“In a land far to the east, there exists a strange store that has rejected a three Michelin star rating multiple times.

The prices are expensive. A combo set of soup and egg fried rice costs 288 RMB. Oh, I forgot it also includes a side dish of pickles. Even so, very many people line up to wait.

That place does not accept reservations. It only lets in people who are waiting in line there. Countless people make special trips to line up there. Of course, there’s nowhere to park planes or cars.

Their service is so terrible, the customers have to serve their own dishes and grab their own bowls and chopsticks, and they even have to wipe down their own tables! God, the boss is simply crazy.”

It feels like an inferior version of GoAW. MC is not that likable, I really wanna punch him in the face sometimes.

I like the MC of GoAW better because he's a chef through and through not some money grubber like our MC in this novel (well in the current chapters he is starting to be influenced by the system w/c I don't personally like because it feels too much of an asspull). With GoAW's MC you can tell that before he was summoned (?) his goal is very clear, that... more>> is to be the God of Cooking, and he has already has vast knowledge of cuisine of our world compare that to our MC in this at first was just motivated by money and has little experience when it comes to cooking, most of his skills comes from the system which I feel like bullsh*t 'cause the system basically selected the least qualified person to be theaster Chef.

Also the personality of our MC is the f*cking worst, he's emotionally ret*rded. Some costumers call him ecentric <<less

Really good read. I did not expect much when reading it and gave it a try. It was a really addicting to read. The story starts off like a KN with a game system suddenly installing in the MC's mind. Then it deviates from there as there is no world saving mission or competition against others with the same system. It's just a guy chosen by the system and kinda forced into it by the system.
Spoiler

the system gave a mission to the MC to open up a shop. Because he had a restaurant in the bottom floor of his inherited building (he's an orphan due to parents dying a few years back), he fixed it up to complete mission. When the mission was complete, the system upgraded his shop to whatever he opened it as (which in his case was a food shop).

[collapse]
It's different in that the story is told from the MC's perspective and the clients that frequent his shop. It's also like a slice of life read as this story does have a level up system but the system dictates it not him (which is hilarious at MC's expense). This story also makes reference to other works at comedic moments. It reminds me of I'm really a superstar except without the Chinese Beijinger nationalism, can only use the system on food, and no strings of possible harem interaction. <<less

I am not sure where the story will go, but at the moment it is quote enjoyable to read, but this is not a cooking novel. The name of the novel very well describes what it is about. MC supplies good food and people react to it and although it is fun, but at the same moment it is the biggest problem. MC is just a waiter with the same two lines at the moment and all the fun comes from customers.

Not at 5 stars so far. Its mostly world building and getting to know the characters right now. Too early to tell but this story has potential.*Bluntly*, it's about a guy who received the "God of Cooking" type system and start his small shop with overpriced food and trying to not let people be suspicious of him. Comedy is in this story but its too early in the story for you to start laughing.

As of chapter 11, this story is proving to be a nice discovery. It's just starting, so we will see how it develops. This is not one of those crazy battle stories, but something calm and engaging.

It's about a guy who inherits a restaurant after his parents death. A couple years later he gets a "gaming" cooking skill in real life, so he decides to open again the restaurant.

Good story, good characters, I'm eager to see how this continues.

Sorry friends, for those of you who may not have read many Chinese novels, you will find the MC annoying. But believe me, if you read more you will know what MC's true nature is. Even though I also wanted to beat him like the customers in the shop. Just read the raw Chinese version. He is going out with Yinya. Even though I was annoyed because the plot was slow, this didn't reduce the romance that should have occurred in the novel.

I didn’t read much of the web novel version as the translation isn’t great. There are other sites where the novel is almost completely translated and has a much better quality of translation.

I love books about food but I found this book to be a copy and paste of “ Daddy’s fantasy World Restaurant”. I’m not sure which one was written first but it’s almost as if a template was used with tweaks to a few things. With DFWR at least there was more of a story, while with this... more>> book, it’s dull, repetitive and frankly boring. Even the much loved food descriptions get wordy and tiresome. The constant repetition descriptions of how “amazing the chef’s food is” and “I can only eat his food from now on” is unimaginative and frankly a lazy cop-out. Do better with the story. The MC is boring and unlikeable however every woman wants to throw their underwear at him and every man forgives his brusque manner because he cooks well (rolls my eyes).
I suffered until chapter 130 then abandoned it. <<less

I liked it, even if the MC may seem premature but he seemed realistic because of his flaws. The characters slowly grow on you, the ones that do get mentioned often at least in my own opinion. If you have a lot of time to kill, why not read this story it's not bad, not good, just decent enough to get yourself immersed with if you're going into the hole of reading shitty Chinese system or transmigration stories.

The main focus of the story is world building, plot development and character development. The author takes his time introducing new food dishes, describing the taste, texture, appearance and even the history of the dishes. The characters are also introduced in depth as the author goes into details about their occupation.

However the MC of the story is introduced as a man, taking over his parents restaurant with the help of a "system". Unlike most systems the MC system not too overpowered and becomes more like an encyclopedia that gives out... more>> tasks. The MC is thought to be cold and stern, however thats not the case. The author allows the audience to experience his inner monologue and we realise that he is only cold to be a handsome prince (typical low EQ). He is like any other young man that wants to experience love and thinks that by acting this way he can get a girl -> unfortunately their sub-romance plot (so he stays single xD).

Spoiler

His nickname is "Compass" as he strictly follows the rules (that are the systems) and romance is depicted through his customers. His stern and apparent cold personality can be seen through the interactions with his loyal customers, where he mainly speaks 2/3 sentences. To be honest, he is actually just being polite and letting them speak first. He also provides warm towels to the customers on rainy days. One time he had to collect royal honey himself and when he created a dish for it the system let he price it... He priced it as 1 RMB. So he is NOT selfish and cold as people say

[collapse]

The hardship of being a chef is depicted in the novel. In which he runs a small restaurant and bar. He is only able to sleep 5 hours every day which can be compared to the hardworking small business out here and illustrates the amount of effort he goes through to produce dishes for his customers (you will see later on) and keep his family legacy running. <<less

It could've been better. I'm not saying it's totally bad, while the food in here is somewhat unrealistic it is still interesting to read.

Comparing it to Gourmet of Another World, in which cultivation is involved, this novel is a kind of slice of life-ish one. The problem in this part lies when they involve things like ying and yang and mumbo-jumbos about food being unable to be eaten by women when the 'ying' energy is overwhelming in a certain dish.

Also, the reactions and the side characters are somewhat good but... more>> still...I've expected...I don't know... something better (I don't really know how to express this because it feels as if it something is lacking).

Next, the personality of the MC is quite generic. This is also not a bad thing, the problem lies that his initial personality changes WAY to fast, from a chapter to another it turned from a greenhorn kind of 'I'll do my best' character to a cold, and generic one. I don't have a problem with either personality, as I've mentioned, the problem lies in the way the author did the change.

Lastly and the reason why I was considering to rate this 2/5, the racism. The reasons for 'price increasing' to foreigners is utter crap, there is no salvation. In the end I gave it 3/5 because 99 out of 100 Chinese novels in which the characters are based on a 'real timeline' have this problem. I don't want to fall in my own pit-hole but... almost all Chinese authors are like this.

Sigh. <<less

I think it's honestly great. Just that the attitude of the MC changes so dramatically in the first few chapters. The idea is well thought out and the characters have contrast and seem like distinct personalities. The only thing I would say is bothersome is how everyone can't really compare to MC and that the MC can't lose in anything. Like, he must have some obvious faults too, right? Also, the fact that reoccurring characters are there all the time is nice in a way, but it's also getting kinda... more>> mediocre. But the heartwarming parts of the story are really great, so I'd recommend this novel to you! <<less

This is a really unusual writing style for slice of life. It's not very relaxing nor give you serene feeling when reading it. Sure, there are some comedies but only good enough to put smirk on your face.

It's more like reading a log from a money loving stingy narcissistic MC being reined by sadistic System as every tens of chapter the MC is reminded everything is given by System. It's not good but not bad either, just read it if you are really bored.

After 1000 chapters, there's no startling progress,... more>> there aint much drama either. <<less

This story is a decently slow paced story with no direction but it's an enjoyable read. The story isn't too serious without any of the normal Chinese novel cliches of some arrogant rich guy or the MC scrapping to get by. It's mostly just an observation of the everyday lives of the MC and the customers.

You can ignore the part in the synopsis when it mentions "Their service is so terrible, the customers have to serve their own dishes and grab their own bowls and chopsticks, and they even have... more>> to wipe down their own tables!" None of that is true because the system keeps everything clean (not to mention the waitress wipes down the tables pointlessly) and the MC serves all the dishes with bowls and chopsticks included. He definitely doesn't want anyone to touch his food before being served, so there is no way anyone would be allowed to serve themselves. <<less

Everything is kinda spoilerish so im just tagging it all so people cant whine about it... so here we go.

Spoiler

First things first, im still reading this at time of posting this and im not really far into it so yay? I guess.

Gourmet Food Supplier is... weak? compared to other cooking novels iv read. The nearest as of my current chapters would be Gourmand Of Another World so lets compare the two a bit. Also I really dont care which came first cause im reading them parallel anyways.

Bu Fang - Wants to be the God of Cooking. +1

Yuan Zhou - ??? Doesnt want to be poor? -1

Bu Fang - He doesnt honestly give a damn about you, your mother, father, cat, dog, sister or ancestor unless you are his customer that doesnt cause trouble. +1 for consistancy

Yuan Zhou - Still not really sure what his take on personal interactions is. He seems like he would succumb to a pretty face or his friends... or well anyone if the system didnt bald faced say "Step up your (personality) level". +1 for consistancy

Bu Fang - The system in this novel seems a bit... emotional? and it adds some flavor to the story. +1

Yuan Zhou - The system here so cold, emotionless and dead.. like a robot (which this story lacks even one of those, so sad). -1

Havnt gotten far enough to say much more honestly. So a quick summed up wording would be.

The main character in Gourmet Food Supplier has no real reason to become good at cooking besides money. The system in this story is sterilized to the point of blandness and the only thing going for the MC at the moment is his consistency in his lack of self principles unless the system steps in and tells him to grow a spine.

Oh and another comparison difference is Bu Fang practices every morning and evening after closing up shop where as Yuan Zhou does not practice because the system slams the skills into him and he gets better over time... is Yuan Zhou an Eve character?

chp 49 edit - MC is a douchebag. hope he gets punched atleast once before book is over.

Edit as of Chapter 68 -..I tried to be colorful and interesting in my wording here but I dont even care anymore. A dead dog has more personality traits then the MC and im still reading just for something to do. I literally stopped reading at chapter 64 as the thought hit me "I am seriously just read this because I have nothing better to do... well I could clean my desk and house but that takes more effort than reading so no."

A subsummary for this as of this point could be..

A man whos parents died and he was going to sell his family restaurant magically gains a System that hands him everything yet he still has the gall to complain and whine how hard he works. A novel about how hard it is to sprinkle salt, beat eggs and serve food that you never practiced cooking yet still make more in a month than three average families. Watch as our protagonist (lol) learns to make noodles (did we mention his parents ran a noodle restaurant?), makes money hand over fist, never deals with any hardship except waking up in the morning nor the paper work of running a business. This is a story about hardship, indifference, and how to make a better Egg Fried Rice!

[][][][]

.... Pretty sure this guy would get stabbed if he explained his daily life to any other chef.

Chapter 159 edit.... This book is for people that want to know about all the best ingredients EVER produced in China and maybe, grudgingly some other places in the world. You get history, backstory about ingredients, recipes and honestly these things arnt a bad read (note: I have not fact checked, so it could be bullshit, but whatever?). So if you are looking for a story about cooking that focuses on the ingredients, recipes and cooking know how (again could be bogus far as I know) this novel is for you!

If you want characters... some of the side characters are decently fleshed out and interesting but the main character is a Saltine Cracker. He is pre-packaged, tasteless and bland.

I got some laughs starting around chapter 50 and onward, a good chuckle in the early 100s but im missing some of the comedy I guess due to loss in translation but if something has a "comedy" tag, shouldnt there be a laugh or two in 10 chapters even with loss in translation? I found myself nodding off reading this because it just gets... boring. I guess this particular author's style isnt suited to me because half his content is information about ingredients or recipes and these dont give me raging stiffies or anything to care to read about it. Maybe if I could go eat the food id give a damn but honestly it just feels like a gluttons m*sturbation material sometimes.

Chapter 196 edit - The system seems to be getting a personality (around 150ish I guess) and some other things are improving imo so upping my Stars to 3 (2.5 god damnit).

[collapse]

Probably wont update this because my work ethic is shit, so why would my reviewing ethic be any better? <<less

As of Chapter 300, I have not seen any real progression of the plot. It's nice to see food being described, new dishes appearing, money-grubbing MC, etc, but it sort of gets boring after a while.

Instead of questioning what the hell the 'System' is doing with him, he's more thinking towards 'oh, try to not lose the System, as it is my only way of becoming a godly cook'. Don't get me wrong, it's probably not wrong to say that it is his only way of becoming rich via cooking... more>> since he doesn't have much talent in cooking. But still, since chapter 1, he hasn't truly questioned why System is with him.

Another thing, if this novel is set in modern day China, shouldn't there be 'collecting fee thugs' somewhere? I think many Modern Day CN web novels have this recurring theme, yet it doesn't seem to really happen here.

There are many questionable points about this novel, but maybe I haven't read far enough to actually see an 'overarching' plot.

It's a good read if you're just casually reading and not looking for plot.

It sticks to its premise and it's really interesting because the "system" inside his head is still in initial phase. It's just going to get better and better.

This story is not about the people who eats his dishes or even himself it's about the progress of his power the "Master Chef System". It's good and ridiculous in a good way because the when the system improves our MC improves his skills too or vice versa.
But for the best development of characters I still prefer "God of Cooking". It's... more>> a pity that the updates are slow similar to an ant that intends to walk a dozen of miles. <<less

Shallow character development? System limitation? Its not good as God of Cooking? Forget the review around for this novel, and read the genre and tag.. Sometime poeple just read a novel without read the tag and genre, and keep complain about tut and tat.

My review:
This novel is pretty good, for now (ch 80) the story pace is slow but enjoyable, it not complicated and easy to understand. The MC is a lazy-wozy character, but he keep his words (at least until now). The main thing in this novel is... more>> comedy and fantasy, so if you like some cooking and comedy in one packet. This is yours. <<less

This is a great novel about food/cooking though at first the 'Master Chef System's' was too sudden but I gradually accepted that xD anyway I find the tips of the system funny which adds humor to the story and I like how the MC coldly (?) refuses customers. Overall it's a great story and I'm looking forward on how the story will unfold ^^
