- Diablo 2
I got into this novel mainly because Diablo 2 is one of my all time favourite game. But the disappointment I had once I continued reading was quite immense. If you're an avid fan of D2, keep your expectations for it at a low level. The D2 backdrop works in a way where the MC could "level up" by playing a realistic game of D2, so naturally he has to go through all 5 acts with the playable classes. I noticed a problem during Act 1, the author gives interesting expositions to the lore of the Diablo world, but MANY things were untouched. Special monsters, items, equipments, bosses and more. I had my concerns about future Acts since the more the MC ventures through D2, the more things the author leaves out. And my concerns proved to be correct. Once Act 2 hits, almost every single thing is glossed out. It actually feels more like a run through of dungeons to dungeons, with the charm of the D2 backdrop disappearing. The lore completely disappears. Special monsters are almost completely non-existent. Items and equipment are not even mentioned other than the top tier set items used by different classes. "Bosses" are introduced with zero expositions, and destroyed in less than 1 page. Did the author play the same game? Or did he play a pirated knock-off Chinese version of "Diablo 2"? I'll also mention the fact that MC only uses Barbarian mode 90% of the time throughout the novel. Paladin to heal and show off. Assassin to create traps and create cultivation methods. Druid for some recon hawks and wolves. Amazon to only shoot some arrows and throw javelins. Necromancer died of old age somewhere on the street curb and what the f*ck is Sorceress?? I'll say it again, keep your expectations for D2 in check. Treat it as an extra to the novel, and you'll be fine.-
- Character development/Romance & harem
I'm not surprised at this. In fact anybody shouldn't. If you've read web novels for 6 months, you will know that the majority of it has this problem. Introduced characters are forgotten, not much development, even developed characters are dropped. Standard stuff. It's like the law of nature. Pigs can't fly. Authors can't write. I have no problem for Romance/Harem in novels. But I have a problem with it if the author messes up stories with it. Fortunately, this novel doesn't have this problem. It's actually done decently with specific characters. But I have a nitpick regarding this, which is one of my pet peeves. Dropped potential love interests. CN novels likes to do this. They introduce some potential love interests, maybe develop it for a bit, but after 200 chapters the author either forgets about it or have no idea how to write it into the story, so ignores it on purpose. What is the point in even developing characters in the beginning towards a specific direction if you're not going to bother with it anyway? It's a bait tactic used by authors. With that said, everything else is okay, nothing that you wouldn't expect. Cookie cutter CN novel. Standard stuff. But fast food still tastes good, so if you enjoy action/kingdom management/army fights/romance & harem/chosen one MC/bodies blown into blood mist/killing of nobles and MC thinking that he actually figured it out but still somehow could not figure it out, and you are okay with the negatives then this novel is above average at best. 7.5/10 4/5- The story starts quite good but goes downhill really fast. Somehow it manages to fall into every kind of xianxia cliche down the road, its not that I don't like xianxia type of novels on the contrary most of the novels that I read are in fact Chinese.
- Side characters aren't that memorable because the author didn't flesh them out properly.
- Villains with the intelligence of a monkey at best.
- The novel becomes very repetitive: Introduce "problem"->Grind->Resolve said "problem"
All in all the... more>>the literally over-riding evil that has been driving the already flimsy plot the entire story all of a sudden becomes a misunderstanding and poof the end.
