A Wild Last Boss Appeared

Description

It was in the year 2800 of the Midgard calendar. Back then, there was a Overlord who once reigned supreme and had reached the very brink of subduing the world.

Her name was Ruphas Mafahl, a great woman dreaded as the Black-Winged Overlord.

She was too strong, too fast, and too beautiful…

However, she was defeated by Heroes who opposed her ferocity, and her ambition was brought to an end.

――or so went the story of our protagonist’s in-game character, whose body he now possesses for some reason in a world 200 years after Ruphas’ downfall. Follow our protagonist as he becomes unnecessarily feared by his surroundings and unnecessarily worshiped by his former subordinates as he―or now she―cheerfully travels around this fantasy world.

A web novel with proper mystery from the beginning? This is good one, the author is planning ahead for this series, initial chapters seems to be generic isekai genre but it's developing into a proper adventure shrouded with mysteries. After a few introduction chapters and the gear is up, the tension is building up steadily in a good way. As the tag indicates, there's no romance in this series since adventures and unveiling the world takes priority. The MC is travelling around and with each place she gains more information... more>> about that world which surprisingly deeper than she initially thought. There are a lot of conspiracies going around her but she's rather decent to realize something is wrong and taking one step at a time to figure out things (she's not s*upid but also not a genius, she's just like normal people), compared to dense protags who can't even realize their surroundings.

Ruphas as an MC is good, she's cool headed and smart enough to fend herself, she's not talkative but when she said something more often it's somewhat profound. Some of the side characters are also good, but unfortunately some others feels rather shallow after their initial story arc is over since they tend to be relegated into the background or being used as joke material. Aside from the MC, the blue haired girl on the cover is also developed into a good character.
Spoiler

And the next summoned the hero also good, he got good brain and not running headfirst into trouble as much of the other isekai MCs. He's rather careful but not a coward, if he needs to act he will act even though he's scared.

It was very enjoyable read. Would definitely recommend it to anything that ask me.

I can read Japanese so I read it in raw, but if anyone ask me whether they should read this series or not, I would definitely say "yes". It's one of the best in it's genre and spoiler alert (... more>>

it's not even a true transported to another world series

) and comes with a very very original story.

Both the original work and the translator for this series is very solid. As others have said, the story is very well planned and there are many foreshadows and it felt like reading fully completed One Piece. Characters have great depth (MC, allies, villain and even some seemingly "extra" characters) and world building was throughout. Foundation built in the first few chapters really pay off later on and there is a satisfaction for reading each chapter. It was great for an Adventure type series lover like me. <<less

This is Overlord X The New Gate

MC is super op just like overlord, while Overlord's MC transferred to unknown region.. This series is more like TNG where he just transferred to the future of the world.

Definitely must read for those who like Overlord and TNG

I tried reading this because a lot of people kept telling, this is basically like "Overlord" or some famous novel out there but, aside from the MC being so OP, I can't get any similarities.

This is so hyped that I can only lament on the mindset of those who appreciate this kind of literary work.

My point is, the "PLOT" is so horrible that I can't stop rereading the synopsys and the supposed world background of the story from time to time, only to sigh and ask, what kind of t***h... more>> am I reading?

Rebels are considered heroes? And the MC made his character the Demon King? He's not even a GM in the game and he can make the company go with his whims? He's just a player man!

He had most of the power to rule due to (plot armorX1000) and then he finds that boring? WTF? He almost quit school just to play that game and he's even earning his own cash from the game! Then you're telling me he suddenly thinks he is bored and wants his character to get beaten up and die? (In a gamers perspective, I can only say: "are you for real"?) He even wan'ts the title "Demon King?" Like what did he do to deserve that title? He just grind and grind and even paid a hefty sum to avail (OP Items) to be at his level. Then he can be demon king?

What concept of Demon King is that?

As a gamer a long time ago, this is just ridiculous for me.

And the gender bender tag, please,..... It's like selling ordinary apples then putting a sign that it was from some renouned apple farm.

People are getting wierder as years pass by. Now I can understand why some countries are on decline despite having a rich culture and heritage. Why their human resource is at the brink of... <<less

There is a limit on how dumb main character can be, at some point you understand that it is not the character who is dumb but the author.

Like the returned king tries to earn money as an adventurer. Instead of selling off a thingy from the tower...

Trying to earn money to travel on a carriage while having the ability to fly at sonic speed

Despite the premise of a player being transported into the body of their op character in a game world turned real, the story focus itself is actually something different. Due to the fusion of memories between the player and the character, this novel is more about a tyrannical, but fair leader returning to explore the world after disappearing for 200 years and finding that since they were overthrown, the whole world's basically fallen to ruin.

It's fun, interesting, and seems to be building up to something.

I wanted to love this, I truly did. Had it on my reading list for a very long time and wanted to build up plenty of chapters to enjoy it. At first, it seemed like my expectations were reasonably correct and I liked the flow of the story and the characters. However, that quickly changed as the author went into uncalled for territory and tried to go all mysterious and half-serious on us. It got so grating that I had to drop it out of sheer frustration after giving it... more>> 15 chapters more to prove me wrong, around 40-50 you will notice how it becomes increasingly s*upid, that's when the author decides to go full inner monologue with the MC whining like a little b*tch and the author pretending that everything is so damn mysterious, it's not a coincidence that some other reviewers around chapter 50 gave it a low score. If you didn't quite appreciate his personality before, now you will come to detest him.

As we all know, everyone has things they're good and bad at. This author sadly decided to put great focus on what he sucks at instead of what he's decent at. After starting out as something akin to a lighthearted comedy novel with nothing serious going on, the author quickly decides to destroy that premise with unnecessary drama and "mystery". This could've been a good development if the author wasn't writing the story in a juvenile and immature fashion and simply couldn't handle his own ideas properly. He should've kept going with the lighthearted comedy and avoided any drama or excessive mystery, but he didn't.

I love mystery and serious novels, I love novels that have both comedy and exciting/interesting story intermingled. But this author doesn't know how to write that, the very basic premise of this novel ruined it all before he even began. A huge issue is that the protagonist is a moron and it doesn't stop at that, I'm getting idiot vibes from every single character in this novel, which might hint at the author's own intellectual capacity. For a novel to do well in a more serious scenario, at the very least the MC himself needs to be intelligent. Not saying he needs to be a super genius, but basic common sense, priorities, ability to not be a doormat and not get pushed around by everyone around him is a basic requirement for that to work out. Despite even absorbing the overlord's memories and merging with her personality traits, he fails to be anything beyond a dull and boring person who can't stop complaining and won't proactively do anything properly.

Rather, what is most infuriating of all could be how the author blatantly slaps our faces with how s*upid he is. The author literally says that the MC is a moron, he's not intelligent and shows us how indecisive he is. I hardly feel any emotions from the MC that would make him human, he's robotic at best. Over and over again are we hit with the author saying that the protagonist feels something is off and thinks something is weird but proceeds to just disregard his feelings as if they're not important. He even ends up forgiving a clearly incredibly suspicious person who clearly has no place in his group, clearly knowing she's lying to him yet just ignoring it and letting her stay despite how she just backstabbed him a second ago, all while saying how the original owner of the body would've decapitated the bastard. Rather, I'm left baffled at how s*upid the MC tends to act. I can't handle this level of s*upid in a novel like this. The MC is far from the only moron, every single one acts like a moron in plenty of ways, it's just not as noticeable, but that's probably the limit of the author's character and plot writing.

I don't mind s*upid characters, the problem is that they're out of place in a novel that isn't supposed to be s*upid and lighthearted. The author was going for that at the beginning, but as he added more and more s*upid crap to the novel and thought up his "grand story", that changed. Although it's still kept somewhat lighthearted, it's not good enough.

It's truly sad how nothing is interesting, the world isn't interesting, the story is dull, the races are boring, the lore is half-assed and the MC along with the other characters couldn't be more out of place and artificial. They don't feel human, they lack the energy and life that they should have. They feel like bad actors reading lines they haven't even practiced beforehand. I don't get the feeling of motivation and life they need to possess to be fun and interesting. In general, it's a very dull novel to read.

Part of that is surely because there are a lot of text walls with info bombing, especially at the start but the author really overdoes it with the background info and explanations for things that doesn't matter whatsoever. He's having fun writing it but doesn't consider how it'll be to waste time and have this useless info interrupt the story flow all the time, a lot of inner monologues, usually with the MC whining about his circumstances, feeling guilty because he possessed the body of his supposed in-game character, feeling weird because of the original owner's memories, feeling responsibility for things that doesn't concern him and later on the desire to go home and the immature dislike for the goddess because she involved him in her games (he was asked before being transmigrated). The more "mysterious" the author tries to make it all, the whinier he becomes and the more useless background info are we exposed to, it very quickly became incredibly tiring to read resulting in me having to drop it despite my initial high expectations. It doesn't help at all that the MC feels incredibly out of place, instead of accepting his new role and body, he guilt trips himself over s*upid crap and refuses to accept it in various ways. Instead of living his new life, he hesitates all the god damn time. This hesitation and his refusal of accepting his circumstances and not caring about it anymore makes for a very choppy reading experience, the MC just feels so out of place, like he doesn't belong there at all. It doesn't get much more half-assed than that, a person who can't stop thinking about his new circumstances, instead feeling alienated from everything, doesn't belong in a story like this. At the start it wasn't like that, he was quick to accept his new fate and body, but he becomes increasingly skeptical, not failing to mention that he's not actually the body's original owner almost every chapter. Come on.

This is a novel that had a lot of potential and which I wanted to love, I also gave it a lot of extra chances but ended up feeling betrayed by the author who clearly went off his game to do something unnecessary instead of focusing on what he already had. I liked the first few dozen chapters but it quickly turned around. It was frustrating to read and not even once did I feel the mysterious desire and will to binge read it, it completely failed to catch my interest, utterly devoid of the excitement, fun and interesting parts that a novel like this should possess. It feels like a dry desert. It has a big and grand foundation but it ends up being all dead, dry sand instead of a flourishing piece of verdant nature. The author had the chance to make it into something great but flopped by forcing moronic characters into a setting they don't belong in and forcibly exposing us to a higher than necessary dose of their bad traits. <<less

Although it doesn't seem like the plot is completely original and new, this doesn't stop the novel from being a potentially great read. From what I see in the very first chapter, its good points are:

1. Female protagonist without a massive intelligence trade-off (not completely sure yet)

2. Protagonist with an undoubtedly jaw dropping appearance. Always a plus. 3. There isn't really a sense of danger or threatening, malicious plots from the humans right from the get go.

4. Doesn't seem to be a grim and serious novel. If that's the... more>> case, it won't be pulling your heart with depressing feelings 24/7.

I recommend that you read it for yourself. <<less

I think the novel is pretty interesting and good. There are many reviews that said otherwise, I respect their decision and all of course, but to the people who are checking the reviews should try reading the novel. The story's very, very good. The plot and characters are well thought. Their identity, the manner of speech, the Zodiac's loyalty, Rufasu and the 13th Zodaic's mysterious identity, the third-rate writer, all of it were really great.

In the first few chapters, you might doubt the capability of the MC but trust me,... more>> in the last chapters, the truth was revealed and when I first read it, I really felt goosebumps. I was shocked and dumbfounded but felt really happy. I won't say any massive spoilers because I myself don't like being spoiled, so yeah. All I can say is just try reading it, it's worth it.

Oh, and I almost forgot, the fighting scenes are detailed and great af!! Also, my favorite character in the novel is BENETNASCH! She's sooooo cool! <<less

Honestly, this is among my favorite web novels out there. The translator's very good, (if slow), and the story is top notch. Both overarching and short term, and the world building. The world building is amazing! Truthfully, the novel itself is sorely lacking in flaws, and the only negative emotion I have towards it is impatience; for the next chapter.

If you love to read Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku or Konjiki Moji Tsukai then you'll definitely love this Web Novel.

there's no annoying Harem Cliche (thought some people have feeling for our MC the story is more focus on fighting and World Building tather than Romance itself), Unnecessary Hentai and Fan Service scene. Most character is fleshed well and interesting unlike most ISEKAI OP MC Web Novel which their typical Bland Character thus it's easier to remember each Character. The world building, Plot aka... more>> story line is slow and steady yet interesting which will hook you if you atleast faithfully read until chapter 100 and the Story will become more and more interesting. MOST character is likeable even the VIllain since each of them have their own reason, stance and circumstance unlike most Xianxia with their annoying or arrogant Villain. Really Recommend it. <<less

This is my first review so please forgive any grammar mistakes that you might see.

While reading this novel, I have also saw some reviews rating this as horrible or garbage, and while I won't lie to you and say that those flaws don't exist, they take it way out of proportion. This story is meant to be light hearted and have a few plot twist along the side. It's not meant for you to use a microscope and carefully look at every detail and think of deep and interesting, thought... more>> provoking theme. The novel knows it's s*upid and went with it, making a parody of itself like in the latest chapter.

Some complaint I see were, as I quote, "Rebels are considered heroes? And the MC made his character the Demon King? He's not even a GM in the game and he can make the company go with his whims? He's just a player man!"
And while this is a valid complaint, the MC in the story has told us many many time before that the game is broken and have lots and lots of terrible mechanic. And there is a reason behind it,
Spoiler

It's because the game was specifically made for him to play, become Ruphas, and come back to her original world outside the plans of the goddess. When it's purpose was fulfilled, it disappeared.

[collapse]

Then there is another quote, " He had most of the power to rule due to (plot armorX1000) and then he finds that boring? Then he can be demon king?"

You might find this weird but having too much power and being able to defeat anybody is boring. Yes. For example, if you maxed out your game and no one else can beat you, are you going to have fun repeatedly killing people who are weaker than you? Secondly, I don't know where you got this from but Ruphas does NOT want the title of demon king at all... Thirdly,
Spoiler

For the complaint about him/her not deserving the power, you think to that of the fact that the entire game was suppose to make her enter the world of Midgard, obtain some of her skills to survive and then fight the goddess. Ruphas was simply getting back all the power she previously had.

[collapse]

Another complaint was, " Over and over again are we hit with the author saying that the protagonist feels something is off and thinks something is weird but proceeds to just disregard his feelings as if they're not important. He even ends up forgiving a clearly incredibly suspicious person who clearly has no place in his group, clearly knowing she's lying to him yet just ignoring it and letting her stay despite how she just backstabbed him a second ago, all while saying how the original owner of the body would've decapitated the bastard. Rather, I'm left baffled at how s*upid the MC tends to act."

Now then as I have explained before, there is a reason Ruphas ignored Dina, who is
Spoiler

one of her allies who she left out to make her regain her memories and power. The actual true Ruphas was the one doing that, and since the one we know in the early chapter was the false Ruphas, it's common sense that he ignored her too

[collapse]

This post is getting way too long. However, despite all the problems this novel have, repetitive writing, idiotic characters, I had enjoyed it a lot. <<less

It’s good. Light hearted at times and pretty interesting overarching story.

Text wall below me went off on this novel but that’s probably due to overblown standards. It’s a solid novel, definitely not the best but after reading enough you start to realize that there is no point in only reading “perfect” novels. Enjoy what’s written and I did for this.

Not so much to say for now. The premise is a bit different than usual, so I'm looking forward to read more chapters. The style is not exceptional.. Since the translator is quite experienced I'd say that the fault is in the original source. Let's wait and see.

Update: sadly the updates are slow. By reading a little ahead (the manga) I can say that Yasei looks way better than what I expected. I'll go from 3 to 4 stars, for now.

Of the ~40 isekai WN/LN I'm reading right now, this is my favorite. Some things I liked:

+ Protagonist that decides her own will, rather than be a rug that everyone walks over.

+ Supporting characters are very memorable. I love the dynamics between characters.

... more>> + It's not just a story about <protagonist>. It's a story about other people as well. Meaning other characters are competent and pull their weight.

+ Feels very shounen battle like. As in, power balance in battle sways back and forth between ally and enemy, and the battles get more and more insane.

+ Translators are doing an AMAZING job. Thanks for your hard work in doing research on the constellations and various facts.

PS: Benetnasch step on me uwu. <<less

A Wild Last Boss Appeared had quite a few interesting concepts, all the way towards the finale fight, but as the story progresses and the difficulty of crafting feasible and good plot ramps higher and higher, it's pretty clear that the author's writing skills were just not up to par.

This novel definitely reeks of lack of editing, so perhaps the LN did a lot better in this respect, but even so, it's an unfinished product. This comes to just the story development becoming worse and worse. There's a lot of... more>> good ideas that the author has, but he is just unable to execute on them properly, and I think what he does the worst is balancing characters with story. It's pretty clear that rather than power levels, this novel is more focused on character development, and having them take charge in progressing the story due to their motives. The problem is that almost every character becomes obsolete because of how powerful the MC and a select few others are, so what was the point of them being in the story at all?

Plus, characters aren't exactly developed well. There's a conflict between Ruphas and a character, and they usually join her side. They're given a bare bones personality and repeat the same few lines that are limited to their character. For a story that is dependent on characters carrying a story, it's sad how there's so little character development. There are a few arcs where side characters are focused upon, but they're usually pretty short and lackluster: a failed attempt of worldbuilding. In the end, they're usually challenging a monster that would easily have been blown away by Ruphas, and even without her, these characters are usually strong enough to handle any situation thrown at them. It's a wish fufillment story in that sense. Ruphas and her companions, for the most part, never were really on the backfoot in the story, and everything goes well for them.

However, it's not just bad character development that plagues this novel. Like I said before, the power levels of this story were such that only a few characters were relevant since they were so OP. And the way they get this power is dubious at best, and glanced over within a few sentences. There's no such consistency of steadily leveling up, but rather it's just a sudden boost to power. Not to mention, fights at this level are equivalent to a child's rambling- literally. If you read the novel, you would know why.

Overall, there's a lack of finesse to any of the ideas that this story puts forth, and that hurts it a lot. There are some decent ideas that it puts forth, but due to the bad character development and the story was formed, there was no way for the reader to build a genuine affection for any of the characters, and nor was there any way for them to be very invested in the plot, which took a nosedive near the finale. If there were some massive changes to how the story was shaped, and steadily built up to a climax that made more sense, then it would have been a great work. However, that wasn' t the case, and what you get is a story with OP characters fighting other OP characters, with everyone else sidelined, and no one happy. <<less

After starting out easygoing and fun it becomes drama, conspiracy, and other keywords that people seem to love and call original but that I see in pretty much any other story across any kind of media. While most people seem to like it and call light-hearted and easygoing stories bad and act like the market is over saturated with them, I instead can’t find nearly enough and am tired of these stories that lull me into a false sense of security. They either surprise me with it, or in this... more>> case try to ease me in... but the dark and edgy story full of stuff I can get in almost literally any other story is the same, so no thanks. <<less

The early-mid chapters of this series are terribly triggering due to the s*upid characters which is caused by plot armor given to some1 which is terrible way to hide anthill worth of plotholes, the idea of series gets interesting only later after you have managed to get past the torture which is when the real story begins.

Slow story, triggering, not sure if its rewarding enough.
