LOL @ the people who are so gosh darned pissed off. I guess it's true what they say, huh? The more you like something, the more u hate it once u feel disappointed. I won't say this is the best story I've ever read, what I will say is that the story has consistently maintained the "slice of life" style it started off with. Some people might have been confused because of his back-story of being a summoned hero in a different world who lost everything in his quest to... more>> slay the demon king, but let me tell you right now, this isn't the kind of story where he struggles step by step to become stronger and be acknowledged by everyone (knock on wood).

While I myself was a bit miffed at the reason he decided to show his talents to Ian and Sera, I guess it was a lighter, and unexpected way to do it than let's say, him having no choice but to do it once something happened to his mother. You also have to remember, he did this in front of Ian, who is his own personal butler, and would take his orders above everyone else, including his father, and Sera who is mother's personal maid. Someone pointed out that he should just show a bit of his talent and hide in his brother's shadow, but that is just not possible because of one simple reason: his mother. Why else would the baron allow his shenanigans if it were not because of his mother. The baron's first marriage was one of benefit, while the second was out of love. I'm sorry to break it to you all out there, but your parent's have a kid they love more than the other (s). The satisfaction, hope, and effort they give one kid is above the rest, and the amount given is even more different with those who have different mothers. If Riley were to even show that he could defeat a novice, the amount of attention and expectation the baron would give him would be suffocating to him, and his brother's would probably hate him even more (and tried to get rid of him earlier). This story has some dark elements that will affect the MC's behavior from time to time, but remember, he's "The lazy Swordmaster" not "The Incognito Swordmaster" so he will do things that seem 'out of character' to get something he wants as long as it doesn't affect his lifestyle too much. <<less

I'm giving it a 4 star rating as of chapter 88 -- the story's good, I'm liking the MC and his sidekick. What I don't like are the translator's notes where they are not elaborating on something, but more like comments (snarky comments at that), which ruin the story. For example, like this one comment on this chapter (88) : [Note: From logical standpoint, this statement is absolutely flawed.] Why in the heck would one apply logic and science on a fantasy story where there are magi and there are... more>> spells involved? So annoying!!! <<less

I am disappointed on the novel. I give it high evaluation and rating but overtime got tired on its monotone plot. ML's character is dimwit and become insignificant overtime. The story goes from interesting to annoying.

-Past review below-

The novel is good and is quite addicting. The M.C is O.P but at the same time lazy. Well maybe the reason I like the novel is because his laziness have a good reasoning and anyone out their (if you put your shoes in him) will become lazy after experiencing third life... more>> in which in this life he can find peace

Though their is a hint of romance atleast it is not being force.

I am anticipating more action and plot. This story is from KOREA but the flow is like JAPANESE. Atleast the M.C is not a dimwit beta dence to the point of disgusting... hahaha

The downside is that every chapter is a ClipHanger... Readers will tend to hate chapters that doesn't have proper Arc. Wish the author to properly had a better plots so that readers wil fill the chills of Adventure and Fantasy.

Hope for Faster translation.

Interesting twist on the reincarnation into another world genre. Basically a slight deconstruction of the Isekai (different world) genre about a former hero taking an extended vacation & trying hard to not become the hero in the new world. Story direction is heading in an odd (bit boring) way but hopefully they maintain the entertainment.

MC is in a new world! BUT....

Spoiler

He's already defeated the demon lord & died doing so in the old world....

[collapse]

MC gets a powerful female mage companion who's falling in love with the MC! BUT....

Spoiler

She's only powerful due to some horrible human experimentation & only has a few months to live.

[collapse]

MC meets a dragon!...... And he's a pretty cool guy.

The negative reviews are pretty silly.

1) He's called the lazy swordmaster not because he's literally lazy like the Lazy King, but because of the front he puts up which causes everyone else to labeled him as such. So him acting "out of character" is actually him acting to his character. MC is someone who can't really say no if he's actually asked to do something (mostly because everyone else is too weak to deal with whatever situation) like a typical hero BUT.... he's extremely jaded due to his past experiences. So he fashioned a lazy reputation for himself so nobody really asks him to do trouble things like save the world & when he's actually asked, he'll do things in a round-about manner.

Spoiler

MC is basically spending his current life as an extended vacation since his past life was wasted dying to save the world from the Demon Lord. He's pissed off at the temple folks because of their "holier than thou" attitude they use to justify screwing him over in his past life by throwing him at the Demon Lord (which resulted in MC's death)...... and have the same attitude here..... and try to throw him at a Dragon in this world. Not surprising he'd be pissed off at the temple folks. Seriously, they literally use the excuse "the goddess asked so you have to do it."

[collapse]

2) MC isn't OP for no reason.
Not sure why this is a gripe people seem to have since they have no problems with Chinese protagonists being able to move mountains by simply cultivating & eating pills.

Spoiler

His past life blessings (practically the Triforce of Courage) has followed him to this life & he practices an abnormally powerful cultivation..... errr "mana breathing technique, " MC has been stated to train discretely, & spends a lot of time "out of sight/playing hide & seek". This is why he could basically kick around the assassins (even though it was difficult since his physical body explicitly couldn't keep up). And powerful mana has been literally stated to grant supernatural physical abilities (mana sword, cutting spells, sensory abilities, hiding abilities, physical boosts, and sword throwing). Seriously, even a dragon calls him a monster & refuses to teach him magic out of fear of how powerful he could become.

[collapse]

3) He hides his abilities extremely well but him showing his mother (via Ian and Sera) a bit of his power is reasonably justified.

Spoiler

Riley is like 16 years old or something.

Problem: Because MC's mother is so ridiculously kind to him, MC feels obligated to let her be proud of him but still doesn't want anyone else (rest of family) knowing his skills/power. MC also knows that MC's mother is literally a fighting novice so she wouldn't really know how amazing her son is..... Ian was the Mercenary King & literally spent almost Riley's entire life suspecting him of great power/abilities. Apparently that's why he's so faithful to MC. Sera is also a very trustworthy maid of his mother.

Solution: Get Ian & Sera to confirm to her that Riley is amazing. One was a former Mercenary Hero, the other is a trustworthy & competent personal maid of said mother. If both of them say Riley is amazing, even the mother will get a pretty good grasp of how amazing her son is.

I stopped reading Japanese novels because of how they hide their strength. This novel is another example of that. People can say its "smart" all they want but hiding their strength is always a frustrating genre for readers and if done poorly it just makes the story bad. This novel is decent and cookie cutter. Its a bit more mature imo compare to JP novels but korean novels usually are a lot more grim its surprising to see a not too grim korean novel with JP novel like MC that can fight while hiding his strength because he was too annoyed with his past life.
Spoiler

He given up on the sword because he was forced to fight too much in his past life (loads of his friends died while killing the demon lord in a modern ish past life it seems) so instead of working thru it and understanding sh*t just happens he decides to completely deny showing his sword skills in a medieval world where it would help him and his allies. The author is trying to walk a thin line to show he will hide his skills while being awesome I wish the best for this novel but I am done with reading it. These novels are too frustrating to wait for updates so I will come back at 300 to 400 chapters till then have fun reading if you try it.

He defeated his enemy in his modern world and died. In that world whether he saved people or not people cursed him for everything. They scream at him for not coming earlier, or their family died due to him etc. No one paid attention to the mentality of his young age and the burden of being a hero. No one cared for him thus resulting in him wanting to be lazy in the new world as his reward. But in fact, he was just scared to make attention, but he is fine using his skill to kill people as long as it doesn't spread in my opinion. And He is gradually gaining new friends who understands him slowly. Plainly said he is scared to make relationship that will hurt him or point at him thus, hurting the friend he has now.

You guys may say he is selfish but he does have the right to be selfish as a reward of being unselfish in his last world.

This novel protrays the feeling of being a hero.

Not every hero received honor or wealth. Clarifying that not every hero stories ended with the hero saving the world or marrying a beauty.

The lazy swordsman mention a lot of sacrifices and hardships of being a hero.

From young age and to the end of his life, the MC is regarded as a weapon not a human.

To the point of after being reincarnated, he developed a trauma of using a sword.

it drags on with some random ass plot that it never alluded to before and honestly has too much hanging on the idea that the MC is too lazy to invest his effort in defeating all the annoyances before the annoyances pop up. The protagonist is supposed to be an adult, so even if he were lazy, he should be able to IDENTIFY and eliminate threats. Then he gets retconned so he's no longer OP. The premise was lost.

It does have some problems, but do enjoy reading it.

Plot is not bad, but some arcs’ are very boring like Astroa, Rainfield and Inaril ones.

Astroa one was boring because there were a bit too much fighting and Riley was causing most of his problems by himself. The atmosphere had been way better before.

also the pacing is getting worse and so is writting. It feels like this story is getting hammered...

Many people seem to complain about Riley’s personality and it truly does not fit him if we think about his age and past. But all that could justified by saying did not have time to be child when was child.
Spoiler

they did mention that he first killed human when he was 7 years old and had other ways cruel and busy childhood

[collapse]
so he became an irresponsible adult (?) but author did not do anything like that so it more likely because the author did not thinking it through.

What also did not like was the way the author handled some the flashbacks related to Riley’s past. He was just listing stuff that had happened and like:

Spoiler

“When he was three years old, he held the Holy Sword, the sword that can only be held by the one allowed by the fate. With that, be became the Brave Hero. Since then, he had swung sword without a day of rest, and... ”

“Brave Hero?”

Nainiae muttered, and the woman in black continued in low voice.

“When he was seven, he killed a human being for the first time. It was a criminal.”

“... Pardon?”

[collapse]

I would liked if the author had showed it not told, but there were someplaces were it was shown but that was not long (two pages at most.) Many people hate when there is a lot of flashbacks’, but when it is story like this, where the past plays a very important role I would like more information. <<less

I read this to the latest chapter, and I can say that I was pleasantly surprised with this read. In the beginning, I was thinking of dropping this web novel, since almost everything about the story is a turnoff. Lazy, doesn't do anything, lets himself be made a fool of. However, I continued reading out of deference to the sheer number of chapters and the premise that this could actually be a good novel. I was glad I did. The story became richer with each chapter and the protagonist became... more>> more willing to display his abilities. I think the romantic subplot here was very sweet. The bond between the protagonist and that significant other is not shown through superficial, s*xual relationships like some other web novels. Instead, deep connection, emotional understanding, and a mature attitude is the best part about their relationship.
Spoiler

There is however, a very large gap in the story where the girl goes off to cure her illness as well as train herself so she can stand proudly by the main protagonist, but its pretty nice when they have their reunion. It also happens in the middle of the protagonist being significantly overpowered

[collapse]

All that to say, give this novel a chance. It may not seem good at first, but it gets better. Trust me. <<less

Great beginning, and then... maybe the traumatized main character got to me, but the whole story is about him trying to overcome his PTSD.

The problem is that it feels it takes too much time, and we are approaching the second half of the story with him still not being able to get it together.

Blurb: After defeating the demon king, the protagonist accepts death. After reincarnating with his memories intact, he swears to live a lazy life free of adventure. That proves difficult when adventure finds him.

The main complaint everyone seems to have with this series is the way the protagonist displays his laziness. The protagonist has basically made it clear that everyone except his mother is a disposable tool to him and kill anyone who threatens his lazy lifestyle. He has literally said "should I kill her" in regards to his maid whom... more>> he revealed his sword skill to. The maid was completely innocent and he knowingly revealed his skill. So if this sort of personality bothers you, don't read the book.

That is the only major reason to drop the book and I honestly didn't even think about it until I read reviews on the matter.

What I noticed was the mediocre writing from the author. The pacing is a little off. Some parts are really interesting, some are really dull.

One writing habit that really annoys me lately is how the author handles conversations. Basically, imagine if I opened this review with, "And DarkD proceeded to thoroughly review the series. His points were accurate and fair. He reviewed it in such a way that it was hard to disagree with him." The author basically starts conversations like this. I don't know if he's always written like this, but I started noticing it recently and it's becoming kinda annoying.

Overall, it's a decently written OP protagonist story containing dragons, magic, power progression, and much more. <<less

Good story. The MC's laziness makes everything a bit slow, but it progresses decently enough.

I like the characters and how the world is built.

I just don't really like the maid. She was okay... but I think she's gotten kinda annoying. I almost put 5 stars... but I couldn't take the moments where the maid is focused on. Maybe it's 4.5? Dunno.

MC was the hero from a modern fantasy world being attacked by demons, but he died and got reincarnated in the world "above" it, a more magical world that's less modern. The plot connects the two worlds, so I think that's cool.

Maid:
Spoiler

Started out as the victim of experiments with OP magical power and a limited lifespan. Got picked up by the MC and changed to a maid. It bothered me how when the MC told her to keep things quiet, she blabbed them anyway (to one person, but the news sorta spread). I get it that she was uneducated and young, but still. She also screwed up in a serious situation later... I kinda facepalmed at her idiocy. (MC was trying to hide his identity, pretty much did it, and then she spoiled MC's efforts...) I know this sounds like a rant, but I seriously tried to like her... and failed. The whole arc where everyone was focused on her 'impending' death bothered me.

Title says it all. Our MC is just lazy. Another your average transported to different world. The story is very well written. It doesn't give much big picture of the world but rather focus on MC and then slowly gives details as the story progress. Have some comedy and combat.

It's very addictive despite its big cliff from chapter to another. Recommed people reading it.

This story is by no means great but it executes a story of the "lazy" type protagonists the way I like.

The main character is trying to not get involved in pretty much anything but when something serious does happen, he will actually use his OP strength to deal with the situation while trying to conceal himself. He doesn't cower from protecting anyone that he likes (his mother for example).

But one of the downside points of him is that he sometimes prolongs a battle by seemingly testing when the opponent shows... more>> something that he doesn't know, but of course, those things that he doesn't know still aren't capable of defeating him.

Not only he's a truly powerful swordmaster, he also has a great aptitude to a very rare type of magic but because of its rarity, he can't use it to its full potential due to lack of people capable of teaching him. He can only learn the basics of it.

Also, it seems like everything about the "coke" stuffs has gone after certain point in the story.

This story doesn't have an epic storyline or anything. It's something that you can read for fun during your free time. <<less

Most of the people rating this badly are self inserting too much when reading. It's it a masterpiece? Of course not. However, expecting the MC to be some proactive justice dealing badass, despite reading the first few chapters is completely ridiculous.

If you don't self insert and realize that this story is about a jaded hero, it is rather enjoyable. He has acted consistently thus far, avoiding anything troublesome as long as it doesn't endanger the people he considers family.

TLDR: Stop self inserting and read the story from a different perspective.

The story is basically about a STRONG protagonist doing nothing, yup that's right he literally does nothing but what matters most is how good is the story when it comes to its writing and plot and that in my opinion is rather mediocre. The only thing the protagonist is good at is ruining expectations and that's what his intentions are but the way the novel plays out is lacklustre. Characters in it are mainly cardboard cut outs with the only entertaining and compelling one being the butler. Even the MC's... more>> mother is a part of this fault.

As for our MC, he is rather hard to relate to and his job is too astonish people and show how strong he is but is always hiding his identity plus he is a know it all too. The protagonist for no reason knows all kinds of stuff just by smelling something but yet has no idea on how to use magic despite being a hero in his previous life.

The novel always has to force a situation on the protagonist which always seems unrealistic if you consider the chances only for him to show off his aforementioned prowess and astonish people. Currently the way the plot is going is rather bland. MC basically helps someone because she can use specail Magic but that's only to an excuse to add some more stuff to the story.

Turns out she is a victim to expectations like the MC!!! (What are the chances?) and then it devolves into some secret stuff about some higher authorative figure which is obviously illegal. MC again shows how capable, knowledgeable and strong he is and for no reason includes a random family into the matter (unless he did it so because the son of the family really pissed him off by forcing him into a battle against him which I believe would be unlikely for his character unless he is a rather ruthless and easily ticked off, very contradictory nature to his laziness).

In the end like I said before, most of the things are mediocre and plain even though the novel tries real hard to be more serious by including gritty dark stuff like s*avery and horrible experimentation but poor writing doesn't help this at all. Mediocre in all aspect but it's ok if you're just searching for anything to read. <<less

Despite my low rating, I don't mind many elements of the story. While the grammar is poor, it isn't too hard to read, the characters are mostly decent, and the world is cookie cutter. These things are all okay. The problem for me is that the main character is profoundly unlikable. Maybe it is a choice on the part of the author to write an OP MC who is a massive a**hole. This is fine as a concept. I like a lot of stories where the MC is a bad... more>> person, but the character isn't written in a way that is interesting to read; his actions mainly come across as frustrating and s*upid. It turns what would otherwise be a stock standard but passable story into a taxing mess.

For context, the MC's attitude is based on a trauma derived from his experience of saving the world in his last life. Again, this is fine, but this alone doesn't make his character particularly interesting and the author does little to develop him further. I would also argue that even if the character's behavior makes sense in this context, it isn't interesting or pleasant to read and detracts from the experience (in addition, he acts out of character on a regular basis which further confuses this mess of a story).

The only story element that kept me reading as long as I did was Nainaie, a character introduced in the second arc who is moderately likable and kind of cute. Shout out to her I guess. Overall, there are definitely better options for light fantasy reading so I would avoid this unless you are desperate. <<less

So far it's pretty good.

Anyway, of the few I've read, this is actually my favorite among them. I don't really enjoy OP characters, though I despise stories where it spends literally forever building the character up. I dislike authors who deliberately make things difficult, or introduce instances that are only used to drag the story/arc/whatever out on purpose. I have dropped many anime and manga for that very reason. I'm told "It's for the plot", but no, it's not. It's to purposely make the story longer and it's lazy writing... more>> because the author could not come up with a plausible reason to extend the scene. Thankfully, the author does not do that with any of the combat scenes, or with anyother interactions between any of the characters. Their are no bullsh*t stalls, which were the main reason I could never finish Dragon Ball Z or Naruto Shippuden. I'm an impatient person I suppose, but it's obvious when someone writes and then make's it longer on purpose when a brief exchange of words or fists could have brought about the very same ending that took 30+chapters/episodes.

If it's meant to last long, the author gives it a proper backdrop as to why it lasts long, and when it's obvious it all can be done with a word or two or a quick slash of a sword, the author chooses that route. I barely watch anime anymore because ALL anime seem to do this and it's like a badly implemented trope. "Make great hero lose awfully when he should have won but then let friendship give him a boost or just let him win now because it's lasted so many episodes/chapters now".

And now I'm bored leaving this review. It's good. 4 stars. Not worth 5 but very rarely is anything really worth 5. Too many fanboys 5-star anything because it fulfills their inner-child wishlist and not because it was an actually well written story. People are relying on Nostalgia and Bias too often here on this site for me to take anyone's reviews too seriously as I've read many reviews here then took a quick couple-minute glance at the writing and found it seemed as if a 4-year old was flexing their grammar/writing skills. That or the translations were poor, which most are on this site, but I chalk about half of that up to languages not translating perfectly, which I know is difficult so I cant blame that. The other half of that is simply poor translators who make very little effort to clean up the stories even when it's obvious that it doesn't sound right. <<less
