When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

Okay, so WMW is definitely a hit or miss novel. You will absolutely love it or straight up hate it.

First, the whole premise of the novel is that the MC (Leylin) is a douche. None of that "for justice" or other arrogant stuff. He is selfish and he knows it.

Spoiler

In fact, during the Lava World Arc, he straight up makes fun of the "justice" trope in other novels.

[collapse]

If you don't want to read about a heartless cruel bastard who will give up others for his own gain, definitely not for you. Otherwise, this novel stands out pretty well compared to others. Leylin is actually smart, plot armor is definitely not as blatant, and once again MC is not a total idiot.

In a lot of other novels, the MC always gets c*cky, insults a big clan or cult or something, is about to die, and out of nowhere, some over powered elder who somehow got a good impression about the MC does everything in his power to help the MC. Not so much for Leylin. Leylin never bites more than he can chew. He understands what he can and can't do, he actually plans a lot of his fights ahead of time and he does not have any sudden conveniently timed breakthrough. He actually has to work pretty hard to get half of the things he has, and his trump cards are actual trump cards in that he can't abuse them forever. Limited number of times that he can use most of them.

Spoiler

Enemy magus is a rank 4 that he can't fight? Hides and gains power until he is actually strong enough to fight him. In fact he spends like hundreds of years hiding because he knows he can't take on someone.

[collapse]

It IS true that he is heavily reliant on his AI chip... but if you had an AI chip like his you would be dumb not to rely on it.

So far from what I've read, this novel is about a cruel bastard, but it is interesting, not really as repetitive and a lot of the arcs are actually really cool and well thought out. Not sure if will continue to be this way, but so far I have good hopes <<less

Rating this 3 star because it's actually pretty entertaining to read this, average story with average characters from this genre, but still better than the likes of MGA.

We get read the story of lelyin, someone who crossed into a new world with AI assistance.

Just from this very first sentence you can feel that the AI will come and do stuff the makes no sense.

... more>> The AI can do everything, It can learn new skills, conclude things on his own like how to "Rank up" for example and more.

Romance in this story is shallow, And it felt like the author only did it to give fake complexity to linley, trying to convince us that he actually has feelings and not a robot that only seeks powers.

There is nothing to add here that other people did not say, 3 Stars is an average story.

As I said, this is actually fun to read if u are bored. Don't read this expecting some complexity, this is not this kind of story. <<less

Main character is most scientific person in any of these types of novels I have ever read. His line of thinking and to know what commands to give to AI are to point at top of what I, myself, consider scientific. He is so scientific its to point you wonder if he could still be considered human. This is one of the darker ones out there. Ruthlessness and lack of emotion the main character displays is at very top of science, pursuit of knowledge no matter the cost. As for... more>> the scientific calculations those you don't see. So this isn't a physics novel. Sadly. <<less

READER BEWARE. THIS IS AN EVIL ASS MC. Our MC just kills anyone if he can gain some benefits. He won't go out of his way to help you, unless there's something in it for himself. That's just how he is. The MC is not a hero, he is not a good guy; he is just a rational, evil villain lol.

Even though he's killed so many people, I still love the story. The rank goes from Acolyte 1-3 then you process from Magi 1-9. There are different continents where... more>> certain magi averages are, like in the main central continent, there are mostly magi 1-3 pretty much everywhere, unlike a few other places where that is very rare. Our MC uses a chip that fused with his soul to do his scientific work. The chip is pretty damn amazing as well. Right now, he does settle down (he now has a wife and wants children) but he is still farrrr from accomplishing his goals. He is only a rank 4 magi, so he has a longgggg way to go. When I first started reading it, I was disgusted at how evil this dude leylin was, but you get used to his sh*t and just go on with it. <<less

In a world where everyone is always yelling, one man will stand above the rest. Leylin Farlier is our protagonist who uses his AI chip to do things that pretty much everyone else can't.

Things that I don't know which to put them are going to be in pros and cons.

Pros:
-The MC is cautious and knows his limits, he doesn't start a fight he can't win
-The MC is selfish and does everything in his power to improve himself
-It isn't finished, therefore, you get to actually participate in the... more>> chapter comments
-The AI chip makes things easier for both us and Leylin
-The MC isn't necessarily good or evil, just like I said in an earlier point, he is exceptionally selfish, which is normal for magi
-The MC is a trickster who can convince people for long periods of time that he is weak, when he is actually much more powerful
-Time skips drastically improve the flow

Cons:
-The MC is selfish and leaves behind anyone
-The world is like Skyrim, it scales with the MC like Skyrim scales it's levels to the Dragonborn
-This is far from finished, as you can see, we are currently on chapter 559 out of 1200
-The AI chip makes no goddamn sense

Ambiguous: (more controversial things)
-The AI chip is OP
-The AI chip is over powered
-THE AI CHIP IS OVER f*ckING POWERED

This has been my totally unbiased and (clearly) perfect review of Warlock of The Magus World. <<less

What a story this turned out to be!

MC is unique in this novel. Usually they turn out to be valiant heroes out to save the world fighting evil like no tomorrow, or with god like arrogance that kills all that stands in their way, or even the occasional coward who ends up insanely strong from all the "threats" he/she perceives. But this MC doesn't fit any such description. In fact, often times, from any other point of view he is simply the worst person around. A cold calculating machine who... more>> is relentless and unforgiving when it comes to developing his power. The magi world is described by the author as a ruthless world like almost any other stories in this genre, but unlike the rest where ruthless means merely more bloodshed and arrogance, magi world paints a picture of calculating, in depth characters with a very practical outlook. And the MC's power development is often a result of careful planning as opposed to the insane lucky encounters we are all too familiar with.

Overall a must read story. Awesome translations too. <<less

So I read this in its entirety, it will take some time to accept the fact that you are done with the good stuff and you gotta get back to the normal novels.

Best plot ever, consequences are real when the MC fcks up he pays dearly, MC knows when it's not his place or time and his planning will carry him throughout the story not luck.

For the weak in mind (woe to the weak in heart) this will change your psyche bit by bit till the last page. So please... more>> I mean it, always keep in mind this is a novel and thts it's all ever gonna and not to measure it with yr real life moral values. <<less

Most characters developed quite well, although some less-than-meaningful, one-dimensional baddies slip in there to move the plot along from time to time. Situations where the MC blows away tr*sh mobs happens on occasion, but definitely not to the point of getting stale.

One of the better MCs out there. Although his personality isn't as well developed as I'd like, it's not like other rebirth novels where the MC is almost like a robot, perfectly advancing from one checkpoint to the next. (*Cough KotB*)

World is developed relatively well compared to other... more>> LNs, but I feel more effort into this area would greatly improve the series. But then again, you could say the same things about virtually every LN out there.

Good use of cliffhangers makes you want more after every chapter.

Latest chapters starting to feel rushed along with lazy resolutions (read: deus ex machina). Hope the author comes up with better ways to advance the plot and slows down the pace of the plot to flesh out more of the characters.

Overall: above average. That being said, most rebirth LNs are terrible so I guess this makes WMW really good in comparison.

As it is, definitely worth following ^_^ <<less

The beginning was great. Cheat ability in a magic, school life and action. It was very fun and gave that "Harry Potter" Feeling. But this Novel goes downhill very fast.

Don't read this unless you like Cold Hearted Villain MC.. This is not worth it man. Don't read it! Absolutely don't read it! He's incredibly selfish, he abandon the adorable loli girl! He is too f*cked up.. To everyone. He's just to F*cked up..

He has no friends, he sees no one as friends. You must be his s*ave to be... more>> cared about. I hate how the Author tries to forcefully justifying as a good guy.
Spoiler

His only reason to save a girl was because they slept together... are you freaking serious? That b**ch deserved it. Its been obvious from the start that guy who took her stuff didn't love her. Even when they were together she still cheated on him with the MC. Your too much of a @sshole to people

[collapse]

I tried to explain this the best way you can understand. Stay away from this Novel. Scientist? Tch he only relies on a s*upid program and does nothing himself.

If things were written differently maybe this could had been a beautiful story... I normally don't cuss in reviews but this Author has taken it to far! So much wasted character potential... sigh <<less

Reviewed at 204 chapters, rated 3.5-->rounded up to 4.

Warlock of the Magus World could be said as CN novel with the most convenient plot armor: the AI that somehow got dragged to another world along with the MC. As other reviewers had mentioned, the AI hogged too much role and took over the limelight from the rightful MC. Despite cheaper than supermarket bargain, it became super brain, super library, mentor, free-of-jail card, and danger detector all in one. Accordingly, the omnipotent AI obstructed MC character development. On the other hand,... more>> MC aloofness caused other characters to not grow. As the result, within more than the first 200 chapters, no significant character development happened, although the premise on which MC personality was built is actually interesting.

On the plus side, though, the world construct was very exciting and the author managed to narrate the MC adventures very well. His decisiveness was cool. There's also pretty innovative plot twists, nice pace, and timely time skip intervals. For me, it's one of the novels that had hooked me up although it might be considered below par by some. <<less

Apart from a rather funny start, where the author persisted in ending every spoken sentence with exclamation marks (which made it look like every character was on cocaine) the novel progressed well, with the protagonist having a clearly defined objective and a good explanation of the "hocus pocus" with which he wants to accomplish it, a big difference from many other chinese novels where it's generally described as "cultivation" and that's all. There were all the requisited for an interesting and mature version of harry potter. Sadly, as of chapter... more>> 190, I am steadily being convinced that this novel has fallen into the deadly trap of the "infinite power-up", like almost all Chinese novels. The story keeps being centered around powering-up and the means to do it, never actually having a use for that power, other than the vague initial objective of "surviving": instead of being the means to an end, powering up ended up becoming the end. The story, albeit changing locations and background scenery, is virtually the same and doesn't evolve. The MC doesn't gain depth, all secondary characters are easily forgotten, and the narration generally gives the feeling of a to-do list, shallow and without emotion. Once you realize that, you can easily predict all chapters from 190 to 1000. <<less

Most interesting chinese novel I have ever read so far and has a very compeling story. The main character is cruel, smart, calculated and a bit of a sociopath, but is still intriguing and does somtimes show that he cares (though not very often). And then again, he may be cruel, but the world that he lives in is a cruel world.

However I would not recomend it to those that have problems with cruelty, and the world it is set in has a pretty lax attitude towards s*xual intercorse (though... more>> these sections aren't very deskriptiv). I personally don't have any problems with these, and throuthfully enjoyed it! <<less

Good enough that I want to keep reading it. Translations up to this point are good, smooth, and make sense, all the most important parts of anything translated. The MC really reminds me of a certain old guy in a few books written by R.A. Heinlein.

Typical CN. The MC is transported to another world to replace a good for nothing character. The MC also has a cheat, which in this case is an AI chip (MC:hey AI chip analyse this wide spread information that has existed for hundreds of years and use it to figure out something others have been researching for hundreds of years.

AI chip: analyzing begun. Estimated time to finish is two days.).

How does his cheat even work? If it's an AI chip then how could it figure every thing he asked with... more>> that lack of information? But to be honest here.I liked the story so far. There is not too much romance, theMC isn't trying to make a haram, and he is rational as he doesn't pick up a fight with those who are stronger than him.

So 3 stars it is. <<less

MC: Apathetic and a sociopath (the side where there is a lack of conscience not the antisocial side), a mad scientist character (the personality only, there is no scientific terms at all, I bet it will go down to another typical powerup-beatupenemies-powerupagain). Heavily dependent on his AI chip (which is very natural since its faster).

Side character development: little, you will forget them soon enough (like his family, I hope he remembers them)

World building: Little (still don't know the world map, its major powers and other locaI boss)

I took a liking to this because it gives me the same pleasure as Dragon-Marked War God. This is not a revenge-driven plot. It is simply a quest to walk the path of a Magus. At first, the main character seems almost unfeeling and highly scientific. I liked it, but recently he has formed a small hint of a conscience seen in the last few chapters 77-82. Despite this, his overall concern is his own wellbeing and his advancement. Its not a bad thing. It is definitely not a typical... more>> xianhuan to me. I believed it might have been a japanese novel at first simply because it was so different from what I normally read. It branches out later on. Its a good different. Another aspect I do like is that the character acts his age. He acts his age/experience. He's not going to stoop down to the level of the children around him. He's also not going to be used without proper compensation. For all those who like this, I recommend from greatest to lowest: The Empyrean Overlord, Dragon-Marked War God, Reincarnator, and Record of a Thousand Lives. To me, these involve maturer MCs. <<less

Overall it is a good story,

At the start it seems promising, a new look out, but.... it has it's flaws the MC is no hero but he seems like a good guy at first, at least a decent guy but the morals in this tale are really lax.... the MC turns out to be not as good and the plot although is interesting it seems flawed like it's missing something.

So far, 31 chapters. I like it. Decent worldbuilding, and characters are clear, though they haven’t had much chance to develop beyond their archetypes yet. The standard elements of Xainxia fiction are being introduced as well – with bonus points for the novel Deus Ex Machina MacGuffin that is integral to the MC’s OPness. (20 hours awake as I write this – I couldn’t resist :)

Rant ON: My complaint? I reallyreallyreally wish authors would do at least a smidgeon of research into what they write about. THE MC... more>> IS NOT A SCIENTIST. I don’t care if the author says he is. He does not act like or think like one; and it’s unpleasantly, painfully obvious. Seriously. This guy is a standard teenage chinese wish-fulfillment expy who gets a macguffin that makes being OP as simple as thinking about it. (one trivial example: an actual former scientist would have collected that black poison stuff to stick on his crossbow bolts, rather then outgassing it into his own bedroom. Also – he’d’ve bought or made better bench equipment!) I had the same problem with God of Thunder – where the MC was supposed to be an electrician who gets to play with magic electricity – and the best he can do is ‘go boom’ with it...

*sigh*

Rant OFF.

Oh well, they can’t all be ISSTH. Still an OK read, but ONLY an ok read.
EDIT: After a re-binge, I have to say, Meng Hao is a True Scientist Archetype, even if he's never once introduced as one - he has the skills. <<less

Satisfying to the extreme. Finally, a protagonist that makes full use of their faculties and doesn't flinch from their goal. Least cringe web novel I've read, miles better than Ascension of a Bookworm or other books with similar wet noodle characters.

The main character of Warlock of the Magus World is neither moralistic nor a hero, but he makes up for it with brilliantly cunning schemes. This makes the reader take his side despite the objectively awful things he does.

I finished this massive 1200 chapter novel in under a week, 5/5... more>> stars. <<less

Excellent, MC may be a psycho but at least he’s fun to watch. The variety of environments is good, with plenty of world building regarding the various power systems and story world. MC never ends up too OP which is nice. Fully translated which is a plus, length is decent to keep you occupied for a while.

overall a recommendation from me if you enjoy the villain protag angle, along with the somewhat unique take of the wizard cultivation thing.
