I read up until the new world arc so it is quite a bit more than a thousand.
This rating is only in regards to other novels of the same genre, else it would not even deserve one star.

This novel is great for the most part I read till now, BUT the MC is like the dumpest person ever sometimes, like he: he has strong enemys so obviously he has the go around high-key, or he has his two knowledgeable friends but more often then not he just ignores the possibility to ask them and drives into danger head on that could have been avoided.

If I had known the MC is like this before I startet this novel, I would never have startet it in the first place.... more>> I only continue to read it cause I want to know how the story progesses. I know want to strangle the MC to death more often than I enjoy the novel.

SO DONT READ THIS NOVEL. <<less

The story is good but there are way too many side arcs till you get to the story, and stuff keeps repeating after chapter 300 or something.

It probably deserves 3 stars at most but the MC is ruthless~ish and it has a lot of killing, prior to this i've read novels with r/whiteknight MCs so i'll give it a 4 star.

If you haven't read other novels, or you just enjoy novels where the MC either runs, lvls up and kills his enemies, or just kills, then you'll have fun.

Novel is very good in some parts, however the harem is half good half bad.

Mainly because the princess Xue, despite having no skill whatsoever is given a not existing skill to become a smart girl who leads the mercenaries, then comes his cousin, Qian, who also despite being so weak, MC spent many heavenly resources to progress her cultivation, and still in the end she is just like P. Xue.

Those two, I hate. However I rate it a 4, 7 Rating.

The origin story started out good and some of the arcs allowed the MC to move into reset settings but there are times were the story diverges too much into side-characters especially when MC is building his group. Luckily the story picks up later but I am not happy knowing that we will eventually return to mercenary group building because that content is extremely lame.

So far the story is rather good.

The MC tends to fall in many hazardous situations, leading to establishing more and more enemies. The MC is ruthless, smart and tends to make use of his connections.

The romance is extremely slow and almost non-existing given that the MC is a cultivation nut, who is completely focused on increasing his strength.

The battles tend to be interesting, but not too visually descriptive.

Its kinda funny reading these reviews of others. Some of them make their judgment based on the chapters they've read so far. There are over 1500+ chapters and ongoing and these genius readers already making the conclusion that this going from good to worse. Yet they have not even gotten to at least more than a quarter of the chapters. Having read to c465 so far, I expect the story to get more interesting and enjoyable. I thought from the beginning the story was going to be pathetic but am... more>> glad I didnt give up. This story is too awesome. <<less

It is a good novel to pass time, but it has quite a few storyline and character flaws which is why I gave it a 3/5.

The mc's talent and fighting skill is very niubi like many mainstream xianxias, especially his azure violet power thingy, but whenever he fights, someone will say: "What a fast sword!" or "How did he damage my saint weapon!?!?*coughs blood while flying backwards*. I dislike op mc's, he needs to get his ass handed to him more often. Furthermore because of his opness the fighting scenes are relatively quick.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I really hate the mc's temper, he massacred a whole sect full of young people just because of one douche, and he has no self control, wasn't he an expert in his past life? Geez learn modesty, don't always get into fights. Like when c*cky people ordered him to leave the hostel, just frickin leave, its not a big deal, because he was a heaven saint master at this time, he could have just flown to the frickin palace, the city lord would have given him some respect and given him a room for a night.

I do not understand how some people consider self-defense "senseless killing." Most Xuanhuan, Xianxia, Wuxia novels are established where the strong are allowed to kill the weak with no repercussions. Most Chinese novels have sects, clans, etc, as prideful and arrogant. If they are after your life, defeating them will not stop them. Therefore, Jian Chen needs to remove his enemies completely. It was also one of Sun Tzu's laws, and the MC happens to be following that law. Edit: I will agree with some reviews that the story has... more>> focused on the MC being chased by enemies several different times. Also, he seems to have forgotten to cultivate to become stronger after several chapters.

Edit 2: I am done with the story, the MC makes questionable decisions. For example, he decides to leave the girl that had his back before he became strong and popular and chooses a girl that wanted to have someone castrate MC. <<less

love this book. everyones going on about how MC doesnt stick to his goals, and seems to get side tracked... what freaking goals? his only goals are to get stronger and live a life of adventure/wandering like how he did in his past world. He wants to get stronger so he can travel easier and return to his clan. later to save his clan.

Spoiler

to what CaptainToast says that he was at the peak of his last world, but his last world everyone was weaker then this world. jian chen has said multiple times that cultivation in this world is stronger then his past. also he isnt over 20 yet. because he trains in the azulet sword law (or whatever) his appearance was of a 20 yr old when he was 15/16. he left to travel when he was 16... it has been at most 19 years since then. Also he still uses swords when he fights, now that he lost his saint weapon he just needs to strengthen his body so that he can use the fused azure/violet swords.

to what readingdigestRating he still uses swords when he fights, now that he lost his saint weapon he just needs to strengthen his body so that he can use the fused azure/violet swords. also yes he tdid turn into an avatar like being, just stronger, since he can use all the elements.. light, darkness, wind, fire, water, air, chaotic... and probably more.. as to his hair and eyebrows, they will grow back lol... hes lost his eyebrows a couple times if I rememebr correctly, and his hair as been cut like 5 times, still grows back :P

Like most long Xianxia novels that are translated (translators tend to pick good novels), the authors improve as the story progresses. There is a boundary in most of these novels, once you get through it, you actually start enjoying the story. In this novel it's around chapter 210 or so. The good thing is, you can skip chapters 130-190, and you would have almost no plot holes... :D [I actually got this far cos I had nothing else to read lol, but I was not disappointed after reading chapters 200-399]

I'm usually very relaxed when it comes to standards (as long as the writing is at a readable level), but this story just kinda irritates me. It had such great potential, but the author just has the MC f*ck around for pretty much the entire story so far. He never really does anything.
After around 200 chapters I just gave up on it getting better.

What really bugs me about this story more than pretty much anything else in it is how weak the MC is. In his past life, he... more>> was one of the strongest beings in his world by the age of 20. In this world, he's already past that, and he still sucks balls compared to the average fighter in the world. It makes no goddamn sense.

Unless you have nothing but time on your hands, and can wait through hundreds of chapters of what essentially amounts to nothing but fluff, I'd recommended staying away from this story. <<less

A lot of folks complaining about how the MC tends to do totally contradictory stuff... Well if you've played D&D that's pretty much the definition of "Chaotic"! CSG does exactly what CSG feels like doing, and what he feels like tomorrow has little relation to what he does today. Think of this WN was the chronicles of an overpowered Chaotic Neutral D&D character and it's not so bad.

Still, I do agree it does get kinda repetitive, so 3/5

I have read up to chapter 273. This novel is really repetitive. A large number of people chase after the MC and he escapes. That just about sums up the entire plot of this novel. If you like action and can get past this plot its worth a read. As of chapter 273 I would rate it at 3.5/5.

It is not harem. I will look for another harem, mature light novel. I got deceived by the genre. The story got many plot holes, most mercenaries hunt for magical beasts everyday, imagine those magical beasts have not yet go extinct. Their death rate is greater than reproduction. The MC came from other world, used the herbs to disguise himself, does that mean his previous world have the same environment to his present? But at the start of the story, it told that the two worlds are different. The MC... more>> just massacred inside the City, but the City's military do nothing about it. Are those people just display? So if someone is strong, he can just r*pe, massacre anyone. In some chapters, they put magical cores/items in a caravan when they have spatial ring, why didnt they think to put the item on their ring? They attract greed, showing-off the items on the caravan. When the MC stole the core/items from those caravans, he just casually put all the items on his ring. <<less

Review of Ch.190.

Standard xianxia, written with a bit more quality than other lesser-rated ones. Everything is standard, functional, gets the story moving. MC is cautious and ruthless, friendly to those who are frank and honest. The only thing that makes this story stand out from other titles is the combat. Instead of people floating around in the sky exchanging profound moves that split the heavens and cleave the mountains (though it might happen eventually), you have battles happening on a much smaller and faster scale. Imagine those kungfu films where... more>> you have people battling each other exchanging weapon strikes while running in the streets and jumping around rooftops, like watching the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” but sped up.

The focal point of the story is the MC and only the MC. Side characters appear and disappear within an arc, time passes without any mention of what is happening beyond the MC. Power level rankings seem meaningless because the MC can defeat higher rankers (as in most stories), only to face the exact same scenario once he has broken through. Like most similar titles, there are entire chapters (sometimes two in a row) with nothing but the MC’s powering up process. Dialogue is limited to the usual tropes, and many events are quite repetitive: there are multiple instances of the MC being interrupted while eating alone, for example. There isn’t a general plot except the mystery of his maternal lineage, no idea as to the MC’s end goal except to get stronger, and no real antagonists have revealed themselves yet after 190 chapters. Many characters barely have a line or two of descriptions, letting the reader know “this character’s going to die soon”.

There is no hint of long-term relationships of worthwhile note, even his siblings merely exist as plot devices for the MC to showcase himself.

Other than the combat, there is nothing thus far that makes the story memorable if you read a lot of xianxia. But if you’re a newcomer looking to sink time into something, this is a decent pick. It’s a fully functional, decently written xianxia that focuses on the protagonist. And killing via slashing/piercing the throat. Always the throat. <<less

Started out pretty slow but I think the last about hundred maybe 200 chapters have been much better than the beginning things are starting to really get going

MC is somewhat op because of his great amount of experience among a few other things but I don't feel like it's luck the author did a very good job with making it seem like the MC's actual ability which makes the story flow much better than some other Xianxia or wuxia novels with there god like luck

So.., this novel had a great start, a great MC and was really interesting for the first 100 chapters.
But then the story turned into MGA :o.
Countless senseless killing, so many chapters where the only thing that happens is
- MC finds a treasure -> Someone sees it -> Tries to steal it -> Dies
Repeat that X 50 and you got Chaotic Sword God

Amazing novel a slow one but amazing nonetheless Ruthless/Bad Ass MC who doesn’t give a sh*t who he pisses of / or kills as long as they don’t provoke him and a very well paced story considering this novel has 1, 6k chapters and is ongoing so ye for some it will look slow and it is slow but better to be slow with a good story than some sh*t like MGA who repeats its entire story every 200-300 chapters all over again. My personal rating will be a 5/5... more>> but this novel is not perfect so around 3.5-4/5 will be very justified anything less is either not your type of novel or your just some idiot rating it low just coz you don’t want it to have more rating than the novel you like or some sh*t like that. Anyone with a brain can see that this novel dose not deserve to be rated lower than 3 trust me I have read novels that are lower than 3 and this is not it. <<less

I kinda want the story to go back to his family and get revenge and so on. From the way the story is going, he has gone on a complete tangent to this, deciding to make the biggest mercenary company ever...
