A phoenix is a creature of legends, a wonder of the world, an imagery of life and destruction. This fabled creature signifies the rise of a hero in a virtual world where battles occur for the sake of honor and glory!

Zhang Yang was a professional gamer in the first and most fantastic game that revolutionized the world: God’s Miracle. A game where traditional knowledge in RPGs did not matter anymore, players would have to manually target and evade attacks, giving rise to a significant gap in skill between a professional and an amateur gamer.

Zhang Yang’s downfall came a little too soon. His girlfriend was snatched, his guild was harassed and disbanded, and he was even driven to commit su*cide! Jumping off the top floor of a hotel, Zhang Yang seemed as though he was soaring like a phoenix. Little did he know that the end of his life also signified his rise from the ashes.

Read to ch55:

Terrible. The story has potential, but the author seems to focus on how girls ti*s jiggle. It's really annoying. I am in no way a feminist, but women in this only talk about their ti*s and how to seduce the MC to make him work for them.

It has none of the good things from other MMO novels, no worldbuilding, except for infodumps, no wonder about the new world the MC is in. It's all so mtter of fact as if the MC was playing WoW, just with a... more>> VR set. In fact everything reminds me of WoW and other MMOs like that.

I read someone mentioned racism, I did not find that too bad, it's nothing like the author pushing bigotted opinions down your throat. The MC once mentioned that he doesn't really care for Koreans. Fair enough the MC is allowed to not like Koreans I would say.

The characters are all one dimensional. <<less

Honestly, the story is not that bad, mostly because the MC is too op you can relax through entire journey. I stopped midway because I can't tolerate the attitude of the pair cousins, so annoying it gets worse. Well, I never mind reading lots of novels knowing it's repetitive and waste of time. Some parts are enjoyable while some makes you frustrated you want to drop but that's to be expected. Because I like wasting time, it doesn't hurt to read a few chapter. Might as well broad my view... more>> of various genres to satiate my curiousness and read what interests me.

Though it's annoying to read SOME judgemental person's reviews as if they represent people, they think too highly of themselves. <<less

I give a three for the simple reason of the author actually not making one-off skills for the MC. It's entertaining at least. The whole china vs japan was done pretty well since it doesn't feel as terrible as other novels do it.

Characters... most of the side characters take one trait and maximizes it. While it's entertaining it gets boring after a while still their antics are fun to read.

Antagonists... Well, they're terrible gamers. They used money to buy their way up and failed epicly. To be honest, other than... more>> the main two antagonist, every other one is s*upid.

The skills are pretty good since the bad guys use them too. Only real bad thing about the system is the numbers. God damn most of them don't even sound possible in a vr game. Most of their battles in the first half of the novel are 20-30 minutes long then in the latter half most battles take hours.

So to sum it up:

Pros:

Entertaining plot

A reincarnation gamer story that chooses a different path in his second life

Skills are actually useful through out the story

Cons:

Other than main two antagonist, others are incredibly s*upid

game numbers sound incredibly unrealistic

endgame items are quite broken

most characters are one trick ponies in terms of personality.

Spoilers about the MC if people decide to read based on his actions.

Spoiler

He does not get with his previous life's lover. She doesn't even appear in person. I actually liked this moment of character progresssion as he lets go of his previous life and changes himself for a different future.

He also uses a lot of his knowledge from his past life throughout the story to gain an advantage and isn't forgotten about like most stories do.

The plot is repeated over and over. Same as the characters which is amusing in a way. Although MC is sometimes idiotic the storyline still has an alure to it such as the feeling of nostalgia in the end.

I can only agree with other readers that this was... average. at some point I just started skimming over almost everything, and then ended up dropping it halfway. it's not bad, but the harem isn't done well, the things he does in game don't all add up: ... more>>
Spoiler

didn't he hire that girl he slept with to be his potions maker? but then you never hear about this again and he gets recipes that are locked to him and ends up making them all himself.

First of all to tell that I generally don't write reviews, but this time I think I've to do it because to read a chapter right now you've to pay for it, and I really think is not worth it.

I can just copy and paste a lot of the reviews giving it a 2 or 1 star just because if you read them they are telling the truth and is the same in almost all the cases.

1: It becomes really repetitive. I got to a point when I just skip... more>> like 90% of the chapter because it will be the same as other fights or really bad jokes.

2:MC personality. At first you think this guy it's ok but he just goes down hill

3:All the other protagonist. At first you get the common roster big b**bed girls, loli girl, perv guy, calm guy you can add the other characteristics like being greedy, fat, icy, etc, etc, and I can actually say that it's pretty normal and you don't have to mind that, but when they don't have some kind of progress its just really bad like that little b*tchy girl that for some reason is treated like a 8 year old when she's 18.

4: Just no... really... no.

I stopped at 703 because I really didn't feel attracted to the story the only reason I kept reading was for the hope for something better but just no... and to get what they announce at the beginning, to know what the MC will do when he meets his past life girl but no, the MC just gets to a conclusion really fast about why she did that and it seems they never meet again. And right now you've to pay to read this novel so yeahh no thanks is not worth it. <<less

One of the worst novels out there. Reading this is a complete waste of time. The author really hates every other country & tried to degrade them. Please don't read this garbage & waste your precious time.

The MC is a real piece of sh*t. I didn't hate him in the beginning but when he started harassing players from other countries just because he didn't like them (Japan & Korea), I instantly started hating him.

An interesting enough read. Good to pass the time, dungeon runs and raids were fun. After a time however the story becomes very bland, repeats, is easy to predict etc.

This is the second chance mmorpg which really cemented my disdain for a genre I have really tried to keep an open mind for (but seriously if THIS is how you choose to spend your second chance, you did not deserve one).

The protagonists main goal is to- what exactly? Play a game good. Get the ladies. Profit. 650 chapters into it... more>> and I seriously couldn't tell you what the end game looks like. I am left with zero investment in the character as a result. Antagonists are always a large part of what makes a narrative enjoyable. In some respects it is the more minor antagonists - guild leaders for competitor (but not enemy) guilds are actually quite interesting and the dynamics are well done. For your more central 'BADDIES' they are far more one dimensional; as is often the case they are distorted reflections of the protagonist, rich (MC eventually) idiots driven by lust with fragile egos and a hugely inflated sense of their own importance.

Side characters are very much a case of meh (which youd expect given the scale of the cast). They serve their purpose and the males in the team at least have some moments.

The women in the story generally begin in a way that they are well constructed (not always well portrayed, but seemingly well constructed). But eventually their personalities get reduced to maybe 2 or 3 scenarios per person (often overlapping with others of his ever expanding harem). I am fairly certain that Flying Alone periodically forgets some of them exist.

As a gamer, I can appreciate the love someone has for games to the point of wanting to play them again and again, to become well known and admired (to a s*upid extent) for playing well and rake in simply staggeringly moronic amounts of money for. That said, each of these mmorpg novels seems to have literally zero comprehension of economics nor any idea of why mmorpgs do not play like a single player game (this game would suck unimaginably hard).

High levels of racism and sexism of course; not as bad as some others I have read recently, but its trying! <<less

To start off, one has to try and forget all knowledge they have in regards to MMORPGs because the author of this novel is setting new standards. Fortunately, those standards will never come to light for our MMORPGs because the author's standards are outrageous.

The game aspect of the story begins off with stat builds, the worst type of MMORPGs but seeing as the author came from those times, it would make sense that it is ingrained into the story. Although the stat build aspect dies off really quickly, the author... more>> makes up for it by giving the protagonist an extremely overpowered skill: 50% defense penetration passive skill and to top off with a skill the protagonist's class has inherently ends up at 100% defense penetration, in other words, true damage. For some reason, the company in the game didn't feel like this was overpowered and made no adjustments to the skill itself.

Another thing that boggles my mind is how the game transitions from what is seemingly a VRMMORPG to a 'MMORPG that you play with a VR headset'. Protagonist starts off by doing maneuvers that allow him to evade attacks and then after that becomes a meat shield and just takes hits. Maybe it's the writing's fault or just my assumptions.

The protagonist has been getting so much attention in the game, no one in the company bothered to investigate either. One look into the protagonist's dungeon runs will instantly find that he apparently knows all there is to know about the dungeon and it is his 'first' time entering. At one point of the story around chapter 100 or so, a character questioned the credibility of the protagonist and even bought up a plot point but up to 280+, that plot point hasn't been touched again. In fact, there's a lot of plot points in the story that could bring up much desired development are cast away the moment they're bought up.

The economy went to the gutter instantly. From poor to rich almost instantaneously.

The real life aspect of the game is average filled with cliches and generic events. Author even put in limes and lemons. Harem keeps growing too.

I don't know if it's the translator's issue or the author actually made out the personality as it is what it is. At the beginning, I got the impression that the protagonist is somewhat crude but to the point where every time he address one of his teammates, it's with b*tch. Apparently the target of this crude language is fine with it too. A pet peeve of mine is that it seems that the protagonist' team is always referred to as a gang which if you look at it from the aspect that the protagonist is literally 'cheating', then yeah I guess but it's so crude.

Everything is just crude in this story, sometimes hurts to read but if you're just bored waiting for other releases, you can give this a go for a while. It's alright. <<less

Funny enough, even though this ranks at 3rd from the bottom for novels with the MMORPG tag above 3.0, I still actively follow it. I only skim through most of it, mind you, but it's usually not a big problem cos of the fast release speed. I don't like it for the story or anything cos the story's just so-so. In fact, they don't really even follow the story. It's 99% filler. I'm fine with it tho. I just check to see what dropped from bosses. You could say it's... more>> my self-fulfillment for lucky drops cos I sure don't got the same dog-sh*t luck in games. <<less

Another of those 50/50 storys. The game parts and dungeon parts are pretty exciting, the author did his research and probably also played his share of games. Besides that it gets as worse as you expect from chinese webnovels. The backstory is "poor" rich guy not marrying the girl because an even richer guy called dips on the girl aswell. Then there is the time skip and the MC vowing to make everything right by playing games. Also, did I mention b**bs? No? Well, the author does. A lot. But... more>> the worst thing, for me, that makes me only rate this 3 stars (= read if bored, has some good parts) is the MCs dungeon party. Honestly, if I was in the MCs role, I would have kicked more than half of them already. <<less

The story is good and the development too. Well alnost everything is good but there is useless stuff like the bank robbery and the such even if it was there it should have less chapters it took way too long to end and I skipped most of it; it wasnt that interesting.
Next is the preview of the novel I hesitated to read the novel because of the phoenix part I thought it was a really bad novel just because of it but it's actually good.

Recommend it to all who like vrmmorpg novels.
That's all on my part.

Seems interesting at first but the novel just kept repeating the things that @clowred said here. With the knowledge that he knows from the future he become OP immediately and gain a lot of monetary gains too from it.

And although I like fast faced action novels but the lack of in depth character developments somehow made me to lose a bit of interest on this novel.

Well the good thing that you could expect from this novel are the funny scenes/moments from time to time

All I can say is there is so many faulty situations that absolutely bad.

And I can also say that no matter what even if you are from the future and reincarnate in the past, no matter your experiences, your body needs to adopt and trained to conduct what you wanted to do in the present. But of course I'm just stating as a matter of fact. This is a fantasy novel so nvm about that. I am just gonna say that the MC is pretty bad at handling things /... more>> planning.

I've just read the first chapter and I truly like the way he died, it's the best among all reincarnation stories. Just this death made it worth the read and I hope, it'll continue to please me.

Edit: I've finally finished reading this novel. Despite all the negatives comments, I liked reading it, it wasn't a masterpiece yet I found it entertaining.

I liked from the beginning to the end. It was a good reading with a satisfying ending (unlike immortal mortal) and I think I might even read it... more>> again from the beginning. <<less
