This was actually a really good novel, even though I was struggling through with the raws for the majority. Initially, it comes across as another "reborn before the apocalypse, train to survive" novels, but it does a decent job at distinguishing itself from the rest. For one thing, the side characters serve as more than foils to display the MC's awesomeness; they're actually well developed and interesting. In that same vein, the relationship between background characters and our 2 mains are fairly different from most apocalypse stories. Rather than them... more>> being inseparable, will-die-for-each-other besties from chapter 1, we see the MC building relationships with the side characters, so their relationship is genuinely believable and you can't help but enjoy their interactions.

What I really like about this novel, though, is that it takes a fairly interesting approach to the whole zombies and cultivation (not sure what to call it in the story's context).
Spoiler

Namely, I thought it was quite novel that they gave zombies the ability to gain intelligence rather than just strength, and even set up a pretty novel concept of 2 zombies running away to join their base, one to befriend the MC and the other to chase a girl.

[collapse]

Because of that, I had to drop 1 star- the ending really shouldn't have come so soon after whetting my appetite with such an interesting plot point. Add to that the fact that the final confrontation ended pretty quickly, the end of the novel was rushed too much. Still a very enjoyable read, however. <<less

I gave this novel 2stars just because I like reading bl apocalypse and the scarcity that I face. So I ususally don't do reviews and all because whenever I read other people's review about character development, their depth etc. I feel as if I am reading the novel the wrong way. I just read for the fun it.

That's why this one did not really sit well with me. The MC has no presence at all, especially after ch 50 or so. He is either just meditating or acting spoiled towards... more>> the ml. He tried to build his own force at the first saying that status decides everything and that he ended up dead in his last life due to his low status but later the author just gave up on everything later saying that the MC was either lazy or too dumb to do anything. Everything for them was smooth sailing, too smooth for it to be apocalypse. The world is crumbling down but the couple don't care cause no human, zombie or organistion can stand against their power of love...😖 The ML too is pretty average to be working in a triad. He leaves the whole group to chase after the MC after just acquiring it and uses large amount of funds to chase a guy. Then when they kick him out feels betrayed by his family and leaves them to die to the apocalyse justfying that they betrayed him first. He is a insufferable self righteous prick with only one more brain cells than the MC. Who in their right mind would allow someone to use funds that is meant for the operating a large organisation and maintaing their livelihood to chase a guy. He was just asking for it when he knew that he had just taken the seat and that the situation was unstable but who cares he is the ml. The ML doesn't care if his brothers are in danger if there is a single scratch on MC and charges into the enemy base like a idiot and the enemy have no choice but to go die (sigh). Their subordinates are completely background characters that just fade in the background as the stories goes. What power did that Han Yan guy even manage to awaken? Where in the Qin guy who used wind ability go? Where are the father son duo? The more I read the more it gets frustrating. So yeah sorry.

Just here to rant. <<less

So I've previously read and finished this novel. I had a vague impression of it, so decided to reread once more.

I really don't know how I managed to finish it the first time round. I admire my patience and perseverance. Or perhaps my threshold for apocalypse novels was non-existent before.

The MC is this novel's down fall. He is simply a vindictive, small minded little sh*t. And not the cute type but rather the slapable type. Honestly, his character settings are the sort that would make him a fitting cannon fodder... more>> in other novels. He makes me want to transmigrate into the novel just to "talk about life with him". Apart from there being not much to like about him as a person, everything else is meh. Setting is okay. ML forgettable.

Also, there is an underlying tone of sexism throughout the novel. Though I'm hardly shocked, since it seems to be a very common thing in Chinese BL novels.

Anyway, thanks for the author's efforts but also sincerely hope they can improve and educate themselves. This will greatly benefit their future works.

As always thanks for the translators/editors/ hardwork. <<less

Starts out good, but the actions the MC takes are completely nonsensical to me. Aside from being unreasonably aggressive, the author loses track of what can and can't be done in the MC's dimensional space with every chapter. Spoilers up to ch14 below. Don't read if you like sane protagonists.
Spoiler

Transported back in time a year before the Apocalypse happens, MC picks out two bodyguards and drives around buying materials and food. He has a dimensional space and says the living, including himself and animals, "can't access it" but he frequently does? MC also bought some chickens and tried to put them in the storage space but realized, hey, the chickens are alive, so they can't go in the dimensional space, but the day before he "went in" and cleared 2 acres to raise farm animals. MC also got a two story house despite, wait for it, him supposedly not being able to access it and no one else can go in.

HOWEVER, despite all this I kept reading because the plotline is borderline interesting, but I had to stop at chapter 14. He shoots up a nightclub and actually mu*ders people for.. No reason? A girl was flirting with him and he broke her arm. MC is dumb and aggressive as hell.

It's hard to find a story with good plot. I have been dropping novels a lot lately because everything seems like everything is same to me. Whether it is apocalypses or romance or rebirth it's like same copy paste but little bit differs.

I have read up to 77 chapters and could not go on. It felt bland to me. It would have been more interesting if author wrote the before rebirth plot cause that felt a different taste and spicy to me. After rebirth MC got overpowered and ML is... more>> like fool. Character development, poor performance. May be not my type I do not like too doted characters and it feels woolen to me. Characters of course needs chemistries but hyperbole is not welcome for me it feels not real.

Thanks author for the hard work. <<less

Well, this novel got everything I like in a BL: devoted committed straight-forward protags, interesting side characters, dystopian apocalyptic fantasy world, coherent plot and character behaviour and a good portrayal of human nature in survival mode. Basically, everything the series "The Walking Dead" could have been but wasn't! lol...

From the comments, I realise many did not like the MC's nasty character... lol... but I did like him and I think that his temperament and behaviour are quite coherent with his past experiences, his education, his 'spoiled brat' nature, his inborn... more>> recklessness but also the 'uncertainty factor' despite him being transmigrated and OP. I did not mind that the MC had such a flawed and nasty character. Everyone else in the novel were also flawed and two-faced. Everyone acted selfishly or cowardly or s*upidly and that does not make them good or bad as they all have their own reasons. There is never an oversimplification of good/evil theme, which is one of my pet hates in most productions coming out of Hollywood or Disney or american comics. <<less

This story is absolutely amazing and brilliantly crafted. I've read through to the end and it was very satisfying, and the ending was satisfying too!

Spoiler

bai jing and xiao sha are a great couple and they love each other a lot. There's a bit of smexy times towards the later chapters, but the story is mostly about their journey to establish their own city and to settle down affairs with bai jing's dad and the zhou family (which hurt bai jing in his past life). They collect a lot of people along the way, and even befriend this cute little zombie at like the last 3 chapters ahahaa

It is a lovely story with all the spices. I just wanted to read like 100 more chapters rather than just 130+3. The ending might have been prolonged, it rather looked like abrupt ending.

Story was a good use of previous life knowledge. MC and ML were well crafted out characters. Other side characters are solid too. It is just that sometimes it looked like evading the intensity or avoiding the intense plot on author's part. Like, MC's team was supposed to face 5 strong Zombies but those Zombies attacked the... more>> later team and annihilated it almost. Similarly in the end MC's step mother, there was no direct confrontation, MC hit the button and blew the lab where his mother was supposedly, in the end. So regardless of ups and downs plot was good. <<less

Thank you translators for having found this candy piece and sharing it. Hehe ?? I am actually at chapt 113, and I didn't find a reason to abandon it yet. Althought reading google translate is more of a Sherlock game than anything (exageration). For survival genre, I don't find it too hardcore or repetitive. AND there is romance, oh the fluffliness!

There is credibility, in both (main) characters and the survival thing.

Since its a chinese novel, I'm often afraid of the repetiveness (sorry, don't know how it's spelled), but this novel... more>> is still fine scenario-wise. <<less

Sadly the translation at the beginning is not great. I am very grateful to the translator to have done it in the first place, however it is not smooth reading. You will find yourself a lot of times going back and trying to decipher what is going on.

The start is pretty slow. He goes back to one year before the apocalypse. Most novels only go back a few months and then speed through this "preparation" stage. However, in this story we have a whole year, and we are not speeding... more>> through at all. I am 20 chapters in and we are still about halfway through that "before" year. Lots of spiritual cultivation, and training, and buying, which are frankly not the most interesting.

The ML has shown up once, but due to the quality of the translation it was a bit hard to understand what was going on. You can kind of deduce things by the end, but mostly there are some big chunks where we are left wondering WTF just happened.

Also, not sure if it is due to the translation or to the original writer, but the MC has some inconsistencies when it comes to his feelings about the ML (before they meet in the second apocalypse). At some point he is saying that he just wants to take care of him and keep him safe and repay the debt he owes. But then he is saying how he misses him and has feelings for him, but then goes back to the original thought of just taking care of him. To be honest going by his past experiences it doesn't make sense for the MC to feel anything other than gratitude for the ML at this point, since their relationship was not particularly romantic in any way;
Spoiler

(originally the MC was forced to be in a relationship with ML by the ML)

[collapse]

I read another 20 chapters and I am still finding it not that interesting. Have dropped it now for a while. Thinking of going back at some point and trying to read things up to the start of the zombie apocalypse at least, but no rush in doing so. <<less

I previously read this novel but didn't finish it because all of the chapters weren't translated, I remember loving it then, so I decided to give it another go and really couldn't get the same feeling this time around. This is probably the first BL novel where I didn't like either the MC or the ML.

MC isn't likable at all and is contradictory at times. I think the MC of this novel could have been so much better, he was small minded, not even nice to the ML who... more>> he "loves", and when in the bedroom he put up too much of a fight. Either you love someone and want to do bedroom acrobatics with them or you don't. Why are so many Chinese novels focused on resisting and it always hurts so much after. I think if the MC was just a vindictive little jerk but is really hot with MC or vice a versa I would have liked him better. It was like the combination made it so there was nothing to like about him.

ML is too pushy for my liking, his teasing of the MC went over the top at times. There were only a few times I felt he actually loved the MC and wanted to care for him. What is wrong with a little romance to get your lover into bed? I know he was triad so isn't the gentle type, but he felt like a grade schooler teasing his crush on the playground.

I did like the part with the zombies towards the end, was a fresh take on zombie evolution. A couple of the zombies were really cute (liked them more than the MC and ML). The novel did abruptly end as other have said and the author seems to hate woman.

Translation was good, I really appreciate their hard work. I love Zombie BL/danmei novels so I'm always appreciative of the novels being translated <<less

the MC is arrogantly insufferable! He swears everyone owes him goodwill, even when he refuses to give so himself. I had to drop early on because it got ridiculous how he only saw the faults in others but not his own hard heart and meanness. I dont want to be mean, but it says a lot about his character if he could even scorn the man who died saving him and was apparently super good to him. Iregardless of love and family ties, he is hard hearted and selfish in... more>> both lives bto others besides the ML and people he finds useful to him. <<less

I understand that this is a yaoi novel and the author is probably a woman...

BUT....I also seriously think the author just hates (other) women.....

The number of gay guys they encounter is really a bit irrational (Don't get me wrong....I like gay guys...a lot!). This irrationality makes it very difficult to immerse and suspend your disbelief.

I DO LIKE that they do NOT try to force them into traditional 'female' modes.... so many authors try to make one guy (the bottom) more like a woman than a man..... which is annoying. But... more>> that doesn't happen here thank goodness.

Other than that... I really find some of the MC's actions to really stretch credulity..

Spoiler

I understand that his father is some sort of big shot politician, but... no matter how much his father 'spoils him' the amount of supplies and the amount of money he spends early on just makes me think that someone would have cut him off. If he had some sort of inheritance (or similar) then it might have made more sense... but he was scraping the stock market and didn't get as much as it seemed like he was spending. Perhaps the author just didn't realize the costs of some of the things he was purchasing?

[collapse]

At the moment I have only read to chapter 123, I would give it maybe 2.5 stars. It's fairly lackluster in comparison to some of the other post apocalypse second chance novels I've read. But in fairness, the publication date on this one is 2012, so they probably took some of these ideas and polished them. Of course, this one may have (probably did) taken from elsewhere as well but I don't know.

Also.....
Spoiler

So far they have not addressed the extent of his abilities... maybe later they do, but he never indicates whether he can teleport someone with him... (although obviously he could just put them in his space and then teleport...) and (They did address the question finally in chapter 123 of 133)

They never address how FAR he can teleport... he never eve seems to try to go far..

Or, could he teleport objects without having to go himself??

The MC is cold and cruel hearted at the beginning. With his memories of his past (the future events) he preps like a champ.

After the first 25ish chapters, he starts to change a little. It's a slow progression. His interactions with the ML and the couple of people in his inner circle, along with those that are in his group have his character evolve to take others into consideration of his future plans.

The ML calls him kitten in his head. Which to some people can be seen as annoying or... more>> degrading, but I think of it in the way it's described. The MC is cute and just very attractive. He also bristles up in defense and says harsh things but can be soft. Quite kitten like in behaviour. Cute, but has claws and sharp teeth.

The dynamic between the ML and MC goes between cute and affectionate, annoyance and teasing and fierce defense of eachother. They are their biggest weaknesses and strengths.

The MC had plans based on his memories for him and 3 other people. They were the only people he thought about and he has never been a big picture planner or leader. He hoarded anything he could think of as useful, but it doesn't mean he planned for every contingency. The ML on the other hand has been a leader of a large group for a long time and is used to making plans and coming up with alternatives. The MC defers to ML because 1. He doesn't really want to organise everyone and plan out all the details. He thinks about going from a to b without considering all the steps that are necessary. 2. Because ML is a good leader and 3. He finds it easier and more comfortable to rely on the ML.

As their relationship evolves, the MC takes the ML's thought and feelings into consideration because he cares enough to ask. Some times it seems like asking for permission, but it is the apocalypse and there are zombies. You can't really run off and do what you want, when you want when you have people you care about and who care about you. If it was just him or the original 3 he was planning for, he most likely wouldn't be like that because they could move about faster and would have less to consider.

I think the the main couple are both "alpha" types, it's just they are focused on their inverse scale. The weakness that they value and need to protect.

Also, the MC relies so much on his memories, atleast early on. However, things have been changing. With how he is different and some other things are different, the ML is someone that he can count on 100%. He is unwavering in his devotion the MC.

Is this groundbreaking? No. Is it a decent read? Yes.

If you like BL, zombies and apocalypse settings. Give this a shot.

I find the way that these people range between selfish, vicious and caring to be realistic. It can be seen in our history how some people band together and do whatever they can to help, even to the detriment of their own health and safety. Others are calculating and scam, steal and kill to get power. Others watch what happens and either run away or join the winning side. People either get involved and help, try to profit or watch from the sidelines while either mocking, sympathizing or just completely lost. The people that say something is bad or that they don't think something is right, but in the end, don't do anything about it. <<less

Up to chapter 29, it was really hard to read as translation seemed to be done haphazardly. I kept reading, skipping paragraphs to hurry pass those chapters. However, the novel began to be really s*upid: people just ladidadi awakening their abilities, unnatural interactions, and the unnecessary killings of innocent people just cause they upsetted the main characters. Are you serious? We’re just gonna kill everyone who’s annoying? Was the author trying to justify killing as being badass? What a s*upid novel.

Another Apocalypse one, and bro 9/10 I LOVE IT!!! Since it's a Rebirth from the apocalypse of course MC would not be some naive silly daisy, he came back and WOW, during the arc where he is preparing for the apocalypse, HE WAS SO BADASS, I finally experienced what is shocked silly! He puts no one in his eyes, and is respected and feared. OHHH THOSE SLAPS, my favourite part!

  • MC might be cold-blooded, cold-hearted and ruthless blah blah but he has heart and its in the right place.
  • But once the apocalypse start and in the middle of the story, MC will be the giant backer/Queen while ML will be looked as the Boss/King. I'm a bit dissatisfied cause MC will always be 1 level behind ML but okkkk that's fine since MC is highly important and more stronger spiritually, as readers we must know who holds the fist in the family, AND IT'S MC, but he's just lazy and leaves it ML hehehehe STILL THO, the 2nd last chapters when someone says the City Lord and his wife is back, still leaves a sour taste. But later something will erase that feeling and will leave you warm and smiling silly in the end. Heheheh aww I still feel warm while writing the review immediately after I finish it.
Once you love something you'll accept all their flaws right ? So READ IT READ IT 9/10 BROS

Too much death for me. And a callous regard toward life. Also I don't like how ML treats MC during adult times. With proper preparation, adult time should be fun for both parties, not something the bottom has to be afraid of. That and feminizing the bottom, like calling him wife, are two elements I never respect in a novel.

Sadly author-san had to cut short this story... lest the story would have been so oooooo great 😭

READ THIS YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

I really really really live the story to the point that I wasn't even able to sleep because I just can't put my phone down.

... more>> This story here is very action packed and really focused on the survival aspect of the story. From gathering supplies, leveling up, and fighting their way towards their survival. Everything was written great. I really had no problems at all.

There are definitely some plot holes... but I think that wasn't the intention of the author because it really felt like they were going somewhere with all the mysteries.... but alas from what I said earlier, the story had to be cut short 😭

MOVING ON TO THE CHARACTERS

The MC is very mischievous, deviant, and overbearing, but damn he's cute HAHAHAHA truly like a kitten as described by the ML. He stays true to his "young master" character. I quite loved it as it really adds a dramatic flair to everything. Bonus: HE'S SUCH A TSUNDERE. I always find it funny how he tries to "top" ML but always ends up being eaten 😂😂 poor MC.

The ML throughout the story for me is a very DOTING LOVER. The thoughts he has for the MC and they way he calls him "kitten" in his mind is seriously.. ughhh 😩 I'm jealous.

The side characters are not left out in this story tooo. I had fun reading their little scenes especially those that are close to the ML and MC. <<less

Read quite a bit of it. I got fed up with all the inconsistency, that and characters being flat with a bare few. I mean you mention having a younger brother why did you never get him or bring him up. I keep asking why, the main character doesn't develop its like he's in shock, he is dependent on ML since he was the only one to ever really love him. He realises some people aren't at fault for actions in previous life yet he holds it against people that... more>> they acted in grief. That his actions got people they loved killed.

Honestly he feels like he never truly confronted his death, mistakes, his life before.

To me it could have been more. <<less
