I found it to be a very enjoyable read (till the 400s chapters), I recomend it to mostly male audiences that like evolution mechanics or deatch march, also sorry for the orthographic mistakes not my native lenguage, for a more in depth review scroll down.

Do not apply real/social/human logic to the MC he is a fictional character, he is somewhat smart, no a lelouch but he holds its own, and respects his harem while triying to be good to them, he makes somewhat rationall choices, but his rason de entre... more>> is to "enjoy" be it fights, s*x or turism, he is more forcefull on this than satou from death march but thats not necesarily a bad thing, as its refreshing to have a MC that is more... I guees "Real" (can you say that if you were in his position you would do things differently, and he does says in the begining that he will live his second life unrestrained by his human logic acepting his especies has changed) though his plot armor is sickeningly thick, as it seem to be the case for most of the web or light novels.

There is no p*rn or at least unwilling s*x, and its only mentioned.
Spoiler

There is a controversial decision he takes respecting both elves and women from an attacking army I tried to just accept it as logical desicion but still... it just crashes against modern thinking in my society

[collapse]
Chapters are short but there are like 400 (mostly machine translated whit some fan editing here and there) in the wiki.

The evolution mecanic holds very well, but by the later chapters (400s) is just ridiculous, even he cant waste time caring which path his evolution goes as he is already overpowered to hell, back and then some
Spoiler

the MC can solo a gigantic (I do mean gigantic) dragon, even though he and his parters barely kill 6 small ones just a few seconds before.

[collapse]
The problem here its that there are no negative evolutions and the party gets one like every 80 chapters, whith the later ones getting HUGE power (Jumps?, Sorry not my native lenguage) Spikes.

I really like the eat other monsters to get their ability mechanic he has as it works for trancending his limitations or more like the ones from his species.
Spoiler

A ESP power he had in his previous life and got transfered whit him, this later one gets complemented whit a compound ability that lets him create overpewered/uber/godly skills

[collapse]

My problem is whit the later chapters, he is broken, almost god status, by that point it he can overpower everithing he mets and its invulnerable, so its not engaging anymore, where can he go to now?, this should not have happened so fast, as the chapter mean each a day most projects are rushed (as in complete in 3 days)

Overall a very good novel, for me at least, whit the obvious faults most seem to have, that losses some of it steam by the later chapters. <<less

Do not listen to the other reviews when talking about the MC. They fail to realize he isn’t human anymore.... it is dumb to think of him with human standards. He is a monster and he’s better than the other monsters because at least he has intelligence. Overall the story starts of entertaining but unfortunate the translations get pretty bad toward volumes 7/8. Classic power leveling and becoming more than Op. The s*x scenes aren’t really detailed or anything but he does have a harem that are treated as his... more>> wives basically. Sometimes the descriptions take too long and there is too much information to process but you can gloss over most of it. You don’t need to know all of his skills because in the end it won’t matter to the reader. I’d recommend reading it if you like growth stories which has some world building <<less

It's interesting at first. The protagonist is a jerk, but he isn't irredeemably so, and if nothing else, it's a nice change of pace from the goody two shoes protagonist isekai stories normally have. However, at some point, soon after he reaches the Ogre stage, the protagonist becomes too OP to care about anymore. He acquires powers way too easily, just by eating, and his skill list is unmanageable. The side characters have some personality, but they aren't developed enough to stand on their own for the most part, especially... more>> the harem he has. The setting isn't overly interesting either, but that just may be me.

2 stars because even if it is bad, it's not close to absolutely horrible. It just could be a lot better. <<less

In the very beginning I was hoping the story would go towards a village management and civilizing the goblins with human culture route, but it degenerates into a biased wish-fulfillment harem story very quickly. It makes you wonder if we have an unreliable narrator and the truth was he deserved to be stabbed to death in the beginning of the story.

About me: I'm a angry frustrated guy. The only things that matter for me are:

- Is it coherent? (With my poor sense of coherency).

- Is the narration able to keep you immersed?

... more>> - Is it fun and entertaining?

I don't write really well in english. I will come back tomorrow to make passable this text.

Best regards.

"PLEASE THE FAST REVIEW I DON'T HAVE YOUR TIME":

Cheap world credibility. Tasteless harem writing ruins everything. Poor character design. But these flaws could have been bypassed with an interesting story. Tragically, it is not the case here. The MC is just another overpowered guy with nearly no weakness. Nothing can stop him or threaten him.

For me, it's a huge disappointment because of the huge potential of this novel. Re: Monster has no goal, no horizon. The MC is unconcerned, so do I.

"LONG ANGRY REVIEW FULL OF RAGE AND FRUSTRATION"

Spoiler

I will explain in four parts why I've dropped Re:Monster.

[I] Coherence.

First, the logic behind moral and social interactions of the Re:Monster makes little sense to me:

(1) We understand that the world is unforgivable and that horrible choices must be made in order to survive.

(2) Some monster races need s*x s*aves in order to grow faster and stronger

(3) The world is ruthless and a rift exist in general between "civilized races" and monsters. Race wars exist. (Fight/truce/fight/truce/etc, sometime neutral coexistences, rarely friendly relationships at every level of the society).

(4) The MC uses horrible means to twist womens and males in nearly mindless s*x s*aves (virg*n fantasm I presume?).

(5) MC has a f*cking stockholmed harem.

(6) MC and his retainers are terrifying powerfull monsters that are able to crush entire armies.

(7) Nobody has resistance to brainwashing (psychologic or magic).

(8) Interactions with monster can corrupt and change the very essence of people.

At the same time:

(1) There is no strong reaction to the appearance and rise of monsters.

(2) Non-monsters interact finely with "non-agressive" races.

(3) Monsters can enter cities if circonstances allow it.

(4) Humans and Elves seem to have trouble to assemble giant armies, or to train heroes as strong as the strongest monsters.

(5) The security is troublesome and infrastructures seemingly in a poor state.

Nobody told tales about children being eaten? About the sad destiny awaiting women abducted by monsters? About monster raiding isolated villages? About powerfull monsters that need dozen of soldats to be stopped? No religious cult is affraid of corruption? Betrayals? Blood sucking? Anything? Hello?

Are all the inhabitants of this world the most tolerant and flegmatic people you have ever seen? When you read today how we are mefiant and affraid of the unknow, I can't read this without thinking: How is it possible for Royals to invite a dangerous and powerfull monster in their Palaces only on the testimony of a young naive Princess? Why paysants don't panic/flee at the sight of giant bone centipedes? Why nobody cares?

I can't say anything for now about political logic. The MC army is strong but "small". For fantasy kingdoms, he's still not aknowledged as a threat I think.

[II] Second: The harem stuff.

Ah! Yeay! Female characters that litteraly abandon their previous lives and inspirations only to orbitate around the MC for the most extreme while the lucky ones only wet themselve while blushing at the sight of the protagonist.

You know. I'm tired of brainless women characters. So at least if the author includes this shit, I hope just some... you know, interesting writing? Profound personnage that are able to make you feel something? Romance that make you feel something? Side stories? Erotism?

The MC imp**gnates his properties... I mean, totally not stockholmed women, has children... What are we supposed to feel?

You must have decades of loneliness to find the harem stuff in Re:Monster entertaining.

[III] Third: There is no depth.

You can link that too with the Harem/Romance stuff. There is no complexity in Re:Monster outside of the MC.

This one will be the meathead that will try to rival the MC. Perhaps he will develop a inferiority complexe and try something s*upid to proves himself suitable to be the MC follower.

The MC had saved me. I love him in secret. I will give my everything to become the best blacksmith/fighter/mage.

I was utterly crushed by the MC. My dignity as a knight was trampled, but I will make him aknowledge me!

Those two that we read their names since chapter ten are now in love. Great for them.

BECAUSE there is no complexe foundations in the other protagonists, everything that is supposed to be emotional, to mark a progression for the relationship between MC and random Y, everything becomes tasteless.

Romance. Side stories. Grinding. Harem. Rivalty. Friendship: they are additions. In the end, I don't care anymore about them. They are empty... and because it's a bother, I impatiently read fast just to find the part of the chapter that makes the plot progress.

[IV] Last hysterical point: There is nothing at stake.

So. The univers has some flaws. I don't care about the other guys around the MC and I find the harem boring.

In this case of emergency, the only thing that can make you endure everything is the plot progression, right?

There was a huge potential. Many themes and possibilities were left to our expectations and imaginations by the author: The fate of a reincarnated MC, the rise of a conqueror, a dark lord, a hateful monster, the creation of a faction, the crumbling of the balance of power, the wish to control his own fate, the possibility to discover why he was killed, moral questions about his new status and his past human morality (because we are monster, do we really must do that to prosper, should we erase our foes?), find a new home, founding a new legacy. Etc.

This is my honest opinion: I just feel betrayed by the author. I was hoping so much for the rise of a powerfull MC that creates his own society, that invades and dominates the world (or at least try). I needed no complexe reasons. The MC would have been Luthor, Sauron or just a Warhammer ORKBOYZ, I would have enjoy it. That's not the case.

That's not the case, but it's the author's choice. This is not easy to create a story. I don't have the right to slander the creator because he didn't answer my selfish wish.

But the story... Well, I really find it boring. I've read until he was invited to the Royal palace after delivering the random Princess that escaped a terrible generic dynastic plot.

The problem is that the ideas brought by the author are good. But there is nothing at stake. The MC is now too powerful to be threatened by normal soldiers or guards. The retainers are so strong that they can destroy entire armies!

But there is no existential threats. The MC has nothing to fear. He is so powerful that if he wished for, he would be able to manipulate just by himself an entire government just by himself.

And... Nothing. The story in my view is decelerating. After the first events and the creation of his main HQ, the MC took control of some stuffs, secured some links... and now, it's like a slow life novel.

The MC can afford to not care at all. Why do I still put efforts to care about this story while it's only now about random politcal plots, influence expansions, shitty harem/romances and random fights? If there is nothing to say, why not just make a timescape like "2Y"?

I don't see any main great adventure or quest. I do not see the appearance of something like overpowered knight that can rival the MC.

And with the addition of what I've written before: I give up.

I know that I'm awfully rude. I know how difficult it is to write a good story. How depressed we can be when our readers are litteraly burning our latest creation. But It's impossible for me to just write: It's disappointing. Good day.

Re:Monster was at the beginning a really good stuff full of awfully cool ideas. I hope that when I will come back in one or two years, everything I have written today will be the fat lie of a frustrated guy.

I don't mind OP characters nor do I mind it when characters have questionable morals. What I take issue with is the fact that Re:Monsters reads like a wish fulfilling wet dream. If it was written well then maybe it would be okay, but it's not and the story suffers due to it.

There's no tension, because the OP main character will always win. The other characters don't get much development and feel one dimensional.

There's also tons of r*pe towards men and women.

Spoiler

In the latest chapter I read, the MC tells his buddy to go have s*x with one of their male s*x s*aves before going in on his girlfriend. The s*x s*aves are elves and the MC's buddy is an orge. His girlfriend is also an orge and would probably be able to withstand him, but the MC suggests that raping men before going to the girlfriend is the way to go. The elves that are r*ped had to be healed because they couldn't handle it.

But they're pretty boy s*aves who were drugged and brainwashed into being r*ped. Oh and they're not r*ped, no one here is even though they've all been drugged and brainwashed.

As for the MC, he only sleeps with women and multiple ones at the same time because they all want him and are willing to share. How great, even though most are suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

[collapse]

After this scene I couldn't take it anymore. The hypocrisy towards r*pe and the level of wish fulfillment was too much to take.

Someone mentioned that if you like Kumo Desu Ga, Nani Ka? Then you'd like this, but they're wrong. So wrong. <<less

If want something that would Trigger a typical SJW and Feminazi into doing a ret*rded rage rant then this novel is just for you!!~ (examples? See reviews saying the word "wish fulfillment")

Diary style story telling in a "Isekai Tensei" genre is quite unique compared to the rest of the bunch. I recommend reading the manga adaptation if you want some visuals~

Sad that translation group is practically dead.

It has so, so much potential at first, with the author actually cares about the readers and writes with a proper passion: the background of MC, his situation being newly born as a goblin, how he interacts and gains strength, etc. Everything was so good and interesting because you never know what will happen next and you're all excited for the next day. BTW, this novel progresses by "Day" as in day 1, day 2, and so on. But after the entire "main" group of MC and Co. Leaves their... more>> jungle birthplace which is around day 100 (I'm entirely unsure about the day number since it's a hassle to go back and check with the writing style becoming sloppier as the novel progresses), the author smokes too much cheap weed made by communists and drinks too much cheap knockoff alcohol to actually write anything decent. SO he decides to $hit on the readers instead BY TURNING THE NOVEL INTO HIS TOILET SINCE MC DOES NOTHING BUT GOING INTO DUNGEONS AND GETTING MORE AND MORE SKILLS. Yeah, little plot advancement but 90% of the time MC is in dungeon hunting for bosses and loots. It just hurts trying to follow the author's descriptive writing about monsters inside a dungeon only to COMPLETELY SKIP how MC defeats them and go straight into looting process.

  • (ノಠ益ಠ) ノ彡┻━┻ like WTF? Why do u even bother to write those long-@ss descriptions for?!?
Spoiler

MC stole a special hero's FATE (yes, fate because this fate allows a person to raise certain flags and complete them give bonuses much like an RPG game and "hidden story plot" continues onto the next stage of the game) and MC just pretty much hunts everything to gain more power to hunt more powerful bosses. YUP, after all that initial story development, everything just becomes MUNDANE since that's all MC does besides having kids with everyone and having more s*x with his vampire wife.

The OP-ness is over 20, 000!!!

But I am still enjoying this - it's true it is better initially but for me, it's still readable and the kingdom building isn't bad either.

Has RPG elements, and a sort of story development plot that depends on the MCs decisions! The number of translated chapters need to be updated though as they are available.

This may be the first LN I have ever read (translated japanese LN) and is also the best that I've read so far. The main idea is fun, the characters having their own characteristics and the story slowly but surely going at a "daily pace" (each chapter represents a day. ex day 1, day 123, day 359 and so on...). Like many other novels the main character grows stronger and defeats enemies on the way to becoming stronger. This novel can in my opinion be compared in some concepts with... more>> Stellar transformation or Coiling Dragon (all three are my favourites). <<less

This story could have been great and it felt at times that the story was moving forward, only to be a let down. This novel should be titled "I eat everything and its delicious." because thats 3/4 of the novel.

Apparently nobody can talk in this novel, all dialog could fit on half a page. The author has the storytelling style of "the great war council started and they talked about everything." instead of actually writing what each character says, which was fine in the beginning but after 200 chapters it... more>> got way too unfulfilling.

The novel had so many good things it could have picked up on but decided to focus on the culinary experiences of eating bugs (which tasted delicious). For instance, it had a basis for kingdom building but didnt commit to it, it had a hint of political intrigue but decided it was too troublesome, there are spots of romance but gets turned into stationary breeding grounds etc.
At one point our 'hero' and gang takes on a legendary trial that nobody has ever accomplished and is famed for its high danger levels, yet when they complete it none gives a shit. They have dinner (and its delicious) and thats that... How can the author be THIS lazy. Kingdoms and tycoons would have swarmed to him to buy every favor they could to get his protection but nooooo, that would take away time to eat delicious things which taste deliciously delicious.

The only things found to be great with this novel was: the MC had an interesting skill/power which were used in clever ways and the author atleast had the guts to let the reader know that the characters reproductive organs worked (without it becoming p*rn). <<less

I really like the story until it started to just descend in the MC just being OP for no apparent reason.

For Example :

Spoiler

At one point after fighting for his life with his team to kill the dragon at the end of the volcano. They discover that an even stronger dragon is the true final boss of the dungeon. This dragon is described at being way more powerful and can one shot the boss that I just spent forever reading a close battle about. Then the MC just goes "surprise I was holding back most my strength the whole time" and then kills it.

After that point I read more and just couldn't follow it anymore. Really good until that point left disappointed at the end. So I'll give it a 3/5.

Honestly in the beginning the novel was pretty aight. However like many of the other people have said, it gets worse. For me it's not because he's overpowered or has too many skills. It's because he's the biggest hypocrite I've read about. He talks all about how he finds it wrong forcing himself and letting others force themselves onto women. So he sees these women sufferring from the r*pe and abuse and gives them"mercy" by killing them, than he goes into how he finds it wrong and shit. it's not ment to be a story about him unifying humans and goblins or anything like that it's about him being tge monster that consumes the world nothing more nothing less.

In the beginning it was a bit more fun but he even said that he was going also eat the goblins but he changed his mind. Everything he has everything he does is for his benefit nothing else, yes he r*pes, mu*ders, pillage and repeats but that what it should be him doing and taking what he wants.

He kill the... more>> s*ave women in the beginning because because they didn't want to live anymore not because he disapproved of s*x s*aves and he kinda treats his s*ave kinda well. The oh so popular Re:Monster.... It's a good story, but its not the Best.. RPG novel.. but anyways, While the story and idea is unique and good, it suffers from a few things, like extremely fast paced story telling, and extremely good luck of the MC.. meh

I don't understand why people so mad about moral etc. This MC's even explained in very begining. SMH

And to be honest all of them just tagging chapters ramdomly then bad mouth about it. There's no point if you want a storys good guy whos accidentally get harem everytime he met a loner girl or a s*ave or dumb girl who threaten bad in their community. This LN just not for you after all.

MC's has no goal. CORRECT. BUT, he never mentioned what's goal in his isekai life begin. He only... more>> want survive and make a better life more than his previous one. Thats why the story's more like a diary. The MC's wrote all his daily activities for human being to know what he does in isekai life. It's more like we found a diary in somewhere and we just read that book curiously. Maybe you'll get annoyed with his act etc. But you've no point to blame him.

IMO. People who give bad rates only read their genres and when found this new genre they all so mad. So ironic, same as human being. <<less

This one's super tr*shy. Story about a guy with the power to absorb some of the abilities of anything he eats getting reincarnated into a fantasy world as a goblin. And so you watch him eat things to gain more powers, evolve into stronger and stronger monsters, build an army of other monsters, have s*x with a harem of women, beat up anyone who wants to fight him, etc.

There's a lot of hypocritical elements between how the lead condemns others and then engages in the exact same awful behavior for... more>> one thing, that might turn you off quickly. There's also no real challenge for the main character, he always has backup powers that are constantly growing. If you read this, it's pretty much solely to revel in the power fantasy tr*shiness of it. There's translations out there up to chapter /day 420, but a lot of them are barely edited google translate jobs, so it's rather painful to read too far ahead.

So yeah, read some if you want some tr*shy power fantasy fun, I dip back in every now and then, but there are lots of other novels with better constructed stories, more apparent stakes, and less questionable elements out there. <<less

It's basically a human reincarnating as a monster who leads a mercenary band. Not sure why people expect him to be a good person.

The MC base philosophy is "If you're good to me I'll be good to you, if you're bad to me I'll repay in kind". Then to that there's the addition of leading and keeping control over a band of merc monsters. He is ocationally forced into morally questionable decision mainly because he'd lose the faith of his subbordinates if he didn' go atleast that far, but he... more>> is trying to keep it at a minimum.

As for the story I do enjoy the begining quite alot but it gets more and more repeatable and predictable as the MC gets stronger and stronger. The fights that originally relied on outsmarting his opponents while putting his body at risk turns into him steamrolling eveything in his sleep. The incredibly poor quality of the mashine trans of the latter half also kills any enjoyment.

Personally I'd recommend anyone to drop it after he evolves past Ogre stage. <<less
