A story about idiot MC, idiot protoganist, idiot side characters anc the only one normal is the main herione or you can say say she is the abnormal one because all around her are idiots. The story have a unique setting that MC is a npc of game that have his own will and the game is trying to correct it.

It is fun to read. =)

Its a nice slice of lifeish story. It was just nice to read.

But two reasons for the 4 rating:

  • The ending of all the villians the MC faces is that they regret their actions and change their ways due to how amazing/hard working/ earnest the MC is. I don't know about the main antagonist since I won't read till the end but the story has given some clues that he is also a "hero" who is just trying to help his kingdom so I guess it will be the same ending. Its just lazy, unrealistic and makes the characters 1D. Whats the use of describing them of all these things when they change their whole personality of one thing, but I guess that is what the MC does in chapter 1 :D.
  • The above didn't really piss me of, it was just annoying. But this really did. So far the author has made an effort to characterise the characters. But the latest one, a goddess, is the most 1D effortless sht I have seen. All her characteristics for the last 10 chapters can be summarised into : How dare you call me useless, Rudel they are bullying me, *Give me desserts and i'l shut up no matter what*. So boring, I just skipped over all her parts, just dull.
And to end it... more>> off, I am dropping the novel. First of all I'm not a massive fan of the slice of life genre and also the fact that you don't feel progress in this novel. Time is inconsistent and we don't see any hard work/fortuitous encounters. For example, MC employs teacher who uses him to do mercenary work. He just stands there looking over a village, doing nothing but shovelling snow but *bam*, he is now OP and goes to school to win the competition. It just felt dumb, dumber than those fortuitous encounters other MCs have. <<less

TL;DR: This "story" deserves negative three stars and reading a microwave safety manual would be more entertaining.

I've never read this author's other, more popular work but reading this has guaranteed I never will. Even if the author improved to the point that Sevens is a hundred times better than Dragoon the end result will still be mediocre. The characters are one dimensional, the action is boring, the romance is shallow and the plot is meandering and incoherent.

The biggest problem of all is the author tells and doesn't show. We're told... more>> the MC is skilled and strong, but we never actually see his skill or strength used beyond vague descriptions of him beating equally vague opponents. We're told various female characters are in love with him, but we aren't shown a reason they like him, let alone love him. And so on.

Look elsewhere for something to read, this is tr*sh. <<less

Okay, I read that 2-star review by Trent and I can't help but notice a few weird discrepancies... I personally like the story, so maybe I'm biased, but for one, the other two of the most prominent houses' children ARE NOT "coincidentally" in the same class. They're in different classes altogether. I don't understand how you can miss that. And sure, there's a time skip at the beginning, but it's done to skip over the long training and lonely (mostly) life of the MC. It's presumably very monotonous so I... more>> can understand how the author would decide to cut a few corners regarding the details at that time of the MC's life. Personally, I think you can view the whole childhood 'arc' as more of a prologue/intro to the MC and his situation. It's not meant to be detailed, and the main story starts when the school arc begins.

Another point that sells me about this novel is that the antagonists are given actual chances to change for the better, and aren't all s*upid cannon fodder characters to make the protagonist look stronger. The MC isn't loved by everyone around him, and is in fact mostly misunderstood and disliked (p (he isn't some OP god with world-destroying super-powers). This doesn't stop him from pursuing his ideal dream, so I also admire that. It isn't as if the MC is a 2-dimensional character either, the author fleshes him out by making sure he has weaknesses and highs and lows like any other person.

If I had to find any faults in the story, I'd say that the romance is not very fulfilling, and there are some characters that just haven't seen much progression at all. The friendships and character relationships are very well thought out though.

So far, it's a delightful and heartwarming story about a boy chasing after his dream. <<less

6/10, readable (excellent translation) but not too enjoyable. Read it if you have nothing else to read.

I am mad and disappointed at this story because it could have been a great story if the author had put more work into fleshing out the characters and their reactions. No sir, you don't fall in love with the guy that you want to kill just because he kisses you on the forehead. Yes, you never know where love comes from - but! Flesh it out, don't make it look s*upid. If every... more>> f*cking girl is like this in your story it's boring.

Pro:

-various interesting characters (way more than the MC anyway..)

-pretty quick pace, straight to the point (too much even)

-the antics of the MC can sometimes actually be funny

Con:
-The author doesn't respect the rules of his own world; the world revolves conveniently around the MC
-1 dimensional characters. They don't feel remotely alive, their reactions are very unnatural.

-Stereotypical dense MC that for some reason (plot) attracts every female living being (except possibly Mii the cat) despite everything he is and isn't.

-not much worldbuilding. The world seems very bland. <<less

It's great. I'm hooked and I rarely get hooked on a series. The author did a great job writing this masterpiece and the translator is doing a great job of translating. Whag more can I ask for.

This series was written by the author of "Sevens" and was his earlier novel. There are a lot of Sevens' elements in Dragoon and it can be said that it is a practice ground for the author since it shown how much he have grown by the time he wrote Sevens. That also means Dragoons is lacking compared to Sevens, he got the idea but the execution is wavering between good and bad, some times it's good but some times other it's bad.

This is quite a unique case, in which... more>> the main character (and the main heroine) are the worst part of the series and instead some of the supporting characters are developed well. The main character isn't growing and remain one dimensional until the end of the series, but the supporting characters are growing with believable rate becoming better person and they have more plot and goals than the MC. But I didn't mean all supporting characters are good, other than a few characters, most of them are often neglected by the author and remain irrelevant to plot even when they're on the scenes.

The plot itself is the usual shounen battle series, it's enjoyable but shallow. The plot is progressing steadily to the climax, but the way he end the series feels lackluster. The dragoon part was not developed well even when it's the title and even feels like a downgrade for the MC. <<less

Well... this is a simple easy-to-read story, that has a somewhat cute plot. But character development is sorely lacking, with them having excessively unique (extreme) traits just to set them apart, thus giving the villains a plausible excuse to dislike the MC. It's a kind of 'misunderstanding' based story where much of the conflict are based on misunderstandings, but comes across more forced as the characters are just so... special. All in all a good interesting story but poor characters

Although there were a couple of problems with the story and not the best translation, I liked the story plot and comedy in this. However, it starts to devolve in later chaps once he gets into third year of school.
Spoiler

a main side character also died. Im okay with bad endings but with the somewhat average quality of the story, the leading events for her to die and her moment of death / MC reactions and thougts, it was very underperformed and filled with cringe developments and moments

[collapse]
. I would keep reading but Id rather end off on that than end up having a worser ending and writing quality for the last half of the book as there is starting to be too much characters in this novel for the author to upkeep the quality

[After 30 chapters] 5 Stars

It's a lighhearted story. Maybe not very deep, but nice, and avoids many of annoying web novel flags.

I'm surprised by how much happened in first 30 chapters. Compared to Jack of all trades, where it feels like nothing happened in first 70 chapters, here I got an entire novel's worth from the first 30.

[After finishing] 4 Stars

Yea, it really slows down and meanders later on. Still, not bad.

s*upid, but fun reincarnation + game comedy with a transformed villain NPC as the protagonist instead of the reincarnator

Rudel, the first-born son of a corrupt ducal family, saw a dragon-rider when he was five. At that moment, the destined corrupt nobleman villain of a harem VN/RPG disappeared into the aether and a dragon idiot was born.

The craft of the plotting and story isn't the greatest, but Dragoon is still an enjoyable light comedic read. The closest I can think of in this vein is Gifting, except the main character is... more>> not a depraved tsukkomi this time, and the absurdity levels are a bit lower.

There are a couple of tearjerkers. Cheap ones, but I kinda cryd.

As for the otaku-patheticness quotient of the story, happy to say very low: no s*avery, no actual harems really, and Rudel remains oblivious. Although I might need to mention that besides some level-up skills and being OP in general due to training as a dragon idiot, he's also picked up a book about dragon petting, integrating magic and all sorts of things... And this dragon petting skill is lethal (in a la petite mort kind of way) to people when used on them, so there's lots of implied mostly off-screen petting ecchi in the story, as applied by our oblivious MC. Eventually, the whole dragon petting arts takes over as the impetus of a lot of the plot... In a good way, I think

Ah, that last one reads as if this is an ecchi novel. It's not. The dragon petting plot things are more like martial arts plots. <<less

Great novel with good character development.

Author did great job in inserting appropriate retort and comedy in the serious situation without spoiling it.

And most importantly, great character development.

I only rated this high because I like the author's writing style and the personality of some of the characters, especially the MC and that second princess.

The story itself is quite above average too, I guess (for now).

Still, irks me a bit there's a lot of that 'petting' subplot. I admit that it's quite entertaining using it once or twice, well, it's a presented as a skill to reach his goal, but I got tired of reading lots of full-length chapters about it. This is one of those novels where... more>> I'm thankful that MC is dense instead of being a pe*verted one. <<less

The first 30 chapters were 5/5

Then I went the same old Japanese novel route. The MC remains dense as hell. He gets his own harem. No character development/ character reasoning. A shame really.... more>>
Spoiler

What really got me mad was when the author started the section of the dark Elf out of nowhere. The elf girl starts hating the MC to the point of insanity. Just some plot device the author inserts in out of nowhere. Moreover that same girl is depicted as calm and collected but breaks down after one argument with another harem member

[collapse]

At first I didn't even notice that it was a Japanese novel, that's how good it was. But you know right away when it's going down hill when the cliches starts popping up all over.

Another criticism: in one chapter, the author summarizes the chapters that come AFTER that summery chapter. Have seen this technique in a novel or two before. Never been a fan of it, and it aided in my loss of interest in this novel. <<less

I don't usually write reviews but after seeing the such high rating for this novel I decided that I would write one now.

I had only started reading this story after reading plot which could be good if used well. However the storyline is so messed up with nonsense events, world building is also not much great. I am not sure how I was able to read this till 40 chapter but this is definitely one of the worst novels I had read. World building wise it's superb, fight scenes are great, and if you read enough WN then you should know how hard it was to write a good fight scene.

Story wise it's just like Sevens, a story with a proper flow and concrete idea, but a bit lacking in

Then there's the character, oh boy. They're shallow and one dimension. Don't get me wrong, I don't say they're "inhuman" or without their own personality. They're interesting characters on they own, it's just their lack some "depth".

All and all this is a solid... more>> 7/10 story for me. <<less

This is not biased review as I've already seen the author's another work, Trapped in a Dating Sim which I really liked but this one is a let down.

First of all, this is a good story with good and funny characters. At first I enjoyed it and thought it will even get better along the way but I was wrong. The story of becoming dragoon is not fleshed out, the story is still on academy arc till chapter 70+, just constant battles between the main casts during first to fourth... more>> year and nothing big happening regarding the main plot which is becoming dragoon. Its too slow even on romance side. MC and the FMC both like each other but MC distanced himself (same as Leon in MobuSeka which is annoying and dragging the story) cuz I dont fcking know why, he just did it. Also theres some details where it just comes out of nowhere where it makes me think I missed a chapter its so s*upid. The casts are good but the way the author portrayed the story is bad, it couldve been better. <<less

This is definitely a great series with perfectly reasonable character development, the MC was not OP from the start but went little steps at a time to get stronger with basically no cheats. More importantly, despite being labelled 'harem', it is actually not so keep it in mind because there is hardly even romance to be found, and the MC is not dense, he only loves one person only.

So, I don't know who's going to have their mind changed after seeing this review. I've read this story to completion and all I can say is that, I liked it. It ended in a way I think was satisfying and gave a measure of closure to the reader. I see a lot of people hating on Rudels lack of growth, to which I say: I'm pretty sure it was said in the beginning he was s*upid and in my opinion I think he's some type of Autistic. Not full... more>> blown, but the hyperfocus, the inability to pick up on social cues and the kind of interpersonal relationships he had kinda made it seem that way and it made his character make sense to me. I also see a lot of people complaining about how certain things didn't make sense to them about why certain things were happening the way they were.

Spoiler

It's revealed at the end that this entire world was made specifically for the reincarnated MC, therefore, the world was attempting to carry out the "scenario" of his favorite game that he reincarnated into. So a lot of the incomprehensible actions taken by certain characters were things the worlds

[collapse]

That's something though that's explained more towards the end. I'm a fan of this authors writing style, having read "The world of Otome Games is tough for mobs" and "I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!" prior to this. It's not the most groundbreaking novel, but it is enjoyable and I'd recommend it if you're looking for something nice and casual to read. <<less
