The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

An internet troll who wanted attention, the reader criticized his favorite web novel, saying: “The protagonist is dumb and the author is s*upid.”

Author: “…Got it.”

Unfortunately for him, the author actually listened to his (troll) feedback. The formerly lighthearted tale of a cute harem master suddenly became super dark and edgy. The reader could only helplessly look on as the protagonist was abused and betrayed, finally embarking on the road to becoming completely evil. Everything was a mess!

After that the reader transmigrated into a strange world. How come the person in front of him looks like the protagonist (evil undead version)? Just what is going on?!

Note: Du Zhe (读者 meaning Reader) and Du Ze (杜泽 the character’s name) sound almost the same

Both MC and ML is likable, really, 100%. They're such an adorable couple. I fangirl all the time.

I gotta say, the male lead is sooo POSSESSIVE! ≪3 Totally my cup of tea! I absolutely like how the ML treats the MC. Being possessive and dominant in a relationship might be unhealthy but hey, I don't mind it at all, at least he treats the MC well and doesn't hurts him or anything exaggerating. The MC also loves ML so it doesn't really matter, their feelings are mutual and that's what... more>> matters.

This is really one of the best BL novels, even without BL the novel would still be very interesting. <<less

The world building is interesting and is my favorite part of the novel. I'm not a fan of the romance though. Love is not domination, but throughout the entire novel the male lead is obsessed over controlling the MC and monopolizing him. This is clearly an unhealthy relationship, and while I understand that the male lead has been through a lot, I still cannot enjoy reading about the male lead's obsessive and possessive behavior.

Spoiler

“If wanting to control something is liking.”

The man must stay with him all the time.

“If wanting to monopolize something is liking.”

This man is his.

“Well, Du Ze, ” he smiled and said to his utterly silent and only audience. “I like you.”

^ This is from chapter 26. Wanting to control something is not liking, wanting to monopolize something is not liking.

I am being generous.

Sometimes, 5 star reviews deceive you and I really don't know how this novel has that much of them.

First thing first, to give you a clear idea, don't start this novel with expectations you had from other novels with same tropes, cause although this novel is Chinese, it falls very much into that japanese suffocating full cliché style. Which means...

... more>> useless mc+too much annoying side characters out of nowhere+props overloading+poor imitation of western fiction+no genuine chemistry= this type of novel.

And I am sorry, but the MC is 100% unsuitable as a partner for the ml. Not only that, he's still treating the world like a novel, maybe we can explain it by his escapism but still... imagine knowing that a simple action from you no matter if unintentional dragged an entire human's life into hell and still expect any relationship with that person? Anyone would just be uncomfortable, yet this MC is still babbling about harem members and little brothers, still taking this entire person's life as an extension and projection for his little pleasure.

You would say this is just comedy, it's for humor but you can't neglect that the author tries to put serious notes in the novel. So all this is just uncomfortable, either the author didn't know how to juggle between tragedy and comedy or this is intentional character setting and is horrible.

What annoyed me too is that the MC read the whole novel, knew that the ML coerced and r*ped the harem members (but that at least can be explained by his mental state) yet still cheered for that to happen even to the lesbian couple. <<less

I don't understand the raving reviews. The beginning was ok, but midway, the story turned into a snooze fest. The two main characters were boring af, their smut scenes were... okay at most. It took me two weeks to finish the novel, and I nearly fell asleep half of the time. I probably only pushed through because it's one of the few danmei that's completed.

One star for an awesome ending, another star for the great translation.

A reader likes to write flame reviews on his favorite stories so that the author will notice him. One day, he wrote a review that said the protagonist is s*upid and should just die. The author granted his wish and the once peaceful, kindhearted, OP harem master protagonist started to get betrayed by all his friends resulting in his death. The reader was enraged because he just want the protagonist to ride in his happily ever after with his harem and guilty because he caused the story to changed so much. Soon after, he gets teleported to that world with a his hearing aid, clothes, and a yaoi doujinshi (LOL)

The story is quite funny because the MC doesn't have any combat skills and uses a lot of modern lingo... more>> to internally demonstrate his frustrations. The lore for novel (in the novel? Novelception) is very detailed from its races, backstories, and gods. I think this has a lot of potential but fails at some points:

    1. The progression of ML's feeling for MC: the ML suddenly just announced his love for MC. I was like wut? When did that happen???? It doesn't feel love though. It feels more of a obsession that morph into believing he is in love because MC is the only one that has been beside him (even though he made MC to have a blood contract with him, making MC unable to betray him)
    1. The progression of MC's feeling for ML: The MC initially liked ML because he is his favorite protagonist, the OP harem master. He was just going with the flow with ML's whim and then I'm surprised that he develop feelings?? Like wuuuuuut
    1. Plot: I'm confused half of the time where they are and what the timeline is??
True, the ML is handsome and OP but I think he is very selfish and obsesses when it comes to MC. The only saving grace I could think for him is that he likes giving MC a lot of pleasure and that he takes great length not to hurt him. The MC doesn't really have much character and just goes with the flow most of the time but he is very loyal to ML.

Is this story bad? Not really. The background story is fleshed out really well and tackles a lot of topics such as: is the world divided by good and evil, should the common people believe in their god, hypocrisy of the heroes, and a lot more. There are also a few but very steamy scenes that gets more and more creative as ML can transform into 8 different races so if you're into that then go read this lol <<less

This is very funny. I really enjoy reading this novel.

The story is about a reader who showed his love for a web novel in a wrong way by writing negative comments which unfortunately taken seriously by the author. The story which MC should be a straight stallion-type hero became bent into an angst, revenge-driven one. The reader became so sad, but since he loves the novel so much, he still buy it online. And this is when the real story start : the reader transported to the world inside the... more>> novel after reading a R18 doujinshi.

The story is pretty good, I really like the characters : cute, earnest, and quite dense uke, an op yandere seme, and don't forget the most important item : the doujinshi! (LOL) <<less

The first time I tried this, I was a total stranger to c-novels. I lasted about 9 chapters before I rage-quit. I was so confused by the lousy writing that I avoided c-novels for months afterwards. After trying out c-novels again and experiencing beautifully written historical romances & light-hearted modern reads full of slang, I thought why not? Now that I'm familiar with how web-novels work, maybe I missed out on something first time round.

And on my second attempt I realized- nah, I'm not the problem. It really doesn't deserve... more>> such high ratings compared to other works in the danmei genre.

Like regardless of the dubcon, toxicity, triggers, whatever, the biggest problem with this novel is the terrible writing style. The pacing is all over the place, and supposedly fantastical and grand imageries are reduced to painfully clumsy sentences. World-building? More like a mud shack wobbling on brainless exposition.

Du Ze had the potential to be interesting as he diverged from mainstream archetypes... until he didn't. His personality doesn't amount to much beyond reacting towards his environment with exasperation and an expressionless face that hides his frantic thoughts. Then Xiu is just every typical yandere lead out there.

Like granted, maybe the plot go crazy later on. Maybe in another couple dozen chapters, the romance developed between the main characters is a rollercoaster of chemistry and angst. Maybe there's even a profound message about the human condition embedded in the narration.

But shit, I could make the same bet about pigs being able to fly some day. <<less

This story is one of the best transmigration novels I've read so far. The main character is funny and his observations of his situation are more hilarious especially since he had such a stiff expression all the time. The plot is very interesting and the romance when it hits its peak is very satisfying.

What I love is how the author intersperses parts of the original novel 'Mixed Blood' as a reference to situations happening and we get to see the impact of the reader on the protagonist. Theres also the... more>> skits that appear at the end of most chapters that are absolute the hight of comedy and a must read.

So if you love adventure, romance, and transmigration read this novel! Especially since the amazing translator puts out chapters daily. <<less

Okay, I spent several nights binging the MTLed raws, so I definitely missed out on a few points. However, it was 100% worth the read for me. The story moves along at a decent clip, and isn't overly predicatble. The romance is pretty solid, too. There are only a few side characters, and they don't stick around for long (they do come back, however).

The fact that the main character (reader) has 0 battle prowess is pretty interesting. Despite this, he manages his way through various situations. Rather than saying that... more>> he relies on the protagonist, it seems that he is usually left alive? He does have an interesting ability, which both helps and harms.

Overall, if felt like the author had a schedule for the series. It wasn't too fast, and wasn't drawn out with tons of filler, either. I felt that the ending left some questions unanswered. However, that might just be things I missed because of the MTL. So, I look forward to the translation. <<less

The story has an interesting concept, and I don't regret reading it but I won't read it again.

My main issue is that the romance between the MC and ML wasn't believable. The ML is the protagonist of this grand novel, Mixed Blood, so he's meant to be awe-inspiring. However, the MC is an awkward, emotionally muted fan of this novel. I don't find their personalities compatible.

It was cool how he got s**ked into this world, and how he uses his knowledge of the world to guide the ML. It's especially... more>> funny when things don't go the way they're supposed to and the MC is flustered by it. But the jump from "I want to help the ML as an objective reader" to "I love and care for the ML" is sudden. Also, the ML is too obsessed with the MC. I get being needy or jealous, but it feels like the ML doesn't have any other motivation besides keeping the MC by his side.

The plot is promising but the jumps from one world to another are abrupt. I didn't feel attached to any place or any other character. It felt like the author was trying to get the plot to just move along.

I don't think the story is bad, it just might not be for me. I felt this way in the beginning and I thought it would change but it didn't. So if you like from the first few chapters you'll probably keep liking it.

Also, love the translating team. They did such a great job of adding footnotes and clarifying questions. <<less

I'm surprised by all the 5 star rave reviews. While it's an easy read, mildly entertaining, and has a satisfactory ending, I would definitely not consider it a fantastic story.

Illisaide's review does a great job summarizing why I find the novel lackluster, so I'm mostly expanding off their points of criticism.

I found myself tolerating Du Ze and Xiu rather than liking them.

I can't count the number of times the author referred to Du Ze as some silly, cute person - it made me uncomfortable, like the author... more>> was trying to gaslight me into going "aww" over his social awkwardness, facial paralysis, and general lack of self-awareness. This is me also understanding and having empathy for his backstory and condition.

Xiu is like a bread-and-butter obsessive and controlling ML... on steroids. He actually can't read Du Ze because Du Ze is a rather unique MC who doesn't (know how to) wear his emotions on his sleeve. This conveniently creates grounds for misunderstanding and lots of insecurity. It also paints a good picture of Stockholm syndrome, where Xiu does whatever he wants and Du Ze learns to put up with it - at first for his own safety and survival, and later as an expression of care for Xiu.

The deus ex machina is very heavy in this story, and it stands out the most when it involves Du Ze.
Spoiler

You can't tell me it doesn't sound s*upid when obviously stronger characters can TELL from a glance how weak and dorky he is (there are times when he's even close to dying), but somehow can't kill him because there's something intimidating about his black hair and eyes.

...

I can accept that the creatures (familiars, mounts) are spooked because they can sense he's not from their world, but scenes like their entrance into the city where Xiu gains his demon bloodline made me laugh. Like, come on.

[collapse]

It's obvious that the selling point is the relationship between the MC and ML, as well as the R-18 that follows. Given that it's a western fantasy novel setting with multiple races, readers can expect a nice variety if that's their kink:

Spoiler

The ML's gimmick is that he has to activate all 8 of his inherited bloodlines to achieve literal world supremacy, so MC gets to enjoy the pa pa pa with each of his 8 forms. Yes, he shapeshifts.

[collapse]

Sadly it was not my thing. The author managed to make me uncomfortable and/or cringe in most of these scenes, and a lot of it had to do with dubious consent.

Recommendations:

If you like the concept of a reader criticizing a stallion novel about a blackened protagonist, and then being transmigrated into it, I highly recommend BC Novel's other translation work, Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System. It's a cultivation setting and not a western fantasy, and definitely fosters a slow-burning romance over a smutfest. However, I loooove how MXTX handles the stallion novel tropes, MC internal monologues, and enriches the story by balancing comedy, angst, and some fluff.

At some point, Shen Qingqiu even has an epiphany that deserves a standing ovation:

Spoiler

"He might as well be content with whatever he has and make himself at home wherever he is.

Bull***t!

For Shen Qingqiu to attempt to comfort himself with these words, there must be sh*t in his brains! He wasn't some sort of Stockholm syndrome patient, feeling deep gratitude for being fattened in captivity. Don't you understand, you need to bring about a fortunate lifestyle yourself, not by relying on others' charity?!

Having defeated his own brainwashing, Shen Qingqiu exerted his strength, a page from a book splitting open in his hands."

A typical transmigration novel where the MC is a reader that gets sent into the world and meets the ML, who happens to be the strongest person in the universe. ML ens*aves the MC, but slowly starts to fall in love due to the MC sacrificing himself for the ML even though the ML has done nothing but be cruel and evil to him. This entire book's plot is wholly centered around the MC and ML looking in each other's eyes and being in love. The thin facade of plot... more>> is just the ML getting more and more OP while f*cking the MC in his various "forms". Great novel if you're in it for the smut. <<less

I actually wanted to give it 3.. oh well 😐..

Because of the high rating and my friend's continues recommendation I finally decided to read this novel.. hmm... how do I say.. I found it pretty.. meh😐. It's not bad.. the beginning was nice. I liked the plot.. but as I read I found it pretty boring.

The premise and world is very interesting. I liked the idea that ML can transforme into 8 species (and it was also used for smut.. it was ok.). I also loved that we get to... more>> read few paragraphs from the original novel that MC transferred into. The translation was good. Images from the manhua the translator added was helpful and made it quite an unique presentation. The Action scene weren't bad.. The ending is happy. It definitely had tons of intersting things going on.. but wasn't greatly executed.

My biggest complain is- the Characters and romance. It is lacking and very bland. The thing I can remember about mc/ML is that MC is deaf and was an internet troll, wrote bad things to the author to get attention. I thought that was interesting and endearing but after that he just becomes male version of Bella Swan.. (yea I am not fan of the good girl/boy average joe type MC.) and ML can transforme into 8 species and he is depressed h**ny and obsessive. They don't get much development personality wise. They barely had much conversation and even when they had convo it was not entertaining. (Their convo in author's little theater was fun tho..) Nothing about either of them was cute. I wouldn't even know MC or ML is supposed to be cute if author didn't keep repeating the words. Gosh! I would have liked it if author showed them actually being cute and having intersting conversation. Villain and side Characters are very forgettable as well. And Plot armor-kun is very strong in this one. Romance progression was fast af and no chemistry between MC and ml. It all felt very repeated.

Don't have too high expectations. It's not a masterpiece but it's not the worst either. I will specially reccomende it if you don't care about plot, story and stuff and just something simple + obedient quiet bottom x op, obsessed shape shifting top.

If you like this then I would rec to try these :-

"Omniscient Reader's viewpoint" and "tr*sh of the count's Family" (if ya want WAY better story and Characters but without any romance and a bit of bromance)

"Scum Villain's self saving system" decent bl. Pretty similar except SV is more comedic..

"Everyday protagonist wants to capture me"

" 2HA/ The Husky and his white cat shizun" if ya really want smut and angst :')) and has seme Protagonist. <<less

2.5/5

Dropped at chapter 60. It's a japanese-type isekai novel. Unfortunately for me, I dont like this kind of trope. But I decided to continue anyways with all the good ratings, I thought, meh I'll just read it, maybe it can change my mind. Well, no.

I've seen the 'MC separated from ML ➡️ ML goes crazy➡️ makes love' too many times it became redundant. There's this part where MC got abducted but he just lets himself be abducted? I've seen no sign of struggling?? While ML is there going crazy and... more>> being a bloody mess?? Maybe its because author wants to prioritize the fighting scene but at least a word of struggling from MC might be good, but damn there's none.

I also find myself confused at sone parts that I reread it many times but still can't get it. Ive seen other reviews that also has this kind of problem.

There's also words such as 'silly, cute reader' (just write MC's name please?? its rlly annoying) or where instead of just ML's name, they do 'The Lich' or 'The silver dragon' instead of 'Xiu'. It isn't a problem really, but when it's used alternately and many times!! it can be confusing and redundant.

Therefore, I conclude, redundancy is the main problem (con) .

Aside from the that, the world building is good but confusing- and well, boring. I skimmed over some parts bec well...

The love scenes and confessions are quite cute though!! I love it. Also heartbreaking at the same time.

Edit: hmm I skipped to the ending and as I said before the lovey dovey scenes are very very beautiful. The ending is so good! Just wuite confused will they go back on their own world or remain inside the novel?

Spoiler

The ML starts off as very cold and paranoid which is justified seeing as he's been betrayed a lot but when he falls in love with the MC he's very romantic. (Giving him a ring and vowing that he'll destroy whatever/whomever hurts the MC, even himself.) The MC is great too, he never annoyed me which is a first since usually a BL/heroine will usually have traits that can get me irritated. (Childishness and being dumb etc.) I'm kinda obsessed with this story.

I dropped it.

bc WTF. This novel is so.. Dark. In an absurd way. And honestly, I didn't like the main duo, they are so.. Ew.

but I gave 3 stars for 3 reasons:

  • The amazing translation.
  • Old john.
  • Ariel.
    Spoiler

Here is just a sensitive reader's nonsense about her fav characters.. (:

Ariel smiled sweetly, but Du Ze felt a chill in his spine. Ariel is too accepting. She doesn't hate that Xiu destroyed the Elven Forest, doesn't hate Xiu's pollution of the elves, and doesn't hate Xiu's actions that led to her mother's death. The original Ariel could forgive all of this because of her love for Xiu, but this Ariel

The dark elf princess's eyes were filled with longing and she wrote on the branch, unaware of the changes in her personality.

[He is very strong and everyone likes him.]

In his imagination, the brown-haired, golden-eyed elf princess in "Mixed Blood" smiled warmly and softly said to Xiu: [I love you so I will support whatever you do.]

    The contrast seems particularly brutal.

You know that feeling when you feel a character with all your heart? And you understand it well? But you are a s*upid person who can't explain his feelings? Yes, that's exactly me.

After I read the chapters that involved Ariel's story, I cried so much, I cried with all my heart, I couldn't stop thinking about her, she deserved better than this, she deserved a better life. Thinking about her fate is so heartbreaking.

In her life in the original novel, all her heart and feelings were for Xiu, and although she gave him everything she had, he didn't give her anything, he was already blackened and engulfed in darkness. She even sacrificed her soul for him, for the sake of love, as they said. But in my opinion.. This was not because she loved him for who he is, she loved him because she "needed" him.

    She needed someone.

But he wasn't the right one, he didn't put her in his eyes from the beginning, until she had gone.

But in the current life, she had completely gone insane.

She can't be saved anymore. She lost her heart.

In my opinion, It's basically a form of the Stockholm Syndrome. Iykyk.

Even though she is a side character, she had a strong influence on me, more than any other character.

In fact, the MC's silliness is so annoying to me, if the author wrote the story in a better way, In a way that conveys to the reader the deeper plot that the story contains, it would deserve five stars.

Anyway, it wasn't that bad. But If I had a chance to go back in time, I won't choose to read it :)
