At ch 300+ rated 3/5. "This is dark.. And twisty.. Yeah mostly because MC isn't likeable characters.. Subjective indeed.

At ch.996. Ok, this is too dark, twisty, smart, logical and ruthless. Not only the Characters, but the world as well. Not for kids indeed.. Kids won't like it.

At ch.2000+. Still dark but it taste good. Your judgment of this novel would be different from what you thought at the begining.. Try it.

To be honest, I skipped a lot of chapters especially the first few parts as I got bored with it and some of it are really unnecessary for you to understand the flow of the story. I was actually about to give up with this but I didn't know the turning point chapter where I started to get interested but seriously things got a lot of better you just have to be patient. I really love the MC Wang Lin because for me he is kind of different in a... more>> good way from most of the mc's of the novels I read. Especially when it comes to the romance part, as Wang Lin is deeply allergic to 99.9% of the girls in the story. Lol. But this is what makes the story unique for me. This is also one of the few novels that actually made me cry so its not like any other storylines that just focuses on increasing strength, having lots of enemies while still weak then come back for revenge, harems and so much more. So it is a highly recommended novel to anyone who wants something different. <<less

One of the better novels out there. The story is MC focused, the side characters give a proper amount of dialogue and not that kind of tr*sh fill-an-entire-chapter kind of dialogue, the story is unique, the MC has intelligence and somewhat of a likable personality. The only downside is that this is one of those stories that has the MC plainly killing because someone insulted him; It seems like the story will go down the same path as ISSTH with just OP hero and MC killing people who insult him... more>> though. <<less

its alright. My only problem is the author keeps crushing his cultivation and we have togo through the same drivel again. The exception being, he changes it up a little so that MC will get a treasure item or some minor technique to help him along immediate future crisis. At time story gets overly dramatic with some weak attempt at poetry. This is also lightly tied to advance cultivation techniques where you have to understand a domain

they have to understand the Dao of their heart and heavens. So like MC is faced a lot of life and death situations so he's trying to to comprehend that in relation to universal (heaven) laws.

But it comes out as tacky to me. There is no huge philosophical depth to it. Author should probably stick to making sick as armors weapons and anything of that nature. <<less

Basically, this is a dark/tragedy xanxia story so far, where the MC becomes more twisted as the story progresses due to a stream of failures. There is 0 romance, there is 0 humor. I've read some of Er Gen's later works, and they are frankly much better, though this isn't terrible, it is very dry and the MC isn't likable at all, the world building is also really fragmented, there is a great deal of "teleporting" to destinations and poor descriptions of them. I'd give it a solid 3... more>> since it is still well written despite these major flaws. Perhaps it gets better later. <<less

Remove romance tag! This starts as pretty good novel but becomes but dull after MC leaves initial sect. Its still enjoyable but there is rarely any interaction with other people and its mostly monologue about cultivation etc...

This is kind of story that you mostly keep reading because it started pretty good, and after while it became ok.

Basically MC is super loner! And about 1/20 words is "sneer" :D

Solid novel, I read it a few years ago and I remember enjoying it. It starts slow, but then the plot escalates.

Lonely and OP MC, has a cheat item that plays a role at start. His mayor trait is his persistence.

Sometimes felt like an AI killing machine.

MC starts as a boy with strong moral values and good family. That is his core that never changes. Later, the family mostly dies, MC goes berserk with revenge and gets almost killed. When he revives, he is depressed and hollow. He saves a girl who helps him, and that is when the seed is planted and the main plot begins (badly executed imo). MC later becomes obsessed with girl, and when she finally dies, his main goal is to revive her. Even the main villain is manipulated by Mc's clone to revive her. In his journey MC kills hordes after hordes of people, but it is clear that he doesn't enjoy it (severs slauther), he doesnt like cultivating either, it's all to accomplish his goal. There are many occasions when he lives like a mortal, and it feels like he likes it a lot. Ancestor Wang Lin is a carpenter, cultivation is just a hobby, it helps him carve everything, even fate.

Immortal crybaby. Yup that's what protagonist is. I can't find it in me to sympathize with the protagonist especially after seeing how ruthless and cruel he is. And how he tries to act like a saint with bright halo after he cultivates his dao is enough to make me drop it. I can take cruel evil ones calmly and maybe even enjoy that. But I can't take it when people who are evil are portrayed as saint. And even after being hundreds of years old he can't handle his emotions and appears to be an tragic hero makes me disgusted. DON'T FRIKIN ACT LIKE AN IMMATURE BRAT. And the description like "His heat lurched up with unbearable pain" makes me annoyed. What are you trying to show? He's human? Nah man that ain't gonna work. Especially not when he's an a**hole who kills kids because he's paranoid

Wang Ling is an annoying contradiction.

Here is why

Spoiler

Wang Ling's parents died because he did not kill innocents. From that day onward he decided he would become ruthless to the point of killing innocents for his gain. As time goes on, however, Wang Ling softens up. Does he become a good guy? No. Rather he becomes your normal morally-grey MC who says, " I am cruel to my enemies but fine to those who don't harm me." This is the philosophy that god his parents killed (The innocents did not harm him so he did not kill them.), and he said he would renounce this philosophy. But here we go seeing the MC default back into his moral nature when he can.

Currently at chapter 1000 and still going.

I'm a fan of Er Gen's stories. Always loved his stories especially the quirky characters, like Lord Fifth with his love of fur or feathers, Ultimate Vexation and so on. I initially started reading ISSTH where I reached ch 1300+ but I kept reading the parallels between his other stories that were included, such as Greed, Slaughter etc.

Eventually started reading Xian Ni as it was named in the past. I liked it but I mean as quite a few other people mentioned. Although you... more>> can see some of Er Gen's Dao in the story it is still very raw, beginner phases. The MC is very serious, sometimes full of revenge, slaughter etc, showing us the gritty details of the Cultivation World, and calculating character you need to have in order to survive and progress along the cultivation path to an immortal.

I rated this as 4-stars, as in good. Because when I compare this to his newer novels, I can see that he improved quite a lot.

I'm reading this novel, and his other novels with a lot of breaks in between. <<less

This is one of the first series I read that was so long. I guess it depends on which series you read completely first but my opinion of renegade immortal is higher than others. Mainly because at some point I stopped reading it completely seriously and just enjoyed it as entertainment instead of being immersed too deeply. I guess what drove me to read after that particular point was Li Muwan and her alone.

The series is interesting but it loses charm at some point based on your patience with it.... more>> Sometimes things aren't explained clearly, other times things are just too unusual.

So many life and death scenarios for MC that their appeal eventually disappears.

Also one thing I learned is that dao is a pretty meaningless thing and that reading all the chapters about dao comprehension was a huge waste of time (eventually I started skipping dao related stuff). It might be due to the fact that my religious faith is completely different from whatever dao is driven from or the fact that dao is the most boring thing ever. Eitherway all the stuff related to dao seemed pretty meaningless.

Overall I liked this series because it satisfied the idea I was looking for, a cold-blooded MC that kills all his enemies.

I'd recommend reading the book to point where
Spoiler

Wang Lin leaves planet suzaku, the story after that is... interesting but the point where it gets uninteresting is somewhere you are in the middle of the story. The is the first proper part of the story featuring several arcs ends when he leaves the planet and its probably the most interesting one.

Great novel. Wang Lin's entire life is damn sad though, but that's sort of what makes this novel what it is. MC is smart, ruthless and cold, but not entirely 'evil'. He's somewhere in between, though this is constantly changing throughout the novel. Good character development that continues to progress.

Renegade Immortal is one of my favorite series on NU and also one of very few I've read all the way to the end. I've been reading this story for years now and I feel this bittersweet melancholy I always get when finishing a series I really enjoyed. Out of all the cultivation stories on NU, this one is one of the best if not the best in my opinion. Even though some arcs were less interesting than others, for the most part it was quite good. Even though, as... more>> the main character, Wang Lin had plot armor, it was handled so much better in this story than almost any other cultivation story I've read. In comparison, I gave up on stories like I Shall Seal the Heavens and Pursuit of the Truth, even after reading over a thousand chapters of each. I actually gave a damn what happened to Wang Lin, in comparison to most cultivation stories where I either didn't care or even disliked the main character, like in A Will Eternal. So, in essence, a large part of what made me like Renegade Immortal so much was the main character.

Another thing I really liked about the story was the mystery. Though there are large sections that are basically just standard xuanhuan arcs, there are also some plot twists that I was impressed with. Aside from that, I'm also glad that the romance/harem aspect of the story was so easy to ignore. Wang Lin never actually develops a harem thankfully, he just meets a few women over the course of the story who he spends some time with. Honestly, I'm not sure Renegade Immortal should even have a harem tag.

Overall, it's just a very solid experience. If after the first 20-30 chapters or so you don't like it, just move on to something else. If you do like those early chapters though, congratulations, because there's a heck of a lot more to read. <<less

For me, this novel got really boring really fast. There are good concepts in this novel, and the overall premise has some merit, but it is really hard to read. You spend so much time in the MC's head with almost no supporting characters to latch onto or care about. The translation quality of the novel is also pretty bad, so that may have contributed to my rating. It's at that perfect level where it isn't so bad you can't read it, but is bad enough to give you a... more>> mild headache as you read. <<less

I want to give 5 ?

Current chapter is 1966.

The journey is very long. I even reread again starting chapter 1.

... more>> So much to talk about Renegade Immortal. This is a story for mature mind and a clear objective reader

There is no other novel like this. I already try to read several other wuxia novel but nothing can satisfy my hunger like Renegade Immortal.

The road in Renegade Immortal is so long and lonely path. One can easily lost while others still struggle. A road where right or wrong is just flipped of the coin.

Happy reading. <<less

This story is bleak af. Masters take disciples to exploit them. Disciples accept masters to exploit resources until they can kill their masters. Friendship is a state where power is relatively equal until the balance is offset enough to exploit and kill the other. Romance is merely obsession. Never again Er Gen.

Extremly good novel, started reading it after finishing ISSTH. Could not stop reading and cought up in about three days. The storytelling is of the charts and it shows you how a common youth transform and becomes the current cultivator he is. After traversing the treacherous path that is cultivation. Love the MP and is by far one of my favourites of all time.
