first of all, I rate this novel 3 stars. The reason is simple. The Author Maruyama committed 2 big mistake in my opinion. The first is that the 41 guild players were missing in the story where they should have transported together were preferable much better than a single lonely man. I can laugh and excited to see next volume but I feel empty inside that Momonga was still looking for his enemy while he still looking a possibility meeting his guildmate. But yet, it was very much TOO Long... more>> to wait of how many Volume needed to appear his guild friends or his target enemy. That's right, reach 13 volumes his friends and his target enemy is still not appearing on the otherworld.

2. Sure there is the anime and manga version. However, look at them, the anime was a mess. Problem 1. They used CGI on out of nowhere but still its okay level. The big problem was they create a movie that just compiling the Anime outof Season 1 into one Long hour movie (it was a waste of budget seriously) which even worse that they ruined the season 3 at the episode of the masscarce in the plains. As for the manga, they were wrong picking on the artist. I mean the art style doesn't fit in comparison with the novel version. I am hoping still waiting for the OVA of the 41 guild members to be announced. <<less

Overlord is what consider to be near the pinnacle of an OP MC in a fantasy world story can be. The setting is incredibly fleshed out, with the various nations, religions, and creatures being well thought out and seem natural, not forced or convenient. All of the various characters are unique and have their own quirks, strengths, and roles in the novel. All in all, Overlord is a must read for anyone who is a fan of light novels.

I took off one star because I feel like the author is... more>> stretching out the story a bit too much, with a lot of exposition and even entire novels devoted to characters and settings that end up being completely unimportant to the main storyline (the two story arcs I'm referring to are the one involving the lizard people and the one involving the invaders of Nazarick). Without spoiling too much, both those arcs spanned entire novels and ultimately resolved in a way in which the characters in the spotlight ended up not being essential or have any long-term bearing on the main plot. They were what I consider to be "filler novels". Fortunately, the most recent novels has gotten us back on track. <<less

Awesome MC, great plot, interesting characters, and many more things makes this LN my fav.

The best part about this ln is that despite being Overpowered MC uses his brain and takes every precaution. Every action taken is so well though that it makes super amazing character!

This is probably my favorite Japanese light novel. An MC ruling over an evil kingdom that has to fake it till he makes it. The execution on a lot of events are so great and comedic, truly one of the better dark comedies I've seen. I could definitely see why people wouldn't like it though, I think you have to really get into the mind of the characters to enjoy the horrible things that occur. That being said, the novel does a good job getting me into that mindset and... more>> I think it does for a lot of people hence the success of the series. <<less

Decent storyline, sometimes too many narratives however the narratives is good for the sake of character development. Will stack some more volume until I binge read again

Imagine you're the boss of a powerful corporation and the only shareholder. Board of Directors, top CEOs, and everyone else worship you. Now the only problem is that your subordinates are exceptionally brilliant, and you're a walking epitome of being brainless; yet, you can't afford to lose face, so you keep acting a peerless leader. You're not doing it well; still, no one doubts you, so eventually, you decide to watch your corporation destroying the world and chill.

That's how The Overlord is. It's a nice comedy and untypical JP novel... more>> that has a little bit of everything. Although the protagonist is rather standard (wannabe outside and whiny bit*h inside), the brilliant worldbuilding and well fleshed out side-characters are able to keep you distracted.

It's not perfect. The crawling pace of the main plotline shows that the author doesn't know in what direction to stir, so expect many giant fillers full of boring stuff. The LN should be a polished version of the WN, but Maruyama wasn't decisive enough to cut the crap from his work. For now, it's a brilliant story jumbled with whole volumes that go nowhere. Thus 4 stars. The good news is that you can skip these fillers without losing anything of value.

Also, Overlord can't be what it is without the artist So-bin that does a great job at enriching the story, even better than the author himself.

P.S.: manga serialization is the best thing that happened with Overlord, the artist Miyama Fugin nailed the atmosphere perfectly and his skill is not inferior to So-bin's; if you like the novel then go and check the manga, you may like it.

Spoiler

The protagonist can't get laid because he doesn't have the D. Poor Albedo will stay a virg*n for eternity.
