Good story, good writing, characters easy to tell apart
Interesting combo of guns and magic.
Skipped all the paragraphs detailing the guns because who cares, yep they kill stuff.

I liked the timeskip leading up to the sequel. I like that the writer wrote the story they envisioned without dragging it out.

Contrary to what some people that clearly DIDN'T read the story wrote, no, he wasn't trying to have s*x with the girls he views as his daughters and no he didn't have any real desire to.

And he didn't view any... more>> of the flat-chested girls in the story in a *exual way <<less

Sometimes you read something with positive reviews and you go "man what an amazing novel".

Sometimes you read it and go "my god this is a really boring cliche japanese novel about a guy using his knowledge of the modern world to use guns in a fantasy universe who has a harem of loli girls who love him because the author said so".

This happens to be the latter. I can stomach cliches, but the characters are so flat and boring. You have the MC, who has the personality of a piece... more>> of paper with a smiley face drawn on it that is taped to a gun, and you have the girls, who respectively can be summed up as "The fiesty one, the quiet one, and the flirty one"; if you've seen literally any harem anime ever you can get the rest from there; it's literally just the cliche archetypes. The only interesting person is Wight, the MC's strategist and troop commander. I'd much rather read a novel about him.

To make it worse, the MC is practically an unashamed pedofiliac in terms of his attitude, though no lines are crossed. I can get writing a loli harem; they are popular with some groups. But to do that you either need to have the MC disinterested in them, or you need to have them grow up over the course of the story so the MC can grow to love them. Instead the MC is constantly going over how cute they are and how he likes the feel of their skin while he sleeps in the same bed with him and it's phrased like it's supposed to be cute, but they literally give the girls descriptions of "looks like early teens", "looks like a small child" and "looks like 14", none of which are legal anywhere, including Japan, so this just gets creepy.

If you don't like OP protagonists, don't read this. If you do, there are better OP characters in other books to read. If you don't like harem, don't read this. If you do, still don't; there are better harem books to read. If you dislike lolis, don't read this. If you like lolis, you are weird, but still don't read this; there are still better books for that. As a person who likes cheat protagonists and harem novels, this was a massive failure. It is so cliche you'll simply feel like you are rereading older novels, except they've dropped in quality.

2 Stars, and only that because I like Wight's character and the action wasn't terrible. <<less

I just finished reading this WN (raw, translated by google) a moment ago and I was like “ WTF, the true story is just start here but the author END it”

But nope, after carefully see through his page I found the continuation of it with different name.

The story end at the first year time with MC and friends graduating from being new demon lord, the last moment of one of the oldest demon lord and the start of Evening party.

After finish this review I will start reading the next episode... more>> of this novel (yeah, with google translation)

For me, this WN is worth 5 stars. Well, I can’t say that it differ much from others Fantasy demon lord, dungeon master, isekai out there. I didn’t pay much attention about its good or bad point either. But at least I can say that I didn’t lose interest even after reading this WN for several day until its last chapter and I think my time worth it. <<less

Decent novel but I'm going to need to see more volumes to make a final decision on rating. The story is a standard isekai protagonist who becomes a demon lord that manages a dungeon. Here's a list of pros and cons when compared to the standard:

Pros

  1. The story takes its time developing without rushing any particular aspect. In fact, in the first volume, MC never even gets to construct his dungeon as the world is introduced and mechanics explained.
  2. There's a certain degree of mystery that makes things somewhat more interesting than usual, such as the logic behind the world's structure as well the MC's identity.
  3. There's a bit of kingdom development in the story as MC constructs a town outside of his usual dungeon, which is more than what the typical dungeon story offers.
Cons

  1. The story violates one of my huge taboos in fantasy writing, which is introducing modern weaponry such as guns. Their use makes battles simply uninteresting as there is really no room for strategy or suspense when you have bows and arrows up against machine guns. I will maintain the rating of this story at 3 stars unless the author somehow introduces credible opponents in future volumes.
  2. Some aspects of the world seem imbalanced. For example, the extreme economic power demon lords can wield from creating free stuff seems way overpowered, so much so that it isn't really explained why none of them have taken over the world.

The Good:

The medal systems sounds like an interesting concept. The pacing is pretty quick, vol 5 and ... more>>
Spoiler

wife is here

[collapse]

The Bad:

The whole DILF situation with him pretending to be a dad and it just leave a yucky taste in my mouth seeing the author try so hard with her fetish of father-daughter relationship and even till vol 7, I still dont get why she just doesnt write a doujin instead, Throughout the story, it is painfully obvious what her fetish is how much she wants a "Yes Daddy" situation.

I dont even know why am I still reading this, I guess aside from Gun.

But really, there are so many other stories that are much better.
You want a daddy MC: Death March

Modern weapons in isekai world? There are so many of them from Arifureta to Modern Weapons Cheat in Another World and etc

Dungeon? Well, there is dungeon defense, lazy dungeon master just to name a few.

I will probably push myself to read till vol 8 prologue before stopping since I have gotten this far. <<less

Hmm, well, it was an enjoyable read. Good quality translation and a story that is interesting enough to keep you reading even with all of its faults. I do feel that it's weird how so many could possibly give it 5/5 stars with all the glaring faults, but a 4/5 is possible, although I would put it around 3 or 3.5/5. A bit above average, but nothing that special. The characters were pleasant and amusing and I really liked all of the good guys in this story. The developments were... more>> intriguing. It's totally worth reading if you want to kill some time, not the best but undoubtedly a good choice.

About the bad parts that really stuck out... Yeah. There's 2 things that made me extremely annoyed again and again amongst many more minor things that doesn't matter that much. The first one is the issue of redundant information. The author often writes his chapters as if it's some kind of a freaking fact booklet about weapons or any other thing that happens. He goes into excruciating detail concerning just about everything. EXACTLY what happens, exactly what she or he does, why they do that, what they think, why this can happen, how these powers work etc along with a lot of repetitions of stuff he had previously mentioned, making us read the same thing twice, thrice or more. This is not that bad when it comes to the fantasy aspects, the stuff that is somewhat interesting and relevant, like how this magic works and why this or that is good when it comes to that spell (even though the detailed information is often too much).

The biggest issue is the gun trivia, both made up bullsh*t and true copy-pasted information from wikipedia or something. There's SO FCKING MUCH worthless gun trivia. Exact velocity, the capacity of the mags, the length of the gun, which one it is from the real world, the shots per minute along with other crap... Hell, the author once went out of his way and used two paragraphs to describe that full auto mode fires many successive bullets automatically when pressing down the trigger and semi-auto just fires one but reloads the bullet automatically along with how everything else works and weird made up stuff to make the weapons better (not as if it matters that much anyway, this author decided that the attack power should increase the damage from bullets too)... These long in-depth explanations breaks any immersion whatsoever when reading this novel and are just a pain in the ass. Not even once have I seen any of this trivia being relevant to the story in any way whatsoever. Just saying that it shoots bullets that are faster, bigger or stronger or whatever would be enough, no need for redundant information. Information is fine, but not when it becomes a weapon textbook instead of a novel, it makes me wonder if the author just does it to get more chapters out by filling them with such crap instead of actually moving the plot forward.

That's okay though, you can skip most of it if you want to. Then, on to the second thing that really bothers me, that is their relationships. This novel is extremely special when it comes to this and the author isn't really right in the head for writing it like this, it has made me extremely confused, irritated and just plain out annoyed. You see, the author refuses to go for the real romance. Let's ignore all the outside guys, like other demon lords, they're not that important. But when it comes to his subordinates, he has 3 "covenant monsters" which are his most powerful ones that share his powers and all stuff like that. These three are all superbly cute girls, 2 lolis (dwarf and fox) and one oppai loli (elf). Now, for some reason or another the author decided that "HEY, let's go for a lolicon in*est story" and thenceforth the MC has always referred to them as his "daughters" and the two normal lolis refer to him as "Father". So, they built some kind of a pseudo-family relationship where, although they're all born at around the same time with similar knowledge, the demon lord MC is the father and they're his daughters.

Now, this is all well and good, I can accept that a MC doesn't get laid and just view the girls in his "harem" as daughters, but the thing is that it's not that simple because the author clearly has some in*est tendencies. The MC repeatedly calls them daughters and even said and thought stuff like he would never lay his hands on them (in a s*xual way). However, several times we get to see how he clearly views them in a s*xual way. He keeps hugging them, caressing their hair and enjoys having their bodies against his, often thinking stuff like how it feels so good (clearly s*xual pleasure) to have their soft, good smelling bodies rubbing against him. He also mentioned that he had to stop at one time in the bath because he was about to get a boner and how he told the elf to stop pushing her b**bs against his back because he wouldn't be able to hold himself back. That's a great father, right? Now then, as for the daughters, there's no way in hell they view him as merely a father. They're totally zooming in on him like female predators out for some D (well, at least for a romantic relationship). They're rubbing against him all the time, sticking really close, going for the arm between b**bs approach, approaching him while naked in the bath, enjoying being hugged really much and wants to have their hair caressed all the time, showing jealous feelings all the time for anyone that might "steal him away"... The elf "daughter" literally invited him to bed and these people have pretty much all one time or another mentioned how only the MC could do stuff like fondling their bodies or doing naughty stuff in different circumstances...

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's not something a daughter would ever do, they clearly don't have any intention whatsoever to approach him as merely a father, yet the author keeps making them refer to him as father and him to refer to them as daughters, it feels very forced and unrealistic, it's just not done well. So the author is clearly planning on having them become lovers later on but likes the idea of daughterXfather relationships, not my favorite but I guess it's okay. I just wish he'd (the author) make it clear what the characters think and what he is planning. Either go right on with the "they're my daughters but I want to do naughty stuff with them too" or take the "they're only my daughters, nothing more nothing less" or you can go for the "Pure romantic love and let's do away with this daughter in*est crap"... Don't hover between everything without making it clear... Right now it's like "I think of them as real daughters and I don't want to do naughty stuff with them yet I somehow get turned on by them and enjoy deriving s*xual pleasure from being very close to them, but no, I'm the greatest father in the world and wouldn't touch them, however, I am touching them anyway, because fck logic". The daughters are a bit better since they seem to be more sure of what they want, a daughter+lover relationship, forbidden but sweet.

But that I can keep reading this and enjoying it despite his obnoxious writing style when it comes to certain things is pretty amazing. Worth a read any day. Just go in with the knowledge of the cons above and you will be able to read it with much joy while hopefully not being as confused and annoyed as I was when I had to try and understand what the fck the author was thinking about. <<less

So far I am loving this series but I feel that it is still in its developmental or set up stage. Main character is a little generic but nothing too offensive. The supporting cast is what I enjoy most about this series. All the characters from the heroines to the nameless characters seem to have so much personality to them.

Honestly what I am reminded most of by this series is Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken. With how laid back the MC is and how even minions are given names and... more>> personalities. Heck, even one of the skeletons have a proper name.

Anyways, as I said this series is still getting started so nothing really major has happened. I wont say its slow but its not exactly action packed either. But if you want something thats pretty fun and is setting up for a whole lot of fun then I would definitely give this a read. <<less

I just focus on story flow so the first few volumes are very enjoyable and worth 5 stars from my cheap opinion.

Author himself doesn't really know anything about guns at all despite spending so many paragraph on them.
Spoiler

He used a whole paragraph to say HK416 is recoil operated which is funny, his choice of guns beside the first two is just what you can find in game and not anywhere near ideal choices. And why just don't make golems like a tank and why make it human shape carry guns by hands?

[collapse]

These are trivial and don't degrade story that much, but in latter volume the story doesn't go anywhere, each of volume 7-10 can be shorten to one paragraph and you can still understand everything in the next volume.

This is what happened in volume 10 and is the reason I change from 5 stars to 3

Spoiler

MC has been warned about a curtain ability he has that it dangerous. In a curtain experimental event he know something is wrong but decide to keep going just for efficientcy which is by no mean efficient if he break down. And he did.

This event is just so author can waste an entire chapter for just, I apologize (s) + don't do it again (s) + but (s) + please don't push yourself (s). Which is too pointless and juat serve for annoying the reader.

[collapse]

Author just put something like that lately just so there'll be more pages in book, and MC became more and more s*upid as the story progress.

Super slow paced at first. 3 paragraphs just for explaining the gun and how this gun really suits the girl? I skipped a lot of paragraphs in some chapters, so many unnecessary and repeated details. But on later chapters, the explanations about the guns and how the character use it became shorter.

One thing that irritates me is that he never gets angry with his monsters even though they're sometimes unreasonable and acting like a spoiled brat and he never discipline them when they're wrong on their judgements and make mistakes.... more>> He treats his monsters like his own daughters, I get it, but even a parent would get angry and discipline their child if they're acting like a spoiled brat and in the wrong. That's why I especially dislike Kuina and Fel. I don't like Tiro having human transformation skill because I get the feeling she'll act more spoiled and sly more than Kuina in the future chapters. Lol. It's better if she's just a dog and no other forms, she's still cute that way. But I like the frank Ruhe and Marcho, especially Ruhe, she's always telling the damned demon lord that he's a softy and he should be stricter, but that sh*t don't listen. Haha.

I also don't like how the monsters he makes are all girls except Duke. Wtf? Yeah I know the story's on harem category but that's just too much. Maybe he can have 3 members of his harem from his monsters and the others are demon lords, and some monsters from other demon lords, and some humans or something? Bah. Whatever. I just think it's absurd that every humanoid monsters he makes are damn girls.

But I like kingdom building and OP protagonists. And the good translation, so still 4 stars. <<less

The story is decent but the forced loli harem is a great minus; it's a sign the the author/ story has nothing else to offer.

This just an absolute rip off of Dungeon Defense. It's more like a downgraded version of it with absolutely braindead japanese cliches and garbage story progress. Well, to be completely honest it started well and interesting but got ruined at the later chapters just like the most of the Japanese novels on this side of the internet. I mean there is an endless potential to how the story can progress in an interesting direction but Noooooo, the author has to make MC too powerful and give him a lot of... more>> great abilities that he will use in the s*upidest ways possible. And unfortunately that's the least annoying thing about this novel. (Looking at you fox girl) <<less

Rating: 3.5-4, Translation: no problems
[Rating: 5 = almost all readers may enjoy. 4 = large majority of readers may enjoy. 3 = 50% of readers may enjoy. 2 = niche audience may enjoy. 1 = portion of niche audience may enjoy.]

Summary: Demon kings build dungeons and create monsters that challenge adventurers and feed off their emotions. One newly born demon king decides to do things differently and build a city and feed off emotions of residents and visitors. He also has some interesting abilities and seems to have knowledge... more>> about modern firearms.

This is one of those stories where the MC decides to do things differently from the norm. Even though MC has some advantages over other adversaries, he has to progress and faces some challenge. He learns and develops his own style. Uses strategy and tactics to best use his abilities.

Some problems: the harem isn't really a harem, mostly followers that are treated like family. There are plenty of tropes. The author often repeats paragraphs of explanations, even within the same volume. The author makes the MC's origin unclear, making it uncertain if this is actually isekai vs fantasy. There are some cheesy dialogue, like any LN/WN.

This series has a variety of minor issues, but for the most part is a good read. Has lots of tropes, but at least the MC does some interesting things with his abilities. Translation is excellent. I think isekai readers and many of non-isekai readers will enjoy. <<less

Interesting concept and a good beginning but that's all...

The fact that demon lords have different power each and create their own unique monsters is really interesting but the power of the MC is just too OP... He can create whatever he wants and since he has knowledge of firearms, he is way too powerful compared to the others (when you see Gatling gun vs monsters, it's just too one sided)... The mix between firearms and magic is not good in this novel since firearms overshadows completely the use of... more>> magic and so the unique monsters of the MC don't seem unique anymore since it would be the same if they were replaced by other monsters and since they don't use their own unique magic skills and rely on guns... Also since the MC can create S rank monsters infinitely it is totally a waste of unused S rank abilities... It seems that the author is shouting "MODERN FIREARMS ARE THE BEST!!!! GUNS ARE THE BEST!!! BOMBS ARE THE BEST!!! TECHNOLOGY ARE THE BEST!!!" In every f*cking chapter...

The MC decides to create a town instead of a dungeon and finishes its construction in 1 week and alone, strangely enough people don't get freaked out when they see a town appearing in the middle of nowhere in this short period of time that easily...

One of the things that I can't understand is the weird fetish of the author: the MC's female monsters all love him romantically despite considering him as their father and of all the romantic interests, MC just develops feelings for his "parent" demon lord... sigh, do you get what I mean?

Spoiler

Lastly, one of my ex-favorite characters, the undead wight, I really liked him because he was a B rank monster under the command of MC instead of an S rank and even if he wasn't powerful enough, he can think of a lot of strategies and he overwhelmed his opponent with his brain instead, and that made him a wonderful character. But at some point he just "evolves" into an S rank monster and he becomes too OP in my opinion, it seems that he can just beat every opponent since he is clever AND powerful... that just destroys all his charms...

ok im done and dropping this. Great concept, Poor execution. Thru-out the whole story theres this weird s*xual tension between EVERY FEMALE CHARACTER. But its never seems to actually get that far forcing the story into this awkward in-between stage, disappointing not only those who came nasty (because their never gonna get it) but those who came for a proper dungeon/city building story. (The s*xual tension ruins the personalities for most of the female characters)

dont even get me started on the LAZY story telling! Its like this author fails... more>> to grasp to concept of suspense, tension (story wise, not that s*xual bullshit), and risks. The only mystery we are given, that actually makes me want to read the story are hidden weapons NOT story related mysteries WEAPONS! I think the only thing that I was actually curious about is pretty much answered by volume 2 or 3.
Spoiler

he wants to know if hes a reincarnated person or just a dude with randomly inserted memories, apparently its the latter and the creator could have been lying but I could care less because I was given no other clues to suggesting otherwise, pretty much ending the only lore related mystery I cared about.

[collapse]

Spoiler

so first his "children" seem all fine and everything. He seems to truly care for them as if they were his kids but by volume 5 they seem to all want to f*ck him and it degrades the story from a city building one to a "how do I avoid these situations" one. And its super annoying. His ally also is falling in love with him but hes like "f*ck that!" and then hes falls in love with his "parent". Starting to see a pattern? Yeah so do I and I think the author has some sort of family fetish.

oh then we got all these random story elements that keep being added without properly building on to each other, and rather then giving a sense of accomplishment. It feels more like the author just making him more and more OP for no reason and no explanation. In fact the power scaling of this whole story is off.

and then we got the over explanation. Seems contradictory to what I said in the last paragraph, but in the last one I was talking about how the story doesn't justify itself lore wise. For example why hes the only one who can make S class monsters or why doesn't anyone know the power of the creation medals. The over explanation im talking about here is stats wise. In fact they tend to repeat the same thing so many times its makes feel like im watching yu gi oh. "You see, the reason I cant use these hippogyths in the next war is because they can only 500 kilograms wheres as the darkness dragons can carry 10 times that amount." "the adult form of kuina muiltplys her stats several times over explanting why she can perform this feat that was once impossible" honestly overbearingness of the story makes the story feel like it was meant for children until you get to the s*xual tension that is.

awful, the worst novel i've read so far I think. No doubt about it, even 2* rated novels are better; no clue how this stinking pile of sh*t is 3.9/5.

First off the MC is a straight up pe*ophile with an in*est fetish. There's no excuse, there are no girls that look 12 but are actually 5000 yr old vampires, they legit have the mental capacity of little girls and this dude is diddling them in bed.

Second, there is no thought process behind MCs actions, everything happens with no setup and... more>> only works because the writers says so. It's like saying 2+2=6, you know that's not true but someone comes and insists that it is, and there's nothing you can do about it. All novel sh*t happens that makes absolutely no sense, every enemy is severely braindamaged and sadly the MC is even more so. The guy can't even make use of his own abilities properly, I get annoyed just by remembering some of the sh*t MC did; abhorrent character writing.

Third, the power scaling.. Or lack thereof. S/A/B/C/D ranks of the monsters don't matter at all, ofcourse the virg*n MC always spawns S ranks but again, IT DOESN'T MATTER. The enemies will always have the stronger one (not in rank, just plot armor), A ranks of enemies beat up MCs S ranks every single time. MCs inconsistent use of his ability also doesn't help, he's supposed to be able to create 'anything' from his memories; things that weigh more cost more mana (ofcourse this gets completely ignored later on, this only matters in the first few chapters of the very first volume), he very obviously has memories of pretty much everything from modern age but.. He refuses to use it.

Forth, how useless the MC is. Imagine my suprise reading this after seeing the 'OP Protagonist tag' and then finding out that this guy does NOTHING all novel; quite literally too, he literally does nothing. He also mentions how he won't let any of his monsters die, he will protect them at all costs but next chapter he sends the 12 yr old girls in battle only for them to barely survive while he just stands there sucking his own c*ck; afterwards he strokes their hair a bit and there it's all done.. In his mind he protected them. Also he is the biggest herbivore jp beta MC i've seen so far, he has no balls at all. YIKES.

Tons more sh*t to say but it's not worth it, absolutely do not read this. There are novels that are shittier than this yes but this is not only sh*t but annoying to read, normal sh*t novels are just shit, but this one just makes you want to grab the f*cker who wrote it and punch all his teeth out. <<less

interesting novel, a lot of things to understand that explains his powers and knowledge,

Spoiler

This is earth but it's years into the future possibly thousands, and his knowledge about guns and technology is because when he was born, he was born from the story's version of the akashic records and so he's not reincarnated but rather born with knowledge.

one thing I didn't like is that he has the ability to imp**gnate and because demon lords aren't able to reproduce, he has the most unique ability amongst demon lords, but he doesn't get anyone pregnant which makes the ability useless. It's mentioned several times throughout the novel that he has that ability but always brushes it off saying he doesn't have anyone he can imp**gnate even though there are multiple women who showed that they want to bear his children.

All in all, I find this series entertaining. Would I call it a masterpiece? No, but I care more about whether I find a story interesting rather than if it’s high quality literature.

Some good points: characters are cute, the storyline isn’t too unbelievable (given some suspension of disbelief), and badass one-sided fight scenes.

Some bad points: description of abilities and guns become repetitive, even as a gun-loving American it can get annoying. Also, there is absolutely no loss for MC. When fighting in wars, his concern isn’t whether he will beat... more>> his enemy, but if he can do so without casualties (WHICH HE ALWAYS DOES). Every character gives in to MC and does what he says, having no thought of their own besides helping MC.

tl;dr: it’s interesting, and I’ve enjoyed reading it, but don’t go in expecting a masterpiece. <<less

Beginning was around 4. Interesting fast paced plot, pretty acceptable MC. Plenty of spicy momemts. And there is some development of peronalitiesp.

But lately descriptions and repeating of skills replaced plot. MC stopped changing and his behavior became quite linear and childish. Now it's 2

Interesting enough so far, but be warned:

    • OP Gary Stu (for no reason) thing. Reincarnator? Transmigrator? It's a secret!
    • Infodump as exposition for the first 7+ chapters. (Wanna-to be game designer maybe?)
    • 'demon' is used a bit ambiguously to refer to a wide range of creatures (maybe?)
    • Another 'demons are nice people' (despite being killer Dungeon Masters) thing.
    • Spoiler
        • Immediate, out-of-context 'moe loli' bs.
        • Right into 'modern weapons & tech in a fantasy setting' bs.

So- it's just your average, otaku-culture, lazy writing LN.

All that said, it's too early to say bad/good- I'm sticking with it so far, so I'll update later.

Also, another reviewer says 'Amnesia tag for this novel is false'- which is drawn from a thing one 'less than fully trustworthy' character says to the MC. I don't think it's so easy to take it at face value for many reasons- but ultimately it's a 'future fork', where the author can easily decide either way later, since there's not much too concrete either way so far.

In other words I'd leave the tag for now- it explains how things seem- even if eventually proven inaccurate.
