Dropped it because

Spoiler

ML is too much of a stalker for my taste. Everyone else seems to gush about his feelings or laugh at his "doting" actions, but it creeps me out. Poor MC is being tortured. Even his pet is getting tortured. How would you feel if you decisively dislike someone, yet find him RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR BEDROOM WINDOW?! F--- creepy! And how would you feel if your cherished pet is being bullied by his pet? As in, ML PHYSICALLY INTRUDES INTO MC'S ROOM TO PLACE ANOTHER ANIMAL NEAR HIS PET TO BULLY IT!

[collapse]

It's an unhealthy relationship. I suggest that readers NOT copy this type of "wooing" else they get sent to jail. <<less

I really didnt expect such a good story when I first picked this and boy was I wrong. This was honestly a really good read and I personally really liked it that I was practically listless for a day after I read this (upto the current chapter unfortunately tho).

The MC at the beginning comes off as kinda super tsundere but it's hilarious none the less.

Spoiler

It may seem like his excuses make absolutely no sense and s*upid at times that even I just couldn't even laugh anymore (i swear that one time he used an excuse like the fog was bad for the skin so he was gonna stay at the ML s place that night cause of that). But this all kinda just cl**ked at the right place for me especially right after that scene where MC clearly shows that he has feelings for the ML too for the VERY first time (it was HILARIOUS and it wasn't even a bloody confession.... I think? XD, hint: remember the typhoon? :D). But more so than feelings their relationship has a fair share of building on lust and so on, especially the ML since he kinda fell in love at first sight with MC... but don't get me wrong the ML kinda reeeeally dotes on the MC so much that it's so cute and aww. But it got kinda weird that BOTH the ML and MC were virg*ns tho so there was no "upper hand" in their relationship when it came to"experience" in this *cough*criteria*cough*

[collapse]

DEFINITELY worth the read and the ML and MC might not seem on equal footing ability wise at the beginning but the MC is catching up with the ML so what can I say (although their relationship may seem a bit unbalanced it left room for character development (i think?) and it fit well together with the two of them and so on so I'm honestly happy with it). Anyway, can't say that it's a cup of tea for a first time BL/Danmei readers but without the smutty scenes (there aren't all that many actually until the current ch at the moment) it's a hilarious read for anyone who's interested.

As someone who reads quite a bit of BL, I reeeally recommend people to read this if you're looking for a BL to read cause it won't disappoint you, especially if you looking for a good laugh.

I'd honestly give it 5/5 but I'm holding myself back until the end of the novels, and also the translators are really good so cheers :) <<less

To be honest, the relationship of the main couple and side couples are toxic.

Spoiler

Let's start of our main CP: Xia Yao

Yuan Zong

    • YZ seems to be a perfect boyfriend, I am right? But he actually never treats XY as his equal. Yes, he spoils him, protects him, treasures him and loves him dearest but he actually never considered XY's opinions nor tell XY about his plans. Till the end that is their set up.
    • Like for example, when he gave the 5M to Tian guy to keep him but never bothered to discuss it with XY.
    • Especially when he gave the company to the Tian guy with out even discussing it to XY. You could actually see that it bothered XY so much, and was very reluctant to give it. Yes, it's morally correct but it is s*upid. He can actually give other compensations without disregarding XY's opinion and they have a lot of memories there, but he can throw it away whenever he want, never bothering if his lover will be hurt by that move. *I really want to drop reading this after this part but I was waiting that maybe YZ can listen to XY and get it back, but no he didn't. This really bothered me. Since in the earlier chapters, didn't XY did his best to maintain the orderliness of the company after ZY left for his hometown. Till now, I'm still bothered since it is a pretty s*upid thing to do. Imagine giving all your youth for that company and just giving it away. It really isn't my cup of tea.
    • Few chapters before the ending, the mom's arc. I was really annoyed how ZY treat XY as an air. He knows how dense his sweetheart is, and knows that he is prone to misunderstanding, yet he chased XY's mom and set aside XY's affair. Even if you want the recognition of your mother-in-law, it doesn't mean you can treat your lover like he doesn't exist. Cutting your connection and hiding from him is no way to go.
    • During XY's birthday eve, he actually ruined XY's night by dropping a bombshell about that plot of land as well as acting as that he forgot XY's bday, yes there is a follow up birthday surprise, but once the feelings are felt can we just pass it as if it never happened? XY was hurt, that was undeniable, during ZY courting XY's mom, XY has a monologue where he said that his heart hurts more than the bu*t slaps ZY gave.
    • XY was really insecure with their relationship after they arrived from America. Can you be not, when your lover suddenly disappears and treats you as nothing, not to mention ZY never consoled XY about this. Till the end I was thinking that ZY only likes XY's face and body, and nothing else, since everytime they got problems they need to talk about, it is all solved by s*x.
    • Is XY perfect lover? The answer is also NO. He got a lot of imperfections. It actually annoyed me when he bottle ups everything instead of talking things through.
    • When Yuan Ru (sis) was kidnapped and almost r*ped, he actually never told YZ about it which is wrong. YZ has the every right to know since he is the big brother and YR's only relative.
    • He also gets pointlessly jealous over everything, got a pretty big brainhole to fill up all the details with insufficient evidence.
    • The over prolonged break up chase is also pretty irritating. It was pretty tiring since that arc was prolonged way too much.
    • Near the end, I actually don't like XY's mom anymore. The change of character setting is really unnecessary, it didn't make he any likeable at all.

Side couple: Xuan

Wang

    • Actually, I hate this CP at the beginning. Let's talk about Wang's character. I really hate when he's selling pity to others. Yes, he is morally crooked (I actually likes black bellied characters but he won't just do for me). I really hate it when he is lying and selling miserable yet at the same time blaming others for the consequences of his actions. Stealing is a crime, Slander is a crime, r*pe is also a crime. Kind of crook and yet he always get a way out of it.
    • Now the Xuan guy. He is pretty indecisive and kind of a scum, if he like XY, he should not use Wang as a replacement. No, it is never healthy to make your lover plan himself to be a substitute of others. It may be resolved as the relationship goes on but it will always leave a deep mark on the lover.
    • I just skim when they appear in the beginning since their interaction really irks me.

Side couple: Peng

Li

  • Among the 3, Peng is the scummiest. Li guy deserves better than this verbally abusive and indecisive scum. Verbal abuse is still an abuse. He keeps calling Li guy s**tty yet when Li guy moved on he keeps chasing his ass.
  • Li, you deserve better dear. Even if you are to s**tty, you still deserve someone to treasure you.
    [collapse]
The ending is nice, ends in a surprise. It's funny but also has angst. There are red flags all over the series, I just kept reading but I was really bothered about it.

Let me remind you that spoiling others to the highest heaven doesn't give you any ticket to emotionally abuse them leaving deep marks. Once emotional pain is felt you can't just let is pass as if it never happened just because you are gonna pamper them afterwards. That's a pretty big red flag!

I enjoyed it. I feel like people need to start thinking that this is just a novel, a fiction story. if you don't like what it contains then you don't like it. However to tell other people to not read it because they themself don't enjoy it is wrong. Just because you don't like it and comment about it, doesn't mean other people won't like it. And I also don't like it when people who hate the novel thinks people who likes it are crazy or whatever. I just see... more>> that a lot nowadays... sadly.

But anyway, this was another enjoyable read, however this was one one of the novel where I enjoyed the ML over the MC. However both suit each other very. The side couples are good too, however was hoping there could be more details of them throughout the novel, like more of there relationship progress... I just feel like it wasn't enough haha! <<less

Sigh, what to say about this? I absolutely dislike the MC. There's a limit to being a tsundere and being s*upid but he crosses it. The scenerioes in the story are just wtf ish. The ML is not any better. Got in the way of his sister's wooing of the MC, stalked and harassed the MC. I suppose if you find that kinda thing fun, you'd probably enjoy this. Actually I have no problems with this scenario, my main problem with this book is the characters themselves -... more>>
Spoiler

you have an extreme tsundere MC, a Gary stu with stalker tendencies, a pick pocket who uses chicken blood to make another character believe that the character violently r*ped him, said character got people to gang bang pick pocket for robbing from him. The story is just a pot of wtf characters and wtf writing. My favorite character was ruined for no reason other than the author needed a villain and I guess ML sister is not villain enough material

Awesome entertainment. Charismatic couple. Action packed story with enough mush and smex in the mix although realism might be tad bit wonky. The courting part was really fun especially in the beginning. That man was super persistent, super superglue-type, super patient, super caring, super doting, super passionate and importantly... a super beast in bed. That uke has no way of escaping such a perfect man and he even cooks like a 5-star chef! And and and looks like a supermodel. What more could you ask for? Come here my McDreamy!... more>> Muaks!

Honestly, my brain still hurts from reading this. As does my heart. I wanted so very much to like it. So many times I wanted to just hurl my phone into the beyond because of how much I disliked the characters. So yeah, my review...

Spoiler

Let's start with the basic storyline: This is what drew me in. I loved the idea of the whole - girl wants boy, boy ignores girl, girl enlists brother to help obtain boy, brother falls for boy instead. I mean, YES. Right? Let's do it! Only, what I got was not what I expected.

The story itself was largely unbelievable and frustrating for me. Things happen that literally stopped me in the middle of a sentence and made me go.... "What????" This should absolutely come with a supernatural tag because basic physics is just not present at all. Also, the devoted and doting lovers tags are highly questionable. The comedy is 100% there, as is the smut. Though many of the smut scenes border on the r*pey side, so you should prepare yourself if you are easily triggered. There should also be abuse tags, because there is physical, mental, and emotional abuse in this story. Also, the general depiction of the police in this book bothered me a lot. To build up a single character, it felt as though the police were - essentially - made into a rather pathetic joke. Also! An animal cruelty tag is needed! OMG

Characters:

Yuan Ru. Largely I just found her annoying. She essentially forces her way into Xia Yao's life because he's her "ideal type" and refuses to take no for an answer. Even when he makes it very very clear that he does not, nor will he ever, want her, she persists. It's pathetic really. Like at least have a little bit of self-respect please. But no. She see's a good looking, strong man and just claims him as her own whether he wants her or not. To the point that she does some highly questionable things. But then, questionable behavior seems to run in her family. On the plus side, she does become more tolerable later in the story and I actually start to like her a little.

Yuan Zong. To say that I absolutely hate Yuan Zong would be an understatement. I detest him. In fact, most of the way through the book I just referred to him as the stalker. He's abrasive, abusive, dismissive, and cares very little for how his partner (who he essentially forced into his life because he thought he was pretty) feels or what he thinks. He's twenty times worse than his sister. He solves his problems with either violence or s*x or simply just throws money at it. The fact that he punishes and belittles his lover like a child and uses s*x and mind games against him as a weapon is sickening. Does he have any good qualities? Yes. I think there are some soft points to him. I think he has the potential to be a good man. I think somewhere in his broken brain he actually loves Xia Yao. Sadly for me, it wasn't enough. There's too much bad and it overshadows the good. Xia Yao deserved better than him.

Xia Yao. I love, hate, and pity this man. I love how sweet and big hearted he is. He's the guy you want to be friends with because even if he dislikes you, he will take care of you. I hate that he has no backbone when it comes to Yuan Zong. I hate that he goes back and forth between being a strong, competent man to being a pitiful, idiotic child. I pity him because every time he tries to stand up for himself, all Yuan Zong has to do is force s*x on him (and I do mean force) and he forgets all about it. This is not healthy. It's toxic.

The side characters were true side characters whom I mostly loved. They, honestly, were the only reasons I kept reading.

Loved Xia Yao's father and I wish he'd been in the story more. He seemed to actually care for his son and they seemed to have a somewhat healthy relationship. Absolutely hated his mother. Mother Xia was overbearing to the point that I was surprised her son wanted to be around her at all. And then she just flipped a switch and was like - 'You're own your own. I don't even care anymore.' It was mind-numbing.

Xia Yao's friends had their own toxic relationships but I found myself actually rooting for Peng Ze/Li Zhen Zhen. Xuan Da Yu I absolutely loved but wished he'd been the one that ended up with Xia Yao. They might have had a healthy, loving relationship. Wang Zhi Shui, however, was a little too much like Yuan Ru and Yuan Zong for my tastes and far more annoying. Perhaps if he had grown up a little and gotten over himself, I could have liked him more.

Tian Yan Qi. Honestly, I disliked him. I felt like he was inserted into the story just so that Yuan Zong could have a real love affair without "having an affair". Had they ended up together, it probably would have been better. They were the real couple and felt more like equals. Yuan Zong treated him with respect, valued his opinion, depended on him, and even showed genuine affection and caring for him. These are things Yuan Zong rarely, if ever, did for Xia Yao. Xia Yao, denoted by Yuan Zong's actions, was a pretty, hapless child that needed to be protected and told how to think and how to act and when to submit.

Hei Zi, bless this man, just felt like a missed opportunity. I couldn't respect him as a bad guy because Yuan Zong was so much worse.

[collapse]

Now, to be fair, I did read some of the reviews before reading the story myself. I did not go into this blind. I also did not want to judge the story without reading it myself and neither should you. Always give any story a fair chance and read it yourself before making a decision.

That being said, did I hate everything about Advance Bravely? No. I liked some of the characters and the basic storyline. Loved other characters to the point that I will keep them in my heart.

Would I read Advance Bravely again? No. Not ever.

Would I recommend it to anyone? Yes. What I dislike, you may love. Go and experience it for yourself. <<less

Among all CJD novels I read (Counterattack and Addicted) this is the story I can’t forget. Just as Addicted touched my heart in different ways, AB has its own taste. I love the interaction between of MC and ML, and this is the first time I read BL novel with modern action. If you ask if I would read this again, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!

Definitely worth the ride!

Dropped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the heck is this story? It's like a badly written fanfiction and not an actual novel.

Spoiler

The story is nonsense... This stalking thing at the beginning is creepy!!! But the most infuriating thing with it is that a policeman is the one who is stalked by someone and cannot do anything. WHY? He is a f*cking police officer!!!!

[collapse]

At this point I could not bring myself to read it further, but one of my friends sent some screen shots and the story or characters does not seem to improve, so I'm done with this novel.

The other thing that made this novel even more unreadable for me is the horrible translation!!! The comments inserted by the translator are annoying and sometimes spoilerish. And the translator was not able to write down the characters name properly. Xia Yao was sometimes Xi Ya, Xiao Ya, Xio Yi.... But Ruan Zong's name also got changed to something else sometimes. This mistake happened in almost every freaking sentence... So at this point I'm not even sure what is the MC's name...

Only start reading this thing, if you are okay with idiot, creepy characters, nonsense illogical stories and you like to read spoilerish, idiotic comments from the translator in the middle of a sentence. <<less

I have mixed feelings about this novel.

If there is true a positive note is there is enough smut for everyone with some leftovers.

However, the characters themselves are problematic and the actions they take are questionable. You will spend half the time screaming if you just communicate better !!

Overall if you can push past that, its a easy read for those days you don't want to think too much.

I read this novel long ago and always wanted to rate it but had no account. I strongly believe that this novel is underrated.

ML

The ML seems like a real creep in his courting (aka stalking) of the MC at start but just please bear with it for a while. (I'm sure in BL novels you would have seen more creepy ways) I disliked him at first because of that. But later I changed my views on him. The ML is one of the best boyfriend/husband of BL novels.

... more>> MC

He is cute sometimes. But boy he is really unreasonable and s*upid at times. *Sigh*

MC and ML both are possessive and jealous kind of partners; both have combat ability (ML>MC)

Romance is good and fluffy.

Smut : Consensual and Hot; MC is super active partner when it comes to s*x which really surprised me because before I read this novel, I only encountered passive or reluctant kind of bottom MCs. In it both of them are active ones. ◆It may sound weird but before reading this novel I almost came to believe that in all the Chinese BL novels, One partner is always reluctant one or passive; well it maybe noted that I haven't read that many BL novels before it; this novel enlightened me😂😂

It is hilarious at parts.

Angst is because of communication gap and over thinking.

It can be said that the relationship is unhealhty because how they dont communicate at that time.

Side couples are a but toxic ones.

All in all I love this novel.

Totally recommended.

I like it more than "Addicted" because I read this one first. Now it's in my re-read list. <<less

I watched the drama first before reading the novel, the drama is a bit clunky and there are holes that are left unexplained, so I went to the novel for some clarifications.

The story is basically about unhealthy relationships and there are a lot of alarm bells. I get that a lot of people would just brush it out as "it's just fiction" and gush over YZ's behaviour, and there are a lot of "if you don't like it don't read it" but to me I wonder if they know the... more>> clear difference between consented rough play and an all out s*xual violation. To my understanding a lot of times XY didn't give his consent and YZ went for it anyway. There are so many things that YZ did to XY that if that were to happen to a female character, it doubt it would be viewed as "cool" and have readers gush all over it. YZ on the other hand, is overly jealous and I wonder where's the trust? To me I also feel that XY developed some kind of unhealthy attachment to YZ due to his domineering behaviour. I kept reading for awhile hoping that it gets better and the characters redeem themselves, but it still hasn't happened 150+ chapters in, and after reading other reviews because I didn't think I want to continue, I realized that no, they didn't change, so I decided not to continue reading. The translation is also a little clunky in places, and I find the translator's comments sprinkled throughout the chapters to be quite distracting and should really be left at the end of the chapter instead. <<less

10/10!! Amazing!

I honestly love this novel so much! The MC and ML each have their own deep personalities and a handful of flaws as well which I really loved. Unlike how in some books the MC or ML is perfect and unbeatable they rely on and believe in each other. They undergo personality developments and so does their relationship.

It's a bit of a slow burn at the beginning while the ML is trying to win over the MC (because he can be counted as straight but is kind of impotent)... more>> but around chapter 55 it's set off and their relationship moves fairly quickly. For those who like to read papapa scenes this book has quite a few spicy ones I was drooling over. There's lots of detail in them and their chemistry is just perfect!!

I've read some of the comments before reading the book and saw some negative ones that didn't really reflect the characters relationship and their deep bond. Some people wrote how the ML is kind of a stalker and doesn't listen to what the MC says and what he wants making it an unhealthy relationship. Mind you these people have not read the entire novel nor have they passed the 50 chapter mark in most cases. In reality the only 'stalker tendencies' the ML has is because he is a bodyguard and is trying to make sure the MC is a good person because he is the ML's sister's love intrest. Later it is because he wants to protect the MC always because he is his most special person. However both the MC and ML are upright people who respect each other and their views. Their is nothing that the ML ever forces the MC character to do in any point in the novel.

Just to confirm the ML does not force the MC into anything always respecting the MC and his decisions.

I sincerely suggest this book to anyone who likes bl with plot! The humour had me laughing outloud and their witty bantering just warmed my heart!! <<less

It's a bit unhealthy relationship but still Yuan Zong won me over with his determination & devotion. Up until the end, he let Xia Yao to be his bratty self around him. He is a bit territorial & obsessed but I can get that as his past is not the smoothest kind. There are cute scenes & scenes where I laughed until I cried.

Neg point: Both ML & MC needs to work on their communication. A lot of things happened when I just wanted to scream & say "Just talk"... more>> but I guess I expected this kind of situation so it didn't feel that much weird.

Overall, if you like a obsessed, domineering man pursuing another man, & their weird antics & lots of *ahem* scenes... it's a good read. <<less

Honestly, I am conflicted. There were instances where I thought, this is really bad, but I also couldn't stop reading because I loved Yuan Zhong's character and couldn't accept the fact that the author didn't add more justice to his character!

Let's start with the good things first. The characters were fun, there were a lot of comedy and secondhand embarrassment to keep you awake throughout the ordeal, also its not too cringey that you need to drop the book altogether. The translator worked very hard and she translated it so... more>> well. The conflicts in the novel were also resolved fairly quickly without dwelling too much into things, which is one of my favorite tropes as well. There were moments where the characters dropped their ego and reveal their true feelings and these moments always make me melt no matter how many times I re-read them. Although the novel has been clumsy in many aspects, the romance side of things, although awkward, it served its purpose to show how two guys with super huge egos can also fall in love with each other. And it's relieving to see this is not the novel that makes the ML fall in love 'at first sight' with the MC for no apparent reason. It takes more to fall in love and the leads do spend enough time with each other to make fondness and love believable for the readers. Both characters are super squishy inside although appear intimidating upfront.

Now on to the improvement areas. I found it hard to like XY to be honest. He is a crude and insensitive MC. I don't have problems with vulgar characters but this one really annoys me as he is just plain rude at times. It's hard to believe that someone who was raised in a good home, even joined the law enforcement could be so petty and childish. I couldn't relate XY's heroic moments during work vs his obnoxious behavior in his personal time. I just couldn't love the character no matter how much I tried. I guess the author didn't really try to explain him too well, which leads to my next point- Depth. Like a lot of novels that ranges on to 300-400 chapters, they may get boring and windy, but the main motive was depth! If you don't understand the character and how they come to be, how can you relate and forgive the gaps? Advance Bravely has so many gaps uncovered and even if I try to relate, I just found myself making a distorted face every time XY acts up. His friends? Honestly, I had to skip the chapters. I can't understand how the side characters are relevant. I don't feel the connections. XDY is always mad at XY for rejecting his advances but at the same time he chases after WSZ. PZ and LZZ are just ridiculous, I couldn't understand how these side people make an impact to the main character's story development. I feel like they were added just for the sake of prolonging the story. And XY being a grown man, being controlled by his parents like that was sickening for me and although I usually forgive inconvenient tropes like these, there wasn't enough depth in the story to help me dwell further.

In the end I still gave 4 stars, because despite the gaps, it kept me interested towards the end. And I even want to check out the live action drama! I guess the author did do something good there somehow. If you don't mind these gaps and just want to have some fun, there's no harm picking this up. <<less

Real unimpressionable. I've forgotten what MC's like (leading to the conclusion that he's as bland as white congee), and the ML stalked MC at the start. Like, no. What type of army leader (or something similar which gives him a valiant and honest reputation) climbs up the window of someone, who they aren't related to at all? And how did MC accept that bull?

So I saw the drama first. Yes there's Chinese drama of this novel. I didn't know that it had a novel. I loved the drama... it was romantic you could feel the chemistry between them... And three months later found out that it was a NOVEL and there are SMUT scenes?!!!? I would so watch the drama over and over again (just like I did with Mo Dao Zu shi (The untamed) which I will never get over it and I don't want to get over it.)... but anyways... more>> you must watch the drama version of "advance Bravely" you will love it... at least I did. Bro just watch it... <<less
