It is a beautiful little story. Though it is so short it is very touching and sweet and I absolutely adored it. Totally recommend if you just want to sit down for a short time and read a little romance.

A short and bittersweet read that follows the love story between a stone spirit Sansheng and the God of War Moxi, through 3 reincarnation cycles. The MC, SS is simple and naive, unable to comprehend complex thoughts and emotions, especially the male lead's, however she is steadfast in her love and devotion to him. While her light tone prevents the story from becoming melodramatic but still conveys the right emotions. While MX granted SS three lives and opportunities on a whim, he becomes equally devoted after falling for her in each of his lives, and often with tragic results. The story also felt like it was the perfect length to capture all the events that occured, while the relationship between the leads felt sweet and genuine,

although it was a little awkward since she practically raised him in 2 of them, but given his character it'd be hard for her to enter into his heart with a shallow connection

. While the last 2 bonus stories didn't quite carry the same charm as the rest of the story. However the ending was done well and the bonuses gave the closure needed to complete the story.

Parts of this story were so touching they made me tear up!

This story really reminds me of “Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes Thanks To a Moment of Impulse” and gives off the same feelings, albeit lighter.

The three lives tribulations:

one of the first novels I read on this site and I really realy really LOVE it! Actually, I avoided this xianxia genre because I had no idea what that was and was not sure would like it but damn I wanna thank myself for giving it a try. If not, I would miss out on such a great story. Highly recommended!!

thanks to author and translator!♡

A short and simple romance story between a rock (literally) for the underworld and a god from the heavens.

Just like other Jiu Lu Fei Xiang novels, this novel has tons of comedy. It's quite similar to "Seven unfortunate lifetimes" in how the ML and FL meet and the multiple lifetimes. But don't be fooled by these novels' funny writing style. The author has an uncanny ability of making readers cry at tragedies even if we know they're temporary. I have never seen any other writer with this ability.

Spoiler

In these Novels, the MCs go through several lifetimes together. Most of which end quite tragically. But we, the readers know even if they die, they will just wake-up in the underworld without harm. Yet I can't help but feel sad/cry every single time. It's crazy how the author does this. Probably a mix of adorable characters going through really well-written heart wrenching tragedies.

[collapse]

The FL is such a beautiful soul, pure and innocent yet stern and protective. Never once in the story does she suddenly loose her wits. She loves the ML enough to know when to give him space and freedom. The ML Moxi on the other hand, is more a man of action than words. He expresses his love silently but it's heard loud and clear.

They're so different in how they express love, yet somehow strike a perfect harmony.

So grab yourselves some sweet wine on a snowy day and read this novel while admiring the peach blossoms. <<less

I think Chinese webnovels should all take notes from this novel's length 🤣 this was a 15 chapter short story about two immortals (not bl) who fell in love, and the three lifetimes they go through before being together. Short, sweet and angsty. I liked the main character a lot. She's such a joy - fearless, shameless, powerful and funny. Tbh the love interest was not as developed. His motivations and feelings are only hinted at.

Definitely gonna pick up the author's other books now.

It was such an awesome experience reading this story. All emotions can be felt. I like Sansheng's personality of never backing up and sticking to her principle of seducing Moxi no matter what. Their reincarnation reminded me of 7 unfortunate lifetimes but they just had 3. For me it was just lacking of depth but it's understandable since there are only 15 chapters plus the epilogue and bonus stories. Overall it was a fun read and their emotions are well felt. Thank you.

This was just perfect - novella with just the right balance of light-hearted fun and emotional parts. I ended up crying a bit at the end, especially after going through each of the CP's lives which kept ending on a sad note. The FL/MC was great, dry humor, no-nonsense attitude yet an undying love and (almost) selfless devotion to the ML. Sweet and with some good side characters. Writing style is simple, yet elegant and intelligent. I liked it a lot - will have to read more by this author.

***4.5 Stars***

Wow, for a novel that was release in 2011, this aged sooo well.

Sansheng, Wangchuan Wu Shang is short, sweet, and lovely. Although there's a tragedy tag, the overall story is rather upbeat and the stakes aren't too high as readers, who follow the first person narrative of Sansheng, are aware that the main characters' death don't really mean permanent death. Each lifetime has 5 chapters and, with a couple of bonus chapters and an epilogue, brings the whole novel to 19 chapters that's readable in a couple of hours.... more>> You best believe I was getting emotional at 3 AM.

TRANSLATION

Great translation with really well-written flow and sentence structure. It honestly didn't feel like a translated novel at all, at times. Thank you translator!

INITAL MEETING + PLOT

Honestly, cuteness overload. SS's a stone from the Underworld that manages to manifest a spirit. The ML Moxi is the God of War from the Heavenly Realm. Her directness at first meeting gets his attention and he bestows 3 lifetimes for her to try to "seduce" him (LMAO I'm telling you, the antics of this heroine are too good). At the same time, he's about to reincarnate 3 times as his trials/tribulations. Their story thus begins.

The elements of this story felt like an Easternized version of Hades & Persephone (one of my faves) with crossed roles. Instead of the goddess of spring, the FL is an Underworld stone spirit. Instead of the God of the Underworld, the ML is the heavenly God of War. It's a great twist though, with fun recurring characters like demons/imps of the Underworld and Lord Yama (the actual God of Death). Although the supporting characters don't have a lot of page time, their quips and dialogue were really endearing as you could tell they all supported the FL.

Also, reading from the FL's perspective elevated the whole experience. She's brash and blunt and direct. As a stone spirit, she's cultivated some pretty strong powers too so you don't have to worry about her being bullied around. Also as a stone spirit, she's stubborn, determined, and patient. While SS doesn't have a good grasp on what things are like outside the Underworld, she's not dumb and can figure things out. We stan a resilient and adaptable FL that says what she means and means what she says!

ROMANCE

Time is pretty ambiguous when the main characters are both thousands and maybe millions of years old... so I had to put aside my misgivings when the FL ended up finding the ML reborn as a baby in a couple of lifetimes. (Lol! She basically doesn't age at all while the ML grows until an appropriate age and reciprocates her feelings romantically. I had to remind myself: they're both actually thousands of years old. And he'll regain all his memories. So it's okay.)

One thing about this couple is that they're very devoted to each other throughout the storyline. Although sometimes the ML spends his lifetime without the FL, he remains faithful to her. Some of his actions were heart-breaking, and some of them were heart-touching (*cough* 2nd lifetime rip *cough*). But despite the heartbreak (and my tears, lol), the story doesn't get too heavy/cumbersome, and remains one where you can see that the happily ever after is worth the angst.

OVERALL

This was a really lovely and enjoyable read. I'm not a huge fan of multiple lifetime stories (literally dropped soo many Cdramas by the second lifetime or so because I get so impatient), but the pacing and length of this novel was perfect. I really recommend it for a xianxia romance that'll touch your heart.

Trigger Warnings: war and mild violence; other than that the story is pretty tame

TL;DR Read this if you're into:

  • A strong and simple FL who has a hilarious inner dialogue
  • A caring and tsundere ML that's devoted from beginning to end
  • A couple that goes through trials and tribulations due to their love for each other
  • Something short and sweet that will really tug your heartstrings, and
  • A happily ever after!

Cute and short story
Spoiler

that deserves the HE it ended with!

I was kinda worried after reading the first 2 lives because all the tragedies I watched ended very bleakly.

Wish we were shown more moments that happened during those 3 lifetimes that made Moxi fall for her

This is too short. Too short but it’s.. everything. There are novels that are also short but I did not get the same feels I have for this novel.

this has just its different charm & the way the story is expressed? It’s everything.

i got hooked by this story. It immediately gave me emotions despite its not so lengthy story. This is a gem. The emotions are thoroughly inlaid it’s just.. So amazing.

... more>> this is sooo beautifully written. Short, simple, but the feelings are there.

I LITERALLY SOB HARD EVERY ARC DHJDN. I just love the MC so much. So so much. She’s naïve but not that naïve. She’s painfully adorable but sensible. I love the ML, in every arc he is adorable (uhm kidding not the second one)

i just.. Love them. I love them I love them. After reading this, it became one of my fave novels (╥﹏╥) (& I only got few favs)

i just realized I haven’t posted a review tho I have read this long time ago TuT so here it is hahahha. <<less

This is so good.

I mean like it’s so good that we have already known way right at the beginning that all 3 lifetime, they won’t ever reach the chance of forever, but the way the author pens out how the story, so much feels. So much angst, so much laughter and so much tears.

I like how it was supposed to be a short read, but truthfully, I actually don’t feel like way. Reading this actually gave me so much fulfilment as to compared to something that is over c100.

Recc for light reading. Tho all 3 lifetimes are tragedies it somehow still ends up being a light read. But ppl who dislike the raising one's own love trope should avoid, 2 lifetimes are of that variety.

MC is simpleminded and doesn't really thinks too much. ML is great, very loving. Kinda not much to say, they suit each other well. Pity there wasn't a bonus story post-2nd lifetime.

It's too short! I want more but at the same time I'm afraid that if the story is stretched unnecessarily it might lose its beauty. I like it very much! Just the right amount of sweetness! Also 10/10 for the translation quality!

Sansheng's character started off as a naturally ignorant and naive but she slowly adapted and grew with hee surroundings. I like her straightforward attitude. Kind of reminded me of Xin Mei from the novel 'A Match Made in Heaven'. She's also a go getter but Xin Mei is not... more>> the type to use her life or sacrifice bit for the sake of her love. I guess it's because Sansheng knows that she will naturally go through reincarnation and even have the chance to accompany him in 3 lifetimes. It's that thing that gave her confidence.

As for our ML, Moxing. His mortal characters were always cute and shy in front of Sansheng and also gifted and intelligent. But if I were to talk about 'Moxing' his immortal character is authoritative. I like that instead of blindly rushing to save our FLs ass, he thinks of a smarter way for them to be together. He doesn't s*upidly defend her in the moment of impulse.

I did like the ending bonus chapter and although I long for a 'family' ending, it can't be helped since the nature of immortals abt having kids is not really that common. Admittedly, I teared up a little about the 1st bonus chap. I felt his loneliness and longing right there.

I am honestly craving for more interaction between the immortal self and spirit self. I guess it's because I've read the novel 'Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes... ' and quiet enjoyed the main couple's interactions. There's also Yanwang! 10/10 would recommend for those who are looking for a short but satisfying read. It's light and heartwarming. <<less

Such a lovely story and I am happy for their happily ever after. ML/MC kills MC/ML. The masochist in me sometimes thinks it is a different experience to see how the character repents/pines/suffers when they themselves causes the death of their lover. I wish we have a tag for that.

This was the first novel I finished in 2021 and I have no regrets picking this up. It’s just so heart wrenchingly beautiful and haunting. I want a love like that, like Sansheng and Moxi’s. There’s nothing to really criticize with the story as it’s so well-written and fantastically played out. I hope this gets adapted as a drama!

Great translation as usual from hamster. This was just perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The romance was extremely well-planned out. In a short 15chps they were able to explore so many different elements and keep me invested at the same time. I think this was an absolutely amazing work and I would highly recommend. The writing style of this author was so good, it sent chills up my spine and almost brought me to tears multiple times.

A good feel novel the whole way through.

This is one of those books where the synopsis did the book no justice.

I did have some moral concerns but it’s not that deep and the novel executed it well to the point it’s practically goes by unnoticed.

If you are just contemplating on reading it, go ahead and read it. Like I said, it’s a good feel book. It very refreshing and makes your heart all giddy. Perfect for passing time.

As a more refine review:

Spoiler

- MC is very naive, but it’s a charm in this novel. Doesn't cause unnecessary trouble (well that’s debatable oops-) but all in all you won’t feel annoyed by her. A rather plus on personality.

- ML is admirable (Especially in the end) He’s not obnoxious nor extreme. He plays his ‘God’ role well (Handsome, Powerful, etc...) and it all goes in his favor. You mainly see him through MC’s lens so he is quiet lovable and the other times just shows that he does love her.

- Antagonist. None really. It’s about trial and tribulations of ML in each lifetime, but most of it comes from his heart break emotions from MC.

- The side characters. Decent really. Help push along the story. Not much to say.

- Plot. Cute. A bit on the predictable side but that’s what help this make it a light read and good for passing time.

[collapse]

All in all, if Romance is your typical genre then it’s a must read. If you aren’t huge on Romance but come across it a bit then this is perfect (Romance driven but minus all the typical annoyance). If you avoid it, then idk cause I’m not one to, but I’d still recommend it. <<less
