When Theodore was dropped into a waterway by his half-brother, he suddenly recalled the memory of his past life.

He had been a Japanese citizen known as Kirishima Kagehisa, placed inside VRMMO character he had made in Break Force Online.

‘Theodore’ is a Combat Mage that Kagehisa played within BFO, and he realized his skills were progressing well even in this other world.

Theodore, who had lightly brushed off his half-brother to make his own place in the world, had ventured off to the large labyrinth existing at the Boundary City, Termuilles, to find his own place in the world.

Hey everyone this is the translator for Boundary. First off I'm not sure why people are rating this series this low, for me it's rather an enjoyable read. The only bad portion of the novel so far has been right at the very beginning, which could be seen as confusing for most people.

To unravel that part:
Spoiler

Kagehisa starts off in his apartment as usual and tries to play the VRMMORPG he plays, but he's in a bad part of the neighborhood where thieves often appear, and a thief ended up appearing in his house and accidentally killed Kagehisa so he wouldn't get exposed. Kagehisa just so happened to have his headset on which was about to connect to his game, but then his soul transferred to his game character, Theo, who happens to be a son of a Count's mistress.

The story then becomes jumbled up together as Theo tries to make out various situations and starts to experience the life of being a Noble (which is rare in Japan). After that flattens out he moves to Boundary City to make his own living and that's where the good part of the story begins.

You guys shouldn't neglect to read this novel until 30-40 chapters in, any confusion that starts would most likely get resolved. I will warn you though the author does like to go on tangents a lot. Please seriously consider this novel :)

Has a good premise but the prose is mediocre. This story is difficult to comprehend the author doesn't seem to handle the dialogue and flow of the story properly, a lot of times you will question yourself and get confused in the earlier chapters. There are many information that the author dumps but the readers could not follow most of them and gets left behind, politics can be very confusing and this is not the way to handle it.

There are also issues with point of views not handled very well... more>> that also is a factor that confused most readers. Monologue of characters are also squeezed in between dialogues, it is irritating to read.

I won't wait for it to improve it's prose, there are better stories out there that won't give you a migraine from deciphering its contents. <<less

I'll start off by saying this review is based on the english translation.

Overall, I don't think the premise of the story is lacking and it does have potential. From what I can tell the characters have a somewhat interesting background, and diving into the politics of the world can be intellectually stimulating if only it was properly translated. That said, the majority of english readers will probably find the politics to be a massive weakness in the story due to them being so confusing that it will likely give you... more>> migraines.

I just want to firmly point out that the reason why this story is hard to follow is NOT because of the author. The fault lies with the translator and their misrepresentation of certain scenes.

The lack of "TL Notes" or any other such clarifications by the translator themselves also doesn't help the situation either.
Here's a few situations that to come to mind as to where clarification could have helped to readers.

Spoiler

In the prologue the MC states that he has the mind of a 10 year old before remembering his reincarnated self (who was apparently a college student). The translated text says "More precisely, I, as Theodore, am conflicting with a 一〇-year old memory." which most people (including me) didn't even recognize because the TL failed to indicate that "一〇" means 10 in japanese.

In chapter 2, the MC mentions a swarm of Killer Ants but the Translator omits a phrase that says the Killer ants are THE SIZE OF LARGE DOGS. Without this information the following "fight against the Killer Ants" holds less of an impact because I, for one, thought the ants were suppose to be tiny.

Also, during chapter 2 the MC explains that he uses "Toujutsu" which I don't even think is a real thing. Nevertheless, this term is never explained. The correct term should be "Jōjutsu" which means "Staff/Cane techniques".
Regardless, there is no indication of what "Toujutsu" is suppose to be, so the reader has no way of knowing what the TL intends for this word to mean. You can't even google "toujutsu" since the only thing that comes up is naruto sharingans.

[collapse]

Aside from the lack of clarity, there are several parts of the chapters that will leave you scratching your head as you try to decipher what's really going on. It doesn't help that the sub-optimal translation does not fully bring out the subtle undertones of the characters' dialogues and only serves to add to the confusion by misdirecting readers on the true events that are occurring.

I wanted to give the series a shot since it was supposedly good, but I found the english translation to be literally impossible to follow due to how lacking it was in quality. That said, I have only read the early chapters so perhaps it has improved as of late (although looking at the comments/other reviews I don't believe that to be the case). Either way, if you read the early chapters as they are now you'll only end up with a confused headache, so I recommend staying away until a possible re-translation comes along. <<less

Only read 4 chapters and found it a major pain to read, the story/dialog/inner dialog is all over the place with non-connecting parts and stuff that pops up without explanation, its horrible to read.

tbh the author should learn basic story telling before even attempting to write a novel.

At first, the paragraph a bit hard to follow, and the character background is not explained enough. But the story is good if you get used to it.

Prepare some painkillers for the headache from reading this. The way the story is being told is like coming from mojo jojo himself. So many word padding that I wish translator just liberally removed to spare us the headache

Gave it a 4 because somehow I'm getting used to it but if your head is too sensitive then stay away lol

Edit: its been nothing but noble this, noble that.

Talking about nobles and marriage proposals and not even trying to get stronger or go deeper into the dungeon, this novel is too... more>> tiring.
Pro:
- The world building was great and the people on this world are neatly characterized.
- No overreaction to MC's opness, and when he duels a noble, they just made bets lol
- The MC says his feelings straight and proper and plans for the future
Con:
- Every chapter is about his inner monologue
- The main story in this novel is the politics and nobles
- They should rename this as "The uninteresting labyrinth and the foreign bastard"
- Or rename it as "The stories of nobles and MC's harem" <<less

Sighs... I really, really wanted this be good, in fact I would been satisfied if was even okay. The previous reviewers where to kind as the prose is just detrimental disappointed to the heart after reading such an interesting premise. I don't wish to make light of elementary school students, but they without any basis or malice could of certainly done better here. This isn't a read anyone should consider since you could find more legible and interesting stories on even google translate.

I wanted to really prove the 1 star reviews wrong with this one. I had just assumed that the people reviewing it saying "things didn't connect or came out of nowhere" were just not paying attention.

However that was not the case. Halfway through the fourth chapter- I had enough with the meandering, disjointed nonsense. I'm unsure if this is the author's fault / translators fault, or editor's fault, but it's very poorly presented- there's no flow and the reincarnation aspect might aswell be non-existent as it holds no bearing over... more>> the story whatsoever, except to serve as a catch-all for why a 10 year old knows magic.

It seems like the author would write something, then in the process of writing it, had already moved on to something else and so started writing that. In particular the part with the Guard Captain Oslo alleging that he didn't believe the adventurer's story that themselves and a child managed to kill a swarm of demon Ants on their way to town and that there was a disagreement between the guards and the guild- it took a few minutes of pondering to put the pieces together to where I understood what was going on because the text is sort of all over the place- I think the fault for this was actually the translation/editing so y'know.

Anyway, I've read far worse LNs/WNs for a lot longer, so take that info and do what you want with it. <<less

Maybe read the first 5 chapters and then stop!

This story had good build up, a built world, and promising characters, but shortly after you were shown a glimpse of what it could be, it quickly turns south. Not sure which would be worse. Reading this all the way through again or drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster (LOOK IT UP!). Grammatical problems, paragraph issues, word play that doesn't make sense when translated into English...

I kept waiting for it to get better. I really did! To the point where I was... more>> reading it long past the point that I could tolerate it, but except for a few brief moments of good ideas from the author I finally had to pronounce this story dead. I read until the 42nd chapter just for the sake of reference, but I won't be reading this again, nor will I come back. Sorry author & translator. <<less

... the opening of the story is kind of sad 〒▽〒 hmm, so a guy is dying, transported to his favorite game, possessing his character in-game. he strives to be a battlemage just like in his past life while enjoying his life. sometimes, the story is badly-written but in general, the plot is kind of interesting, especially with his attitude that try to be hiding his full power while considering others' actions. sometimes, I forgot that theodore's current body is of a child.

Cannot really recommend reading this, the author cannot explain the story clearly, too much uncertainty, and the phrase sometimes doesn't even make sense at all. I almost fell asleep while reading this, it's like reading history about World War II, with random things put together.

About the story, the MC cut his ties with his noble family only to end up with other girl with noble background. This girl just show up out of nowhere. Why does the MC even care about her that much? Does not make any sense too... more>> me, she's just a frail girl. Personally, too much noble s**t in this story. <<less

The story is interesting but...

It is getting harder and harder to read. The story won't make sense have I not change the tenses to present tense. Please read the following paragraph.

Although she had (has) the patience to create a semblance of a relationship with Kennel, he might run out of patience quickly if she relied (relies) on him. After thinking about this, she realized (realizes) that it was (is) still impossible to predict all the work she still had (has) to do in Schirn. However, she knew (knows) she had... more>> (has) to gain a monopoly over skilled Adventurers.

The ones in the bracket are more suitable than the original, no? The problem with the translator and the editor has is the past tense. You only use 'had' when an event is completed. Or rather, using mostly present tense makes the story easier to understand. If they put it in past tense when it is actually not, the readers will be confused. <<less

I would say the story is hard to follow in some parts, especially in the beginning I am guessing it's not the translator fault might need heavier editing to make it consumable for the majority. People struggling with it are right to complain but if you patiently power through it, the story is becoming pretty awesome. The premise and scenarios can be similar to so many that are being translated op MC reborn or stuck in a video game scenario. Personally for me it feels fresher and exciting like being... more>> reintroduce to the genre. The harem is starting and I find it adorable/cute that the MC is not pushing things along and wants to take it slow as he is building their relationship. Overall I understand the hate people have for this story but I personally think it's pretty awesome world the author is taking us to.

tl;dr hard to follow at places but the story rewards in being pretty good if you follow through. <<less

It started nice then it went totally downward.

Romance is bland like childs romance.

MC is dull like he doesn't have the word "NO" in his dictionary.

... more>> Whoever asks something to him he just says "yes" like he's a super old wise guy and helping the clueless childrens around him.

Then comes the plot "He wants to find out why he got isekaied" the most shitty quest you would want to see. What fun is there finding out why you are here? Didn't you die already? You can't go back and you have already accepted the fact.

Nah I've better isekais on my hand. <<less

I don't know if it is the author's fault or the translation (xant and minion). But since I read otger novel from that translation site, (xant and minion), I think it is most likely the author's fault. It's like reading an encrypted novel, I can understand why razgallo was having migrain, lol. Seriously, the story is interesting but you have to solve the encrypted messages first before you finally find the details about the world, the conversations between characters, etc. I recommend it for you who aspire to be... more>> detective. Lol.. I hope that the author will write in a common form in the future so that a commoner like me can read without having to rack my brain too hard. <<less

I have no idea what's going on. Suddenly there's politics and arguing in the beginning. Everyone accepts things too easily? Or whose who and who is in the dialogue.
The writing and construct is just bad. Is the Author trying to make MC look cool?
I don't understand the power or abilities, or where he's getting it from. What's the point of school when he supposedly knows everything?

I'm like literally pulling my hair trying to figure this out. I am a big follower of Xant & Minion... more>> but I hope they work on something else <<less

Normally I don't write reviews, but I almost didn't read this. I don't understand other reviewers confusion. This novel is funny without trying and an interesting read. Yes some of the back story isnt explained right at the beginning but keep reading it is explained with time. Its refreshing to leave some suspense; rather than being spoon fed the story from the beginning with nothing left to think about.

I love this story, it has stuck with me for a long time. Although there are info dumps I like that as the world has rich lore and needs to be made know for the story to progress. The world setting is what makes this memorable. I hope to see more of this story translated in the future.
