Ling Xiao was secretly in love with a girl named Mo Qi; because of an accident, they both crossed into the ancient times.

Mo Qi who was preinstalled with the Mary Sue halo, in these ancient times, walked to the summit with a golden finger.

However, Ling Xiao continued to be exploited by Mo Qi.

After he no longer had any values to exploit, he soon became a pitiful cannon fodder.

The heavens decided to take pity on Ling Xiao.

And gave Ling Xiao an opportunity for rebirth.

After rebirth, he vowed that all his enemies would repay him with a debt of blood!

However, why have all these enemies of his, fallen into the mode of cutting their heads open?

“Hey, are you really that unremarkable person who used to follow behind Mo Qi?”

“So this dance was originally danced by you, sigh……”

“You are obviously a man, yet you move me so much.”

“Enough! Since you have taken the initiative to provoke me, then you must concentrate on me!”

Ling Xiao expressed: If you want to counterattack, then counterattack. As long as your golden finger is bigger than Mo Qi’s.

But how did Mo Qi’s Mary Sue halo end up in his body! He is still a straight man who likes beauties! He definitely, definitely doesn’t want to turn bent!

It was an interesting read, but I feel quite ambivalent about it at best. I enjoyed reading it, but I didn't enjoy the relationships and the characters of the MC and ML.

First, I'd like to point out that a few other reviewers have mentioned that the supporting ML was a better choice. I agree he was a better choice, as he had more of a friendship with the MC, but I disagree that he wasn't problematic ... more>>
Spoiler

as he literally tried to force the MC to marry him.

[collapse]

Second is my problem with the ML. He is an almost completely omniscient character who is abusive by modern standards.
Spoiler

Although there isn't a r*pe tag, there are a few instances in which I'd say their interactions were more r*pe than s*x. The ML refuses to allow the MC to have friends, an absolute sign of an abuser. And, most importantly, in the final chapter, he attempts to kill the MC by strangling him. This isn't some sort of SM play, this is straight out attempted mu*der. And other than the MC slightly flinching the next time his neck is touched, there are no other emotional repercussions.

[collapse]
People just aren't that all knowing in real life.

My biggest problem is with the MC's character. If the ML is so clearly a character because of his omniscience, then the MC isn't even a character. Real people are complicated and contradictory. But it is very hard to write a character who's that complicated and be believable. Here, the author utterly fails. One moment the MC is a genius, next he's a total idiot. One moment he's "pure" and "innocent, " the next he's "sly, " "crafty, " "cold, " and cruel. One moment he's extremely fierce, the next, he's as "ineffectual" as a "kitten." (Quotation marks are around the actual descriptors used in the novel.) Frankly, I'd find it more believable if the author had given the MC multiple personality disorder. It's also strange that for a guy who spends 90-95% of the time terrified that the ML will kill him,
Spoiler

he isn't terrified of the ML after he actually does try to kill him.

[collapse]

I also couldn't figure out where he got his skills from. We get a vague reference about learning one thing at university, but otherwise he has a whole skill set and is able to blend in to ancient culture with little to no explanation.
Spoiler

For example, where did he learn to dance? What kind of dance is it? Obviously it's the sort of dance an ancient audience would appreciate, so did he belong to a special household or have a special interest in it?

[collapse]

All in all, I enjoyed reading it, but it is a novel with a great many faults. <<less

Hmm, my thoughts on this novel are a bit muddled. I would say this is a light, fluffy BL story, but at the same time, it's definitely not. This story has all of the regular court intrigue characteristics, minus most of the intrigue, plus 10x the amount of drama. A pseudo-harem of sorts forms in which the MC is unaware of everyone except for the ML, which is nice. The HEA was quite satisfying, though it could have been longer smh.

My biggest problem with this story is the relationship between... more>> the MC and ML. Even after they start a real loving relationship, the power is all placed on the ML. They say that the MC is favored and pampered, but the entire time the MC lives with the fear of displeasing and instantly being killed by the ML. Even when the ML gives him a death excuser plate, this fear still remains, and at the end, his fear very nearly comes true. Honestly, the amount of times that the ML distrusts, snaps, and/or almost kills the MC is insane. That is one unhealthy relationship, I tell you. Where's the equality? I mean I know that the ML is a monarch, but can you really claim that he really loves him if you're still that unwilling to compromise? I would only say that the "favoring" is just being slightly less unreasonable. And of course, this induces 99% of their interactions to be the MC literally trembling in front of the ML. Not quite the romance I was looking for.

Overall, a slightly disturbing but still quite enjoyable story. Would recommend for a quick BL read. <<less

I just loved reading this. It is a nice simple story of face slapping. Not very action-packed or detailed, but good for a quick read.

Some details don't really make much sense; more like the author wrote it in because they could. Even though it feels like they just threw in random troupes they liked into one story, it is still enjoyable as long as you don't care much for the 'how'.

Dropped at c.57

I am royally dissapointed. From the tags I expected a power couple with a bad start. But no it just stays bad til the end.

MC from the very first chapter is only thinking about getting away from ML and getting revenge. When he finally gets away he doesn't think about ML at all.

... more>> He rejects everything from ML but god forbid he gives him a "honey" glance right after being threatened by him and MC becomes all docile and is only capable of blushing.

There is no redemption arc in this. It's very frustrating to read. I honestly do not understand the high rating. The writing itself is good but the characters and story are both inconsistent.

MC is conveniently smart and dumb, depending on the situation. He gets praised for being thoughtful in one sentence and in the next manages to say the worst possible thing.

ML is just a toxic shadow of a person. He is literally the toxic shadow of a badly written villain. <<less

The plot was interesting and overall I liked the story, but one unsettling thing about this novel is that in front of everyone else Ling Xiao, is all smarty pants and goes face-slapping left and right. But in front of the emperor his IQ goes to zero and his lower body starts talking first which is annoying for some reason. It was frustrating to see him getting locked up in the palace and he wants more freedom. So when he goes to the emperor to have a good talk,... more>> he switches to love brain and then it's over. He compromised over and over for the emperor but all along I just felt like the emperor was calculating the guy somewhat. But then this is a novel so maybe I'm just reading into it too much. <<less

Historical drama with lots of political intrigues. The MC is a transmigrator that has been reborn. In his past life, he got the short end of the stick because the woman he was in love with ended up using him until she eventually killed him. In his second chance at life, his goal is revenge (by killing the offender), but he ends up getting more than he bargained for by taking away all that belonged to the OG!FemaleProtagonist had. Including the men that loved her.

CHARACTERS: 5/10

I didn't find the... more>> characters here particularly likable. They were also pretty inconsistent when it came to their characterizations, making them even more offputting.

Ling Xiao (MC)

This MC is a veritable Mary Sue. As a transmigrator that was reborn, he had many advantages, and it was fun to watch him play around at first. But... His characterization is all over the place, and I actually found him annoying most of the time DX I like him at first, as mentioned, but the further along the story went, the more incomprehensible he became -- in my opinion, he didn't just gain the OG!FemaleProtagonist's golden finger, he also became her -- s*upid and annoying *sneezingface*

Emperor Mu (ML)

The Main Lead is the Emperor, who is more likable than the MC -- since his characterization is at least stable -- but not by a lot. I think his character settings were a bit shallow, and he was overshadowed by the supporting male characters -- who had better chemistry with the MC (in my opinion).

ROMANCE: 7.5/10

The romance was nothing special. As mentioned, I much preferred the chemistry between the MC and the supporting male characters DX. As for the MC and ML pair, it was cute at times, but completely unequal until the very end.

SETTING: 7/10

The worldbuilding in this is not bad. It's not the most comprehensive, and IDK how realistic any of it is. But since a lot of the plot is focused on palace intrigue, the worldbuilding ended up being a pretty major focus.

PLOT: 8/10

I like the plot, it's pretty melodramatic, but I didn't mind it so much since the story is fairly short. The focus is on political intrigue -- imperial palace politics and the like. It's actually the first I've read that was more focused on that aspect than developing the characters and romance, so I found that a novelty.

RATING: 3.3/5

My review seems pretty negative, in retrospect, but I still read the novel to the very end. Partly because it's short enough that I think it can be enjoyed even if the contents are a little clumsy. In the end, the novel remains me of TV dramas LOL, it's a bit all over the place and a little too dog-blood, but eh. If you're interested in the premise, I say give it a shot anyway.

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

    • Personal Enjoyment: Pretty low, since the MC irritated me *sneezing face* 2/5?
    • Literary Level: The translation at Snowy Codex is very good! It reads very well. So, I couldn't give it up even though the author's plot development was meh.
    • Heat Level: This has some spicy scenes but it's the mild kind. There's kissing, heavy heavy petting. S*x does happen on screen. But it's not explicit. 2.5/5. Maybe 3/5 at most?
    • Trigger Level: As is stated in the tags, this is a "R*pe Victim Becomes Lover* kind of story. There are also some (inexplicit) death/violent scenes.

This story was okay but it wasn't my favorite. This Literally made no sense for half of the novel, no but some art student 'casually' knows how to make gun powder and that kind of fancy stuff yeah I mean that makes sense. I think someone else mentioned that before or something another point: also 'casually' knows how to dance heaven-defying dance. Hmmmmmmmm. Suspicioussss.

Another thing is that I felt like MC became more of a domineering type and I don't mean the bossy president type I mean someone who... more>> orders people about but take it for granted. The author made it sound all nice and stuff but it really isn't in my opinion. He became the person he hated the most. You can tell by the way the side characters respond that they dont like this king consort at all half the time they look at him with an unhappy expression and they always have to say things through gritted teeth. Yeah I don't think they liked him particularly that much. Hong Ye is one of my favorite characters and I can tell that she doesn't think MC deserves The emperor at all. His personality changed after being favored so heavily by our Ml. He's just not really my type of MC at all not in any part I can remember.

Another thing someone mentioned was that in their last life ML was interested in MC and killed mo qi because he killed him. The person said that because he was the emperor he could easily bring him into his harem right? You're absolutely right. If he was truly in love with him he could of done that to him in a second even by force. I could kind of understand why he did that. First off the emperor had no proper reason to bring him into the harem it was a bit like he see a new toy at the store so you ask your mom if you could by it. She says no so you feel bad for a while and then you just kind of forget about it later on. It's a bit like that. He was only faintly interested in him because they didn't have much contact in his first life anyway so they didn't have the chance to even get to know each other. The emperor's personality was just like that he's not trusting and has an unpredictable personality so unless your someone he's knew for years you probably can't understand him at all.

Lan wei was a memorable character in my opinion. He was the only son of the prime minister so of course he was raised as a little prince in their manor. I can tell why her fell in love with Mo qi. Her Mary Sue halo is invincible. He transmitted AFTER Lan wei and them met so I can guess why he fall in love because at that time MC didn't have his own invincible halo on him. The enemies to lovers- I mean enemies to friends is great he really change in those times they haven't met each other, he became the mighty general of the country and can finally grow on his own. If that was character development I don't know what is!

They last episode: don't read it, just don't someone reminded me before but I ignored it. I regret it so much. They were in a relatively healthy relationship (minus the running aways and all) but their relationship just turned violent. MC told ML he had to disperse his harem but ML got angry. It was revealed that the harem is to stabilize the power and I get it, it all makes sense. MC was being a tiny bit selfish but I get it, as someone from the 21st century it's normal you dont want your lover to have 3000 other people but he needs to understand that it's not the 21st century. Lan wei also thought that if he didn't was to share his lover why chose the emperor. Why not him or that other emperor? Why chose him? They're both willing to only have him as their one lover this life time. So why him?

Why did I have the feeling ML only disperse the harem because of the benefits of the blue prints and not because of their love?

Another thing: why the f*ck is there a black snake on the cover.

In short I wouldn't read this ever again. Dog-blood

edit: I thought about this some more and realized ML was a little bit more reasonable than MC. The emperor is considered at the top and everyone kinda listens to him but if someone decided to you know not listen to him he would be protected by the other people listening to him. If they all happen to just 'nahh let's leave him to fend himself' it would practically be game over so he has a bottom line which is people have no rights to question his authority. MC just happens to step over it a little to far (no questioning authority part) and the emperor got a little angry. If others heard it would bring trouble such as ML being a pushover for MC and that he is caring towards MC and MC would be in alot of trouble. BUT THAT STILL DOESN'T JUSTIFY THE CHOCKING BIT

edit 2: Whoever changed the cover pic I love you. It's so beautiful 😭😩 <<less

Okay, there are a bit of problems with the characters and small plot holes that never got concluded and I actually agree with some of the 2 start reviews here, but... I also have to admit that I spent the last two days just reading this novel (even during work!) Because I just couldn't put it down! So that right there meant I liked the novel a lot more than others I've read.

MC is kind of dumb. Kind of smart because it's his rebirth, but kind of dumb with some... more>> really obvious common sense things like why the heck would you follow a strong martial artist to some questionable place late at night?? Especially when said natural artist doesn't like you.

ML is the Emperor and obviously OP. Apparently his aura is enough to make everyone tremble in fear. He's super smart and thinks he knows everything, so he gets super pissed whenever he finds out he's wrong. The side characters like to hint that ML always has an ultimate long term plan in mind and for MC not to question him but... I don't really understand his motives sometimes. ML is also never there with MC after a nightly session with him which I find a bit scummy. Like, you're the Emperor, you won't get fired if you skip morning meetings for a day.

TheLittle plot holes that bothered me were
Spoiler
  1. how come MoQi also got reborn? What was the prerequisite that allowed both of them to transmigrate at the same time and how come the first time around she got the Mary Sue Halo and not the second?
  2. It was hinted that in the first lives the Emperor was already interested in MC and had killed MoQi for poisoning him but they never elaborated on that and if he liked the eunuch the first time around he could have easily just had him with how overbearing he is. No need to make MoQi his Empress just because he liked her eunuch like wtf
  3. They said MC was an art student... But he knows how to dance outstandingly well and coincidentally knows the formula for gunpowder and blue prints for designing guns and cannons because he's from the modern world. Like, does everyone know these formulas off by heart?
  4. Lastly, how old were they!? I think it was mentioned at the beginning they were 14 and at the prime of their youth while the other 2 make leads were both 17 and the Emperor was either 19 or 25. Did I accidentally read shota!?

I think I overall liked it. If you are someone like me who is obsessed with the reincarnation and transmigration genre then even though it's not the most original work out there, you'd probably like it. Our MC is quite nice, he is intelligent he is calculative he is revengeful etc the problem that I had with this novel was the ML. He was fine at first you kinda understand that this is a historical novel so the king being a ruthless cold person isn't that much of a big... more>> deal but the way he acted at the last chapter especially was THE WORST like I hoped I passed the last few chapters it was so unnecessary like he was being violent for no fcking reason at all. I liked the character Mu Qi but it could have been better if she wasn't this s*upid and that other king I feel sorry for him like at the middle of the novel I was rooting for him lol. Not the best novel out there but personally I don't regret reading it it was a nice read ~3.5 ⭐️ for me <<less

It starts off great, middle was still pretty decent and I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the ending. Character development seems to only happen for the secondary male leads because everyone else only seems to get dumber and dumber, yea MC too. There is absolutely no logic to how or why the two leads are attracted to each other, I thought that would change but the two just descended into arrogant vinegar jar psychos. I still remember how nice of a read this was when I... more>> just started, do yourselves a favor and pretend the last 2-5 chapters don't exist so you can still hope that this shitfest gets better. <<less

I mean, I have reread this several times now, and in my honest opinion, it's still retains its re-read value even after all of those times. I would love to have a physical English copy of it!

Ling Xiao (mc) is a reborn transmigrator who starts the novel as an angry, sly, survivalist, but was supposedly quite a doormat type character in the life before. I won't lie, that first description of him... he doesn't particularly change, he only gets more arrogant as the chapters go on. I like this about... more>> him, but if it's not your cup of tea, well, don't say you haven't been warned!

The Emperor (ml) is neither reborn nor a transmigrator, and in all honesty, he's cut from a very typical BL ML (gong) mould. Arrogant, powerful, possessive, and domineering. Again, I love these types of MLs, but if you do not... Well, in terms of character development, falling in love and not offing the MC for all of his naughty schemes and lies is about all you're going to get, aha!

In terms of side characters, there is in some cases, abrupt and unexpected (and arguably unnecessary) character development. But you know, I'm the type of reader who adores the MC being the centre of attention, and Ling Xiao certainly gets that as the novel goes on.

Honestly, if you're looking for a read with papapa, a possessive ML, and a surprisingly naïve MC (for all of his evil little schemes against Mo Qi, his nemesis, he is very naïve when it comes to the ML's attention towards him, I feel), I totally recommend!

If you're looking for something with huge twists and turns that you'd never have guessed in a million years, and something that makes 100% sense at all times, with great representation to all out there... I do not recommend.

i love both MC and ML and other MLs characters too. MC's scheme is cool and I like he's clever act. We shouldnt expect that every MC in TR novel being dumb. The way he acts like scared cat in front of the emperor is really cute, how ever emperor fell in love easily and fast and in the end didnt say how is he fell in love in current and previous MC's life . And I didnt like it. Maybe in first sight? I wish author wrote about it too. And I really dislike it when ML tried to kill MC. I know he is emperor I know his wish is to has a powerfull country, but kill MC? Whtf? Are you crazy?you could r*pe MC or just dont come near him for sometime but what the hell with killing? I really didnt understand him,

and the villaine is really dumb, really. Even though she knows why emperor killed her but in her second life did same mistakes again. How can someone being so dumb? I dont know either.

it just left a bitter feeling behind. They still had better chemistry than Ling Xiao x Emperor, though.

Then, there was the matter with Lan Wei..
Spoiler

it's just that I didn't expect the poor Lan Wei (he's a general btw, it was never explained how it came to be??) to catch feelings for Ling Xiao? Enemies to lovers was a nice idea, but it came across as somewhat forced? As if every character with some importance had to fall in love with the MC..

They still had better chemistry than Ling Xiao x Emperor.

When I finnished it, it felt incompleted to me. While I was progressing through the story, I was waiting for romantic development between LX and the Emperor which simply didn't seem to occur. Yes, they do kiss and did some 'stuff' together, the Emoror's even supposed to be in love with LX.. But I got a very different image, the Emperor chasing after LX and the letter just being scared of the former and wanting to get away.
Spoiler

How I got it, in the end, Ling Xiao allegedly falls in love with the Emperor, too, but how baseless and shallow it appears.

[collapse]

Now, I won't dwell much on Mo Qi, the angelic girl (jokes, she's the villain), as she irritated me immensely! And let's not talk much about the characters' actions that lacked motives, or the plotholes.. (Uhm, what did you say was the Emperor's name again?)

I can't say that I didn't like it at all, there were some parts I found really good. But in the end, I wasn't overly satisfied.

Would I read it again?

No.

Would I recommend it?

No.

But if you want to pass time and don't expect too much from it, then this could be a decent choice! <<less

It was a fine read but definitely not great.

Honestly my feelings towards the MC are very iffy. I definitely don’t hate him, but I don’t necessarily like him either. I don’t think the author really try to make him endearing so I don’t have many strong feelings towards him. The ML on the other hand is a bland mess. He starts off as the cliche cold, possessive, and ruthless Emperor but never really gets fleshed out, in fact he probably becomes worse and worse as the story goes on. It... more>> was chapter 63, 3 chapters from the end, and the MC was still absolutely terrified of the ML. They never feel like they are on equal ground and the MC seems to end up with the ML more out of fear than anything else. They have some nice moments but they are few and far between.

Honestly the best part of the novel were Lan Wei and especially Fu YuJun. Fu YuJun has the strongest case of second ML syndrome I have ever seen and it’s genuinely sad. Unlike the MC and the ML, Fu YuJun and Ling Xiao actually have pretty good chemistry with their bickering and teasing. They actually feel like they are on equal footing and best of all Fu YuJun actually works to try to earn the MC’s love. He’s probably the most fleshed out character of the whole series making him my definite favorite. <<less

I simply loved the ML's character, I know he was quite forceful;but I loved the fact that he disliked lies (a personal thing) and was a thoroughly cunning man

The fact that he'd planted his own informants in various parts of the palace since the age of ten, is quite impressive

Also the fact that he always knew what was happening in the castle at all times whatever the scheme was and was able to see through lies is just so op and nice.

Besides, the characters the romance element of the novel really shows.

I am, however, quite annoyed with the fact that the ML loving the MC in both lives isn't stressed at all, and the MC's reaction upon finding out didn't satisfy me at all.

Yes, the ML had only married the FL in the first life due to his love for the MC, and the fact that this isn't stressed enough irks me.

There were quite some things that I was iffy about, but they were only minor things and won't spoil your experience with the book. Would totally recommend.

The first half was nice but not much on the latter. I prefer Lan Wei over the ML (heck I can’t even remember his name) cause his reasons for falling for the MC is understandable and is much cuter than ML and mc’s toxic relationship.

This is like flying you so high up, just to dump you in a tr*sh land.

This started off soooo good. Even though the wording was a bit childish at times. The MC is intelligent and level-headed. So whyyyy WHYYYYY...

Halfway in the story, he became not so different from the female villain, Mo Qi. Furthermore, even worse than her because his kind of character is the one I despise the most. A white lotus, running around, making trouble, and playing victim.

Spoiler

Silly, dumb, indecisive girly brat. He became an unreasonable white lotus that doesn't think before doing something anymore. A 15years old girl who keeps evading her own feelings still make sense but him??

Him who is supposed to be a bit mature after two lifetimes. And as someone who had already understood and already had experience of liking someone before.

How the hell did he not realised his liking, or at least his good feeling to ML after he knows how his heart beat faster when he's with ML, or how he accept his kissing easily, or how comfortable he is in his embrace or how he is okay with having s*x with him.

AFTER ALL THAT he still thinks 'it must be just a misunderstanding' 'don't think about it' 'no way I feel that way'.

I was like ??????? -_- ?????????!!

That 'misunderstanding' 'don't think anything about it' 'no way' thoughts keep repeating at least once per chapter.. it was sooo frustrating!

He also keeps hanging on? other people around without making any clear line. Obviously the dumbass second ML?, the Second Prince, already confessed to him, even wanting to force MC to marry him. And MC is just like 'ohhh (surprised pikachu face) ok. I will think of a way to escape. But well, I'll stay with you first, and help you with your problems, and get to a war that has nothing to do with myself, and save you with the knowledge of my past life of out my goodwil even though my life would be in danger, the I will side with you and keep hiding behind you from the ML because I've deceived him before and he will kill me'
- don't misunderstand ML doesn't want to kill MC, it was just MC insecurities and assumtions-

-the MC needs ML power and cury favor with him, getting his trust and be the closest to him. Then after done using ML's favor and power, he fear it because he lied to ML a lot, so he wanted to escape and use Second ML/Prince to help him escape.-

-Second ML/Prince help MC escape, but also help the villain, Qi Mu escape, which brings more trouble. SML want MC to stay with him so MC stay (pfftt so much for wanting to escape and gain freedom) -

^ 2 points before are vaguely what happened before the MC becomes really hateful.

He keeps protecting his so called 'brother' second prince lmao, even willing to *sacrifice his life*, even though he always emphasis that *he treasure his life the most*, even though he knows the second prince is just taking punishment for his own actual mistakes and childish decisions. He even let the Second Prince kiss his face, even though in his heart he said the kiss is uncomfortable. But he never once avoided or showed displeasure about it.

But his attitude with ML, the guy he has good feelings for. He don't want to acknowledge his feelings, playing with his emotions, pushing and pulling him around, and being scared to death because the ML is powerful and could take his life ha HA ha HA. Even though the ML already showed so much compassion, and showed how much he was willing to go for him, even after all his betrayal and his vague relationship with another man.

He's (MC) rlly becoming the kind I hate the most geez I just dropped it even though I'm already near the end 'coz I only want to vomit

The MC don't deserve the ML at all. Should've give ML someone that would appreciate him. And should've give MC a dumb and scum man so he can learn once again, give him more life lesson until he can get himself together pls

I read this story quite a while ago, so I've forgotten quite some things, but the things I do remember both good and bad. The story starts out with the MC hellbent on revenge again that s*upid girl who I forgot the name of, and while it does make the story more interesting, it also feels kind of unnessesary, because ... more>>

The girl wasn't really too bad at that point, but I'm saying it lightly. The revenge I believe, instead of just hellbent in having it already in the start of the story, maybe, Ling Xiao could've acted like he was discontented with the girl, because of the attempted castration, and then him getting more hellbent on revenge after the girl also knew that she killed Ling Xiao

The MC and ML's relationship developed nicely,

it didn't really seem fake, and the storyline was very easy to follow and once you get into it, you are enthralled by it, like you literally can't stop reading it. <<less
