This is not a story rife with harems and complicated love relationships, so if you are looking for that, this novel will not be a forerunner for you. However, this novel has incredible character growth, character interactions, and dialogue you will find within this site. It’s a story based upon morals and friendships at its base and gives the reader a glimpse of burning hot passion just through its words. It’s an incredible story and I highly recommend it. Incredible action, great characters, and beautiful world building.

First I would like to thanks the author and the translator for bringing this great novel to life. The story is great from the beginning to end there might be some chapters that is slightly all over the place and its really hard to understand if your not reading it well to those who fast read the chapters... but overall its great and I like how the ending ends. Its open to new possible scenario it might have a sequel so we are waiting for it. Great work. BUL'TAARRR.

It starts not great but as the story unfolds itself it becomes better and better. If you think it's a story about a vrmmorpg like LMS, Ark or whatnot you'd be wrong. The game doesn't feel like a game at all but like it's another world. The NPCs are all unique and deep like human beings so it's easy to understand why the MC gets so immersed in the game. Sometimes I even ask myself if levels are relevant.

And also the MC doesn't depend on the game to live like... more>> other stories of the genre where the MC has to either get money from the game because he is sooo poor and the game is the mean to change his destiny or the game has impact on real life. Here the MC is doing ok in his life and starts the game for fun because he wants to protect her and help her level up. <<less

This really reminds me of Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, except that (for the most part) the author doesn't meander about with a bunch of pointless "side-quests." The world is very well done, there is a conclusive ending, and the author left himself a doorway to potentially continue the world with another book later on. There are still questions about the world left unanswered, but that's okay, because this book isn't about the world, it's about the MC trying to make his way through it. He doesn't have all the answers, and... more>> neither should we.

I would like to point out that the summary at the top really does this book injustice. I was expecting some sort of cliched "I'm going to protect my sister by travelling everywhere with her, and not letting any man touch her" etc, etc.... and it had virtually none of that, for which I am very thankful.

There are still some parts that I skimmed over, and I feel like the book could have done with some more interactions with people that the MC knew in the real world. It would have been nice to have explored the world a bit more as well, because it just felt like the MC was simply moving from one massive fight to the next with no breaks in between.

Overall, I'm rather impressed with this book, and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a VR or Fantasy novel. <<less

First thing first, the novel is by far a great novel with interesting plot and characters.I enjoyed it through and through and has always been looking forward to the next chapter whenever it came out heck, I even paid $50 per month on the translator's patreon page just to read ahead a few more chapters. However (-1 star), as I read along the way, I felt like some part of the story are needed another chapter or so, just to get a better conclusion and the arc before the final... more>> arc need to be extended more instead of stopping at 75%. Then move to the final arc all of a sudden, leaving out much-needed final conclusion for the arc as a whole. Therefore, even so the novel has an interesting plot, it's not "complete" in my opinion and the characters well.......i will just say that you will like the MC a LOT, and no he is not overpowered nor he is liked those MC that are willing and somehow able to kill people left to right with his overpowered plot-enhanced weapons and gears, just because he is the "MC", yes I am talking about you two Mr. Zhang Yang (MMORPG: Rebirth of the legendary guardian) and Mr. Ling Tian (Shura's warth) -_-. That is all for my review and yeah, you will not regret reading it. Enjoy! <<less

As an escapist story, it is really good. It was exciting, fun and generally easy to digest. Read and enjoy the journey.

Most of the characters are likeable. Many especially the protagonist are exaggerated and larger-than-life making them a bit difficult to identify with but they sure make for an exciting story to read.

The are a large the number of different places the story goes to in the fantasy realm and that offers various materials to the story. The story also just stay there just long enough to keep it from... more>> getting stale.

The plot is a constant high of excitement and tension as it progress from one quest to the next, with a few exceptions. It is really a plus for those who wants just a good exciting story.

Now, while it is a really good in delivering the goods, it does come with major flaws. The plot while exciting is rather predictable. The setting while plentiful is not detailed. The real world is bland, clumsily integrated and poorly executed. The characters, while bigger than life, are rather flat and have simplistic developments. A lot of things are not explained and certain things like the skills are really inconsistent. And the epilogue tarnishes the story's ending with a rushed pace and cliche development and an open-ended conclusion.

I debate whether to give a three of a four but settle on four. While it is really flawed and kinda superficial, it does provided me with a lots of fun and excitement. It has the spirit of an enjoyable story. <<less

Story was interesting except for the last few chapters. The ending devolved into the typical shounen-style stuff that I dislike. Enemies turn into friends, and a deus-ex-machina shows up so that the MC gets to save the world with his passion and the power of friendship, turning truth into lies while changing his own self-satisfied wishes into truth.

If you don't mind the shounen-style ending, most of the story is reasonably good. The MC is properly fleshed-out. He has his own motivations, and like everyone he has his core character while... more>> putting on different masks for different occasions. In front of his younger sister, he is a doting and over-protective big brother. In his daily life, he is a kind and gentle (plus good-looking) cafe owner and boss. To his martial arts master, he is a diligent and somewhat dutiful disciple with good morals. In his previous job, he was a skilled and merciless mercenary. In the game (other world), he matched the behaviour expected of the perfect orc warrior of that world.

There is some comedy in this story, just not the slapstick variety. The humour occurs naturally, without being forced. That said, I'm not sure there is enough comedy to justify the comedy tag, although this feeling may be coloured by the final arc of the story.

I enjoyed much of the story, and rather liked the MC until the final arc. His flaws made him realistic and not some kind of self-insert Gary Stu character. Then came the last arc. His flaws didn't change, but the change in setting made those flaws more glaring and less forgivable. He acted as he liked, being "manly, " playing Hero by plunging headlong into trouble while the author keeps on letting him get away with it by introducing increasingly obvious and heavy-handed acts-of-god. <<less

Novel began like an ok novel, but turns out it's quite mediocre, with little substance.

This novel is a much lesser version of LMS. Same elements. A class thought to be useless but gets popular due to MC, a bland male lead that about honor in his head, has women throwing themselves at him left and right, so "skilled" at the VR.

I think this novel deserves a <3.0 average. (Personally a 2).

Finally, most of this novel's high ratings come from new accounts, which is sad.

Originally rated this as 5, then MC got companions. Which happened to be most badly written characters I've seen in a while. Irritating, unnecessary and constantly present. I could go on with my dislike of them (there's plenty I can to say) but I'd rather move on to the rest of the novel.

This novel obviously takes a lot of inspiration from LMS, but I feel like it handles itself far better, at least so far. I'd postpone judging this novel until you have read far enough for the big reveal... more>> (which shouldn't be a big surprise at that point), as it explains a lot. Of course, you'd need appreciation for the genre to get that far.

Speaking of that, behold a rare case of an author that knows how to write an interesting OP protagonist and good battles on top of that. If you want predictable face slapping and roflstomping go read something else. <<less

Retired mercenary owned a cafe and playing VRMMO game to surprise his sister by choosing a game avatar that regarded as ugly mob monster by other users? the hell is that... and the other users just too s*upid not knowing the different between npc and player and not reporting the MC that disturb others playing session by locking an avatar with a ropes? oh godammit. Then the company that run the game server let an AI to lock the system resulting the admin cannot handle bad user like the mc?...... more>> and that happening on frequent times?.... wHAT??!!! and let the AI to transfer real money to the players secretly? what the.... I will just close down the game and create a new one without s*upid AI.

At first was meh with forced logic of the story, then turn out good when the orc warrior was born, fight strong monster, gain ally, respect, some drama and such, and all the things that confusing was explained why... but it still feels s*upid and forced idea. Then things when dark all of sudden and the MC became too s*upid by playing around with a war, resulting almost everyone around him being killed... die a dog's death.... so he can be a hero...

Well, its hard to please a lot readers, but I got urge to throw a rock on author's face after reading c124-125 hahahaha. <<less

What we have here is another korean mmorpg novel. A young ex-super solider mercenary decides to play the newest mmorpg on the market. Right off the bat I can tell you that this novel is written similar to The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, in that you have a single warrior catching up to top tier players extremely quickly then surpassing them just as quickly. Whats different is that the MC seems to not be interacting much with other players at the moment, and his party seems like it will be filled... more>> with NPCs.

What I like about this novel, is that there are moments where the author writes the motivation/desire of the MC, which is a man's romance of fighting against the odds for honor. However what I don't like is that the author does not play off this theme consistently, and the author seems to be forgetting about the passion, making some clashes between MC and his conflicts feel like its puppets on strings when it could of been a passion filled battle.

The MC's background of being a super-solider mercenary is rather cringe, as the MC does not act whatsoever like I imagine a professional mercenary would act. It is a given though that in the mmorpg novels that the real life chapters are the weakest part of the story. His past seems to just be an excuse for a peerless jade beauty ceo to be madly in love with him, and for him to beat up gangsters while impressing more girls. Which is a bit of a disappointment. The MC feels much more like your generic college kid that you see in every novel.

Ultimately this novel manages to bring some new elements to the increasingly popular mmorpg genre, as the MC is a passionate warrior, which contrasts to the many novels inspired by Weed where the MC is a money grubbing sociopath. The weak parts of the novel consist of chapters in which he interacts with other real life humansk, both in game and outside of the game. The reaction chapters to the MC's achievements feel incredibly forced and unnatural for so many people to be inspired by a noob orc. At the end of the day I would say that the novel is worth a read, and definitely a novel to keep a eye on. It could be a great novel if the author improves his writing. <<less

I really like it. When reading, it gives a similar feel to Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. The world is interesting and the MC relatable. He´s someone that after seeing war, somewhat lost faith in humanity and gets drawn into a game, where people actually know honor and principles. I like, that from early on it´s foreshadowed, that this will probably go into a direction like Log horizon. In conclusion the Gamesystem itself is very interesting and not as static as in most other VRMMO novels. The MC has no actual goal... more>> in the game, it´s a hobby. So we follow his adventure as he trys to play by his creed, code of honor, knight oath, bushido, whatever you call it and kick the asses of despicable people, that should be beaten down in real life and not just the game. If you are looking for a novel that strays from the template and you are into manly MCs, then this is the right novel <<less

At first this led me to think this was going to be another novel very similar to zhan long (which was a major let down), because, MC is from the army, crazy powerful with some unknown martial art, and I felt as if he will sooner or later achieve a grand harem, and cause he from the army he of course going to be super op.

BUUUTT I was wrong, compared to zhan long this manga is a lot deeper than it seems to be in the beginning. it will you... more>> have revealing testosterone in your body you didn't even know you had. MC goes on adventures on becoming a true warrior, and it's actually very praise worthy (as the title mentions lol) considering the evil deeds of majority of other users like himself... the fighting and power up are very well balancing despite him moving up the ranks so fast, he earned the skills and level he achieved, and not just from bs encounters... Did I mention GREAT character development, which makes anything #1 in my book, especially a novel like this, as the NPC has better character development then users.

ps. I apologize, first review and I wrote this towards the end of class, so I rushed, but yeah awesome novel. <<less

[Edit: After finishing the story, my view of this LN has greatly improved. Once you accept that this story will not delve deeply in VRMMO elements, it gets much better. I haven't found the VRMMO novel that scratches my itch yet but this is one hell of a fantasy adventure novel. With some of the best conscripted battle scenes I've read yet, I'd recommend this to any who want a good adventure LN.

The bit of wish fulfillment that was present in the begining of the story slowly evaporated mid-way.... more>> The ending was just a tiny bit rushed but overall the author planned the story structure well.]

Original review:

Why do literally all VRMMO game light novels suffer from authors who can't match their video game tech to the real world tech? It really breaks up my engagement to the genre.

These stories are all usually place somewhere in the near distance future where VR tech have just recently improved drastically and will ALWAYS have some rogue/mysterious/missing/time-traveling/alien mega-genius programmer who somehow builds an AI all by himself that is so advance that it makes the game that our MC plays super-duper awesome. This is the literally the only (shitty) way you can present this phenomenon of having an advanced AI in games in a modern world setting.

In reality, good AI is extremely HARD to make. You'll need a very large staff of mega-genius programmers to even get close to AI that these novels established so conveniently. These programmers will also NOT be working first for a video game company and would instead be paid by something similar to say... GOOGLE. Essentially for these stories to have these advanced AI built into games, AI would have already been incorporated in most other avenues of our world's development, drastically changing the way our society would function.

What's great about this is that you can have an amazing story from just incorporating these concepts alone. No need to make the premise in modern-ish day society. Mix it up, get creative, ya lazy authors.

Another completely reasonable approach is to incorporate bad AI. Does a cool VRMMO need realistic NPCs? NO. They can have awesome game developers with maybe a select few NPCs who are almost realistic. Yeah, our MC's engagement to the game could suffer drastically.. but so what? Most people play MMOs for player community engagement. Have our novel be about our MC interacting with people in the game, or even better, with game developers themselves. Game devs are people too. They can provide a story, and can make a great supporting cast.

Haven't seen a light novel capture a good "it's just a game" concept well yet. They all tend to glorify them blindly. I'd love a story where characters will have conflicting emotions and sometimes get lost in the game, losing sight of reality, questioning core concepts like what is happiness and what is fulfilling in life. In reality, the first well designed very immersive VRMMO will cause a global existential crisis and I'm still waiting for the right light novel to scratch that "what-if" itch.

TL;DR Praise the Orc is probably one of the better VRMMO LN so far, but still suffers from gaping logistical issues that really destroys any immersion to the story outside the game. Under the hood, it's just another wish fulfillment novel. <<less

The story itself is good and well, the MC is also manly as many other comments say "Bultar!" but let me warn you:

Spoiler

MC in this story cannot save 90% of the people he wants to save and it becomes so frustrating and painful to read so if you are looking for a MC Weak to Strong that can save most if not everyone I would definitely not recommend this novel (which is why I also dropped it at that point)

[collapse]

Other than that story and world-building is nice the sole reason that I reduced the point from 5 to 2 is in the spoiler section. <<less

I won't write a lot, one word great !

Best novel with 'game element' I've read so far, I create a account to rate it 5 start, even afer ten of thousands of chapter read I never take the time to do it. But I think this novel deserve it like crazy !

The only aspect that is a bit lacking is the romance. So It's only worth 4.5 starts mb, but still I great novel

I try to write a review when I finish the book, but I'm about to drop it because it's so tr*sh. I can't believe this is at 4.4 at the time of writing (20190731) when the characters, plot, and dialogue are tr*sh.

The MC is a super soldier who in the past saved the heiress of one of Korea's biggest corporations. She secretly crushes on him, of course. He's the perfect man as well. Extremely kind and caring. Cliche trope vomit. All that can be overlooked if the story from there... more>> progresses well, but you have to constantly stop when reading and exclaim outloud, wtf, really?

It's like a book form of a C tier anime aimed at 12 year olds. It's all about burning man passion and cringe dialogue. When it's supposed to be serious, it comes out all wrong. I'm at chapter 114 and they're in the middle of a war, but they're all talking like a bunch of idiot kids. There's no suspense or tension and it's just too hard to believe the world building.

Overgeared was deserving of it's 3.7-3.9 rating because it wasn't a well written novel either, but at least it has a lot of hype and fun at points.

Avoid this garbage if you have limited time. <<less

The entire story as a whole I would say is pretty good, nice morals and interesting characters n' sh*t but the ending just made me laugh audibly, which I didn't really expect considering how serious the novel was taking itself up to that point. Overall I would recommend you give it a try, the beginning is a bit slow but after chapter 20 it speeds up and gains intrigue

a good VR story with a likable, white knight type MC (always saving others and talking about honor and justice). His reason for joining is believable in the context of the story since he's already established he'd do anything to protect his sister. His joining to help protect her from pe*verts in the game is in line with his over protective big brother personality however, there's zero actual interaction between their characters in the game because she quits before he makes it to her city and (as far as I... more>> know) never went back to playing. His reason for staying in Elder Lord has nothing to do with her and everything to do with the sheer joy of being who and what he is. Of course the motivation changes later, but some of that simple joy remains.

the author is really good at the dialogue between Crockta and his companions and creates characters that are quirky, memorable, and interesting. I preferred their often funny interactions to the fight fight fight - hack hack hack sections of the book which took up a majority of the later half of the story as he seems to run from one war to the next with no breaks in between. I was pretty sad there wasn't more of the three of them just exploring the world before they had to go off and fight evil empires and gods and the like.

Lastly, the ending. How can you end it like that?! What happened next? Is there an extra chapter pt 4 or did the book really stop right in the middle of a scenario? Will there be a sequel to focus on the new situation on earth? What a horrible cliffy way to end it. It's mostly the ending that has me giving this a four instead of a five.

also, I notice that almost all of the bad reviews are from people who didn't bother to read very far into the story, (if they read it at all). Considering there are only 208 chapters, that really says something. <<less
