The Cambrian Explosion, now the largest life science puzzle…

500 million years ago, among single-celled life on Earth , there suddenly began mutations similar to evolution, a variety of gorgeous creatures were born “out of thin air”, all ancestors of today’s species appeared in that short period of time, each species were evolving at lightning speed; billion times faster than today, it was a brilliant era.

Unfortunately, the life of brilliant things are always short, after the brief “Cambrian”, life on Earth entered another 56 million years of evolutionary era at turtle speed. And humans, were also one step faster during the turtle race, and become the leader of life on Earth.

But now — a greater “second age” has come again.

During the lightning speed of evolution, humanity was kicked off of the throne on the food chain in the shortest time possible, and life on Earth, welcomed the second brilliant big bang.

The real end of the world, is no longer brainless zombies or desolate earth, but — the end of mankind, the whole earth’s paradise.

So far it has been a good read. The MC's character is realistic. He isn't OP or heroic. He's just a normal guy who was slightly luckier than others to have saved someone he needed to keep the story going. Although, that person is overly attached to MC for no real reason that I can tell.

The side character's personalities are well written, even if they are going to die in the near future.

The science involved is meh. There are some aspects that are too convenient. Especially about the red fog.... more>> We're being repeatedly reminded that normal people cannot see more than three meters.

Our MC can see around seven to eight meters in the beginning but he was described to be practicing crossbow with a tree 40 meters away. This also applies to everyone else around as the vision blockage is selectively forgotten whenever convenient.

Good thing is that there isn't too much differentiation between sexes and characters are limited to having heard about r*pes and other crimes at this stage.

Looking forward to romantic interests to come on board as the novel isn't particularly long and it does have a romance tag. Could just be a troll though.

Probably the most realistic disaster novel I've read. Not that I've read many. <<less

  1. The "pseudoscience" is a relatively small part of the novel. I won't deny that there is pseudoscience, but it is relatively minor stuff, nothing like Terror Infinity where there is a factually incorrect statement every other sentence. The science in this novel is not too bad.
  2. The characters feel somewhat realistic and you don't get s*upid stereotypes like in typical xianxia novels (obviously). The dialogue feels realistic and so does the drama. The smart characters are able to make reasonable deductions based on what they can see whereas the dumber characters act more predictably/stereotypically.
  3. The first 50 chapters are purely about surviving animals and obtaining food. If this is not your fetish then I guess it would bore you. There's no exciting fighting stuff like in God and Devil world, or special missions/quests like in Reincarnator or other game-type apocalypse novels. The MC manages to obtain a crossbow and hunt animals with it. That's pretty much it. The special abilities uncovered so far are just detection and thinking types.
All in all, it's a nice, fairly well thought out apocalypse novel. No major problems with it that I can see so far.

Based on first impression, you would think that this novel is the same as the other apocalypse/survival novels but it is more than that.

Up till chapter 65, the plot has been progressing steadily, albeit slowly but due to this, the back story was fleshed out properly. Realistic and portrays emotions appropriately unlike other novels which tend to put super calm, focused MC with millions plot armors. Here we have, normal MC with normal feelings, emotions that normal human would have given if they were in the same situation. The side... more>> characters have yet to be developed but we can see they are starting to have their own distinctive features, unless the author decides to kill them off. The interactions between the characters leave little to desire. No romance yet but it is to be expected during the apocalypse.

There were little to no action in the novel as it focused more on the character development but we can expect more in the future as they are becoming stronger and stronger each day. To conclude, It is definitely a good novel to read :) <<less

Halfway through the first chapter I realize that is was a good light novel. It was a cleverly written conversation between the parents and the MC that made me think this way. It only got better from there. Each chapter was just as engrossing as the last. The author seems like a skilled writer. Writing realistic character with complex motivations.

Ha, finaly a chinese novel where the MC doesn't imediately turn into an imoral ruthless killer who can slaughter waves of monsters or human without a though or help from other people

It's great that you can see the MC's path into becoming more ruthless and OP but it doesn't happen overnight

Greater than that is the fact the MC isn't some gutless rumble idiot lowering his head to everything even when he ia clearly stronger but also isn't an arrogant ass that prefers to do the idiot thing to... more>> keep "face" he knows when to back down <<less

Cool Novel
Love how the author is taking the time to build this world and not just throwing things at the readers. Very Very happy that the translators picked such an interesting book, that's also complete.

It reminds me of Dominion’s End, mainly because they are both well written, well translated, in an apocalyptic setting, with the concept of mutations definitely involved. But other than that the MC's paths are pretty different.

-In conclusion, I cry cause I finished reading all the translations, Love It-

Pretty slow to develop and quite a bit of pseudoscience/misunderstanding mixed in with real science but overall, so far it's an enjoyable diversion from the same ole' same ole apocalypse type stories with the zombies. Plus, the MC doesn't appear to have gotten an instant upgrade/hax like soooooo many other stories. It's not that I mind OP MCs, just that they shouldn't get the OPness within the first few chapters without any work for it.

Sexism is pretty low key, so far, which is refreshing compared to most of the chinese... more>> stories in this genre. (It's a very real, very present problem) <<less

I rarely write reviews on here, but here I will.

Really, really enjoyed reading this up to precisely chapter 146.
Unfortunately after chapter 146 the translator changes and the quality goes from 5* to absolute dog****.
From 147 onwards it becomes unreadable.

Yet another great novel translation ruined by a bad translator (or MTL) taking over.

Thanks for the efforts going into translating the first 146 chapters, really enjoyed those!

this novel is not bad but the characters are completely s*upid because they ask question for something that they already konow so it's really annnoying and the development is very slow with no goal for the MC and I don't understand why is allway think that the government can help him because at the start we understand that he don't like the state of his life and like all the chinese that I have read THE MC is allway thinking that the government is all but they don't think like... more>> that when they get suppressed by them even if they have power alltought I understand that the author want to make a realistic apocalypse I don't think that someone have the time for discribe think wich is not neccessary for their survival anyway just read the novel for have your own opinion <<less

This is a pretty standard survival vs surprise evolution story. Unfortunately, it's slow and dry. In the beginning, there is at least one or more plot holes per chapter. The MC is so dumb, I nearly dropped the series several times in the beginning, but he suddenly becomes intelligent around chapter 25... That said, he really needs to quit trying to ingest formalin. Note: The intelligence is short-lived.

Although the MC appears like he's supposed to be a character with morality, he only acts that way on screen. Off screen, he... more>> appears to be very inconsiderate to his supposed comrades and friends and doesn't give them the vital information they may need to survive. For example, he does not warn his friends about where he encounters deadly things, so they are completely unaware of it when they walk into the same traps he did. I'm not sure if he's a fake good guy, if he is just oblivious and forgot about this life-saving details, or if this is just an example of poor writing.

Furthermore, the MC starts smoking tobacco as soon as the apocalypse starts. Since the apocalypse isn't horrible enough, apparently he wants to give himself nicotine cravings on top of it? There is no logic here.

There isn't much character depth, and the strength of their bonds does not come across well.

The other characters are relatively flat, although they have consistent characterization. However, "smart" characters are not smart--they may be even less intelligent than the protagonist. If one of them is smart enough to design a certain plan or trap, why should he or she assume another person can’t? Their combat strategies are weak and full of pomp, and they don't plan things out well at all. They are only considered "smart" because they can modify organisms, and the writer did not demonstrate any good examples of their intelligence in action. They have observation skills, but their strategy and planning is so weak, this evens out their IQ to something around average.

None of the characters are particularly likable or unlikable. They're all forgettable.

There are numerous inconsistencies, especially about who knows what, where one character is, and what characters are up to. In the beginning, there is even a gun that is never mentioned again and disappears from the plot without any explanation. Characters also disappear and reappear several chapters later like they'd been there the whole time.

The writing is lacking, and the pacing is off. The action scenes are too abrupt and don’t let don't let the readers feel much excitement. Overall, the intensity, suspense, and action could be much better.

The strongest part of this series is the setting. Just make sure to turn off any knowledge of science before diving in.

Although the translations are good, there are distracting grammar errors often enough to lower my evaluation on that point. There is also inconsistency between whether pounds or kilograms are used, and it'd be nice if the translation and editing team just picked one. The Chinese names got flipped, which feels awkward to me since I automatically assumed the characters were named with their family names followed by their given names like everything else on this site and other Chinese web novel translation sites. I kept wondering why they normally addressed one character by his surname or as mister with his given name rather than his surname....

It looks like the author had a lot of ambition with this series but not enough scientific knowledge to make it believable (It's okay if no one understands how it works or if it's fantasy--just don't make fake science!). This is a huge turn-off. It also looks like the author planned to make this a heart-rendering, action/drama series, but he or she was unsuccessful on all fronts.

If you want an mild survival series to waste some time on, this is an option. I just don't recommend it for anyone looking for something to get his or her heart pumping. <<less

I like how this novel is giving me an amazing ride of emotions. There are times when I really empathize with the poor apocalyptic survivors.

It's refreshing in concept where except using zombies during the apocalypse the author used the concept of evolution.

This is an apocalyptic story that I think has potential and a very good read.

Honestly, I enjoyed this book a lot. To me this book was refreshing. The book emulates that even though he has abilities, he is not the most OP. It shows that there are people much stronger than him. He also doesn't get a sudden power-up, and he doesn't become a "cold, ruthless" MC instantaneously, instead, having emotions becoming of a high schooler, just having have had to become more mature. I think that in the beginning he takes killing people a bit too easily, and I think it would have... more>> been nice for him to actually care about the fact that he took a life, but whatever. What made me get upset is the fact that from chapter 147, it seems that there is a missing chapter or something because apparently Jing gets taken. Also, the translator was definitely changed because, from chapter 147, I'm reading this chapter like I'm reading an MTL. It's painful to read, and the story just doesn't flow as well. I can barely keep up with the story anymore. As such, I have decided to drop this book. I am just disappointed. This book had a lot of potentials, but it just didn't work out in the end. Had the same translator continued working on the book, I would have continued to read.

P.S. This is all objective as I am mentally incapable of reading badly translated novels and MTL's <<less

b0ring. It was interesting at first. Then there is that s*upid morality issues of the MC. And there is no following the reward to risk plan. The MC kills and hunts monsters but after the first evolution period, he increases by only 1 level (according to Jing's index calculation) and there are people who directly level to 8 or 9 or at least around level 4s and 5s. That is boring.

This novel is really good. Great story, good character development. Not just the main character, but the more important side characters are also well developed. The previos comments pretty much describe my thoughts, so I won't go into a deep analisys. Despite this, there is something that really, really bothers me (that's why I just gave four stars), and that's the so called "science".

In this novel, there are a lot of "scientific" explanations and conversations. And they are simply terrible. Some of them are not too bothering (like the fast... more>> evolution period mentioned in the description), but there is a single one, that really annoying and even can be considered as harmful. That is the part about gene manipulation. It's obvious, that the author don't know a single thing about this subject, and is very afraid of it. The problem is that his/her guesses aren't even close to the reality and I say this as someone who learned for years about gene manipulation. The reader can easily get a picture, where GMO-s are randomly created, harmful, agressivly expanding things, while in reality all of these are false statements.

In the end, I think it's worth a try, just don't take ANYTHING scientifically correct in this novel. <<less
