Roan ran away 20 years ago from his rural village in the aim of becoming a Great General. However, all he got 20 years later was just a handful of money and the lowly position of squad commander of the First Legion’s.

In the end, he became a cold corpse in the battlefield… but somehow, he came back in the past.

“Alright. This time, I won’t become a Great General but a Monarch.”

His previous life’s aim was becoming a Great General, but, he only became a spearman squad commander.

This time, his life’s aim is becoming the Monarch.

“Then I guess I’d become at least a General, right?”

Roan, who remembers 20 years of his future, now starts his unstoppable march.

There's quite a lot of baggage being dumped on this story and a couple of people complaining that "it has no plot" or "the sound effects are disturbing and annoying", (which leads to even more people shitting on the novel because of mob psychology,) but hey, I like it.

You can pretty much tell the plot from the title. MC goes back to the past and rewrites all his wrongs and regrets, while making new ones he never expected. He makes an effort to make more connections and gain more... more>> military might to become a monarch and rule over as much as he can.

Some think that the MC just keeps on getting things his way to the point where the story's stale, and that his companions, (Brian, Pierce, Austin, etc.,) are his b*tches that do his biddings like loyal dogs. But obviously he's not perfect and has people close to him die, and one of his ex supporters ended up betraying him because he didn't like the way he was being treated...*cough* Clayouevilbastard

And there's a lot of sound effects, I admit, but it doesn't get on my nerves like the majority of people. It makes me imagine the actual swooshes of arrows, clanging of swords, etc.

I enjoy the MC's calm, likeable, and sharp personality, but some wish for him to be cold and work on his own... (making me ponder about their reasoning because,) honestly, is there anyone who can truly rule without the support of others?

The reverse-in-time concept is used a lot, but the story itself isn't close to being cliche, giving me a refreshed feeling. I find entertainment in reading about how the MC progresses and his thought processes, not thinking the story's getting bland at all.

Not bad, not bad at all. 4/5 mates. <<less

If I ignore the "I'm a peasant but I'm smarter than a count of 60 yo" idea in this novel- it's quite an enjoyable kingdom building story with plenty of "mystery" type stuff.

However one point that really makes me annoyed (and I'm not sure whether it's the original author or the translator, honestly it would be really bad if it's the author's side) is the use of @@ "Ah..." XYZ person released a low exclamation. @@ This phrase really annoyed me. Not to the point where I would drop... more>> the novel but close to.

I mean there are synonyms for that. Errr/Mmmm/ he grunted/ he rolled his eyes/ he got surprised/ etc. so many ways to write instead of that "Ah...". Really something to improve upon.

ok, an edit, after reading ch 213

it does get better, after about ch 160. Translation is much better. Author still has inconsistencies, but it's ok.

this novel is like something smelly, like rotten fruits, autumn leaves, wet dog or smelly socks. We all know that smelly socks are not fun to smell, especially when they are not your own, but don't you just crave some smelly thing at times? That rotten, disgusting smell, but so intoxicating... well that's how I now see I am the Monarch novel. In some ways it's like smelly socks, you can hate it or love the smell, but it's there. Hard to resist. <<less

For a web novel is preatty good. I recently find that shorter novels tend to be better that ones that have thousands of chapters. It seems there are some good korean novels too. Judging but the quality of many other novels out there, and since it's not such a bad read, i'll just give it a 4.5 stars.

PROS:

    1. good and fluent writing style
    1. nice pace
    1. no useless japanese or chinese elements (fooling around teasing/ face slapping)
CONS:

    1. power system seems off : There are mana users but wars are fought mostly with regular folks. Until now even important people dont seem to have really strong mana user forces. I mean they have, but that does not really make any difference to the story, their importance so far has been lacking.
      Spoiler

Only once in the story (funny thing is that it happens very early) do we see a troop of a few hundred strong mana users. But they don't f*cking participate in the war and leave their regular people + few tens of novice mana users to fight a conquering war that is crucial for their kingdom survival. Even the defending side (MC's side) don't really use any proeminent mana user in the war, beside the MC.

      [collapse]
    1. shy attempt of a fantasy: There are monsters and it seems even other races, but the focus of the story is not on them as much as one would like. Several times I had the feeling that the story would be better without all these "fantasy game elements" since they are forced and they're so poorly inserted here and there.

This isn't necessarily a review, but rather just my opinion of the novel. I believe this is a very fun read. The chapters are quite long, and it is paced really nicely, but at times it does drag on for a long time. This is an army/kingdom building story. That is its main focus. There are quite a lot of side/supporting characters that get screen time which is quite nice. You get to see their different strengths that aid in the MC's army/kingdom building. The MC isn't necessarily op. There... more>> are many other characters that are much stronger than him, and he works his ass off training to get stronger. This story does involve a lot of politics and schemes from many different players across the board. We also tend to learn more about the nobility and royalty with each chapter, and you can really never see it coming. There are hints of romance, but only hints... but I'm sure it will develop further down the story, but most likely it will be late romance.

The one thing that definitely turns me off from this story is the terrible translation quality. Many times there are just broken phrases that don't make sense, especially the sound effects, they are just disturbing. If there was a better translator like Rainbow Turtle picking up this series, I know I would have an even better time reading it. No offence to the current translation team. I highly respect you guys taking your time to translate. It's just very frustrating at times while reading especially when I really enjoy this story. The release rate is also very random, and at times it might be on schedule.

Other than that, I highly recommend this novel. If you have a lot of patience, then this story will definitely be right up your alley. <<less

There are bad points and good points on this good novel.

For now let's start with the bad parts.

Bad points: so many unnecessary parts and scene, some parts also doesn't fit the situation and the antagonist are a bit s*upid and so much like those people who "bites more than they can chew"..

Good points: the way MC execute the things that happened in his past life are good (IMO) and author also didn't forgot to put the butterfly effect which will happen every time MC changes the part where things should... more>> happen.. And most of all, MC is morally virtuous person with too emotion, he defines a person who is naive but also not naive, he's also a bundle of emotion which is also good for the story so people would feel the story more with feelings.

All and all, this novel is good but not perfect which is not bad.

Though I wish this novel would turn into a perfect novel so I can enjoy it more.

And, the translators and editors also did a good job on it. They made me read it with satisfaction with their perfect (?) Translation.

Btw, I'm sorry if grammars are bad. I'm not really proficient with English. <<less

This is one of my favorite stories that I check daily for updates. It's an inside view in to military and the way politics has a play with it. The structure of the military is well explained as well as all the innovations that happen in the story. It has a really good story and a smart lead character that seems to always think 20 moves ahead.

Accidentally stumbled across my previous review and want to know what the hell I was thinking. I love this novel! Especially after seeing what was out there..... But I digress. This novel is great! The MC is likeable and a fairly interesting guy. The plot is also pretty damn interesting as well and flows smoothly from one battle to the next.

If I do have one complaint, it would be that the other characters don't get as much personality as I'd like. Aside from a very selective few (more like... more>> 2), they all pretty much serve as fodder to show how amazing the MC is. And I don't think this story needs that. We can already see he's great. <<less

Favourite novel. I love "MC building up things"- type of novels, so this is perfect for me. I mean... he is building an army now and will propably build a Kingdom later on. Oh and he is pretty strong himself. Read it^^

The translation is reeeally slow though, unfortunately... wish the translator would release one chapter a day.

The idea is not original, but the story is good. I like MCs who use their brain instead relying on their OP-ness. MC uses the knowledge from his future while the timeline change, he use his brain to adapt to the situation, brilliant. The romance, well let's say it's gonna be put on hold, I think, but the hope for ship to sail is very favorable and so far no sign of harem.

So this story is about a man who tries to fight for the people of his land rather than for his own riches. He starts off as a soldier, who has transmigrated from the future, and works to use his knowledge of the future to prevent the deaths of civilians while trying to allow for civilians to have a carefree life. His journey is a long one, accompanied by many adjutants and advisors who help him. Overall, I found this story a refreshing pace, and with a lot of turns... more>> and twists that you may not expect. Sadly it has been about a year since any updates, so I have resorted to reading machine-translated (Google Translate) raws, which I found by searching the novel's Korean name, "나는 군주다". A basic summary of what happens in the final chapters that are not yet translated:
Spoiler

Chapter 335 - Seems to be the same as translated chapter 334.

Chapter 336 - Beldrica ("Holy" Emperor) allies with Moyce Ron Estia (7th Prince), playing into Roan's hands.
In addition, Kalian tells the other dragons about why the seal broke, and tells them that Roan has access to Europas's lair. He also tells them he is requesting the help of the underworld (land of the dwarves) to try and reduce the casualties from the gate opening.

Chapter 337 - Starts off with the Byron kingdom's capital in chaos because the Pershion empire is making a rapid advance in their territory because all their forces are trying to attack Amaranth. However, the Man*s is leading the Pershion forces because the Black Legion is about to surface in the area according to Roan. Soon the Black Legion shows up, and Man*s leads his forces to attack them.
The nations on the continent realize their mistake as the Black Legion starts to ravage their countries, and try to recall their forces, only for news that the Amaranth Kingdom, Pershion Kingdom, Istel Kingdom, and Light Kingdom (Elves?) are fighting the Black Legion in enemy countries and providing food to the citizens unlike the kingdoms themselves.
The final mention in this chapter is that the Pincos (demons that escaped in chapter 331) were starting to climb down the Grain Mountains.

Chapter 338 - Starts off with the battle between the Lucia Empire and the Holy Legion, Beldrica pulls backs his forces and meets with Crew as a "favor", who then in correspondence with Moyce Ron Estia attacks the rear of the Holy Legion, causing chaos. Beldrica then learns that Roan is behind this plot, and is angered. At this timing, the Pincos arrive.

Chapter 339 - Starts off with Ian needing to make a snap decision to split the forces a bit to ensure the defense of Amaranth, only to have another report of "monsters" appearing at Poskein Lake. Ian plans to have the capital forces move out to subjugate the monsters, but then Kinis shows up and explains that the forces are on Amaranth's side and are mermaids.
Then it returns to the battle between the Lucia Empire and the Holy Legion, where the Pincos are wrecking havoc, it is learned that Beldrica, the cardinals, and the archbishops all abandoned the Holy Legion and went back to the Holy Palace. Then the demons start attacking the Holy Palace, so the Amaranth allies move to save the citizens. However, suddenly a young man appears and annihilates all the demons singlehandedly. The Holy Legion mistakes the young man for Devesis, but the young man is Roan.

Chapter 340 - Roan starts off by comforting the seventh prince's Estian forces, which leads to them becoming enthralled with Roan. The Holy Legion can't be bothered to attack the Roan, the leader of the enemy army as he had saved the Holy Palace, and because of the holy aura that Roan gave off. Roan and Io have a heartful reunion, Roan has to leave in the middle, but he brings with him to the Holy Palace the Holy Legion in a single teleportation.
Beldrica, the cardinals and the archbishops discuss how without them, there is no Holy Palace, so as long as they are safe, they can rebuild the Holy Palace and defeat the demons once the Holy Legion returns. Roan then appears saying that he is the lord of this place, which for him, "this place" was Middle earth and the world.

Chapter 341 - Roan confronts Beldrica, who states that the Paladins, Holy Legion soldiers and general priests don't mean much, it's him, the cardinals and the archbishops that matter. He reasons this because as long as they are alive, they can replenish the Holy Legion and priests as much as they want. Roan then reveals the Holy Legion has been in the room for quite some time and overheard the discussion. They are angered by what they heard, and Beldrica comments that Roan cannot kill him, as how will he win the hearts of the people on the continent if he is killed. Roan then sends the Paladins and Holy Legion away. Roan then proceeds to eliminate the Holy Palace castle is completely annihilated, leaving just the pedestal that Beldrica was sitting on, Roan then proceeds to leave, just as the Pincos arrive. Roan then commands them to kneel down using Flamdor's aura. Then Roan lets them run havoc on the Holy Palace, leading to Beldrica's demise. The news then spreads that Roan saved the Holy Legion and established a new sanctuary, which reassures the people of the continent after the Holy Palace fell.

Chapter 342 - Lunark is celebrating the cleansing of the world, whilst Golan (Gale?) is fighting a dark elf. Lunark prepares to wipe out the Pershion and Istel Kingdom forces, when the dragons who were guarding the gate of boundary show up and prevent their annihilation. The guardian dragons confront Lunark who proceeds to ask them to thank him because he is going to kill the Demon King, ending the demon conflict once the world has been cleansed. A hole opens up in the middle of the battlefield as Lunark is pondering why the momentum is not in his favor, out of which swarm the dwarves who cover the Black Legion.

Chapter 343 - Cardor, a top-level demon, meets with Latios, who requests the annihilation of middle earth. Cardor laughs and agrees, since that was his goal in the first place. Then Roan teleports in and punches Cardor, who flies to the side. Latios loathes that Roan seems to be ruining his plans again. Cardor proceeds to realize that Roan has the scent of multiple entities, one of which is a seemingly familiar demon. Roan answers Cardor's question that it is the scent of Flamdor. Cardor learns Roan is the only one that knows, and becomes confident that he can defeat Roan. Roan then proceeds to stop Cardor's fist and proceeds to one sidedly fight Cardor, not letting Cardor have a chance to recover. Roan also tells Latios to stay where he is, because once he is done with Cardor, Latios is next.

Chapter 344 - Begins with some exposition about why the dwarves disappeared because the dragons constantly kidnapped and imprisoned artisans. Lunark asks how Kalian managed to enlist their help, and Kalian responds he simply apologized. The dwarves and dragons proceed to try and strike Lunark down.
Story then cuts to Roan taking revenge for Flamdor on Cardor. Roan then provides exposition detailing that Travias joined up with Flamdor to fight againt the top level demons previously, but when they achieved victory, god Devesis and several dragons separated Travias, which led to Roan to gaining the powers of both later on. Roan then proceeds to kill Cardor. He starts to walk towards Latios, but feels a sensation that leads him to grab Latios and teleport to a familiar battleground.

Chapter 345 - Most of the crown prince of Estia's forces deserted because of the rumours that Roan's news was true, and as they fight the Black Legion, Moyce appears as the emperor with the emperor troops, causing the crown prince to be confused. Turns out Moyce is now the emperor of the Estian Empire. He was appointed due to a situation Roan caused, and since all the other princes were attacking Amaranth, only Moyce was available to be appointed as emperor. Moyce then using the underworld, led troops to war againt the Black Legion, Tallion Church and the demons.

Chapter 346 - The nations started to realize the Amaranth Kingdom was trying to fight against the real enemies, after the Amaranth Kingdom armies abandoned their posts and attacked the Black Legion instead of trying to continue the conflict. The Aimas Allied Powers proceed to splinter, which causes the Tallian Bridge to fall. It also is mentioned that Aily's mother was the previous Picsis of the elves, which is why she is subjugating the dark elves.
Next, it proceeds to where a dark pillar of light was appearing, the same place Roan teleported to, where Demon Lord Lucifer shows up. Demon Lord Lucifer proceeds to attack Lunark, and cuts off his wings, and fights the other dragons, removing a wing of another dragon before Roan shows up and attempts to stab Demon Lord Lucifer. He introduces himself as the lord of middle earth.

Chapter 347 - Roan hands Latios to the dragons, who is scrutinized as he was the cause of middle-earth's near collapse. Demon Lord Lucifer attempts to cut off Roan's arm, only for Roan to cut off Demon Lord Lucifer's arm instead. Demon Lord Lucifers proceeds to summon and consume demons to increase his power. Meanwhile the dragons proceed to annihilate Lunark while Demon Lord Lucifer is occupied. The only remains of Lunark that exist are his two wings.

Chapter 348 - Roan has been fighting Demon Lord Lucifer and having Demon Lord Lucifer summon demons to him so that the demons on the continent could be more easily controlled. Demon Lord Lucifer has ran through most of the demons and now summons some higher-level demons who unwillingly become sacrifices. Roan reveals that it is now Demon Lord Lucifer's turn to die, which Demon Lord Lucifer socffs at since as Crea's child, he is unable to be killed. However, Roan brings out the Tempestas, made of Astrum, the only thing that can kill the children of Crea. Demon Lord Lucifer still is nonchalant, as only those with divine power can use the God's Metal, Astrum, and Roan has been hiding the scent of his divine power during this confrontation. Tempestas is revealed to have been developed to leave the fate of Middle earth to the residents of Middle earth, the Astrum was given as a gift to the dragons, and Europas used it to make Tempestas. The gods and dragons had been anxious that humans' greed would destroy middle-earth. The first owner of Tempestas, Latios nearly destroyed the world, the second owner, Pierce made a decision that led to Roan, the current owner using it to kill Demon Lord Lucifer. Demon Lord Lucifer is dead now, and as such the world celebrated the lord of middle earth.
The wings of Lunark and the Tempestas were used to reseal the gate of boundary. Latios is sent to the demon realm. Roan then proceeds to clean out the remnants of the Holy Empire and Demon Realm.
There is then a scene of children play fighting with one of them playing the role of Roan who is correct on Roan's use of a spear and not a sword. They then chance upon some remnants of the Demon Realm, who goad the children, just as Roan appears, who then proceeds to slaughter the demons. The children ask who he is, to which he chokes, as he can finally say it, "I am the monarch".

This is one of the very first novel I read. I don't know whether it was because I was new to reading novels but this Novel pulled my interest completely. Right now I've read quite a few novels and still this one tops my chart. There are many reincarnation Novel I did try because of this one but not many came closer to this. Actually I was recommended by Google after looking for similar novels to slime datta ken. Need to say other than the reincarnation things nothing is similar... more>> also the hero he just time travels backs he doesn't transmigrate. But I loved each and every moment while reading the novel. To be Frank it's not the best one out here and it has its own plot holes and flaws with bad writing but what makes it unique is the journey of the hero. It doesn't deviate. He has one goal and he plans and executes everything to near perfection. He is not a genius like other novels MC where they takes on Every roles to themselves and shines in every damn thing like from farming to inventing a machine by themselves. No he knows he is not a genius so he forms a nation with many genius as it's backbone. He knows where and when to listen. He is not arrogant MC who slays every enemies. He is wise and honourable. And he doesn't have a f*cking harem. He loves only one woman and he is true to her. Even though the romance is not the main focus I did enjoy the moment. In whole I read and continued to read only because of the character journey of the main character. He is caring, doesn't hurt the innocent and always gives a choice for the enemies to surrender but also he is completely ruthless. Ho ho... The moment when he drags one of the idiot noble for not following his orders which leads to many deaths of the innocent, the punishment he gives will definitely give chills to readers.. one of most badass moment... The novel does gets slow after half but it's bearable and again it's takes its pace after few chapters. I recommend this to all if you're looking for a good novel with kingdom building attributes, good schems and wars with not over the top magical elements and mainly a likable non psychotic but a badass MC. <<less

A Korean WN set in a fantasy world, where the MC inexplicably gets a 2nd Chance in life. Not my first rodeo and it comes right out the gate with the usual issues. The MC Roan acts like he's smarter than everyone else, since he can just spoil upcoming events with his advantage. Using it to speedrun through personal developments and gain enough merits to rapidly promote through the army ranks, to inevitably become a monarch.

Yet even with how fast paced the story is, with an endless supply of conflict,... more>> the author takes his sweet time to introduce any sort of Kingdom Building. By the time it is introduced, Roan has built up such a solid intelligence network and military advantage that most tension is lost. Especially when all his adversaries seem to run the same /Script. Exe. Then the true final conflict of the Middle World occurs and I gradually lose the desire to continue, as it becomes near impossible to find any sort of translated ending. <<less

This was a very satisfying experience. It’s so nice to see how he went from a lowly spearman from a remote countryside to a monarch loved by his people with the strongest army base filled with loyal subordinates.

What I liked the most about this novel is that each arcs don’t drag out for chapters on end. We see the MC Roan slowly but surely getting closer and closer to being a monarch with each victories. The same goes for his character development. It’s satisfying to see how much he has... more>> grown both physically and mentally compared to his starting days.

Roan wasn’t born talented but he used the knowledge he gained during his 20 years of battle experiences wisely. He used these to both improve himself and save those he could not in his first life. Aware of himself, he never slacked off on his trainings and never became conceited. And although he took the “fated encounters” that others were supposed to have found in the future, he gave back equal rewards to them later on. He’s also not afraid to admit his lacking points and fills them by gathering the corresponding geniuses around him.

The side characters can sometimes be a bit one dimensional. I sometimes don’t understand why they reacted the way they did. But this isn’t always the case and it improved as the novel goes on. And the romance
Spoiler

I’m so glad this isn’t a harem. He ended up with the shadow princess/ elf queen Aily. Although it’s love at first sight, they have good chemistry between each other. Very cute interactions

Its been a year since I last saw this. Tbh at first I really thought this would be boring but then I find myself get interesting to it until I reach the end. It was fun and really worth of your time. The plot is interesting too, it also focused on its goal. The character development is also good, as for the schemes and plot twist, it makes the plot even more fascinating.

I'm trying, I really am, but there are two things that just keep annoying the heck out of me. First is just the way Korean web novels are usually written. It's like the author is transferring his actual thought train onto paper. It's not all how you would expect a written story to be like. What would normally be one sentence gets broken up into at least three awkward lines. It's not as bad as the Japanese transcript style, but it's close. Secondly, the translation is at most 7/10. The... more>> translator is probably not fluent in English. If the editor/proofreader did some work afterwards, it could easily be 8/10. Not to scorn the work done, as it's free to read, but I find it difficult to read it as it is, let alone enjoy. I realize I'm in the minority of people who get bothered by issues with spelling/grammar, sentence structure, word choice, etc.

Edit: made it to ch78 and dropped. It's not just the translation and the writing style that's bad, the story itself is greatly lacking. When the author needed MC to suddenly make a breakthrough in his mana technique, which has been given minimal focus until now and has seen minor progress, author just arranged a completely out of the blue new enemy who causes a military setback resulting in the deaths of some officers, causing the MC to "go super saiyan"... that's what did it for me. Completely random. The people who died aren't even close to MC, they're just acquaintances or colleagues. Heck, I don't think there are more than a couple of people actually close to the MC even now. I mean, the author hasn't exactly developed any relationships like that. Overall, I don't think it's going to get any better. Only worse. <<less

Recommended to lovers of LoTR-ish light-hearted reads. It is not perfect but is good. The MC is your typical reincarnated good hero that is always at the right time and right place to get the powerups and save his allies. I am even a bit disappointed how things go well with him, not that I want a lot of deaths for major characters, but just.. Like everyone got plot armors together with the MC. Lols.

Spoiler

Like how Semi was about to die during the war for the throne. Roan was still able to save him. Same case with Aily during the battle starting the great warring era, Roan teleported at the perfect timing. I would love the drama like when Gale and the rest of the Rose Troop got burned in front of Roan but yeah, plot armor is contagious in this novel.

[collapse]

The novel started out good specially on the war tactics and when he is still starting as low-class spearman, and I am all for a higher up defending subordinates. Roan is good and hardworking and smart enough to make use of his knowledge about the future, but I also love the other characters like Harrison, Pierce, specially Austin.

Spoiler

And Clay, the guy is such a waste, would have loved him as main villain.

[collapse]

There is a teeny tiny bit of romance, for those like me who don't like adventure novels mixed with romance, but it is super negligible so it did not bother me at all. Roan is a bit battle-freak, goal-focused and a one-woman man so yay, no harem!

It just gets boring and rushed nearing the end, the subordinates are getting forgotten and all but the world-building and mysteries unraveled all make up for it. So yeah, read it! <<less

I have very complex feelings regarding this series, but the objective outcome is that this series is Mango approved.

The following spoiler tag contains my opinions which don't effect the ratings of the story, but are rather regarding the translation.

Holy Moly! The translation is so inconsistent that I literally wanted to scream my brains out at one point! Make no mistake, I respect the time and efforts put by the team, but my experience of this novel was severely degraded by some pathetic mistakes. Overall, the translation is quite good. But in some clusters which are far too often present especially in the first 150 chapters and significant number of chapters after that as well, the most childish and amateurish translations are present. From the usage of words like 'amazingly' some 20 times in a chapter to the protagonist literally r*ping his lower lips with his teeth. Not to mention, the 'you b*stard thing insult.' Thankfully, towards the later half, the quality is better but this lack of quality must definitely be responsible for at least 20% of the negative reviews from people. Make no mistake, this translation is definitely high quality when compared to an mtl, but it is more frustrating to read due to the sudden and severe polars. And there is the poor hosting website as well, which takes eons to load on wifi. Eitherway, this is a rant which is not part of the review o the grading.

Firstly, this novel starts off very sluggishly raising many questions which are answered much later. The protagonist is pretty much an empty character, tbh. He has some aim regarding what a monarch should be, but no reasoning as to why he wants to be that. The skills which he develops, while due to his hardwork, are also excessively due to his cheats. This makes it hard to get behind him. Luckily, the side characters actually form a tight structure which ensure that they stay relevant and have some organic growth, which is a huge strength of this novel.

The protagonist, during the later parts of the series, gets incomprehensible strength upgrades which ruin the immersion of the reader. The female lead, who is a fairly interesting character, gets far too less screen presence. In addition, the major antagonists of the world (not of the continuing plot, but of the world itself) have such shoddily childish 'pure evil' reasoning behind what they do that it simply feels like a CG fightfest towards the end. This is the reason why this series gets a 4/5.

Make no mistake, this definitely has some huge positives! The strategy based battles are a delight, even when they are rushed. The development of the side characters, and the gradual change of some of them into antagonists, is a pure delight! The combat is not a major plus of this series, but it is not given too much importance as well. And even though the antagonists have very little dimensions, they are intelligent with their schemes and cheats.

So, read it for the wonderful cast of characters and the insane large-scale battles. If you are lucky, you might end up liking the idealistic protagonist who has no proper reason for his ideals. Mind you, there is some time travel in addition to second chance present in this novel, so at some point of time, plot holes and foreshadowings are nicely patched up.

A clean series worth 4/5 stars, and Mango approved. <<less

Its truly a shame seeing how a novel full of potential became so dull after 200+ chapters. During the first few arcs, it showed both creative plot and great execution along with a near-perfect translation. However, like most novels from similar genres, it quickly becomes cliche and boring. I would still recommend this for the fans of the reincarnated, weak-to-strong genres, but unfortunately, I'm gonna have to drop this at chapter 227.
