, but sometimes it lacks when it comes to these kind of things that the author writes it on 'I leave it in your Mind'. But here's an example:

Spoiler

Aboard the ship headed for Cartaffs, under the light of the moon... granted, using lanterns as well, we were engrossed in conversation.

The experiences of the standard adventurers I didn't usually come in contact with- Erhart's party- and Maksim-san's knight situation in Bahnseim, on top of Damien's blazing passion for breasts... the bag of seeds for conversation never ran dry.

And it came around to my turn.

"Eva's, you know, her style, and showing off her body, it's all part of business, you see. So she seriously looks after her figure. I do think her form is amazing, but on the other hand, she's completely calm if you accidentally spy her naked. I'm wearing undergarments, so it's fine; gives off that sort of feeling. Clara isn't mindful of that sort of embarrassment either, and she's pretty defenseless, but even if you caution her, her reaction's just something like, '... so... ?' Even if we're living together, it rarely gets my heart racing. On the contrary, for the ones with high guards like Novem and Miranda, when you occasionally see them when they've come out of the bath, that defenseless gap is more effective, you hear."

[collapse]

See, there's only brief explanation about their interaction. It's a big turn off for those who aren't used to this kind of setting. You have to imagine what's happening to him, but this is also one of my reasons why I like Sevens. Unlike graphic series where you were only have to read, the author in Seven interacts through her writing and makes her readers think.

Romantic Moments, another reason why people are complaining, or rather it really lacks romantic moments, to most harem members, the only notable love story I can only complement was Aria and Vera, they have at least decent amount of romantic interaction to Lyle. For barely passing, it would be Miranda and Novem, but what I'm talking about was the written content, so if you're going to think or imagine their romantic interaction, you'll grin and laugh especially in Sevens Gaiden. Each harem members has their own characteristics, and you can easily come up an interaction between in your imagination, but that's a problem for those who can't imagine, there's various successful work and popular work which relies on graphic story telling, and if you're new to Sevens but used to popular novels or series, then you'll not enjoy it since you're not used to imaginative and interactive writing style. But don't worry, there's Mr. Lyle who's providing memorable romantic moments, his cataphrases are sure kill.

(; ̄ェ ̄)/The most Complicated implied setting was the Empire Building elements. :

Empire Building, probably the hardest to talk about in a review, Sevens is implied when it comes to Army Building, Politics, Royalty, Wars, Aristocracy, Domestic Affairs, Industrialization, Kingdom Building, Kingdoms Leadership, Management, Nobles, Power Struggle

While most of them were explained and discuss thoroughly, if the MC was taught about it, then they will not repeat any of it and it will leave the readers 'Ah he already knows what he's doing' while it seems plausible since it does not repeat the plot style. But as a result, I can't blame some people who can't understand what was happening when they've failed to notice it, even I too didn't notice it from first-time reading Sevens, I've only notice it after re-reading Sevens for 4-months, and I'm talking how hard it is to notice these small details, while people will only talk how Lyle becomes developed, I've seen more than that, but the one who got a good grasp in Sevens was ampzz (a Fan of sevens who comments in complicated form, the what was the implied setting is all about) he pointed out many thing, his imagination exceeded mine, also he answers in a logical manner to those hater and troll comments in yoraikun's site. There's so much discussion it takes a chapter just about a certain topic, after discussing the next chapter would be the result of what they've discussed with implied execution of process, rather than making the story long, it was made shorter. If Sevens would be written in graphic style, the chapters would reach up to 700+.

」 ( ̄▽ ̄」) Ok that's enough for the complicated discouraging reasons, the only purpose of my review was to encourage people, ( ̄▽ ̄) ノ The Poetry and Philosophies of Lyle and his Ancestors was the biggest reason I fell in love with Sevens. Especially the moments when Lyle decided to take his path, the "Path of the Emperor" (Don't Worry it's not a full blown Spoiler)

And many of those that have chosen to follow you shall perish as well. So you must stand atop that mountain of friend and foe. Don't forget the point you're aiming for is one made of death upon death.』

"I'm doing it because I have to. It's not like I'm fighting because I like to. If I don't, the continent will be stormy... if I ended it as beating down Bahnseim, then I'm sure the surrounding nations will chip away at its weakened state. In that case, an era of war will descend upon us."

Sevens Epilogue

Spoiler

One step. Another... a red carpet was draped down the steps to the throne.

I could see my seat over the corpses that paved my way.

The red carpet looked like blood to me.

As I climbed up to such a height, I was certain I was the grand villain. From the world's point of view, it wouldn't be strange if they thought I had used my own sister to drop the Bahnseim Kingdom and take it for myself.

Normally, playing the hero and leaving once everything was over may have been cooler.

But I couldn't do that.

I had my promises.

And I couldn't run from the responsibility of all those I had killed.

I had climbed so high by killing so many.

Climbing to the top, I saw the seat. The throne. Having walked so far, I turned to take a seat, ending up looking down over all.

I was sure I was going to offer the rest of my life to governing them. Even I had to wonder why I'd made such a choice.

It was just as Milleia-san said. Build up a mountain of corpses and sit on the throne.

The representatives who voiced their loyalty to me.

"We shall come under the rule of the empire, and pledge our allegiance to the emperor."

I'll devote all that remains of my life. It may not be much as compensation, but for however long it buys us.

"I am delighted at your pledge. I shall devote this body- young as it is- to be a good lord to all. I ask that you help support up this empire with me."

If you think you are going to have some hot action harem, then so far... there is not much. Sure he has collected lots of girls but as the progress in their relationship, aside from minor embarrassments, there is very little.

Though, the story itself is quite good in my opinion. There is some "tediousness" I find when dealing with the ancestors' lessons but they are actually make the readers think about certain aspects one would usually not think about in an adventure/fantasy genre.

It handles the micro but still lacking... more>> the macro, but I am still at the very early stages of the story and so far it is still quite interesting. He is at his learning phase, from an ignorant heir to an adventurer, though the progress of his learning is quite slow... but if you look at it in a realistic standard, its not even 1 year (ch 68) since he has been kicked out of the house. I'm not sure why other readers are expecting him to know every thing about the world within 6-8 months of being locked in a room, and ignorant of pretty much everything. <<less

First couple volumes were a couple rough to get through, but it suprisingly gets better after about the third volume keeping me hooked. It's more often than not the other way around or quality remains about the same.

So, what does this novel do right in my opinion?
Overall strong character development.
Original exiled setting.
Not a spineless MC.
Like, seriously, I cannot stress this enough.

So what does this novel do wrong in my opinion? Too often you'll see something new and the author will play it off as "It just... more>> developed" or "Got it some time ago when nothing interesting happened". Sounds like poor planning to me.

Too many good coincidences...

Novem being so secretive and lyle not giving many f*cks is understandable, but it does not change the fact that it is pissing me off.

Worth a read? If you can stomach the first chapters the rest won't disappoint. <<less

The MC is likable enough and his chemistry with the girls are enjoyable too but the best part of the novel is the interaction of the MC and his ancestors. Still it is more focused on the quest rather than the harem, so if you hesitant because it's a harem then don't worry.

The reason I read is the synopsis. And just like the synopsis, the start is awesome. Kinda boring in some of the early chapter after the start with ancestor complaining and Lyle's own dull head. But Mr Lyle makes everything awesome. And now it's keep getting better and better even without Mr. Lyle showing up his face, because finally our Lyle has grown up. Well that's what growth is, I guess?

This story has different taste than the others and I think it’s a wonderful thing. Some might think the pace is slow but in my opinion it’s a fun ride. If you haven’t read it you should try a bite. Finish at least one volume before you jugde it :9

I want to give it 4.9/5

Just stated in the Prologue, it has Double Standards. Maybe you’ll find it a little bit hard to match your interest, but just hold your horse, it’ll get better! MC personality was rather hard to stomach at first, but will gradually change as the story follows. And also, there is the comedy, 'mr. Lyle' was waiting to make your day!

I recommend it, so I declare!

I love it. It starts a bit slow but that helps you get an idea of Lyle's situation. It picks up quickly once it gets going and the characters are interesting and fun. Absolutely recommend you at least give it a shot.

This is a SLOW developing story. But it is fun if you can get thru the first few chapters. Romance is there, but it seems only one girl so far while others are all tagging along to gain his love. The plot is unique in which he needs an army to fight his sister who is a monster that will destroy the land or he can run away and live a peaceful life in some other country.....

Spoiler

The catch is the army must be made of women who can resist his sisters charm.

[collapse]

Guided by his 7 ancestors he learns new skills and abilities over time. There are several plot twists and the MC is a bit of your typical Japanese MC but grows with time.

Read following spoiler at own risk, major major spoiler....... again do not read if you want to remain clueless.

Last warning major spoiler.

Seriously this is a MAJOR spoiler..........

Spoiler

anyone who has started to read Sevens Gaiden (the sequel to this) knows he winds up with 25 wives, so the harem route is definitely a go. Still going to be a fun read knowing this to see how it all worked out and what he gained and how he developed.

[collapse]

At times the dialog of the Ancestors is a pain to read when they are arguing, I actually skipped some of it at times as it was long winded. BUT there are times like when the MC levels up it is a pure delight to read and makes me laugh so hard. Best of Lyle award.... need I say more lmao. 4/5 -1 for long winded arguments. <<less

Mr. Lyle is the best. Seriously, great web novel worth reading just for Mr. Lyle. The plot is overly simple about brother-sister fight, it gets complicated when several ancient people

God kill me, the harem character its s*upid, the premise of making it also s*upid, and the premise of maintaining it is also s*upid.

The protagonist is like a vegetable/potato, weakling boy who coward against female, if you are female or vegetable male maybe you can read it with smile all the times

The protagonist is basically a boy even until he dead he is a boy, afraid of woman but strangely can fight against enemies who is far scarier. And the author keep making this kind of stories, he/she want to... more>> make a comedy with the male protagonist but the female have more strong personality. The comedy is overused, the joke is good at the beginning but become more and more unbearable at the end. The only way the main protagonist can dominate the all female is when there is a "growth" thing, but its f**king doesnt make sense, what is it anyway. After it happen the male always depressed, yes at the start its funny, but until the end he keep doing that? Just kill me.

I only keep reading to know what is the ending, yes the story is developing from very tr*sh to tr*sh thats funny. If people question why I said all of this, its because this f*cking story doesnt making sense, the protagonist is strong in war and battle etc, but afraid of his harem even his maid robot, kill me please, he cant say one damn thing that show he is the husband/leader/male in front of his harem, he always afraid, run, cowering like a pu*sy until he dead! Can you believe that? If this is comedy, then dont make a serious story goddamit, and also the author keep making this kind of feeling story.

Also the premise of the people saying its zero to hero is s*upid, is hero always the shinning one who have harem but strong in your mind? ITS A FU**KING BOY FOR GODSAKE, he cant make a serious decision about his woman and keep running like a baby, a man? You mean a sissy maybe, yes its develop from zero to boy no hero, you want to read someting about kingdom, hero, and other real serious story read dungeon defense or genjitsushugisha, saying those who rate low is dont know anything show that you the one that dont know anything. The only people who rate this high maybe woman, vegetable man, or a boy/child who doesnt know what a 'real' serious story. Pffft and they say the story is masterpiece, master of half-ass story you mean, even Harry Potter personality is 5 times better than the MC, and thats what you call form zero to hero dumbass. Why not 1 star? Cause the development is good and the character is quite nice (different and unique) but still tr*sh plot, tr*sh protagonist, and tr*sh ending. If you want good story dont read this, if you want to read a comedic+action+harem+s*upid romance+whatever you want doesnt make sense story read this <<less

From all the praises heaped upon this crap novel, I thought this might be a diamond in the rough. Well, to those wondering if it is or isn't - it's not. Same BS you'd find in any other loser Male Protagonist gets a harem LN. Everything falls majestically into his lap and his struggles, the frikk'n few there are, aren't even struggles - rather they are simply rough patches that the deus ex machina plot hasn't been reached yet. Take my word for it and avoid this at all cost... more>> if a good story is what you're after. If pointless harem drivel is what you're after, where the MC gets all the girls because he is *drum roll please* a nice guy (what else is new?), and seem to be the ONLY character in the story with a modern moral compass rather than one similar to the setting of the story - then this novel is for you. Otherwise, AVOID AVOID AVOID! <<less

It's not bad. I suspect how much you like it will depend on your attention & tolerances.

The GOOD:

It's mostly interesting. Some of the attempts at plot twists or humor work well enough.

The BAD:

    1. Before you go and invest in 300+ chapters...
      Spoiler

The ending is pretty borderline bad- 'BAD END' style bad mind you. It starts out and builds up as a story of hope, but then the author decides to muddy it up till it's a far-from-profound tale of selfishness, hypocrisy, and quiet betrayal (At one point the MC intentionally lets his allies die to further his future plans on 'balance'). Also, the ending is a 'pull out your a$$' deus ex nigtmare- laden with fanboi level actions and events.

      1. mana-restriction ignoring super-magic
      2. 'celebrity' appearances and expected 'snappy banter'
      3. the final reveal of the long awaited (but predictable) bs 'twist'
      4. and a whole slew of 'If you could do that, why wait till now- people have died?' It's pretty disappointing, but if you stuck with it that far- maybe you won't notice? The author's hoping so anyways...
        [collapse]
  1. Hypocrisy?- much.
    Spoiler

Yeah- there's a lot of double standards in this. Pretty sure the author is half trolling or just doesn't give a ***. Possibly too dumb to notice himself, though- who knows? Mostly seems like he's lampshading for effect- pointing out the hypocrisy to make a point about war- other times... it just seems dumb.

    [collapse]
  2. Harem?
    Spoiler

This is a faux harem. That means that for the most part, the 'dense protagonist'/herbivore schtick is going to be abused. Not really a spoiler exactly- but I don't want to hear anything from people cause I 'ruined it'.

    [collapse]
    1. Did you come for the 'harem'? Well:
      Spoiler

Sorry to say the author is trolling you/snubbing your desire intentionally. There's even a scene where one of the girls is snuck/forced into his room under the pretext of... well, doesn't matter- the next sentence jumps to the next day totally overlooking the incident nor giving any explanation. Ah- but they do all kiss because of a convenient need due to a skill- and because the author hates you, describing each kiss/the awkwardness/situation is pretty much skipped just to say that it's done. Harem bait is just for suckers- it's a faux harem up to the epilogue at least (A few 'extra' chapters left now...).

      [collapse]
  3. Story/Plotting/Pacing/Tone:: There isn't much exceptional here. If you take any basic 'OP protagonist has to find his way' story, you'll see a lot in common. In fact, the story structure is almost 'ripped off RPG plot arc of the week' only spanning a few volumes at a time, strung together into one supposedly 'epic' form. If you pay attention you'l realize this is another 'made up as the author went along' story, (though with some actual advance planning) - where the author ret-cons/ignores prior developments in favor of newer plot directions.

    1. An endurance match of a read. I don't mean size- more an issue of maintaining interest throughout due to problems with degrading characters, creeping plot treachery & minimally interesting side-plots/'twists'.
    2. I won't even go into the totally self-serving (& actually illogical) reasons innocents have to be dragged into/die for his crazy family BS/random goals. Ah, a lot of innocents die in this for grittiness/'dramatic effect'.
    3. Changes tone about 1/2 way through from 'protag has to get stronger to fight OP villain' into 'politics', 'empire building' & 'the world sure can be dirty, huh?' for flimsy reasons at unwelcome/plot-compromising parts.
    4. The already muddy 'black & white (Good vs Evil) ' story turned 'grey' (Life isn't so simple, hero) turns into 'Most people are shitty deep down' about 3/5 the way through.
    5. So much muddy plotting/development.
      Spoiler

The villain is OP. WAY OP. You know how he MC plans to defeat them? 'Get stronger'. I know that seems like a ret*rded spoiler- but you'll read hundreds of chapters & see that's pretty much it. This sounds like it's not an issue except for the glaring gap in power which appears unapproachable through 'Goku' effort alone. c240 & NO HINT of how to counter ANY aspect of their OP abilities. (That's actually incorrect- there's one hint they found in a dungeon (ignored- too much effort apparently) & the other is right there, but he denies it (because name is in all caps maybe?). In all other respects, he's just 'going through the motions'.)

      [collapse]
    6. So many cliches, actions & events- not even an issue of 'what's stolen', more an issue of 'is something NOT?'. Even so, I will concede it's a somewhat interesting jumble nonetheless.
    7. Plot points develop slowly. Lots of deviations. Many 'secrets' are maintained due to forced 'no interest by the MC'- even when told to investigate by others he trusts. As the plot progresses you learn enough to reasonably think 'no way in hell' could someone not NOTICE/figure these things out/make a tiny bit of effort.
      1. I won't even get into the willfully ignorant, and remarkably scripted treatment of the relationship between Lyle & Novem & their utterly s*upid 'secret-keeping' (read 'the author too that long to decide').
      2. These secrets (when finally revealed) turn out to be partially predictable, plot-convenient nonsense (usually barely indicated/unsupported by the bulk of the story).
  4. Characters:
    1. I won't get into the (green & blue, etc) haired, red, violet (& whatever) eyed anime-envisioned characters that are clearly ripped off stereotypes. It reads as unnatural unless you're accustomed to that mindset (I guess) - but 'whatever'- not a huge point.
    2. The MC is an idiot (written as 'clever'), but also intentionally hobbled by the author to not learn or grow 'because plot'. In fact, comparing the starting character's behavior, and the ending- except for the change in power, there's actually little change (though you're constantly told otherwise).
    3. Too many main 'characters' (no proper focus), most of whom are beyond unoriginal, mostly being stereotypes- and a few who have names too similar to others (and a few of those probably on purpose- not that it helps the story).
    4. Like a character? They'll be pretty much forgotten for random stretches (or it'll seem like it). Can't be helped with SO MANY.
    5. The faux harem in particular is really excessive, grows without effort, and maintains for no reason, as no one is averse to sharing in light of the MCs supposed awesomeness (though it's primarily neglect or fickleness that's displayed). Just like real people...
    6. A few 'numbered', mostly unlikable characters get as much time & influence as most of the 'active' characters combined. Actually, the number of intentionally 'designed as unlikable' characters is quite high, and includes the MC & most of the harem.
  5. World design/canon: Technological encroachment in fantasy world (many futuristic devices injected). Way to much out-of-context otaku-power nonsense.

    1. Japan/moe culture injected quite often (though 'no one' gets it- so 'inside joke'.)
    2. Won't get into how they go from 'the difficult to work magic of manipulating 'puppet golems' ' to 'being informed and competent enough to 'improve overall design specs' of lost technology'- but research is 'deus ex' magic here- so I guess it's ok.
    3. Writing is so lazy that unobtainium (here called 'rare materials') is actually a thing. Repeatedly. Seriously- how much trouble is it to name your rare materials?
    4. Portrayed 'power levels' compared to 'performed actions' are frequently inconsistent. In particular the supposedly impressive power levels of side characters is often overlooked- or at least (apparently) countered by less-than- notable opponents.
    5. The nature of undead/puppets changes by an order of magnitude as is convenient to the needs of the author. The degree to which the undead are exploited/redefined in this saga is ridiculous.
    6. What 'The goddesses' are & how they fit into the world are left (for the most part) unexplained.
      Spoiler

What is clear is that except for the bad ones, the rest don't seem to care. No 'gods' (male) apparently.

      [collapse]
The Different:

This actually does a bit different in the way it observes and comments on issues of 'ethics vs intent' (here mostly 'doing 'bad' things for 'good' reasons'). Well- 'tries to', really. It's an interesting attempt, but not done very well and at the sacrifice of many other story aspects (mainly in trying to 'enlighten' while overlooking foundation issues in it's own construction, and the deep amount of hypocrisy/BS casually written in). I kind of want to give credit for trying- but the execution is so ham-handed and short-sighted that it undermines it's own worth.

By the time I 've decided to write here, 66th chapter passed.

One of the reasons I've even picked up this one is because of severe lack of stuff to read.

I think that if I weren't backed into a corner so much, I'd simply avoid it or drop it pretty soon.

... more>> I've rated it 3, because I think its solid mediocre thing.
An interesting world, and lemme tell ya' somethin', the "World" is what I care the most in the novel.

You won't see typical stuff like "levels", numbers, etc. It's more like fantasy-like. Level up is called "Growth" and it is explained quite nicely and comes with one of the most hilarious side-effects. And skills are cool too. They are somewhat similar to One Piece magic. A person has one, that stems from their very self and they come in variety of shapes and diversity, roughly categorized as vanguard, rearguard and support. + You can store em in gems/artifacts. There's also refreshing approach about whole "Guild" stuff.

But, the story comes with some serious barbs.
First of, its a harem.
It's a bad harem <- with MC being wimpy, undecided and somewhat forced into, so he does not give his in much.
MC is wimpy and typical japanese character. And boy I do believe those jap MC made me look down on japanese for some time now.
Despite what ppl say, "Mr. Lyle" phenomon does not balance Lyle shortcommings, because he appears too rarely.
There are some randomly inserted japanese tropes, wich make eyes bleed. Like, it seemed like a decent fantasy cool world and then "ancient ppl" seemed to be modern japanese with their weird and disappointing tastes.

And now let's adress the elephant in the room. Because I've read reviews here and boy nobody said a thing about the biggest and nastiest barb in the whole novel. Seriously, it makes me want to puke and I do cringe when I see it. Namely: Repetitions. I mean, god f-- repetitions and re-introductions. I could live with them appearing at the beginning of volume 2. I mean, f-f-fine. Go at it. By I am starting fifth volume and they are still there. By the time you read fifth volume author DOES NOT have any RIGHT to force me to re-read who is who, how she/he looks and shit. I've HAD my enough of it. Seriously. It's so pointless, tasteless and criminal thing to do. It's the main reason I've gave this story 3. It could be 4 or 5 easily. <<less
