When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

The A.I. Chip isn't an issue in the story like some naysayers claim. It's basically just another xianxia artifact that needs time/resources/cultivation levels to give the MC am advantage over his rivals. The real flaw of the story (for the first 80 or so chapters I read) was that the MC didn't have any motivation for getting strong.

Similar novels have either a motivation or a likable character. I enjoy reading a manipulative MC screwing people over to get his revenge or a likable fool struggling to get stronger for no... more>> good reason, but a manipulative MC screwing people over for no good reason is disappointing. He has no friends, no family, and he severs every personal connection he makes because he sees others as a burden. After a while he is forced to get stronger to protect himself from people that he screwed over for short-term gains. The author actually has a minor arc where he establishes that warlocks (which is what the MC chooses to become) screw over their descendants because anybody with a warlock ancestor needs to jump through an extra set of hoops to be able to use magic. So the MC is even screwing over his future descendants for a bit of extra power. I would still be fine with that, but there is no end goal for all that power. When the story ends it's just going to be the MC, but stronger. The only enemies he will have overcome will be people that HE has provoked, usually for an item that is only relevant for one specific level of his cultivation. And he will be alone because he refuses to get along with anybody. His s*aves are only used for research, loyal servants are left behind, and his method of power gain makes it impossible to have any allies.

That said, the story is pretty solid and has good pacing (once you get past the incredibly dull school arc at the beginning). And since it's on Wuxiaworld it is well translated. The only technical flaw is a lack of any kind of character development.

P.s. Some people are going to say that my complaints are purely subjective but I would like to point out that every adventure requires a hook to keep the reader engaged. That is usually achieved by having a goal, an interesting character, or engaging interactions between developed characters. This story has no overarching goal (the MC's desire for power doesn't really count because he doesn't have any motivation or personality. "Calculating" is not a personality type.) The MC just sort of wanders around because of nebulous goals and threats. The MC is not an interesting character because the author never manages to develop his identity. He is never forced to make difficult choices because of his lack of attachments so we as the readers have to fill in the blanks. The engaging interactions are similarly impossible because none of the side characters stick around long enough to develop or matter. It's possible that changes in the second hundred chapters but that is a ridiculous wait. The story is only engaging if you enjoy reading about the life of an objectively awful person in minute detail. <<less

A refreshing MC. Yes, he is a cold hearted bastard. But he admits it all the time. Unlike that some MC that does bad things or way overboard with their revenge but the novel still paints them as a hero. Leylin is not.

I really, really love how he's being low key and while he schemes and not flaunting his strength everywhere when he needs to be careful, and be overbearing when he needs to be. Everything is for benefit!

This novel for me is so good!!!! I don't understand why many people doesn't like it or maybe it's not up to their taste but this novel gives off a different vibe and atmosphere as you read it.

The MC is a cold person who doesn't hesitate to do anything for his own benefit and that's what make him different from the other MC in other novel. Unlike other MC who seems like a honey always surrounded by bugs (enemy), here the MC is the schemer and always take in to... more>> considerations of all his actions.

The author tends to make the MC go back from the start to his every journey, but the best part about it is that I hardly see some repetitive scenes that's why its good. <<less

In my opinion it is very orderly and well written. I have yet to read another novel that explains economy as well as this one. The whole world feels alive and every single one of the mc's actions get a reaction from his surroundings. It is also very fresh to have such an evil MC even though you can't call him the absolut evil but he is quite devilish. MC's personality never becomes inconsistent he always views everything objectively. I have yet to feel bored from reading this. Definitely worth... more>> a try! <<less

Really quite bad. I'm gonna say its repetitive and boring with loads of technical stuff that does not add to the development of the plot at all and is just put in there to make the MC special. I got into the first 100 chapters or so, but I gave up. Most of this novel is becoming OP in one world, then go to another world and become OP in that one. This story is just a repetitive cycle with nothing new. TBH, I even feel bored for the MC... more>> to go through this kind of life. Furthermore, this story lacks emotional development. Although I know he is written to be like that, but with the exception of fear (although still very little), Leylin is just like his AI chip, but without any particular functions; a robot. Lacking in plot, lacking in writing and lacking in character development (I mean, the lack of emotions is to the extent of being bland). I only gave an extra star for effort.

However I got to say I enjoyed it for the beginning 100 chapters or so, but now? I'm sorry author..

(some say that he is simply rational, I say rational to the point of a machine) <<less

Kind of good. Not the best, but not the worst.

For a new sensation sure this one is really great.
I'll try to score it with 1-10 scale

Character Developement|6
The MC personality is really really developed without any random changes. MC's "identity" still preserve to the end and still stand upright.
His action and reaction to things is just so good.
He's ruthless, selfish, and hearthless.
The only bad thing is, other than MC, other character just have no character developement. Maybe a bit, but close to none.
The story only... more>> tell about MC life, and only him. No other character is relevant or even important enough to be remembered for more than 100 chaps.

Story|4
Why? Coz it's not that good. The AI is kind of overpowered and it just give a sense of "absurdity"
AI keeps giving him way out that just come out of thin air, and it's a hardcore Deus Ex Machina.

And there's the world. The system, history, or even structure are just never explained. The "living" feel of the world almost nonexistant.

Now, the whole story is kind of amusing, but yet kind of repetitive altho it's not that bad.
But the problem is just that 90% of the story has characters or items that just doesn't need to be remembered for more than 100 chaps

Settings|8
The immersion and such is kind of good. The way author depicts the situation is just amazing.
If readers don't focus and think to understand the settings they will feel like this is complete bullshit, when it's not.

in some situation it's kind of confusing, but after some more sentences it's clear again kind of settings.

Overall
Good story, good MC, good settings, but not the best.

Someone remove the 'Harem' tag please. The harem in this novel is just complete bullshit.

New MC concept. Not a novel for everyone. But more targeted for those who like "Evil" MC.

it's the kind of either love it, or hate it completely.
personally, I like this novel. But the lack of emotion and the way author keeps going with the Deus Ex Machina AI make me just can't appreciate it.

Then why a 2? I have never gave any novel a 5. I gave a 4 for AC and Returnee, 3.5 for ATG, IRAS, and ED. 3 for MW, TMW, ISSTH, DE, SSN. 2 for this novel, GoR, OEM, SOTR. (Can't remember all of em, some japanese and korean novel that is not mentioned coz I can't shorten the title)

either way, if you like Bad MC that doesn't full of "power of love, affection, or friendship" bullsh*t then this is the best place for you.
The ultimate anti-hero MC.
But still, bad side-chara dev. <<less

I started reading because
1. I expected to see at least a bit of physics in explanation
2. There's no romance tag. Romance often ruins this kind of novels. I expected something similar to world of cultivation.

Well. There's no romance. But there's s*x. Well. The girls are all someone else's leftovers. There's not a single virg*n yet. So why would the protagonist want romance with them. Like seriously. If he wanted techniques there are plenty of whores. So I don't see any reason for true romance.

About science. There's no science... more>> in it! The scientific explanations of this novel is worse than the dark ages! An AI chip attached to the soul. That explains everything!!! There's s*upid human experimentation as well as demihumans created out of those experiments!

If the story doesn't improve. I'll just quit reading.

Oh btw. I don't see any real harem. It's like being the protagonist of a brothel. In a real harem there won't be any sluts or leftovers after all. <<less

It's good if you like Xianxia and stuff, like A LOT. But this gets repetitive and the being a scientist is really misleading. The only scientist thing he ever did in this show was his AI chip that somehow got stuck with his soul. I don't remember which part of it that I stopped reading it, it was actually pretty early on that I started to dislike it. But still it was pretty good but the frustration I felt from reading dozens of chapters and not getting the scientist stuff... more>> that I actually wanted led to me dropping it.

If you didn't come to read it for the scientist stuff and is okay with the basic intelligent, cunning and heartless MC then go ahead and read it but for those who came hoping for something like RTW or something then stop. <<less

I would recommend reading this despite the rating I gave it but would recommend stopping it once it becomes repetitive. As the summary says the protagonist is basically a villain, which isn't necessarily bad but because of that he avoids making friends (so he's the only real main character) and he doesn't rarely ever question his ways of being evil. It just becomes to repetitive due to this and the facts that his only real goal so far at least is to become more powerful/immortal. Its an interesting idea just... more>> making an evil protagonist and it was worth reading for a long time. It translates quickly with decent quality though the translator is a bit exclamation mark happy. The start seems like almost a carbon copy of The Wizard World but w/ a different MC too. <<less

This response DOES include Pros and Cons, and not a lot of spoilers. The first part is chapter 501 and under, and the second part is chapters 502-778.

As of chapter 501, although the MC is really selfish, the story progress is extremely good, and it keeps readers hooked on. I quit the series at around chapter 350, but restarted it a couple days ago, and I don't know why I quit. The beginning of the series is pretty slow, but the story becomes pretty fleshed out later on. Some people... more>> may hate the A.I chip aspect, but a lot of other novels have similar pieces of equipment, and it just serves to make the story better. Pros:

1. The MC is selfish, so he isn't hindered by annoying characters

2. The novel has a good amount of fight scenes that are well though out

3. The MC thinks through everything and is smart, cold, and calculating

4. The magic and bloodline aspect as well as research is a nice support to the story

5. In the research aspect there are ALOT of things to research and it is fun to read

6. MC is really thorough in everything he does, and his schemes are mind blowing especially near chapters 430-480

Cons:

1. Not many good supporting characters until the later scenes

2. Most of the characters are selfish, so there isn't one set group of people the MC hangs out with

3. Slow start

4. TOO Selfish at times

5. Chapters 250 or so - 350 focus on research and fight scenes are relatively low at this point

6. Leylin starts out smart and cunning, but later becomes the devil

EDIT:

Im at chapter 778 right now, and the story has just gone from a 4 star to an automatic 5 (or if possible 6) star. After going to the central continent and other worlds, the MC has just gone from cunning to almost a godly strategist. His fights are epic, and he has enough REASONABLE obstacles so it doesn't feel like he's invincible.

Added PROS:

  1. He's a godly strategist and it surprises you how meticulous the thinking behind everything is
  2. He keeps getting stronger/ improving so it doesn't feel like we're stuck in one spot the entire time
  3. He explores other continents/worlds so it isn't too boring
  4. After chapter 765~770, he focuses a little bit more on his family, and his 2 first kids have his (new and improved) bloodline so they're super strong.
  5. His focus on bloodlines and the ways he manipulates/understands/controls them is amazing
  6. Although the A.I. Chip is still a big part in the story, he mainly uses it to check his stats and how probable something is, so he doesn't use it for too many illogical actions now.
  7. He's always on the pursuit of immortality, no matter how strong he becomes. He doesn't take it easy.
Added CONS:

  1. He gets somewhat of a harem. By SOMEWHAT I mean that even though he has kids with multiple women, he doesn't dote on them or become warm hearted because of it. The only one that he is somewhat close to is Freya (His FIRST Wife). Trust me I HATE harems, but the story for this is so good that it doesn't matter, and he also doesn't place much importance on the harem, and the amount of chapters focused on the harem is only about 1-2.

Honestly this is my favorite novel. It doesnt appeal to everyone though so be warned.
It is a bit slow which might be boring for some people, but I love how the MC takes his time doesnt rush into things and thinks them through. Romance is nowhere to be found and I hope there wont be any as it wouldnt fit his character. I saw some people complaining about him not being a scientist and well I dont know what they think a scientist is he gives his pc... more>> variables it runs simulations instead of making experiments and then gives him probabilities of success based on different circumstances which is basicly what makes a scientist these days. The MC always balances risk and reward his life is always the most important everything else is secondary which does lead to the novel missing action but honestly thats just part of his character and I would hate if he was some idiot that can only rely on plot armor (there is a small amount of plot armor but its nothing unbelievable).

And now why I love this novel. Well the most important part is the people in the world. They are actually smart for a change which is the best part of this novel no idiots making enemies for "face" and only for benefits. All the magi are calm exept for the warlocks whos rage problems are a fun side effect. The magic is fun, nothing complicated, nothing profound the MC uses the a.i. Chip to reverse engineer new spells and techniques which makes it a cheat thats not too op compared to other novels. He doesnt care about the lives or feelings of others and only strives for his goal of immortality and the places he visits, people he meets make up a really fun journey id recommend for anyone bored of idealists or revenge stories or just looking for a slow chill story. <<less

The book is quite unique and I like it quite a bit. It combines a little vrmmo type things with xianxia. The start is slow and the later pacing also cannot be called quick. But the writing looks stable and it seems that the author knows what he wants to do. Definitely worthy of reading.

Plot:
MC reincarnates with an AI chip fused to his soul in a western fantasy/cultivator setting. And so begins his ascent to godhood.

Pros:
- Translation is decent. Odd word choices and poor grammar are common.
- Power system is simple to understand; AI chip makes it feel like an RPG. There's not many stats and they're brought up often so you know where the MC stands. Basically though it's still your standard cultivation system but with melee spec mages. 'Potioneering' (horrible word choice) is the replacement for the template alchemy... more>> (dan producing) profession. The level up system can feel random.
- World setting is somewhat different & interesting. World building is rather lacking and forgettable.
- No romance or aversion to s*x.
- Fast translation updates. Lots of content.

Cons:
- Author's writing style negative traits: word padding (repetition & explaining the obvious), telling instead of showing, shallow characters (no memorable side characters). Felt like I was reading The Phantom (comic) ; almost every line of dialogue ends! In! An! Exclamation! Point!
- The edge. There are no truly good people in this world, because the author says so. Repeatedly. *Cue event that proves this point.* MC is not a saint, magi are logical and calculating, etc etc. After the 200th time it gets annoying. Every time the MC does something, the author has to reiterate how cunning the MC is.
- Petty gripes (I have to vent). MC tasting random plants for his AI chip to analyze (s*upid idea), the 10 crystals he stole from that dude's corpse at the beginning being forgotten (minor gripe), snake heart producing blood (that's not how any of this works), etc. OP AI chip. Frankly speaking its research capabilities are good enough, but the wide range radar, atomic microscope and oftentimes illogical analysis capability takes the cake.
- MC's character. He's not really believable as a scientist, though if you told me he was a cold-blooded CEO I would believe you. He basically uses his AI chip for everything, from research to fighting so oftentimes it doesn't feel like he's earned anything. Try replacing the words "AI Chip" with "Siri" and see how the story changes for you.

Recommendation:
Average read; took me ~50 chapters to get interested (where the power ups started popping up IIRC). If you've read a lot of Chinese WNs and can't stand the annoying writing tics authors commonly use, you may want to subtract a star. <<less

I once enjoyed this novel. Then it kept going on without a soul.

It's different from other novels I read at the time. That kept me interested for a while. But the protagonist doesn't develop at all, his character remains the damn same. He's so utterly robotic that I can't stand him.

No meaningful, emotional interactions with side characters. No decent humor either. What am I supposed to enjoy here, exactly?

I don't like dropping novels, but I'm glad I tossed this aside.

This is my favorite right now.

I'm reading pretty much everything on Novel update except for the stuff I dropped (against the gods, peerless martial god...), and right now, the chapters (around 55-75) are awesome (from the moment he starts his journey, more or less).

MC is cold and removed, OP, low-key (complete opposite of Peerless martial god in terms of decision making).

The world is not your standard Xanxia world. 50% of magus are terrible people, there are human experiments, secret labs everywhere, poverty, deaths. Most characters are not arrogant as*holes, but... more>> manipulative self-serving people with at least average intelligence in their interactions with others.

In short, a manipulative (overly?) cold and overpowered protagonist in a bleak and complex world populated with realistic characters.

You know he's gonna get stronger, but you're not sure how, when, where, for whose side, and which of his companions can actually survive. For all I know, he might side with his academy's enemy, or even just ditch academies altogether. <<less

sigh.. Look at all these idiots lowering the score because of how heartless or calculating the MC is.. Well thats how an MC should be.. He should think before he acts.. Try not to stand out and be cruel and ruthless when he needs to be.. Also whats wrong with an ai.. I for one love ai.. Stories that have an ai usually are great.. The gam3 for example.. It also fits nicely with the story.. He doesnt get op because of it.. It just helps him.. I like how... more>> this story is different.. As of chapter 37 the combat and magic system looks similar to forgotten realms (DnD).

The MC is ambitious, cunning and seems to carefully plan his actions not taking great risks or impulsively rushing into impossible odds. Instead of helping the weak he befriends those on his own level and sucks up to those stronger than him. He hides his motives and information even if it means harming his allies and “friends”, and is inclined to use them for his own benefit. Some bad elements are an excessive use of exclamation... more>> marks, and the AI chip the MC has attached to his soul seems strong to the point where it spoils some of the fun. The OP AI chip is somewhat offset by the MC having a body with only average talent for magic.

If you want to read about a neutral evil mage with a cheat like AI chip in a xianxia /DnD setting (much better than boring heroes like drizzt) this is the story for you. <<less

This is a refreshing read (up till chapter 50 where I'm currently at), the author hasn't tried to make the MC some grand hero or protector of the universe or any such thing. It is a story (so far) where the MC simply does his best for his own benefit without taking on some faction or enemy at every single turn. While I dislike MC's that have to get themselves into trouble because of their holier-than-though attitude I also like the fact that the author kept some human decency in... more>> the MC. He won't take on the responsibility of everyone on himself, but he will give help/give advice as long as it doesn't negatively affect him.

Overall this is a pretty good read and I hope it continues to be. Seems like the MC has no interest in being with anyone and he just hooks up randomly when he needs to take care of his urges (only with 1 girl so far) so don't expect any romance. If I had to say something bad about this novel it would have to be about the author's quirk with exclamation marks. Almost every sentence where characters are speaking to one another ends with a ! And when I'm trying to picture what's going on I keep imagining them yelling at each other. I like OP characters but not so OP where everything is a breeze and an arc ends in 10 chapters so here's hoping to the author knowing how to keep a proper balance. <<less
