Jiang Hu’s Road is Curved

Alone, Pang Wan entered the Jiang Hu[1]. Her dream was to become a pure lady [2], to find her destined other half.

To fulfill this dream, everyday, she would dress elegantly in white and sit in the teahouse to admire handsome men and read her novels.

She heard, the demonesses [3] related to Jiang Hu were all, depending on their martial arts capabilities, divided into groups of three, six and nine.

Currently, the evil woman, who had the beauty of a blossoming flower, who had a heart like snakes and scorpions, who could kill at such a young age, was a once in a century’s peerless demoness.

She also heard that the demoness had came down the mountains to challenge the Wu Lin [4] champion Gu Xi Ju, to take the title of number one and to wreck havoc in the Jiang Hu.

Yet again she heard that all those who had decent martial arts skills vowed to get rid of this witch.

Aiyaya, it’s not good! Isn’t this demoness her? She did not kill the person! She did not start the fire!

This infamous name of the demoness is also not what she wanted!

Looks like Jiang Hu’s road is very curved, she’d better run!

—–

[1] Literally translated as rivers and lakes. Refers to the pugilist world.

[2] Direct translation: A lady like a White Lotus, meaning pure.

[3] Not exactly the supernatural kind. It’s kind of a name for the women of Jiang Hu.

[4] Wu Lin meaning martial arts.

Read this!

It was a rough start for me at first because of the self-centered MC and her try hard Mary Sue comments making her so ingrating and annoying instead of funny.

She really grew on me though and the story did not start to pick up until about chapter 11 but as long as you reach ch11, it became so interesting you wont be able to put it down!

I like that you dont know who the male lead or second male lead is in this novel because she considers everybody. I... more>> live for this.

It's a COMPLETE novel to boot! Read this! There were so many twsists and reveals but it is such an enjoyable read! You get a sense of fulfillment after finishing it and a bit of longing since it's over.

I recommend reading Meow Meow Meow too after if you haven't read it yet since the MCd are similar: funny, naive, innocent a bit, and not annoying. <<less

I had my apprehension before starting this novel but I took a plunge in my search for more female protagonists.

I am truly glad that the first review I read gave me some time to prepare for that plot twist. I suppose it took out a big chunk of the surprise but it was still impactful. Truly, someone in this novel deserves an Oscar award. Move out Leonardo, he's one up on you. A great novel that does turn a bit dark which I think is a refreshing thing. Come and... more>> check it out, the translation is great as always thanks to the awesome translators. <<less

It is a mixed of innocence and cruelty. For how many chapters it made me root for different men while figuring out how it will come to end knowing that she's from the evil sect. I gave my hands up to the author for one of the male leads completely fooling me. (sigh) It breaks my heart at the same time... and still waiting for tragedies to come...

It's like she (MC) brings you to wonder land (Mary Sue) then suddenly you realized it was all a nightmare. The weird thing... more>> was I'm thankful it was a nightmare for it has awakened the MC. <<less

Please kindly see that there's a tragedy tag in this series. MC is reincarnated into a new world where martial artist, before she was a protagonist in a otome game like-world with reverse harem route. So she always believe that this life is also similar to that past reincarnation of her. Handsome man came and go, still do not know who is the male lead.

Even though the story is fun and amusing, but I can't get my heart into this. The tragedy came and go (at least until chapter 46),... more>> but my heart still not moved, my tears still not fall. <<less

This is one of my favorite novels! It keeps you guessing and is extremely funny. Worth your time because of the story, which is so unique in that it isn't conventional at all, and slaps your face when you least expect it, but in an awesome and unbelievable way. It is written in a light and cute perspective, but has many dark undertones you hardly detect. This is a gem of a novel!

Our MC, PangWan likes to daydream being the center of the attention. She carries a naivety attitude although she is very good at martial art. But after reading more, she is actually quite an observant person, just that her daydreaming make her seemingly naive. One word stick out when I think of her is cute. I guess that's why people underestimate her too because her outer appearance fools people thinking she is just a dainty girl. The story follows her going out in the world trying to finish her assignment... more>> from the sect leader.

I like the story, I find it quite funny, it's a light hearted story. The romance so far keep you guessing who is the male lead.

Additional notes :
At the end of the first arc, the story took a darker turn. More serious as the storyline goes on telling the conflict between the sects and MC caught in it because of her position in her sect.
Because of what happen at the end of the first arc, MC grew up as a character which I applauded so much. <<less

She's giving me a headache wanting to be someone she's not ALL THE TIME. I know she's only 15, but just kill me. She's insane. I want the redemption arc already.

I'm not even sure I can say anything that hasn't already been said by the other reviewers! The author threw me for a loop with that sophisticated plot twist, she really did. The underlying threads were mostly there, but obscured by our cute MC's naivety; truly masterful, I applaud. What a stunning antagonist! Hannibal Lecter levels of stunning.

I really did like the self-absorbed Wan Wan from the beginning! Perhaps some may be annoyed by her Mary-Sue delusions, but I mostly found it charmingly adorkable. This is a girl daydreaming about... more>> achieving some grand romance and a little narcissistic, but ultimately she is in her heart reluctant to cause pain to others. It's such a defining character trait that the pain she feels later struck my heart all the harder. <<less

I normally dont write reviews, but this time I just had to. I love this novel sooo sooo soooooo much! It's short and perfect. I enjoyed the fact that this book doesnt have any fillers or nonsense schemes just to drag on. This novel is straight to the point! Most novels out there are like 300+ chapters, and in those 200 chapters are seriously just fillers!

the story starts off with telling us a little about the MC. She lives in a land of "mary sue, " meaning, the 'main character'... more>> where everything will fall into place by itself because shes the "main character." she day dreams a lot. The first couple of chapters are a little confusing, but once you get pass that, everything gets really good. She basically dies and transmigrated into the daughter of a demon faction where she is required to kill other faction. But instead of focusing on killing, she's focus on finding her "male" lead. Do not underestimate her though, even though fighting and killing is not in her book, she fights gracefully and is really good, she just doesnt care for that life.

-MC is funny

-MC grows stronger throughout the novel, yet still remains her silly self! The author did such a fantastic job at this!

-she can fight! Her main weapon is a whip.. Nuff said.

-You don't know who the male lead is!! AHHH the suspense! (It's something new a refreshing from other novels!)

-Get ready to ship, then let that ship sink to the point of being at the bottom of the ocean, then have a new ship, and let that sink again! But it's ok, because the author did a fantastic job. You won't feel hurt, so just wave goodbye to your ship.

-heartbreak

-happy break

-angry break

-repeat

--- you guys know how when a novel is sooo good that you just wish it was longer? Yeah it's this one. But then we have to think, the reason why it's so good is because theres no nonsense draggy BS. <<less

Originally from Mary Sue land, daydreamer MC waits for ML to sweep her off her feet and earnestly wants to find love (or create a harem?). But things don't work out as well as MC hopes.

This is a great novel! I got a little confused with MC's thoughts at the beginning, but got used to it after the story kept going. Both MC and ML characters develop throughout the story, and I really enjoyed their progress ^^

I really got sad when MC's heart got crushed and betrayed. I am not willing to reread to go through those emotions again.. But it is a happy end so all is good!!

I did NOT see a certain event coming. Completely blind sided and absolutely LOVED every minute of it.

I absolutely loved the first half of the novel. The second half is a little bit slower, but so worth the read. I was amused and then flabbergasted. Absolutely delightful.

To me it's a full 5. I'm satisfied with the plot, the pace, and it's closure.

It's quite short, unlike those long-winded with unnecessary expansion. I find this novel just right.

This novel makes me laugh, angry, heartbroken but in the end breathe a sigh of relief.

I love this book! It starts off with a little boring story and I hate the MC in the beginning because of her delusional traits, so you have to keep reading it until around 20 chapters. After that the story is fluffy and funny. But.. Around 37/38 UNTIL around 60 (towards ending) it becomes a really sad story : ( (also the latter part made me disgusted and shocked because of the main antagonist and I think the ending is solved all the problems, especially the biggest problem with... more>> the villain. For me, it solved well because long before I read the solution for the main villain, I also thought the same solution and saw it as the best outcome, LOL. But, for me the ending is not sufficient. I want the MC and ML further story and their further development. And yes, I think the author kind of rushed the ending. There's a big plot twist in this story. <<less

The story is pretty light at first but as the title said "Jianghu Road is Curved", the road is not always straight.

Yes, it was like all your view is not always real. There is something more deeper than you think. All that you think is evil is not always evil and what you think is good is not always good.

Like Pang Wan, our MC, who get titled as demoness is the more pure than the so called fairy lady.

And the one who people view as righteous is the one who scheme deeper than the people from evil sect

Deep waters are deep.

An amazing story, cruel, dark and funny. I really like it. The author even manages to end it well - something that rarely happens.

I like the use of self-deceit and how everything comes full circle.

I don't like how the MC just uses the ML for parts of the story - but it works, as she is a Mary-Sue main character!

5*, almost no flaws and very funny.

Honestly, I hated the first 8 chapters of this. The FL was annoyingly narcissistic and it really started to get on my nerves. But I persevered because of the high ratings and numerous good reviews.

AND LET ME TELL YOU I DO NOT REGRET IT AT ALL. IF ANYTHING I AM SO HAPPY I CONTINUED.

Ok first of all, I want to say the character development was so well done and I just enjoyed it so much. The FL's character was fleshed out amazingly and I just love the conclusions she got... more>> to after her trials and tribulations. Though delusional at the beginning, but really a person with strong character. Even when she was on the delusional side, she was still able to draw the line and her jealousy was never toxic. She accepted the truth and just moved on and honestly that is something to commend.

There were so many plot twists that came up that I did not predict at all, which I thoroughly enjoy because it meant that the story wasn't predictable.

Spoiler

I honestly loved how we really experience all the emotions that the FL went through. And although she was naive at the beginning, she really learnt her lesson after being betrayed; albeit a steep price. My favourite line from the whole novel would have been "The best kind of revenge is no revenge."

[collapse]

The ML is also quite adorable, although he isn't the best at smooth talk but his awkwardness is adorable. Also his actions towards her speaks louder than words. Although he could be a bit overbearing at times, but he still looks out for her and at the end of the day. Let's her do what she wants but still reigning her in when she goes too far.

Spoiler

The fake ML in the first part of the story though. THAT MAN IS HELLA TWISTED. But a really good villain. To control a person's life just because you wanted someone to compete with you, ooft psychopathic much. Still, I did shed a tear when he set off the fireworks and still ring the bell on her birthday after he thought she had died.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Also it was interesting how the FL lead viewed how those who are independent and find people who want to love as foolish are also scared themselves. And that loving someone and trusting someone with yourself is a strength in itself. It really made me change my perspective, and I really commend this novel to be able to do that.

[collapse]

Overall, great story, great character development and characters. I didn't expect to be able to laugh out loud at the FL's antics but also cry with what she had to go through. Not to mention, the translations for this was amazing and it made the story that much better. <<less

This is one of the most perfect stories that I have read. The author just knows how to make a great plot with ups and downs that take you by surprise.

Spoiler

I didn't know that GJX that bastard was the Final Villain of this story so by the time he betrays her I really loved my ship until he broke it. I was so into that ship that I practically ignored the other potential MLs. And that betrayal made me so "heartbroken" and angry that I actually didn't get to fully enjoy the romance that came after with the real ML. The author made me so freaking suspicious of everyone that I couldn't believe anymore.

One more thing: Nanyi my poor Nanyi, how could his ending be so bleak?? I wish I never read the 1st side story! I deeply regret it!!

[collapse]

Seriously if there is one advice I have to give to those reading this story that is: Do not believe in any ship until you get to chapter 60. This story is so well constructed that you'll definitely like it! I can't say I liked any character in it but the plot was amazing! <<less

I expected a wacky rom-com story but no it wasn't like that at all. The plot was deeper than what I originally thought.

In the end I'm glad that we have a happy ending and justice was somehow served.

I'm happy at the same time sad. Afterall, the characters truly did suffer and, as readers, we were there to witness their journey.

... more>> I was feeling bored at the first few chapters but it did capture my interest later on, so one must be patient for a little while when reading this.

This reading experience reminds me of that time when I first tried to read Gone with the Wind. I was feeling bored and uninterested too when I first read it. However, the story also took a turn I didn't expect and made me read on. The only difference is that I was satisfied with the ending of Jianghu's Road is Curved while I was frustrated with Gone with the wind's ending.

Make no mistake though, their plots are completely different. I'm only talking about my reading experience with these two books. <<less

This book is an emotional rollercoaster! I read it all in one sitting. It starts off cute, making you feel nice and fluffy on the inside. Then it proceeds to give you enough anxiety to scar you from ever reading this book again. Don't get me wrong, it was a good book but if you're looking for a 'fun' read then look elsewhere. Solid 4/5 for me because I'm more of a fluff than angst person.
