When dealing with an MC who knows more than the leading figure, sometimes the story gets off the track which is not good. It doesn't have this flow.

Nicely made the MC know his standing in front of real power. Even if MC know what is power difference is between him and his enemy, he doesn't forgot to be in reality about his present.

Although the plot is same that MC being recognize by a powerful figure. The figure help even if it means offending someone with power. This is being lucky.

Solid xianxia novel well written and what you would expect but lacks in uniqueness find it a bit odd that a million years of knowledge but doesnt have a op skill to scale with him meanwhile has literally every pill recipe known in his memory

first time writing a review.. For prizes ofcourse.. But here is my pitch..

its actually good. I mean, I almost read all the novel at wuxiaworld and TNC at volare; you should know that 1, 2 or more novels have similarity. You cant deny that. But SoTR is quite good coz • its start from the bottom rank of cultivation • not overly arrogant bastard • and last but not the least; etvo has a nice voice ♥_♥.

Humour, face slapping, action, politics, old man harems (yes, you read that correctly), use of etvo's (translator) accounting knowledge to get the pill markets business terminology correct, Sovereign of the Three Realms really has it all!

The beginning is hilarious, and whilst the toilet humour is not always there, it definitely resurfaces when the dragon crystals (better known as poop) appear XD One of the most satisfying parts of this story are the face slapping scenes, when Jiang Chen will use words to run circles around people, elders, sect masters basically... more>> anyone who annoys him with an opposing view.

As the novel progresses, the villains actually become more interesting, knowing when to retreat to preserve their lives, and even having identities that JC can't just magically see through. Additionally, we find out that even thought this is a "lower realm", things are not as simple as they first seemed!

All in all, this is an excellent novel. It has a great story, the translation quality is impeccable, and I just can't allow myself to miss an update! XD <<less

I have been reading this series for about a year or so now, and I think this series is worth a read. The MC, in my opinion, is likable, he isn't a pushover nor is he a battle-crazy. The series is not overly fan-servicey, what I mean by that is, the MC does not really have a harem. He sticks with a monogamous mindset, although he does tease a few female characters in the beginning. There is also a goal that is not too vague but is still in the... more>> back of your mind when you read this series, and the goal is something of a mystery that the reader wants to know as well. If someone were to read this, I would suggest reading it in groups rather than chapter by chapter as some characters can be forgettable. <<less

There are some really good Pros and really bad Cons. The really good pros keep you on the edge of your seat. You can't wait until the next chapter comes out and you see what happens next. The really bad cons make you consider dropping the novel altogether. But then you think of the pros and march on.

Pros:

  • Reincarnation - It's not a novel idea, but it's done fairly well. Jiang Chen has strong book knowledge and this is a story of him developing his technical know-how.
  • As*xual - JC's not a eunuch but the story doesn't revolve around his intimate life. JC's only harem is full of old men. No really, he attracts old men at 3x the rate he attracts young women.
  • Likability - JC's an upstanding character who you can't help but like.
It's hard to put a word on what makes this novel enjoyable. And that's what makes good stories. Multiple good elements joining together to create a great story.

Cons:

  • Slow - Some chapters can be cut into halves or more with the same content.
  • Bad Villains - Many things can make a bad villain. Some of the villains in this story have poor motivation, as in they have no reason to be evil except to be a villain. Some villains take really dumb actions.
  • Contrived - This is the really bad con. There are story elements that are 200% contrived. Specifically, at one point in the story, a really strong, really bad character came in and instead of instantly destroying everyone in a single hit... he suggested a competition between his subordinates and our lovely hero Jiang Chen. What?
Overall I like SoTR. I look forward to reading it every single day.

SOTR is very common type of novel when it comes to cultivation, pill forging. This is where everything else changes the novel has much character development even tho jiang chen was reincarnated with vast amount of knowledge he still shows much growth as a person and realizes his faults. He brings unique flavor to the genre with each encounter he gains things other novels fail to do that is relationship building, which is something most novels don't do. Most novel just have a main character beating people up and building... more>> a harem after smashing another low level antagonist. <<less

While being one of many similar types of novels, the way jiang chen is handled is quite interesting. We've got solid foundations from the get go and nowhere near as much impulse and bs luck that seems to be common in novels of these sorts. Adding onto that impulsive point it's refreshing where things are actually planned out and not left to luck, hopefully it continues to be good, and hopefully have some sort of continuing good story and not flounder off as most of these novels tend to do.

First of all I gotta get this out. I get the feeling that etvolare treats us readers like a bunch of children awaiting for her to grace us with sweets (in the form of chapters). I would find it amusing that every time a new chapter would be posted I would find etvo's notes that seems to say "Hello children! You're fairy god mother has arrived! Here to save you from boredom and the feeling of nothingness that weighs deep in your soul!".

All in all I'd like to thank etvo... more>> and her staff for such a wonderful job. Now that's off my chest, here's my take on SOTR.

I find SOTR quite unique. Unlike most novels where the MCs are mostly overly arrogant to the point of being conceited, I can see that Jiang Chen's character was planned perfectly without a flaw. He is overbearing but not excessively, confident in a way that won't make feel inferior, and knowledgeable yet stays humble. This novel really struck me deep because of this valiant fathers just like how ISSTH did.

Also the characters in this story are well-planned giving this novel a vivid image of what it really is. Also the foreshadowing of his past is great and well thought out. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next few chapters but I'm sure it would be exciting. Though there are dull chapters, we can't avoid that since the author isn't an all powerful being, he is still doing his best.

Anyway, this is all I can say, hope that you won't get tired of us and that you'd keep bringing us happiness Fairy God Mother Etvo. My regards to you and your staff, have a wonderful day. <<less

Hey!

I host the podcast The Immortal Index! The timing couldn't have been better as I just did a chapter 1 reading of Etvolare's translation of Sovereign Of The Three Realms to help promote it as it's a favorite on my list right now.

It's interesting because I read 8-12 novels at any given time, that SOTR still manages to have a different 'flavor' of sorts. So far, it's not the best novel when it comes to fights or overarching storylines- but the cleverness of the breadcrumbs and how they cause changes... more>> later and how it's used to the MC's advantage through non-obvious and/or political ways makes it different enough that I enjoy reading it in large swaths.

It's interesting that the author starts with such a concept of hijinx like a fart, but the novel is not as funny as the synopsis would lead you to believe. It has it's moments, but it's more serious than slapstick as the first 2 chapters would have you think.

It has similarities with Stellar Transformations, Rebirth Of the Thief, and Against the Gods in various different ways; but manages to stay more analytical than them the majority of the time.

All in all, I like what I've read so far. And if so far is 1000 chapters in; hopefully I'll like what I'll read till the end. <<less

This is my first review so it might be a little sloppy but I'll try my best anyways.

I've been following this since etvolare and the team started translating it. The description of the novel that they wrote got me super intrigued. But, that's about the only reason that I still read it. It's almost like the annoying child I don't have.

The story is super repetitive and almost predictable.
MC is reborn with the knowledge of his past being but always mentions about how his body had no talent, yet can... more>> keep up with every other cultivator.

Sometimes knowledge just shouldn't be enough.
Think of it like this. Imagine being born with the knowledge of a NBA player but your new body only reaches a max height of 5'5. Yes, you may become really good but you can really only go so far. Now it's unfair to compare cultivating to sports so let's talk about the other annoying parts about the novel.

Jiang Chen always talks about having knowledge about his old self and this new realm is so ordinary yet

Spoiler

somehow he comes across the most OP weapons, tools, etc. For example, the Bewitching Lotus of Fire and Ice. It's on the list for one of the most divine plants yet appears in an ordinary realm?

[collapse]

The minor inconsistencies that show up throughout the novel just irk me yet I can't seem to hate it that much.

The only reason I gave it a 3/5 is because I love the consistency translation and the fact that the beginning was good. <<less

SOTR started strong with MC being super OP by having super OP knowledge. The first few hundred chapters were pretty good with the conflicts feeling relatively fresh. It was only until I reached a certain part of the story that many agreed was the weak point. The tournament arc. Usually tournament arcs can be the best of a respective novel, but I felt that the author seriously missed out on the opportunity by focusing on the wrong details and making the whole affair a repetitive thing. If I were to... more>> compare this to a novel who did the OP all-knowing MC, it would be Emperors Domination, where a small time was spent on the MC actually building his power, but when they did it the MC always found a way to completely destroy his opponents, building an actual reputation that most people in the world would respect. Overall, I do still enjoy this novel, although it had some missteps. <<less

It's very similar to every other cultivation novel out there but despite that I still love it. The very fact I've read up to chapter 1001 is proof of that.

The main character is arrogant, calm, and calculating, almost like a certain MC calculating with their fingers...
Unlike the MC in ED he doesn't massacre every enemy he comes across, so that's a plus. The cultivation system isn't entirely original, but not a total steal from other novels. The side characters don't hang around and usually disappear into the wind unless... more>> they have a future arc involving them.
A pattern I've seen in this novel is that when the Jiang Chen needs something immediately or he's in complete and utter danger, something will swoop in and help him. This can be tedious but I can look past it.

The villains are kinda... meh. I always know the MC will kick their ass so they don't really come off as villains, but instead a thug who tries to rob a martial arts master. The world as I see in this novel has many branches.

There's the heavenly plane>sub realms (Where Jiang Chen is) >Secret Realms (Where he trains) > More sub Realms. I'm not entirely sure about the world, so take this part with a grain of salt.

Final result, it can be tedious, annoying and frustrating. But I still enjoy it. <<less

I see a lot of people tr*shing this novel for it's somewhat slow-ish pace, but personally I still feel that it's way better than series like ATG when it comes to repetitiveness and likeable MALE characters. Comparing the harem factor to MGA, the main character definitely still has more than 3-4 females interested in him romantically, but I'm pretty sure that at this point (chapter 746) only one female will really be able to make him truly love her. In that sense, there is less harem and more of a... more>> slow background romance going on. As for the main character himself, he uses his intelligence and prior knowledge efficiently in most of his fights. He's quite impressive in this aspect compared to other series.

If I had to pick something I don't like about this novel, it would be the random and somewhat frequent fortuitous encounters he has. But I can accept that, what story doesn't give the MC some incredible luck? <<less

One of the better novels of this genre out there. If you like knowledgeable protagonists, beast companions, alchemy and tournaments this is for you. With regards to the main character he kind of reminds me of nie li from tdg except he doesn't have a major foe and just wants to become strong since he couldn't do so before. But the story is pretty good and it seems like the author has plans for the future so I would highly recommend it.

This novel sticks to several Xuanhuan tropes; Antagonists are terribly written and endlessly appear one after the other to get beat down or killed when their personalities or station would indicate that they should be more intelligent or cautious, women are weak but peerless beauties who fall madly in love with the MC after he saves and/or cures them or their relative, reincarnation with a dash of mysterious circumstance, power creep with an endless supply of forgotten supporting characters, coincidental tournaments, smelting trials, and opportunities that appear one after the... more>> other that allow for those of MC's age and slightly older to determine the honor and wealth of the major powers of the region, MC has two uber cheats from his reincarnation that solve every problem that could ever occur and endlessly make him stronger at a pace that outstrips his peers to name a few. (Millions of years of knowledge from being the son of the Heavenly Emperor whilst somehow being unable to cultivate for plot reasons and The Magical Seal of Fatherly Affection planted within him before his reincarnation which helps him whilst conveniently supplying endless plot developments as he reaches higher levels of strength) For someone who is millions of years wise, the MC makes a lot of questionable decisions, as if he were a teenager instead of the trainer and teacher of countless powerhouses. Most all of the CN web novels are at this level or below. There are worse and better series to read. With that said, the MC and few recurring characters mature eventually, the friendship and love aspects are slow but steady to progress, the novel makes an effort to foreshadow important events, and mysteries of his past life and their relation to his present plane are interesting enough to set it just above most other novels with the same problems. <<less

It started out well and was a fun interesting read, but it's just been dragging on lately. I'm not sure how long I'll keep reading at this point.
Spoiler

The chapters with the first fight with a sect happens is where I started dreading reading this. It just seemed like an unnecessary fight for the story. And the elder that saves him, I don't know what he's waiting for. I thought he was going to finally contact after the fight but he just doesn't for some reason.

The story is okay, it seems very "fast paced" and explained/written poorly at the beginning but later becomes interesting, by later I mean like chapter 90s and on wards. It is interesting enough to keep reading, not interesting enough to recommend. Maybe in the future it will be worth reading. The potential is still there as long as you get pass 90 or so chapters.

The MC is toooo "perfect", there is no problem he cant solve and the romance is nothing but a flick of a spark. To MC is a robot to put it short. The story is cool but gets boring later do to the MC being to perfect. Its like playing a game on god mode, there isn't no risk and when there is someone or thing comes in and 1 shots it for him.
