One might assume the prologue where the MC monologues on his normality is unnecessary fluff, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. While it does little to define the character - that mostly occurs in ch 1 - it quite adequately sums up the story. This is a serious attempt at exploring what happens when you put a person with no business being the MC in the role of being an MC. Using gaming as a fulcrum, the MC is lunged into love comedy-esque developments that his overall personality... more>> (e.g. Introversion, low self-esteem, etc.) simply can't keep up with. Misunderstandings ensue.

So yes, there's some drama, but it's the funny kind of drama. The s*upid kind where you say you're going first and then another guy goes "But I want to go second!" The characters more-or-less struggle for the same end goal, but through a combination of miscommunication, their own quirks, and certain love comedy contrivances (which I stress is not necessarily a bad thing), the characters miss the fact that they're on the same team leaving the reader to stare blankly wondering "How did that happen?"

The drama never feels too serious as characters (or at least the MC's friend who seems to be the most savvy) are aware of how ridiculous some of these developments can get, and no one's feelings have been hurt thus far. At the very least, everybody only has the best intentions for each other.

One thing that I can't praise enough is how colorful the cast of characters is. Each character is surprisingly diverse in their range of character traits and realistically bounce off of each other. While some of their actions may seem odd, you can never say they didn't do it for a sensible reason. <<less

This novel is surprisingly refreshing and is honestly one of the best Japanese Light Novels I have ever read. While the premise initially seems generic from the title, it's actually quite captivating and all of the characters are extremely well portrayed and interesting. I picked this up a few weeks ago and since then this has become one of my favorite series. I can't wait until more of it is translated. The quality of both of the translations are great so I really recommend this one.

The protagonists are really insightful... more>> and refreshing. No derpiness involved at all and the misunderstandings are never annoying, only hilarious when they happen. This is a solid 5/5 stars, one of the most well-written novels I've ever read.

Also, another plus is that the chapters are REALLY long so there's actually already lots of content and it's all at a really high quality, so I'm a huge fan of that.

Edit: This is a really creative and innovative novel IMO even if it is actually an oldie. This is so godly. I just finished volume 2. I can't wait for Volume 3. This is one of the best light novels I've ever read. Good lord lolol. I literally died laughing at the end of volume 2. This author is a troll (in a good way).

Also, I endorse the above review. I also really appreciate the originality of many of the characters and the interactions between them. So far, I've found that while this novel has many s*upid misunderstandings, they're actually never annoying and never go outside of my suspension of disbelief since they're always refreshingly completely justified, and they play out in very unexpected ways that I don't think I've seen before. If you want something new (that I haven't been able to find in other translated rom com novels or anime), then try this out! <<less

The misunderstandings are super cringe and honestly couldn't get through past volume 3.

Spoiler

It wasn't funny at all and the misunderstandings just revolve every character thinking that the characters they like are dating or in love with the other guy (or for the female protagonists, the other two girls). The dumbest sh*t was that the guy whom literally has dated this girl for 6 months actually has concerns about his girlfriend cheating on him with the protagonist and instead of clearing it up he just goes "oh lately I've been hanging out with my gf less since i've started hanging out with this other girl... I wonder why we don't hang out as much anymore after i've fallen even more in love with her why god why"...

Nothing much to say. The story is about a loner boy falling in love with a school idol girl. Both love playing video games.

The best part of the book is the character development of the MC from a loner to a pretty perceptive and friendly guy.

The MC is not very dense and makes the right decisions most of the times.

The misunderstandings are frustrating but are not there just for the sake of it. Every hurdle in their relationships develops the characters.

No complaints. A very enjoyable read.

Here we have another high school, slice of life LN with a gamers twist. While the plot is the same as many other LNs nowadays (ordinary/average boy and idol/goddess girl), the gaming angle makes things slightly interesting. I especially like the MC's mindset regarding gaming, i.e., playing games for fun casually and how he deals with the highly competitive and talented gamer girl. But I can't say that I am fond of gaming infodumping that comes every now and then.

Now, lets talk about characters. The MC is a loner guy... more>> like always but I appreciate his strong opinion about gaming and accepting all different kind of gamers out there. Most importantly, he is more decisive than most JP protagonists out there. He accepts Tendo (main girl) as a girlfriend early on and starts dating her. I like that about him. On the other hand, Tendo makes for a thoroughly annoying character. She doesn't trust MC after several weeks of dating him. After misunderstanding a small harmless gossip, she literally accuses MC of cheating. She acts like a girl with zero self-confidence and no redeeming qualities and its literally quite cringe. Too s*upid.

This novel uses misunderstandings as a fuel. There are so many misunderstandings and most of them are utterly ridiculous and s*upid. Its like no one in the novel trusts another. Even worse is that none of the characters seem to grow and trust another more after a misunderstanding is resolved. One after another, misunderstandings are used until the end of novel.

Spoiler

At one point, I literally started rooting for another girl Chiaki. She would be a better fit than Tendo at any time. If he had chosen Chiaki instead of Tendo, I would have rated the novel 5 stars.

Honestly I can't watch most animes right now because I cringe hard in most of them. I also dropped a lot of misunderstanding novels because they are mostly cringe.

But not this.

Where usually misunderstanding happens because of pure s*upidity in other novels, it's happening realistically here, and it's just plain hilarious. The characters are even self aware in the later volumes, that in the past they usually misunderstood, so it's probably happening again.

This novel is just too fun, definitely the best rom-com I have ever read, and even though I've read... more>> too much rom-com, none have ever been this fun.

Must read if you are a fan of rom-com. <<less

This has to be one of the best novels I have read in years, while I didn't really think much of it at the beginning, specially with such a generic name and description, this novel really hooks you in from the first volume, and even 11 volumes in the story, the novel still has me as hooked as in the beginning.

You know how a novel starts amazing, but once you get past the first few chapters /volumes, it starts to get repetitive and boring, and you just keep reading because... more>> you are invested? Not here, the story has enough twist and turns to keep things fresh, without losing what made it great at the beginning, and even when things go as you imagined, it stills leave you wanting for more.

The cast of characters is amazing, and their personalities are so well defined that you will never mix them with each other. Their growth across the story is amazing, and at the same time feels natural. Also, be warned that this story uses multiple POV across the story, so it's not always focused on the MC, but even for someone like me that hates it when stories focus on side characters, I really love to see the POV of each of the cast, so don't let that stop you.

The humor is top notch, I have a s*upid grin in my face everytime I read this novel, and I have to constantly fight against the urge to laugh out loud when I'm reading at work or around other people.

6/5 novel for me, this just defined a new standard for JP novels for me <<less

I have mixed feelings about this novel because this is the most frustrating and painful novel I've ever read while I also find it entertaining to the point where it keeps me from dropping it. I think that the majority of readers would drop this on the first two volumes because the MC is possibly one of the worse human being of the entire universe plus the annoying misunderstandings that accumulate making me loose a couple of brain cells just by reading. But, if you can get to the later... more>> volumes (4-5) you can experience the mc's growth and the novel gets progressively better although there's still some misunderstandings and some occasional info dumping.

In conclusion, read this if you are perfectly sane and mentally prepared to push through the first couple volumes. <<less
