This isn’t your standard affair of beat-em-up power crawl. There’s a genuinely good plot line and colorful characters that brings this story to life. This is one of the better translated work out there and deserves more popularity. The story follows the MC through many conflicts during a time of war, so you get to experience more strategic nuance to fights that you don’t see in typical wuxia novels. While the MC is strong, he’s not peerless or overpowered, so the MC have to resort to wit and guile to... more>> gain victory. This story definitely earns my recommendation. <<less

Its a funny series and in many ways, I like it, but the main character is a self-centered a**hole. Sure, he'll save you if you're life is in danger, but then he'll steal everything of value on your person, slap a ransom on your head that you have to pay if you ever want to be free, and then seize every scrap of wealth that you come across without counting any of it towards your ransom. Basically, unless you can somehow manage to contact your friends and family (not likely... more>> to happen) you'll be a s*ave until the day that he decides to use you as monster bait or a meat shield. It was funny at first, but now (ch 46) it just grates on me.

He also hates thinking about anything most of the time, so if you're looking for a hero that solves problems with his head, this guy isn't really the guy that you're looking for. <<less

I think I dropped it once after prologue and c1 so you could say it has a bad start, don't let that bug you coz when you continue onto chap 2 and forwards you will see why this is an epic adventure with bits of comedy that will make you lol. It also gives a western style fantasy feel. That's it from me, I'm too lazy to write more so read other reviews XD

Writing a review as the guy currently translating the series right now feels kind of weird, but I'll do my best to keep my review as impartial as possible (and concise).

I really enjoyed the read from the beginning up to now. It gives a different flavor to the multitude of wuxia novels that we currently have, and put a different, more humorous spin to it. The MC is also much different than those that you find elsewhere- has a weird aesthetic taste, as well as in women, and on the... more>> surface is seemingly dumb, but in reality acts as a cover. The setting, though takes a bit from the empires of the past, does still make the overall story interesting to follow, and the author attempts to bring out a degree of character development.

The only qualm I have with the author is that the length of the releases are too inconsistent but that's just a personal thing ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯ <<less

This is simply hilarious. The setting is a mix of western and asian fantasy. However, the MC's cultivation and power is actually just a backdrop for story. Instead of cultivation, the actual focus is on the adventures of the MC, who is modeled after Conan the Barbarian, but funny.

Imagine a Comedy set in a fusion between Conan the Barbarian, D&D, and your generic Xianxia and you will get this story. The story is continuously funny, even at chapter 115 it is still funny. Despite being a comedy, the story manages... more>> to maintain a plot, it does not sacrifice plot to the humor but manages to contain both in harmony. <<less

It's worth reading, I'm not really a fan of comedy tag, but this one is for sure above average (the part about origin of his name definitely made my day), but most important thing is that the author knows when it should be used and when the story should go with more serious theme.

Sadly It's forgotten for so long...

EDIT (11.2019) : Since my last comment I came across some really nice novels, so I should change rating for this one to more like ~4stars, but let's keep it high, maybe... more>> some1 will pick it up finally :) <<less

This Novel is Hilarius, for real give it a try guys

– the MC “Shaar” because of the old man who raised him, does have a varied of funny worldviews, from believing that “Big Women” are the epitome of sexiness to thinking that a man`s “Morning Wood” is the pride of man

– But don`t get confused he is realy strong, all thx to the training the old man gave him and the hellish place he grow up

– There is loots of random humor like the time he defeated a mighty thunder... more>> wolf with a stick to the a$$

So I could spoil the (fun) stuff he does, because he is poor like a beggar and trying to get some cash but it`s more fun if you read the novel yourself.

BTW: 5/5 forgot to click the last star lol <<less

Average. Not much more to say. The comedy was pretty amusing, his aesthetic sense was hilarious the first and second time and the chapters before joining the military was generally pretty good. After joining the military, at least 50% of the chapters would focus on other people and redundant details. The comedy disappeared just about completely. When the war was finally over, we got some comedy again, but the author plays too much on the aesthetic sense gag, it's not funny after the first few times. The power system was... more>> boring and unclear. We don't get to see any clear progress in the MCs development. The author made a good start and it rapidly started to decline after 50 or so chapters.

Sorry, but I found this novel to be... not worth my time. It was just uninteresting. Although I got a few laughs, that was the only good part. The jokes in this novel was about 40% homos*xual jokes, 40% aesthetic sense jokes and 20% random stuff that was usually not funny at all. I don't feel like this novel was written well at all, although it was better than "Law of the devil" by the same author, it was still subpar, I guess I didn't really expect anything less from the author of that tr*sh.

So... Well, I guess it's worth reading if you like a novel about a berserker with a crippled sense of beauty and common sense, that later on joins the army and suddenly changes to become an army man loyal to the army he was assigned to. He's the type of guy who doesn't really think enough before acting, a hothead. Oh, and you must also be prepared to read about worthless details about unimportant characters or things that can take up a chapter or two easily. These people and things will never be relevant to the story or necessary in any way and the author is clearly just using them to meet the word count in an easy way by making random sh*t up. Oh, god is it funny to read about extensive background details spanning one or more chapters concerning random minor characters. <<less

I dont usually post review, but I feel like this novel should be more know : one of the most interesting MC I saw, which change from the typical badass and rightous one. And the interactions between the MC and the pitifull one is pretty interesting. Other area from your typical xanxia too : give more of a western-medieval feel.

In short, change quite a lot from the usual cultivation novel you can see, and relived me of my boredom from seeing an n'ieme op MC who kills the bad guy,... more>> saves his clan, and seducts the hotes <<less

Very good. Excellent MC that is interesting, sympathetic and amusing. The MC, though strong, is not overly so, and the story doesn't rely on convenient breakthroughs/level ups to overcome difficulties, but rather on the MC being clever or cunning when required. It's well paced and with many well drawn characters from the very start.

It's a huge pity that the translation has stopped.

Beautiful. I usually don't review based on the first 15 chapters, but his "aesthetic view" really threw me for a loop. This story is original, which is something I've failed to find in all but 4 wuxia novels. Hilarious and written well based on the beginning, at least.

A really good novel with good plot. The MC as mentioned before feels more human which is a big plus for me. Should be much more popular than what it is.

Really a good story! The premise are good and the MC's personality are consistent no matter what the circumstances is. Its humourous and a bit funny yet cruel at some point. Totally recommended

Tho I'll drop it since I didn't really like him joining the army. I should have seen it coming since the title is "Conquest". Well not that I have any problem him joining the Army but still, I didn't like how it is executed.

Spoiler

I mean, 2-3 chapter prior, the princess ask him if he wants to join the army but he refused saying that he doesn't like being under someone and most importantly, he wants to do things freely. Then 3 chapters later he joins the army. What's more idiotic for me is the fact that he joined just because the general said "Do you dare to join!?" and he be like "Yes I dare!". Then I didn't read the rest. Truthfully, it feels like his character went down the drain since for me he's someone who's smart, calculative, ignorant and most importantly, knows his pros and cons. And I didn't see any pros joining the army

[collapse]

Again, don't get me wrong. I don't have any problem any MC joining the army but this MC is different since he is portrayed as someone who's ignorant yet smart but a bit childish. Someone who likes to be free.

Nevertheless, I would definitely read this if he didn't join the army since the story, the MC and other characters are good and worth the time to read. So don't mind me since dropping it is only baecause of my personal preference. <<less

Currently a solid four.... one can't help but pity the poor MC for his.. taste in women at the moment.. He is a strong fighter though, and the plot is pretty okay... not great but okay for now (it's still early.)

Recommending this to anyone who likes xianxia type novels. :3

I don’t quite understand the thing with Shaar’s sense of beauty, I mean I personally don’t think it’s possible to teach a child what is beautiful and what its not, at least I don’t remember being thought which girls are pretty and which aren’t and I’ve never seem to have any conflict of opinion with other fellow males opinions. Other than that pretty nice novel.

"One of the better Chinese Wuxia novels. The characters are a lot more dynamic and have quite colorful personalities. The MC feels more human, than 95% of other Chinese protagonists that I have read about. I highly recommend this."

Right on the mark... MC is actual human. Humor in novel is great too, action scenes well described. Great novel and novel for those who dont want to turn off their brain while reading something because plot dont have so many holes like swiss cheese.

World building phase and story development everything is golden how is this not in the top 10 maybe because of the broken translations making it a bit rough to follow with constant changes to translators and styles.
