Warning: This story does start off with grim darkness. BUT.... it does go fluffy wuffy later.

So from chapters 1 - 176 it is pretty much other world shenanegans and stuff that can be grim dark and emo and sad and stuff. And oh we get some harem action going too.

After 176 is when it gets really interesting and funny and stuff. So try to get pass the 176 chapters.

... more>> Remember: 1-176 = grim dark fantasy and some harem action.

177 + = fantasy, funny, entertaining and over all better than I had expected.

Best of luck and join the rest of us. hahahaha! <<less

Alright, first of all, I would like to say that seeing people who are actually giving this novel bad reviews have clearly not seen enough of the typical boy meets girl-->romance-->tsundeb*tch beating up the wuss MC beCUase CoMedY.
Honestly, I started this novel because I read a bit of the Manga (fully expecting it to be another Is It Wrong to pick up girlsblahblah in a dungeon.) I have to say this was the most refreshing novel I had ever read. None of that bs where the MC gets beaten... more>> up by thotderes for cOmEdY, a powerful MC who knows how to be alpha as f*ck, the cliches are there but in a nice way, kinda like my hero academia. MCs main girl is the one coercing him into a harem, don't blame him, he cannot win against his princess (even nightbattles). You know the annoying, naive, MY OWN JUSTICE IS THE TRUTH- kind of character? Well If you've got a grudge against them, you'll absolutely love this novel. The smug is present, the laughs are there, the diabetes are there, and badassness you cannot get enough of is also present (a good 40-60% of the novel depending on what you classify as badass). Also his weapons are waifu material if you love guns and the like. <<less

Normally I would give this a 4 star, but seeing as how generally on these websites scores are inflated, I raised it to a 5. Is Arifureta something amazing and new kind of like how AOT and SAO was for anime watchers? Definitely not. But is it something worth reading? In my opinion it is.

Now first of all, I'm not one of those guys who loves those dark, gritty, realistic types of stories. I love fantasy, I love OP MC's, I love having pretty girls all over the place. Why?... more>> Because real life kind of sucks compared to that, and I'd like to read something that I don't experience pretty much every day, or on the news. I understand why some people don't like this type of writing, it's "unrealistic" and "predictable". Okay, go read classic literature. This is for people who love cliches, who love the background of "fantasy world, MC adventures around" and like to explore all the different routes authors can take.

The characters are funny, and most of all, distinguishable, and even without necessarily having arcs revolved around them, you get to understand the characters better through their actions and conversations with each other. The MC is someone I was confused by at first, because generally MC's will be super nice and want to save everyone, but it's interesting how the author takes the road of (nice guy) -> (cold, "mean" guy) -> (cold, nice guy). His life threatening experience and harsh treatment in the first arc changes him drastically, and throughout the story, he slowly regains his humanity.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes isekai types of light novels, but if you're a Saya no Uta kind of guy, this is not for you. <<less

I don't know why one of my favorite novel is so low in ranking but this is a very unique series you know, most of the stories are only 3rd rate in the imaginability, but this guy tops even Kazuma Kamachi when it comes to imagining what happened inside. It's charm cannot be explained unless you change your perspective. Try reading it very slowly and repetitively that a volume could take an hour or two to finish, of course, while you imagine. If you cannot do that then you are... more>> mostly biased and don't have the capacity to imagine further. Well, depends on the person really. The fights, the labyrinths, the surface, the valley is imaginable on a large scale. Very descriptive. Truly a unique series. The characters too, might be cliche but you can see what they're doing happening. Especially all heroines and their tendencies, it is all within the scale predictable, with draft environments you can freely doodle. Draft heroines + draft environments = you can set it the way you like. And the author never fails to answer you. Very enjoyable new experience.

Hint: if you know a lot of thigs then you can play most part of the novel for real in first person perspective. Even the plot. Try playing skyrim or the like to improve your sense of lighting and texture, and Sfx. Best to read at silent places. As an addition, this story is sweet and the atmosphere is dark, so try weaving your feelings accordingly as the MC <3, as reference try knowing more at companionship *it can give you insight in the future on how to judge the feelings an author poured in his stories.

Unnecessary, don't read
Edit: I've read the comments but seriously!? I mean you didn't see it coming? And volume 1 was actually pretty sweet, the writing didn't even change much. I don't know what you were expecting, but this novel just wasn't meant for 'that' hateful kind of dark, and I guess it is overall enjoyable if you did not go outside the authors point of view, from the way I see it, you just expect things to happen without actually going deep on the waters, and don't just go ahead and judge the authors character from the perspective of a social degenerates (someone who is reliant or more prone to complaining their problems) it doesn't necessarily mean that bullied people are vengeful, most of them are just peaceful, and the correct term is loner. To those people who actually viewed the series as someone who thinks that the author has the image of those who wants to get back on others or wanting to be cool, can go read more novels before coming back here. Loners rarely gets angry, and the image they want is something out of longing for something, not the trendy-or-wanting-attention kind of cool. And do you even read? Try SAO to polish that. And reading is definitely not something for those who judge based from preferences, especially a poor judge of character, seriously. <<less

I'm honestly surprised that I managed to get up to chapter 93 in the raws before I got sick of this series. Certainly, I skimmed some, but skimming is a lot more difficult when you can't read it to begin with. Well, to be fair, I only read ~40 chapters in Japanese. But, even so.

Various plot spoilers in the following, read at your own risk:
Spoiler

In hindsight, this story was great until he met Yue. It was a gritty, fight-for-your-life survival. And yet the author decided to turn him into a chuuni nightmare (for us) --WHILE acknowledging that it was chuuni. At the time, I was caught up in the addiction of reading chapter after chapters, so I didn't even realize how s*upid that was. But now...

Moving on, it went from great to good after leaving the 1st dungeon. Then it went from good to okay, and okay to "why the heck am I even reading this?" I really wanted to know what happened after they reunited, though, so I kept on reading.

When he meets the girl from his class again, I'd say that's when things were really ruined. I got the rabbit girl clinging to him. She didn't seem to be the brightest, and was a persistent girl. To be honest, I always thought she was just mistaking other feelings for love. But that chick from his class?

I've never understood devoting yourself to a man who you love, but obviously has someone else he loves and is sleeping with. Correction, a man you are infatuated with. Because I don't think that it can be considered love when it's entirely one-sided on her part.

Anyways, when it hit the underwater arc, I just couldn't take it any longer. I stopped reading the raws back in 2014, and then blasted through the translations a few months back. And after that, I decided that it wasn't just my shaky understanding of the story--it was really, incredibly boring. Too many power-ups, too much OP.

[collapse]

The only pro this series still has going in my mind is that it's a bit earlier in the OP department. At the very least, OP wasn't nearly so common (and boring) back then. <<less

The absolute best full class isekai in my opinion, what I loved most was that unlike most isekai, the MC didn't get op by luck or some god's whim, he seriously had to think and struggle to create his own opness.

And seriously, if you don't like harems, don't read stuff with harem tags and start giving them low ratings, you're spoiling it for those of us who do.

I have finished reading the main story line, and dropped it after a couple chapters in on the after story. Bare with me I finished reading this like a year ago.

The story premise is okay, the problem is our characters plot armour and the fact that he is very often contradictory to his feelings. SPOILERS AHEAD.

I will start with the pros and cons of characterization.

    1. Our protag is a fairly decent personality at the start of the story before he becomes all monster-fied and electrified, already having quite the broken ability of transmutation or whatever it was called. Sadly not being smart enough to know he can use it for greater purposes until his arm is bitten off and going through extreme pain of having his body reformed, does he figure out he can make some hectic sh*t out of it like guns, MERICA!
    2. One REALLY good aspect is how much pre-planning he goes into before major fight sequences. Adds a whole other depth to his fights, not to mention side characters are almost never made useless, though they are given plot armour in the form of a harem. The author does a shitty job at most of the cliches implemented, yes they are fun now and then, but they come in the form of the exact same type of comedic trope. Eg yue and the rabbit chick competing over the protag 8====D.
    3. Same comedy is used every single time, they almost never develop a relationship between each other that isn't dependent on our protag, same goes for the rest of the girls. Everything revolves around our protag, like the sun with planets. Now you may argue that is what a harem is meant to be, but hey, it makes the characters extremely linear with no depth. Hell even one of the harem members the dragon chick is a masochist, and that's all she has got to her character, nothing else. It's like the author just wanted a big tiddy dragon chick kid you not.
    4. Our protag has a real hatred for a select few individuals in his class, but never does the common sense thing you would do to such individuals. Some are straight up selfish/greedy and are very obviously dangerous to everyone else well being. ... more>>
      Spoiler

They later kill our protags crush, but the protag was being a soft sh*t before and didn't kill the guy (who attempted to mu*der him at the start of the story by making him fall down into the abyss) which led to the whole situation leading to the chicks death (and then convenient resurrection)

      [collapse]
Next on is the STORY, WORLD, COMBAT and TRANSMUTATION!.

      1. Our story is basically...
        Spoiler

Protagonist build harem, get strong, fight sadistic god to keep harem safe and get back home to japan.

        [collapse]
Pretty bland story am I right....? Well..... the other bits in pieces of this novel is it's charm, not this plot.
      2. The charm includes: WORLD BUILDING!
        Spoiler

For our protag to get stronger and add new harem members, he must explore dungeons. There are 8 dungeons (I think), each dungeon was made by an individual, part of a group that had the goal of defeating the evil god. They did not succeed so they made 8 dungeons outside of the god's influence with the hope that someone strong and mighty would come, conquer said dungeon, and attain the powers/items that came with completing said dungeon.

        [collapse]
      3. The cities and towns etc are also really cool additions to the novel, overall done really well.
      4. COMBAT and transmutation!!! Combat is pretty cool, kinda original from what I remember, but in this case everything is STAT based which is something everyone has seen. Luckily our protag has the ability to transmute (literally alchemy from fullmetal alchemist) materials into whatever form/shape he desires giving an extra depth to combat, this ability ties into his preparation before fights. So he makes things like...
        Spoiler

Dual railgun revolvers, sniper railgun, a bloody hand held minigun, rocket launchers, a massive anti-vampire (not really, it can be used against anything but the principle is a huge munition) stake several metres thick, a prosthetic arm with many enchantments and so on so forth. He even has vehicles

        [collapse]
        .
Overall the story is a big fat cliche. The characters have been done before and follow all the cliches, but for me the ride was fun because of all the world building. Many of the villains were nice except the final one was pretty meh. <<less

This novel starts nicely. The plot has direction and every girl in the harem is unique that you can imagine them speaking when reading their speech pattern without the author saying who's talking.

Im gonna rant about others saying Arifureta is bad.

  1. This WN not perfect, it has flaws but the positives cover it all
  2. Main heroine being a loli...
    Spoiler

The loli vampire has stopped aging since 12 she is old enough to be your great great great great ancestor, she may have the body of 12 buy the MC is 16, the age gap is wide... the thing is.. some readers imagine themselves to be the MC and disgusted with the Yue, well duh, you are most probably an adult

    [collapse]
  3. "Stop reading this, it's a waste of brain cells" well Mr. Smarty Pants how bout instead of reading WNs and LNs you read Science journals... leave us alone
  4. Spoiler

"I disconnected when Kaori died" I honestly thought to stop reading when she died, but not because I'm disappointed but because I'm nervous that she may die eternally but I pushed through and got satisfied.

    [collapse]
This is one of it's charm, it's a roller coaster ride! Sometimes it's sweet, exciting, dark, sad. It's a complete package!
  5. And to the guy who made an account just to bash this Novel, crying about Yue, you think our common sense exist at that world? Many world transfer novels indicates early marriages due to fight against Demon Clan, I'm not a lolicon but looking at that perspective it's acceptable...? You clearly didn't take the novel to heart... you are in no position to rate this 1 star cos you simply don't know how to read and appreciate

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou for better or worse is a story that fails to live up to the quality and potential it displayed in the first volume. The inconsistency of the MC was fed me up.

At first it looks like an interesting dark fantasy novel with a betrayed hero as its MC. But, then it changed into a story of a labile teenager that don't know what he really want.

Made an account just to write this review.

First of all.

If you've read all the reviews before, you can skip mine. Since I write practically the same thing.

... more>> Anyway...

I recommend reading the first volume of the novel, since unlike most other 'otherworld' novels out there, that one single volume is clearly different.

The MC's journey there is well written, it actually takes you by the soul with all the dark stuff (gory, but not enough to make you feel bad). The fights and his life in the begining makes you feel like it's actually a life&death type of situation for him.

Basically the first volume is worth reading and mostly approved by everyone. Afterwards... Well... If you like cheesy harem/romcom with fights where the MC, basically oneshots his enemies (yes, OnePunch man, but with a gun). And have a crap ton of time on your hands with nothing else to read (go read Coiling Dragon), you can read this. But read at your own risk!!!

So 4, 5/5 for the 1st volume.

And -9000/5 for 2nd volume and up. <<less

Arifureta is a good read for someone who likes the absurd. It starts off with your typical "transferred to your other world" opening, and proceeds with a character who is basically expendable. After his traumatic trip through hell, his personality does a 180. The first volume is excellent for this. The remaining 7 volumes basically become Hajime's struggle through the absurd. He learns to lighten up, but stays true to his convictions. Yes there's a lot of eyeroll moments, yes Tio gets out of hand. The story would have done... more>> better with just Yue and Kaori as main heroines. It seems that this was intended, however, since the ending of the story states it - "fighting the absurdity with more absurdity". <<less

The half-assed history of a half-assed guy.

A very simple plot that feels even worse because of its promissing begining, since his "rebirth" all the suspense is gone, the MC who until the moment only could manipulate the walls then becomes a military expert able to craft a railgun in a few days... And so the simple plot of a super OP guy who gets everithing in the first try withot effort... There isnt a development nor anything

Well, its like a Chuunibyou, but thats what makes it feel good. The protagonist starts weak as newborn but after extremely painful, tragic, and survival kill or be killed situation. He overcomes things by pure will. When he was in middle school he did an amazing thing for some people, that thing is something that you must have an iron will, and a courage beyond normal people. I also really like how his personality changed but did not break after all he went through. And since I have read lots... more>> of fantasy settings and the like, this novel has a classic feel, so its nice <<less

When I see so many negative comments in this NU page I can't understand what are they disappointed about.

First of all it's not a revenge story. It may look like one but it's not. MCs mainly goal is just retun to his home world and vows to kill anyone who is blocking his path for his goal. He is ruthless but not a mindless psychopath who kills randomly.

He is surprisingly not your typical beta jp MC who is indecisive and make you frustrated. He has a clear goal and he... more>> is strive towards it without bending to others. But even though he is ruthless but he is not a heartless. I like the fact he is mellowing out little in the course of the story progression but don't worry he will never became your typical beta jp MC.

As for the Harem, He didn't accept anyone other than the Vampire Princess until he fulfills his long standing goal and even the Harem is happening only because the Vampire Princess pushing it. And they are not a cardboard cutting like one comment mentioned. They have a sufficient character depths and most of them were likable.

What I love the most in this novel is the after stories. They are more interesting than the original story. They consisting fun side stories to secrets of the world which didn't explained in the original novel.

All in all it's a read if don't expect too much and after stories are definitely worth a time. Just give it a try for atleast 50+ chapters to decide whether you want to read it or not. <<less

I have to say I can agree that this novel might not be for everyone, but there are many statements that I cannot agree with. This is NOT a revenge novel - Hajime never stated that he wants revenge. Yes he thought about it once, but decided his main goal is getting outta there. He said many times that he just doesn't care about his classmates. While he considers himself heartless, he may be not completely, but as he stated everyone who gets in his way gets done in. Shoot... more>> first, ask later. He was told to be very kind and considerate and while he may have stated he abandoned those parts out of necessity, I do believe it logical that your mindest starts to change when given leeway. A humans mind is not that simple and I do believe that is shown here. Even the fact that he helped Yue was simply bevause she was "betrayed" and that triggered him. I find this is a plausible cause for his behaviour.

I also believe the characters are all well made. Of course this IS a light novel so yes it is full of tropes, but the background and character are very distinctive and consistent. Of yourse MC and others change over their journey but that is to be expected. Well and the thing about his harem, until the novel was nearing its end he never even considered accepting anyone beside Yue

Spoiler

He accepts only Shia after he finds the clue how to get back to Earth and everyone else is only mentoined to be accepted at the end of the main novel. It is also mentioned he mainly accepted it because Yue did as well. Yue herself mentioned that she pushed this because she wants Hajime to find more things precious to him. They are both aware that they are dependent on each other. He clings to her no matter what and she would follow him even if he would betray her.

[collapse]

Well I also like the fact he changed over time and started caring about his party members. There was also a statement that he lost his edge early, I do belive that might be not so a clear cut matter. He makes a decision and acts on it.

Spoiler

He makes his decision to go home and thats his main goal the whole novel. He adds more "goals" later on like taking everyone with him, but that is not really a contradiction. Hajime only stated "Everyone who gets in my way will be killed" something along those linse and he acts on it. When he decides to help Yue, he also stated that he made the decision to help her and he would not consider himself a man if he goes back on it just because its a bit dangerous.

[collapse]

Well I don't believe that is contradicory with his main goal. Well I can understand if someone might consider it as such.

Well what is bothering me somewhat is that overly ridiculous behaviour sometimes. In Hajimes case it may drive the point of "not caring about this world" home, it is somethat overboard. But that also makes it funny in many ways. I never considered this a novel that is overly dramatic. And I only considered it to have a serious undertone but I didn't consider that to be the main point of the novel. The perception of what you expect of a novel might be a good way to get disappointed. I do believe that this novel is full of jokes and laughters.

The main reason the perception of this novel might be considered a serious one is probably due to the breakdown of the MC, this is a very impactful scene in my opinion and is extremely well written.

Spoiler

But if you consider that he ate the arm of the bear in front of it and starts muttering how disgusting this is shortly after is a good point of not taking everything too serious.

[collapse]

I read it is more comedic story and that it is. Well yes this novel works with very serious topics, but always handles this as ironice or more like a parody on society maybe? It does contain many issues that are always a thing, llike discrimination, religious fanatics, maipulation of the public opinion. It is ridiculous though. Very much so.

I read the main novel several times. It's one of my favorite and even after several time still funny. The after story is even more hilarous in a good and a bad way..

I also really like the point that the MC is not (and never waas) a s*ave to society and doesn't simply follows what he's told. A rarity nowadays... Ah and one point I do find important is the fact that Hajime is neverr ruthless abd cruel without a reason like "because I can" He leaves others alone and wants to be let alone himself in a way and not like many other novels I read recently where ruthlesness is depicted as "I take it because I want it."

I can fully recomment this novel (if you don't take it too serious!). It has a consistent story and characters (at least I think so, I'm not a pro review writer after all!) It is a funny read with a straight story line. The side quest like stories are kept to a minimum and always work toward the main goal. <<less

Tbh, I reread arifureta and overall, I dont think its that bad as everyone else is saying. Though it might be bias as this is one of the first WN ive read, most of the other review really shows that they stopped after reading the main story (Liberators Arc).

So, after I finish the main story, I decide to give the After Story a go, and damn im impressed!! The amount of comedy and slice of life in the series really is good! This also shows how the MC mellows down... more>> a bit after all the things he went through during the main storyline, and yet the amount of things he did in the after story is also as great, if not as good as the main storyline. From the after stories, we can see the many character development of the whole cast, like how the annoying hero in the main story really grew to be a more likable character in the series. I'll be honest, these things are what made me fell in love with the WN, and just because the other guy say its bad, doesnt really mean u should ignore it right away.

The main storyline though, is really just abit unique from the other isekais ive read where instead of just accepting the fact that they cant go home and decides to live there, he struggles to find a way to return back. Though along the way he made a harem and all, the whole journey there really is satisfying as it tickles the inner chuuni of anyone whos reading it.

Overall, if u really want to enjoy an isekai with a great balance of fluff, action, and laughs. Arifureta is really the one, and it gets even better after the main story, (Its true though, im not lying, hell would freeze when the day I lie!) <<less

I don't really get why so many people don't like this novel. I'm 23, not a kid, and still there are people here saying "Don't be listening to these kids, this novel is disappointing". Honestly, I loved it. One of my favorites Novels I've ever read. The translations could be better but they did their job and I'm thankful for that, but the main story is amazing. First volume is a solid 5 star from me. Second volume immediately made my rating drop by 2 stars, as the addition of a second heroine was unneeded and forced. This happens quite often in LNs, and it never makes any sense and never adds anything tangible to the experience other than irritation.

As some others have said, the story would have been much better if it was just MC and Yue, since the author spent an entire volume building their relationship up, and it was in my opinion very well... more>> done. I expected the future volumes to continue expanding on that, but it went in the opposite direction with every release. And even then, the addition of new heroines was something I was willing to put up with since MC seemed uninterested in pursuing them as love interests, saying as much several times during the story, but of course he goes back on his words as he starts turning back into a soyboy, quickly dashing the image you got of him during the first volume.

I have no further expectations, and as of now I'm discontinuing reading this one. Even if you're normally fine with harem, read at your own discretion. <<less

I really enjoyed this novel, but let me be clear: the first volume is really different than the rest... this is not a revenge novel if you are looking for some dark themed novel you should look somewhere else, there is some serious moments but it is mostly a adventure/comedy/harem

well I was able to like this novel because the following volumes even if they were of a different genre of novel it was well developed, there is this feeling of trying to hard to look cool/bad-ass it screamed of chunni... more>> but I loved wen the author made fun of it.

the only REAL problem of this novel is that most fights did not have real tension.... <<less
