Our protagonist was one day summoned to another world.

The summoner was a slender young girl who could use magic.

However, the fate that awaited him there was not a heroic tale overflowing with hopes and dreams.

“Do I perhaps have the blood of a hero destined to save this world?”

“Bzzt! Nope. Wrong answer! You are a toy with the purpose of being tortured!!”

A story of a slightly dangerous 너 (You)

and a slightly strange 나 (I)

I'm trying to understand what exactly could be reason for creating a story with interesting characters only to plague it with tons of anime references. I'm trying to understand why the backstory of the MC seems tens of times more interesting that the present story. I'm trying to understand why BL is the best backstory hobby for two underage girls. Why are there tons of cringe worthy puns? Why is everyone so detached from reality? In other words, why was there a need for another story about a summoned boy... more>> by some cliche beautiful girl? Her cruelty and obsession with gore seems so far away from her description that I can only think that the author used it only to make some sort of difference between his work and the others. Its like having two hats, one blue and one dark blue. The rest is all the same. Complex political setting? Check. Moronic friend of the female lead? Check. Ret*rded anime reference once every two or three paragraphs? Check. If the author writes four volumes about the MC's backstory with an interesting end

either him ending with his rival, or having his "deity" awake from her coma"

then he will receive ten stars. He already got three from me only for the MC backstory. <<less

Hmmm, MC was summoned to another world by a girl who's hobby is to torture people. To escape his fate of getting tortured, he tries everything he can to "entertain" and help her in various ways with his outstanding wits. A rather interesting and twisted story with noticeable character development. Overall a really entertaining and thrilling story.

A story about a witty guy summoned to another world only to become a prisoner/ torture fodder for an unreasonable crazy girl to play with. About how the MC use all kinds of witty move to preserve his life from there on out.

Its pretty interesting on how the MC smarts his way through survival.

My only gripe with this novel are that almost every other character besides the MC is a female (so far). It makes me to not take this seriously when all the problems are about a certain girl... more>> that gets a mood problem. Or a girl thats been bullied. Or a girl thats been accused. Or a dumb girl with her scheme on things that gets seen through by the MC. Or girls fighting against other girls etc2.

almost all the girls are a type of beauty (much like a harem anime). Either an older sister type. Or a loli type. Or a cool girl type. Or the yandere type. And so on. <<less

It's the novel one would have to read, not skim. Preferably to read it slowly, to enjoy. It has depth. Emotions. Things one could relay to. It is good read. (At least for me).

Crooked.

One word that can explained every single characters in this novel. Everyone had some defect in their mentality. Every single one of them are twisted in some way. One lost its important friend and its sanity, one betrayed another to protect, one killed another for the sake of greater good.

Crooked as it was, The only think they can do was just move on with their heart's scar wasn't even treated. Their hearts became full of negative feelings. Every single one of them think they're alright.

Until MC's summoned, everything changed. The... more>> MC is trying to treat their heart with his own way. He know he's crooked, but to save them and himself, he won't hesitate to use every single means. A crooked man doesn't want to another to become crooked like him.

A beautiful novel with darker concept and mind twisting plot. A crazy characters and concept make it an interesting novel to read with several insight to human's psychology. I think, this novel deserve 5 stars and applause for endearing concept and good execution. Try it, you won't regret it. <<less

First volume was great when there was fetish scenes it was understandable considering the situation, but the quality quickly declined and became filled with unnecessary fetish sh*t and lesbian maids. He becomes a s*ave to an unlikeable maid in the second volume. He lets her dominate him and even hurts his own social standing for her sake, for what reason? Never properly elaborated beyond a trite reason like empathizing with a fellow bully victim, while the MC lacked dignity and took the initiative to lick the feet of his captor... more>> in the first volume all his actions are rational because he wants to save his own life. Licking the feet of a powerless maid who is at the bottom of the social strata in the castle does not help him but in fact harmed him, a fact he recognized but continued to do so anyway. Big disappointment to find that a supposedly logical MC which was presented in the first volume lost his sense. Then in the third volume half the maids turn out to be lesbians, at this point I realized the author cares more about indulging his deviant fetishes than writing a believable world. <<less

If you at least liked the first volume of dungeon defense, then you'll definitely love at least the two volumes of this novel.

It's completely a psychological warfare like in dungeon defense. MC started in a predicament, near doom-like situation but managed to cunningly get away from it.

The best part starts from the middle-end of first volume where an unprecedented plot twist will take readers by a shock. Followed by elaborate explanation about how MC can get his reasoning and proofs, us readers will have "oh right, it was like that,... more>> I didn't realize it." kind of feel. Almost like in detective kind of genre.

Unlike dundef which is controversially debated to have gone worse starting vol 2, this one stays good and probably getting even better, at least if reviewed per chapter insted of per volume. Because vol 2 is only halfway translated as of now.

Damnit I want to read the next chapter as soon as possible. I want answers!!! That's what I get right now after reading v2c5. Everybody is on huge uproar and is debating the possibility about the huge twist and cliffhanger. What I can safely expect to get is an ultra satisfying revenge plot in the following chapters. I've read some other reviews and comments and it seems like some people are complaining about the number of anime reference. Some even asking obvious questions in the comments. What I can conclude from their statements are that either they can't understand the type of sarcasm in the novel or they simply are not smart enough to understand the context of this type of novel. Because, to some readers, those reference and type of gap conversations are refreshing and interesting. <<less

7/10 "good" novel, close to "very good". This is a Hero's/Saint and moe story masked with a "gore and thriller" setting. Note that I said "masked" and not "mixed". It's very hard to mix these genres together. The author barely pulled it off though.

Here's an example of how a moe/cute MC ruins a gore story: "I'm definitely unable to fight. I hate it after all." MC spoke and continued "That's why, if possible, I want to stop the fights that I can stop." *He intervenes in a 'small, non-lethal' fight... more>> between two maids that he just met*. This scene completely describes the MC's personality and behavior even though he's in a such a horrendous place. To me, it makes no sense. I don't hate it. In fact, I kind of admired it but.. It just doesn't make sense. The MC is a genius, and he's trying hard to survive, so why and how does he have time to think about the "NPCs"?

In short, if you were expecting a story of gore, survival, horror, thriller etc. You will be disappointed bc this novel is mostly about DRAMA. What you will get is: S&M play, otaku jokes, "moe" moments, a smart MC, a peace-loving MC, and don't forget the drama. <<less

I usually don't write review after reading at least 2 vol of a novel but I just want to get this point across: The main heroin deserve to die. I don't care what wishy washy thing the author pull, the last volume should be the MC driving a knife through the main heroin, her acknowledging her crime and commit su*cide or someone given her a death sentence. If by any point the ending "hinted" the heroin has achieved redemption and thus, live happily ever after I will change the rating... more>> to 1 star. Period.

The heroin torture people for fun. FUN. She is a serial killer, a sadist, a mu*derer and should be given no redemption.

Spoiler

According to the novel, she has been doing this for at least 4 years now. The amount of people she personally torture and kill should be way above 100 already

[collapse]

Not even half way through the first vol we are given a sneak peak at the heroin back story thus, the reason why she developed a tendency to torture people for fun. But for me, it isn't enough and isn't justified for her to just kidnap people and torture them for fun. The backstory point may isn't be for us to sympathies with her but the way the author set up for the side character to react seem otherwise.

The only interesting so far is the MC. The MC backstory alone is solid and give us plenty of reason how he could behave the way he is. So far the novel is a 4/5 for me but if I see any hint about the heroin turning back to a cheerful, loving, cute girl that deserve to live happily every after, this review will be change into 1 star. No matter what the author pull, that girl deserve death. Painless or painful, regret or peace I don't care but dead is a must. <<less

The first novel was brilliant. The writing, character interactions, worldbuilding, were all great. I would rate the first novel 5/5. The main character has an interesting backstory, is smart, does interesting things, makes power plays, and plays well off of the other characters. In the first novel.

Then... the next two novels proceed to not really progress anything or take advantage of the world the first novel established. It's not like they're bad, they're just exceedingly mediocre. I also generally don't really understand the driving force behind the main character's actions... more>> after the first novel. In the first novel, he just wants to not die, after that... I really don't even know anymore.

We're mostly treated to a semiromantic (?) sideplot that goes nowhere really, and foot fetish stuff. I'm not just talking a little, there seriously was a lot of foot fetish stuff, a lot more than I think anyone would expect. It's even probably an underlying theme of this book. It should be a tag, that's how often it appears.

Now there's all the wordplay and puns. I'm sure if I knew Korean and read the novel in Korean I would appreciate it more, but I read the English translation and I found it grating. Puns aren't a bad thing, but given their constant presence the readability of the novel in English is significantly reduced. You have pages of people talking back and forth about random sh*t that you won't understand because the phrases translate poorly. There are TL notes, but they tend to not really help.

The first novel was great, and caught my interest. The next two were mediocre, didn't really go anywhere, and seemed to focus a bit too much on pseudointellectual wordplay and foot fetishism. If you want to read this novel, I would just read the first one. <<less

PSA: I feel that the author is a huge pe*vert who has a foot fetish and likes masochism play. The story is littered with the feet licking, petting, "servicing" and humiliation play (the MC is the M) during the dialogues as if it was a normal conversation... If you find this disturbing then I would not recommend this story, however if you do, then go wild, I won't judge.

If you like crafty schemes with a physically weak but mentally strong MC. Then this is the novel for you... more>> as it differs from the usual underdog cultivation - beta harem MC settings.

The MC is a cunning and wicked person who schemes to assure his own survival even if that means controlling others by holding on their weak spots. The side characters all have a certain depth to them with their own backstories, but just like the MC, most of them are wicked too. And you'll get to know the cast more as the story goes on, because the story is quite descriptive. You'll miss a lot of things if you skim it, which I strongly advise against.

All in all I'll give it a 4/5 <<less

I binge read all the volumes.

I had fun for the most part, it was an interesting premise with some f*cked up characters (who even if they are f*cked in the head and are people you wouldn't want to meet in real life, you still love them lol).

Yujin is also a very interesting protagonist, who only has his mind and mouth to rely on. He is not a god, instead he is just a human, but also veteran who went through many psychological wars and developed him into what he is... more>> now. Although for the other characters he would seem like a perfect individual when it comes to mind games, we as reader know what he is always thinking, all the possibilities that go through his thoughts and all the desperation he felt in hopeless situation, and that is something that I absolutely love about this novel.

Spoiler

A complain I do have about this novel is that it takes too much time to build up both the story and this "world". We are already on volume 4 but what we know about Water Dragon city (or well, city of confinement) and more sole, this world, is very limited. Only at this volume is when the MC went outside the city and that was only once. I hope we get to see more of the world in the next volume.

Besides that, to be honest I'm more interested on the events of the second half of the 8-years war... the author has been teasing it through the 4 volumes and had showed us glimpses of the first half of the 8-years war in the beginning of each chapter, but we still have yet to see how Yujin got rid of his cowardice and became "twisted"

I can say this story set me for a loop and I love that. I read an impressive amount of books in all honesty around a book a day at least. Not all of them being Web novels or Light novels but some are such as this. That means that a lot of stories are very easy for me to see through. Beyond one instance in the second volume I had no idea most of the times. Things I though were going to happen based on other novels were proven... more>> to not be so. I love the writing style of being very shallow with information not always giving you enough to figure it out and then hitting you with a surprise. Though I normally do not like torture/convoluted books this one marries the two well. One where you can see why he has to be convoluted in his thoughts to avoid things, yet not tell you everything so when the twist happen you will be shocked. Though it is all plausible so you are never like what? Book should be read just for how high the quality of writing is. The plot is very interesting as well and I very much want to see how this ends. Though like I said not a genre I am normally comfortable with so I went in with the assumption I would read the first book and drop it, if it was just torture p*rn... but it is not. Do not want to spoil anything in that regards but I found it fairly enjoyable except for the torture room scenes which made me cringe. Though if you are like me in this regards I still recommend reading first book as I think you will understand why it is okay to read. Very glad I gave this book a chance based on reviews and a friends recommendation. <<less

I read this novel after Dungeon Defense, hoping for it to be just as good. Well, it isn't. It's based on psychological warfare all the same, but whereas Dungeon Defense combines it skillfully with action and comedy moments and advances with the story at a great pace, this one barely moved from the start situation in 2 volumes and relies too much on meaningless word plays to make it seem more elegant, just like a student writing an essay that has run out of things to write. Most of these... more>> 2 volumes are terribly tedious inner dialogues of the MC choke full of repetitions and dramatic ass statements. The MC also has various Death Note-like intuitions, which just reek of Deus Ex Machina. <<less

A girl who was timid and always bullied was saved by a guy, because of that she became a very capable person with a yandere-ish character. This kind of scene is not that rare in some of the novels here. Any kind of person can greatly change, and that is what happened to our MC. With a broken immature girl as her summoner, our MC needs to survive in that otherworld. You might think that this is just a common story of how he is thinking of way to survive,... more>> but it's not just that. Our MC can't be describe with just a word "wise" or "smart", he already experience to be broken that's why he knew many things. Every talk here is interesting, whether it's about his schemes, or how he helps the Earl (her summoner).

You might think that the Earl is just a girl who loves to torture person, but like I said, she is almost broken, giving false hope, not listening to others, being brutal, and being immature, it will be hard to entertain a girl like that.

Anyway this is something I really recommend, a novel which is one I can say as a "masterpiece". <<less

Writing a "smart" character is essentially impossible. Any "smart" character either becomes James Bond or Mary Sue: they always have the right answer, everything always works out for them, nothing is beyond their reach regardless if it's something they've done a thousand times or for the first time ever.

This story is of course, the same. Otherwise I wouldn't use the word impossible. However, this story does come somewhat close to what I imagine a feasible 'smart' character would do. Truthfully, it's not that the MC is smart or particularly talented,... more>> it's more like he picked a random skill in character creation that just ended up working well in his first dungeon. Like the ultra pointless "Zubat Slayer" but instead of Pallet Town he starts in a cave.

Other than my personal gripes with "smart" characters, this is actually written quite well and the personalities of the 3 characters are written in such a way that they feel fleshed out. The difficulty the MC has with the Earl is apparent, and while it's still "I rolled a natural 20 on every d20 roll" it doesn't have quite that feel to it.

I recommend reading it, it's different and interesting, and I hope there's more. <<less

It's very similar to DD but it's kinda lacking in seriousness that the conversation filled with jokes you couldn't relate to. It's a story of leading characters with a Dark past but most of the time the conversation is like banters of children.

There's cleverness in the writing of this story and some descriptions sounds poetic and deep but it's annoying how I had to dig those meanings from every paragraph aside the fact that the pacing of the story is very slow already. It's just torture as a reader.

Story: 4/5
Concept: 3/5
Style: 3/5
Character: 4.5/5
Enjoyment: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5

I kinda like the MC 'cause he's a bit similar to... more>> Lee Kiyoung and Dantalian. Weak protagonists but a monster when it comes to manipulation. But the writing is too draggy and laborious for my liking. <<less

The dialogues while seemingly smart, also feel very bloated and unrealistic.

Every statement the MC makes feels like bullshitting in an exam, you didn't learn for. His tormentors accept all his answers, as if he won in some intellectual argument, even though most of his statements are empty talk. Even in his "8 year war" of being a bullying victim in his home world, he needed 4 years to fight against the bullying, while slowly gaining allies.

Now, from the first minute, in the new world, he is somehow befriending his direct... more>> enemies, who at best do not care about him, or at worst want to torture and kill him. This is just unbelievable.

I like the concept, but it is hard to be entertained by pseudo philosophic null talk. <<less

Great psychological spin on the summoning isekai genre (ala Zero no Tsukimi) and makes it actually have possible yet exciting consequences (In terms with how Earth could be extorted of all our knowledge and resources). I would've given a 5 star if the second volume wasn't so unfocused/all over the place, but the 1st, 3rd &4th volumes more than make up for it! And yes, as mentioned in other reviews, this is a definite slow burn when compared to Dungeon Defense yet I'm a big fan of both approaches.
