The Death Mage Who Doesn’t Want a Fourth Time

Amamiya Hiroto is unlucky. His life consisted of misfortune after misfortune, culminating in an unlucky death during an incident on a school boat trip, trying to save a girl he barely knew. After death, he met a god of reincarnation who requested that the hundred or so dead passengers—one of them being the girl he tried in vain to save—be reincarnated into another world.

Yet a series of unfortunate events forced Hiroto to reincarnate with even less luck than before, starting with nothing but a tremendous amount of Mana. His second life, far worse than his first, came to a cruel end.

However, upon meeting the god a second time, he was informed that there would be yet another reincarnation—one that had already been set in motion and could not be stopped. Not wanting Hiroto to live long, the god cursed him before he was reborn in the hopes that he would either die quickly or commit su*cide.

Hiroto was reborn once more as a half-Vampire, half-Dark Elf. A Dhampir. Not wanting a fourth life, he is determined to live this third life with the only things remaining from his previous lives—death-attribute magic and his enormous Mana pool.

This series thrives on dark humor and insanity, interspersed with random Japanese food episodes (though those tamper down a bit later) and women who want to jump the MC's bones. If you like a serious 'road to revenge' story this probably isn't for you.

If your ability to accept is quite wide though, this is good comedy.

Everyone got what they deserve, that's how a good story goes.

At the very least, the sonovabit*h god must "at the very least" got strip from his god position.

Let see if this novel's author is also a loser or not !

... more>> MC won't try to take revenge is another story, it doesn't mean god could goes unpunished, that's just like telling people: "You Can Do All The Worst Thing, Causing Harm To Other, As Long As You Have Enough Power, No One Can Do Anything To You"

Stories like that twisting people.

Let me get this straight, No One can be so forgiving. In fact, people reading novel like that never learn any shed forgiving, in contrast, it plant the seed of evil into people heart. Thus, tragedies without punishment, will most likely make this world more and more a bad place.

(Beside, most people read novel for entertainment not to learn forgiving s**t)

Long story short, let's wait and see if this is another "bad novel" which "try to hypnotize but actually twisting people"

PS: btw, the name of the sonovabit*h god is Rodcore as in "rotten to the core" <<less

I'll keep it simple. The story is amazing the MC doesn't have a clear personality since the way his first 2 likes went. The sotry is unpredictable at sometimes making it more fun to read. My only problem with it is that it is slow sometimes by going into too much detail about stuff irrelevant to the story such as how to make food (if you like that them it's 5/5) so I gave it 4/5.

Depending on how the story goes even if it's a bit slow sometimes I'll change... more>> it to 5/5 <<less

This a pretty fun read. Its fun seeing the undead familiars evolve and how the threats are usually nonhuman. With that said, I'm a little worried about the direction of the series. I've only read up to the translated chapters but the main character is starting to rely on his familiars less and less and take things into his own hands, becoming the classic jack of all trades MC. I hate that. I liked how he had to rely on death magic. Martial arts master, carpenter, alchemist, etc. If you... more>> take away his reliance on death magic he becomes way too generic. The only other thing that isn't a nitpick is the overuse of Golems. Golems are ridiculous in these types of stories and they're just way too multipurpose. It'd be one thing if Golems were used only for combat but of course not. Even the decision to have Golems fall under the category of death magic and not life magic is questionable at best.

It's still enjoyable for the most part. No drama, no s*aves, only a slight mention of japanese bathouses, and the plot moves quick enough. <<less

It takes a long time for this novel to become good at dealing with tropes, character development, and so on. Unfortunately, it took too long in my opinion. Apart from the boredom of MC doing the same things over and over, it's quite okay, 3.8/5

Boring as hell. Saw the huge rating and the LN art was done by my favorite artist so I tried to keep up, but it was nothing but sleep inducing.

So many characters are introduced with barely any substance to them that I stopped caring at the 5th one or so.

Every girl belongs to this shota harem. Everyone lives happily, even his mother who was r*ped, burned, then brought back to life as a ghost.

Even ignoring the fact that the story began with the promise of revenge and action, it was... more>> really just some slow slice of life thing where the MC builds his own city, makes his own food. In a boring way. The author really tried to make the world vast, but it lacks depth.

There is nothing memorable about the MC. Save for the fact that he uses, well, Death magic. <<less

OK I'm writting this out of despise for the ones judging it after not even reading more than 2 or 3 volumes. Ok so here we go. BEWARE!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!

The positives:

The story is great. The author will constantly add and/or develop new consepts intot he story such as the guider bit and the thing about he creating new bodies for himself more later on.

... more>> The protagonist has a nice range of abilities and the author makes everything he does sound feaseble.

He is pretty much ruthless (which for me isn't necessarily a positive) but has a very large acceptable range before something causes him to lash out. He is definitely not a goodie two shoes that kills innocent people simply because they are somehow involved in something that harmed him or because they were on the wrong place at the wrong time. Like how some people stated above the people on the city did enjoy burning his mother. But later on both the MC and his mother say they are not mad because these people on their perspective were doing the right thing, they shouldn't be blamed or punished for being educated since birth to act like that and on top of that they were obligated by law to act like that. So MC still does punishes them a bit.

The novel has a nice pace (though on the slower side) but you can read it when you are bored and take long breaks from it no problem.

The MC does need to struggle to get stronger and even though he is OP and has a cheat he does not just kill everyone outright. He is actually much weaker than many of his allies in many areas so they don't feel like just decorative piecesto indicate how much stronger the MC is than them. In fact MC constantly ahs to think of ways to strnghten them in order to not be killed

The Negatives:

Yeah yeah what a surprise the story has flaws. Let us start shall we?

Character count: Oh my dear got there are so many characters.I kid you not I didn't read it for about two weeks and all the names I could remmeber were the some right out of the beginning of the novel. SO many characters are presented around the midway part it just feels pointlesss even because they are developed on the chapter they are presented and mostly forgotten.

ret*rded development: If you don't like development of things the protagonist won't use just to flaunt how amazing he is or even at a try on the comical at how amazing he is then this is going to annoy you quite a bit. Things like a race of his companions suddenly discovering a new Job all of a sudden because they were exposed to his mana or ate his food or whatever happen here and there and then are ignored. My guess is they're filler but still completely braks the flow with the protagonist doing soemthing really interesting and instead focus on a random thing with no relevance. I'll argue that this does work to stablish the story further and feel like the characters don't depend on the MC to matter on the enviroment around them but this story might go too far with it.

Carefreeness: This is honestly my biggest concent/problem in the novel. The author will slowly build up a sence od weight and respect on the reader's mind, Leading you to slowly respect and care for the world and characters but after volume 8 he stars to slowly stop giving a f*ck. He creates high as f*ck stakes and makes you think these thinga rea important but then he just doesn't give a f*ck. Oh there's a continent covered in demons and dungeons running rampart? We are introduced to it like it's a big deal? There's a dangerous character that might start a war? Nah, the mosnters/dungeons are easy as f*ck to hold back because they are fkn strong and some of them f*cked and created a new race also very fkn strong, tense situation with a character than can enter on war with them? Nah they'll resolve the problem with a casual ass chat.

The MC releases the goddes of life from imprisonment and drops that on the other gods on a casual ass conversation like they she just returned form a trip. The author seems to have a trauma and's afraid to put any tension on anything that isn't related to the direct enemy they have.

The harem: Over 50 girls. Including a woman without any limbs, probably the goddes that considers him her son, a mantis chick, a half octopus. And it's just a straight up fancervce for the c*nts that like this kinda shit. The author keeps on making jokes about how the girls will eventually enter his harem but with tthe seriousness of the situations the story is in it's not only not funny it's annoying.

That's it. Good story but if you want something more serious this ain't it. I wrote much more about the negatives than the positives but I mean I almost read all of it so you tell me if I thought it's good <<less

This is definitely one of the good isekais, not gonna deny that. The story is, although a bit more slowpaced than other, more mindless, high action, instant gratification popular ones, I do like this style more. I could actually argue, despite it's abysmal release rate, that it could have been one of my favorite isekais I ever read.

But. I don't know what's with japanese writing about their food as if it's the second coming of Jesus, or whatnot, but damn, way to ruin a decent novel with useless unpleasant filler.... more>> While the japs must be wetting themselves every time they hear or read the words miso, or soy sauce, I've personally been a weeb for quite a while now, and I'm self considering myself quite a foodie as well, but after so much time, seeing, or worse, reading half a chapters worth, or more, where it only talks about food, to put it bluntly its like a non masochist doing cbp. Never tried it myself personally, but I imagine, for a "non-initiated" it would feel uncomfortable at best, and unbearably painful, akin to torture, at worst. And that's what I feel after seeing soba, miso, ramen and the rest of them being deified again and again and again like some sort of divine propaganda.

So, after this rant, if reading about food development again and again, as a filler, gives you an aneurysm, the good parts in it..I don't think they are worth putting up with this torture for. <<less

What makes this novel unique is the complexity between the 2nd and 3rd world but The conclusion of the 2nd world solve pretty easy and really underwhelming. After the long ride of 360 chapters, this conclusion kinda disappoints me and I felt I got baited by the revenge tag.

The strongest point about this novel is world-building in this novel is very detailed. There's a lot of race and God later you may feel it's too many details. MC become super OP later so, that curse barely made an effect. A... more>> romance moment does not exist. The fight scene is not really great cause He's a mage so He just shooting power and using OP gadgets like Devil king fragments. <<less

Well, this is my first time writing a review, so read it with a grain of salt.

You know this novel or web novel or whatever was quite thrilling at first, like the psycho MC who just want to punch the god at first, and like kill everything within sight once he is reincarnated or so the first three chapter goes. Well, this much is clear to anyone who read like 3 or 4 chapters, so let's get to the main reason I gave it four stars.

Now, here are some spoilers... more>> that may or may not be spoilers. so, read it with your own interest.

Spoiler

the starting was fu*king good, yes the starting was like the beginning of the slaughterhouse. But the author just gives me a flowery MC who is insane and is childish. It's like the MC doesn't mind killing everything within sight but has a great deal of self-control and everyone just want to stop the MC so he just doesn't go overboard but like he is insane so there is no healing it once he is out of control he is like a child who likes to throw a tantrum but thinks of himself as a rational being, and he has like a ton of complex. like mother complex, luxury complex, and blh I don't remember everything but he's has like 10+. I don't know to this chapter how many complexes he has gathered. but, one of the greatest good or bad complex or whatever is his ability to imagine the scenario to make the plan as full proof as possible, he likes to discuss everything with everyone for an opinion.

In short, he is like a................

But first, I know its kinda hard to read cause I am jumping left and right the whole time, but the next one is short

So in my opinion, he was going on the insane route without compassion and love for the weak cause you know he would not have survived without Vida's help. The main course for his happy life is mainly death attribute charm, for me that is the main cause, I don't know for everyone but without death attribute charm he couldn't have stopped Darcia from going and interacting with everyone who he met and created without causing any conversation problem, because he is a loner. So, from the author point of view or the character described in the WN, or I can't say for anyone, he is where he's because of his compassion for the weak and helping them a little (but for the character his help is like stopping an avalanche with a single punch so everyone sees him as a deity for every little help he gives them) and cause he helps them a little (from his point of view) everyone is indebted to him and walks his path of darkness (Dark Dream Deamon Creation Path).

A little off-topic but to me or for me to describe the MC as to how I see him read this far without dropping this insane Slice of life kinda novel is..........

  • The MC is insane but doesn't want to admit it, but he knows he is insane.
  • The MC is childish but he doesn't know it himself.
  • The MC thinks of himself as a rational being or tries to be, but his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd priority is emotion.
  • The MC is a super protective kind and goes insane if anything happens to his companions.
  • The MC has a grotesque creature kinda feel and is super repulsive but he simply doesn't mind.
  • He has many complex but leave that to those who read till here.
  • He is lucky many times and unlucky sometimes, I don't know how much luck he has left but the lives is good to him, as lives full of sh*t.
  • The main reason for his compassion for the weak is to maintain his sanity or let's say his humanity, cause he is far from a normal human.
  • He is far from normal cause even evil gods or even normal gods fear him.

So, he thinks of himself as normal and does everything he considers as normal (like helping a little), and does everything for his companions or new residents (like resurrecting the dead as undead). And helped everyone he sees in trouble.

So, the MC is normal (not normal at all), thinks of himself as normal (but everything he does is abnormal), and lives a normal life (that is far from normal as everything is...... [well think of it yourself])

It is not in the tag but think of the genre as an abnormally fu*ked up Slice of life and you will be able to read it till here.

The last thing is that it's not like I am criticizing the author, it's just so contradictory (at least for me). Well, not everyone thought's like me so, not understanding what I mean by this review is totally normal (cause I have just written my thought as it is), it's not like I am a writer or anything like that.

[collapse]

How I read this far while keeping my sanity. The to this is to consider the MC as a three-year-old child who is insane, considers himself as normal (but not normal at all), likes to listen to everyone (but everyone is influenced by him in the end. So the final decision is his), likes everything (even grotesque creature), is loved by everyone (because of death attribute charm), is compassionate to everyone but not to his enemy, and lives a very simple life (not simple at all). You just have to keep a contradictory thought and everything will be fine.

OR

It is not in the tag but think of the genre as an abnormally fu*ked up Slice of life and you will be able to read it till here.

The last thing is that it's not like I am criticizing the author, it's just so contradictory (at least for me). <<less

So much good stuff and the translation is great. However the translator has a full time job and that can be seen easily in the fact it took half a year to do one arc. The story itself lacks tension, home boy Van is just to OP. Plus the harem building is a bit off putting because you know he's still in a child's body. Also I wouldn't be surprised if his mom ends up in there. She has a new body so the aren't blood related anymore add that... more>> to his previous lives and you can already feel the bullsh*t reasoning. Just caught up again and it has only gotten worse. This is a really good story, one of my favorite light novels even, but I'm rating this 4 stars instead of 5 because of the job-choosing skills of the MC and other r*tarded things he does that dont make sense. That's a very average novel in the genre

The MC don't really have motivation or anything, all the side characters are attached too easily.

Spoiler

there is literally a skill that let anyone dead instantly view the MC as a god

No depth at all, enemies easily forgiven or turned into friends

All in all, I don't really recommend ir, Just read it if you have a lot of time, the chapters are hugee and exhausting. You are new? Don't waste your time

For now, I shall rate it 4.

The beginning is nice, it kind of pulled me into reading more because of his unfortunate events, but as soon as the tension is gone, the story quickly became a chore to read. if you like world building with extra steps, then you will like this novel.

for me it's like this:

... more>> 3/4 = slice of life, the every little bit of information, small talk, narration of events

1/4 = the exciting part, which is you know, showing off his OP-ness, his interaction with the enemies.

overall, this is like the marketing scheme where they will show you awesome stuff at first so that you will read and at some point you will wonder, when will the exciting part happen? why did the exciting part end so fast?

i like world building novels, but im just a bit disappointed because at first I thought the MC will be this power hungry beast and so he will have his revenge to this god and will be using his 3rd life to the fullest so that no one can kill him, but his goal changed to town building and foods... why? I like it how he's getting a good life now and will do everything to protect it, but it still bugs me why he's so carefree. it's like his years in origin didnt even exist. <<less

It is great and all the arc are fleshed out and nice, even the one I see as the worst which is the [Name] Duchy arc is still pretty decent. Although I have to say that the MC spoils his mom too much which didn't allow a tasty revenge to happen, we still get the later chapters that give us a nice and fleshed out story with an enjoyable and insane protagonist (?).

Well, it’s kind of boring, but the thing about the “harem” is quite clear to me from the start, the fact that the author drags the MC in as an infant with no significant time skips makes it clear that (at least with the ones from the beginning) there wouldn’t be romance (so nothing too absurd about the situation with his supposed love interests, he’s just solving the problem of birth rate of that race helping the women to have kids (just not his kids, as he is a kid... more>> himself, lol)).

It gives me the vibes of slice of life, with the tipical isekai OP MC, but edgy and forcing itself to try (and I say that cause I felt nothing) to be a little dramatic and bizarre. So... an edgy Death March + an Mushoku Tensei without romance? Lol.

PS: no hard feelings, as you can see I only read 51 chapter and I see the world through my own lenses, so feel free to get your taste of it, it’s not really bad. <<less

This novel would be perfect if not for a single problem, the protagonist in theory should be a 45-year-old person who has suffered the most cruel tortures of his 2 previous lives, so he should have at least a general idea of what happens through a minimum of logical thinking. But apparently he cannot realize that he is tremendously strong and that he can literally do what he wants to whoever he wants. It may be that he did not realize it at the beginning of the story because he... more>> has yet to understand its limits, but having reached chapter 132 it is completely unacceptable that he considers a level 7 ogre a fearsome enemy when there are 100 chapters that he kills gods as if nothing had happened. And all his concerns stem from the fact that he doesn't realize he's op. It is an interesting thing for the first part but in the long run it becomes really unnerving. And the funny thing is that everyone knows how op it is except him, so I think the author does it on purpose, but I really hope that going forward this thing changes because it doesn't really make any sense. <<less

*** Two conversations between MC and his women ***

chapter 36

And above all, men needed to be strong.

「I heard from Kachia that wives raise not only their children, but their husbands as well. Rest assured, Van. I'm going to raise you well~♪」 (Basdia)

「... Y-yay... 」 (Vandalieu)

chapter 38

「It seems that this is how Ghoul Amazonesses are. Maybe because of these patterns, I've gained resistance to magic. I don't know if they have any other effect, but magic, huh... I'll think about it after I have a child.」 (Basdia)

「Ah, that reminds me, how is the Magic Item? It should increase the chance of a successful pregnancy when worn.」 (Vandalieu)

The three-year-old boy casually changed the topic of conversation to baby-making. It seemed that the problem of Ghoul fertility would be solved with the distribution of these Magic Items, but it was true that they couldn't become careless yet... If things went too well and too many children were born, they might face problems as there were no nurseries here, unlike on Earth.

Vandalieu asked the question with this in mind, but Basdia turned pale.

「It isn't going well. Both my partner and I have been wearing the Magic Items, but... 」 (Basdia)

It seemed that they were simply not having an effect.

The Magic Items only made the egg cells and sperm survive about as long as those of humans, giving Ghouls the same chance of becoming pregnant as humans, but that didn't mean that they guaranteed pregnancy.

Considering that, it wasn't strange for her to still not be pregnant yet. Even healthy human couples sometimes took some time to conceive.

First off I'll say the MC is bullied and never really gets justice from the ones who wrong him unless it's someone that immediately wrongs him. He's a little too nice but I still hate him for how forgiving he is and almost all the woman who are with him (or will be by chapter 500-600's he might grow up to be capable of having relations with him) have been r*ped or have tons of partners. The fake hero who stole everything from him lives a pretty good life... more>> or life's, and this is just speculation but I think he hooks up with the fake hero's daughter and the girl the fake hero keeps lying too even though he knows she is only with him because of the misunderstanding that he saved her but at this point she would stay with him regardless of the lies in the beginning because she is seriously just plain s*upid and just follows his lead unless shes mentally controlled by the other Bravers. In which she stands against his opinions.

A lot of it doesn't make sense and you just feel more frustrated then fell good. Not only that, the gods there act just as human as our gods do which is also frustrating. I wouldn't recommend it but it's not a terrible read but just plan to be unsatisfied. Not only that but you can't feel justified in thinking this because he can just resurrect and create new body's for anyone close to him that dies. I mean his mother dies but she never leaves him so how can he really feel anger if they aren't dead? But I would regardless of this fact, because if he didn't have this power they would have died

What I would do differently would be to kill all cheat characters because they don't belong there in the first place with super powers and you know they will be reincarnated in the end so there is not harm in killing anyone even if they only slightly wronged you.... It's pointless to point out the flaws, I would have to write a few pages which I don't care to but if you want to feel unfulfilled this is perfect for you. It confuses your emotions unless you're are just for justice or just for revenge. This type of story I went with some revenge at least the fake hero should have some hardship but it's perfect for him which is frustrating with how much hardship the MC had to go through. A little poetic justice is nice. <<less
