That man’s weak appearance actually made her to let her guard down and feel pity. She vowed, the one who made him like this, she’ll pay him thousand, no, ten thousand times back! An easy read for sure. The romance is definitely not as slow as other novels I'm currently reading. The MC is just so badass in everything she does and surprise suprise, she's not completely ignorant of Demon Wang's feelings for her (a fresh welcome). They're both quite in love with each other. And I've never seen a more awesome and badass OTP

Wonderful concept, but the story is a little bit difficult to follow for me. Mainly because of the unfortunate lack of setting and character description. The story introduce new characters in the drop of a hat, and doesn't bother to briefly explain their appearances, gender, and position for many of the characters (I find that said characters are more like side characters.). And for the more frequently mentioned characters, such as Fen Cang (I believe that's his name.. Feng Cang?), I confuse his identity with another probably male character, who's... more>> name is something along the lines of Biao Zhang. The lack of knowledge on the characters in the story, for me, has a dramatic impact on my enthusiasm and understanding of the story. A lot of names are mentioned throughout each chapter so I find myself not really knowing who they are, and, like the Feng Cang-Biao Zhang example, end up confusing a few identities. The fact that they are all Chinese names written in English really doesn't help, either. And the fact that the number of names are abundant. Furthermore, I end up re-reading parts of the chapter to understand what's going on. All in all, the story is great but is lacking in important (to me) details so far. Of course, it doesn't completely disregard details, so there is some here and there. Details on setting, I believe, are especially rare. <<less

Initial impressions after Ch3. Very early, but I want more people to support the translator in this new project.

The above summary might be daunting. This is a story about a woman who transmigrated into the body of a deceased weakling, Murong Qi Qi. The original was framed by her step-sister, punished by heavy beating and sent away to a distant nunnery to repent. Unbeknownst to her family, the weak lady actually died of her wounds; and that’s where the MC stepped in. Fortunately, the newly transmigrated MC was rescued and... more>> adopted by a fearsome sect leader. Teaching her martial arts, poisonous and medical skills, the MC took on a jianghu name that soon became infamous: Du Xian Er (The Poison Fairy).

Five years later, Murong Qi Qi was recalled to the capital to fulfill a longstanding marriage engagement to the Emperor’s son who was returning triumphantly from a military campaign as the man of the hour. On his journey home, the prince was ambushed by assassins, only to be fortuitously saved by Du Xian Er. Taken by her beauty, the prince swore to break off the existing engagement with Murong Qi Q who was considered useless in order to pursue Du Xian Er, not knowing that the two are one and the same. His disparaging remark about Murong Qi Qi was overheard by her, and thus she was more than happy to scheme for the cancellation of the engagement once she returned to the capital.

From the synopsis provided by the translator, the MC will find herself being pursued by multiple royal personages from different countries.

I guess what makes this story different than other palace drama novels is the fact that the MC is actually a powerful character, able to kill in a blink of an eye despite her status as a noble lady. The translation is well done as usual by rosyfantasy. Readers might remember the same translator who did a chunk of Chu Wang Fei. Expect the same standard and degree of care in the translation.

Looking forward for more. <<less

OMG. I have never read a novel with so many brain dead people. Yes, including our FL and ML. The only somewhat sane person was the second ML. Common sense doesn't work here. There is no logic whatsoever in anything. Basically all men fall for FL and all women fall for the ML. All of them are crazy who think that if they love someone he/she should be theirs without giving a damn about the involved party. The whole novel is all these people creating problems for ML and FL... more>> and then getting killed in a heinous way.

FL is a total mary sue. She is super OP. Everyone falls in love with her instantly for no reason. Its a love where they are ready to let go of everything to be with the FL. This is so ridiculous because it is shown as the FL is ugly, no ability to practice martial arts and not good at anything. Then suddenly our FL writes a poem and BANG everyone starts falling in love with her. There is no logic here. And the FL is the head of an assassin guild and she had no reason to come back to abusive family. It is shown she comes back to take care of a person, I thought it was a person in the family. BUT it was the empress dowager of neighboring country. Does it make any sense? There is one time, where she thinks why do people kill for power and money while she herself kills some innocent merchants to expand her business.

I couldn't grasp why the ML fell in love with the FL. There was no reason at all. It was utterly s*upid to the point I couldn't even laugh at it. He is also super OP. All women fall in love with him but he loves (TOXIC) only our FL. He just wants to kill everyone who likes the FL.

Oh there is also in*est here. When the crown prince and his sister found to be doing in*est then the whole world talks badly about them but when the FL and ML does it many people agree with it and think "wow they look so good and great together, it doesnt matter whether they are related and their love is real". Such double standards.

This is like one of those typical brain dead chinese manhwas you find which has OP FL and ML and everything revolves around them. I stopped thinking about logic and threw away my common sense after 10 chapters and just read it to pass time as I was very bored. It dint disappoint me as it was totally ridiculous until the very end.

If you are very bored with nothing to do then you can read this, if you are looking for good plot and characters and any sense of logic then this one is not for you. <<less

My guess is this was written by a teenager projecting her wants into a character.

Its soo completely unbelievable I had to drop it barely halfway into the novel. All the guys fall in love with the MC with her doing barely nothing and she's not even exceptionally pretty at that. All the other female villains are completely s*upid. Also, its just so sickening how women in here keeps getting r*ped.

There's just no rationality and logic in the way this was written. Characters are completely devoid of depth. They're just bunch... more>> of mindless idiots who either hate the MC so much or love her so much.

0 ⭐ for the story.

The one ⭐ star is for the translator who did a great job with a shitty story. <<less

Honestly, I never finished this novel. I guess I never bothered after it looks like there wouldn't be much drama.

Well, this novel is I guess what you'll assume a Chinese webnovel with such setting is going to be. It's quite childish. Honestly, 13 year-olds on wattpad could do better. If you're the type that likes the revenge, the nonstop description of the appearance of the beauty of the MC and the ml, MC being op striaght from the dot, and somewhat childish writing, go ahead and read this.

Spoiler

Honestly, I can't believe at the point where I stopped reading, literally only a few months passed like god damn. I'm also very weirded out by her being 16 and pregnant and the ML was like 25. I'm aware the MC is older than that but the ML isn't aware of that, it's weird. I mean I suppose it's historically accurate. And anything you can think of as a powerful status, the MC has that status. The girl literally transported into the world when she was like 11, how she managed to be a world renowned designer and regarded as the most powerful assassin in the span of 5-ish years is beyond me. But I suppose logic usually doesn't apply in works of fiction. Oh, and the girl turns out to be a princess.

[collapse]

I liked it before like two years back for it's fast paced, and I thought the childishness in it is not that bad but honestly looking back now, it is that bad lmao <<less

I sincerely enjoy reading this lovely novel. I have read 3 times now (just Feng Cang's and Murong Qi Qi's parts though).

Demon Wang's Favorite Fei is one of my favorite ancient novels besides Poison Genius Consort (Long Fei Ye & Han Yun Xi), Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator (He Chang Di & Chu Li An) & Chongfei Manual (Zhao Jie & Wei Lou) 💕💕

I love reading how the love between Feng Cang and Murong Qing Qing grows and gets stronger throughout the novel. They’re a precious couple.

And..., I'm pleasantly surprised and happy... more>> to read that Ming Yue Cheng & Feng Huang became a couple in the end, as they deserve each other despite of their age difference. Love prevails afterall. 💖💖

This is an okay read. If you're looking for fluffy and love, this is good, but otherwise, it isn't a masterpiece.

The plot and arcs in the story is pretty interesting, but too easily resolved. Maybe that is why there are so many?

Character-wise, everyone is pretty shallow, even the main characters. They all seem to be love obsessed. Then again this also drives a lot of the plot, so in a way it is good, yet predictable and can be boring towards the end because it keeps occurring.

Overall, it is an... more>> okay read to pass the time, though personally I won't reread it. <<less

The romance is typical of these historical novels, but I still enjoy reading it. I loved ML's dedication to MC and his earnest pursuit for her love.

Finding out about MC's background was shocking, to say the least. Granted, it's a little cliched and if you read multiple stories that follow along these twists, it's not that surprising. But some of the details in the novel made me go, wow author you really went there.

Spoiler

My literal thoughts: wow everything about MC real background got revealed in 120 in front of EVERYONE also. WOW just wow.

[collapse]

-0.4 for the mary sue-ness and annoying transformation from strong, smart modern woman to typical child-bearing lady in historical times. I love me some good ol' revenge and evil FL, but god damn, the mary sue in her really jumped out.

Spoiler

Transmigrated from the future, adopted by the head of an evil sect = heir/head of sect, knowledge of poisons, great business woman and designer of clothes and jewelry, has not 3-4, but five males supporting/falling for her. Like damn.

[collapse]

-1 for that super cliche and disgusting epilogue ending. Okay, I understand that it would be considered "normal" for these powerful/scholarly/great lineage men to get with they-just-reached-adulthood girls historically and in these novels. But come on author, why and what made you decide to have that as the ending/epilogue for them?!

Spoiler

Ending between MC's daughter and 2ML whose 26 years old older. ESPECIALLY when he literally raised her when she was 7 years old, wtf man. And MC didn't see ANYTHING wrong with this?!?!? You're from the future!!! And you didn't even like your non-related older brother liking you!!

First half made me want to kind of drop this- MC was too OP, unnecessary exclamation marks as if this was made by a child (exclamation marks continued till the end and frankly, it was a bit annoying). It also seemed like MC had no flaw. ML was a doting character and the first half made it look like he was just made to dote on MC.

++ ML said it was love at first sight, and I frankly find that confusing- a demon wang seeing (more like peeping WHERE AND... more>> WHY DID HE EVEN SEE HER, MC WERE IN HER MANOR) a girl who played erhu then suddenly falling in love at first sight?? It seemed out of character since a demon wang should be more careful, meticulous and would absolutely not 'fall in love at first sight' without knowing her character plus MC's past before transmigrating was timid and nothing special at all. It was ridiculous.

It gets better though after the plot twist. //Dont open if u dont want to read plot twist//

Spoiler

They were actually 'siblings'. No problem with that tbh, but the views of people closest to MC and ML made me ????? They supported them and in ancient china in*est is against tmoral, I cannot fathom how they could suppoet them!?? Even if they rlly weren't sibling I find it weird.

[collapse]

Second half was good. Although there were too much unnecessary drama and the novel could go without them. Just when you thought it would end, you would then realize /f*ck/ there's more. MC in second half is more human, she now has flaws, is actually falling in love, cries, basically has human emotions in comparison other MC novels which is a plus! One thing I like about this is that there's actually a process in their love life, slowly but surely (not a slow burn). They have heart to heart talk, unlike others which just directly goes to the conclusion and no process.

Ming Yue Cheng is pitiful and makes my heart ache for him. Although im not happy that he ended up with
Spoiler

Murong Qi Qi 's daughter which is 26 yrs younger than her. It's not the age, it just seem wrong to me. It would seem like im wronging the girl and I wouldn't want that for her. Which must also be why he rejected her at first.

I remember enjoying the read but I don't know why it's getting so much hate and negative rating. It's comedy with serious plot with extra extra powerful ML and fl. They are the leads it's obvious they're going to be the winner and instead of going in roundabout about it plot is pretty straightforward.

Story 3.5/5, Characters 4/5, Enjoyment 5/5, Writing 3.5/5

DWGFF is basically a story about a bunch of mortals scheming against two high-level cultivators.

While the story isn't the best it's not bad. It skips the cultivation and jumps to the FL (female lead) getting revenge for her body's previous owner and sweet love between her and the ML (male lead). The side characters are basically split between three groups; the happy group which includes the MC and all her friends and family, the inconsequentials which have little to no face time and... more>> are just background characters, and the poor saps who challenge our MC leading to a very bad ending.

Some of the outcomes for side characters are really cruel but, this ending is usually brought on by themselves. These endings are sometimes too cruel for me it fits into the overall narrative.

The writing is good but the constant use of traditional Chinese terms can be extremely overwhelming to new readers in Chinese literature. The translators and editors do a great job of trying to make sure readers are informed on the usage of the terms and the Chinese idioms.

On the whole, it's a fun story with scheming everywhere that is really enjoyable. Watching the two leads fall in love and dive into the mystery that surrounds them is fun if a little long-winded. <<less

This story doesn't have any good point to keep reading. It is like a wet cracker. Story starts of with a bad ass female protagonist who is cunning and cruel. She has a very complex background and is like a secret mafia boss but there is only few mention of that. Story evolves into a light romance, the demon husband always acting cute in front of wife, other women plotting against her, family quarrel etc. The story is not well thought out.

Female Lead 3/5

Spoiler

Murong Qi Qi kicked off the story with a very imposing character but it made you wonder why would she ask about her past 5 years after she came to the world? Surely you would have tried to find out about your body’s history right from the start not 5 years later.

Our heroine was so powerful she could practically take on a whole country and takeover by using Moyu (her Assassination organisation) and her two cash cow Tailor and Jewellery businesses. You got to wonder why would she even go back to being the supposably useless Third Daughter.

She claimed she planned to take revenge for the original owner of her body. But all she did was sit and sleep in her mansion and wait for her sisters to come and mess with her to give her justification to face slap them. The author just wanted to create more dreadful things the sisters did so she could arrange more justified gruesome endings for them.

Killing the original Murong Qi Qi was already enough reasoning to get her revenge.

Same thing when Murong Qi Qi made a declaration that if Wangye wished to break the engagement she would make his wish come true. Once again she did nothing and needed a third party Jin Mo to bu*t in.

Our heroine seemed to be the happy go lucky kind of female lead. No intelligence to scheme and go with the flow. Let the author send dumb villains her way and sort them out right away.

[collapse]

Male Lead 4/5

Spoiler

Feng Cang was quite likeable as the Male lead. If you are sick and tired of domineering Male Leads who hurt and bully our heroine. You got to like Feng Cang. Dedicated and doting lover. But his jealousy nearly ruined things for our heroine and I still don’t understand why would he be spying on Murong Qi Qi and somehow managed to fall in love with her.

[collapse]

Villains 1/5

Spoiler

The author made all the female villains insane spoilt brats. You would expect them to have some level of intelligence instead of using the same plot again and again. Aphrodisiac have been abused so many times I have lost count. Women are more scheming and are not so s*upid to be caught again and again.

The male villains are just as terrible they become so infatuated with Murong Qi Qi they seemed to have lost all sense of intelligence. These are some of the most powerful characters in the novel. If their IQ is so low the Four Kingdoms might as well have perished long before Murong Qi Qi came into existence.

The author seemed to have a sick fetish having the female villains r*ped again and again whilst losing their limbs. In comparison the men she was content to give them a quick death. In*est, homosexuality, crazy s*x games etc. Just so it gives more justification for their deaths.

Spoiler

The epilogue where MC and ML's daughter Feng Huang gets together with Ming Yue Cheng was a bit too much for me. They're 26 years apart and when they get together, she's 16 and he's 42. She's been in love with him since she was 7 years old and actually lived with him. He spoiled her like a daughter. Then when she tried to sleep with him when he was drunk, he stops her and tells her that he has only loved her mother. She then runs away and he realized his feelings for her. I know it's ancient time but still, this was a bit too weird. I liked that he was very loyal to MC but I wanted him to have a love of his own separate from this mother-daughter duo because he was such a good guy. Feng Huang will never know for sure if he loves her for her or if he loves her because she looks and acts like her mother. Also, I felt like he had more chemistry with his childhood friend, Gu Yun Wan who ended up marrying Jin Mo.

[collapse]

Just like every web novels out there, the main couple is just too perfect. MC is utterly gorgeous. She wears a human face mask to hide her beauty. Even so, all the young masters fall in love with her because of her presence. ML is noted to be devilishly beautiful that even with a curse hanging over his head, women are still throwing themselves at him. They are both known as the #1 Beauty and #1 Handsomest in the land. Obviously, both of them have several love rivals. Not only are MC and ML good looking but they have very impressive martial arts alter egos that are well known in the kung fu world.

Spoiler

MC: In her previous life, she was Yi Lian. She was adopted at the age of 5 by her adopted father and seemed to be trained as an assassin. She lived until she was 20+ only to be mu*dered by her adopted brother. The adopted brother was in love with her and when she refused him, he killed her. Her soul then transmigrated to the ancient past into the body of Murong Qi Qi. At the age of 10, Murong Qi Qi was framed, sent to a nunnery, and beaten. The original host actually died of the beating and MC woke up in this body. She lived in the nunnery for 5 years while being a disciple of the master Sir Mozun who is the leader of the Moyu sect. She takes over the sect after her master's death and is known as Du Xian'er. In these 5 years, she also trained with a doctor and became known as Lian Gonzi, a famous doctor. Using her knowledge from the future, she also becomes Guanghua Gonzi, a designer who designs both jewelry and clothing. Later, we'll find out that she is not a daughter of the Murong family. Her birth parents are Princess Ming Yue of Bei Zhou and Bei Zhou's great general Feng Xie.

ML: He grew up as Feng Cang, the son of Princess Ming Yue and great general Feng Xie. In actuality, he is their adopted son. Their real son died at birth. ML is the son of the great general's best friend, the Crown Prince of the Qin Dynasty and a princess from Dong Lu. At the time, the Qin Dynasty was being seized so his parents were killed and he was rescued by the general and grew up as Feng Cang. His martial arts alter ego is Long Ao Tian, the leader of the Fo Sheng Men sect.

[collapse]

Like a few people have already mentioned, it's not really clear when or how ML fell in love with MC. In fact, if the novel wasn't called "Demon Wang..." you wouldn't know who the ML was until 30 chapters afterward.

Spoiler

ML first appears in the flesh in Ch 13 (he's mentioned in gossips in Ch 10 regarding his curse). Ch 13 was the scene where MC was playing an instrument and singing as a bet by her half-sisters and DYY. This is also when all the young masters fell in love with her because although she isn't a beauty (hiding behind a human skin mask), she had really bright eyes and a strong presence. Hidden in the background a figure appeared with the following sentence: "The treasure he had been looking for, had actually appeared in Murong household." It doesn't explicitly explain that this is ML but who else could it be? Even so, this line is so confusing! Where did he meet her before that he's been looking for her? MC first appeared as Du Xian'er and then she returned to Xi Qi as Murong Qi Qi. He doesn't find out that she's Du Xian'er until way after they've been married. When MC came back to Xi Qi, she didn't go out of the house (as pointed out by her cousin brother) so where did ML meet her? Also, he had been referring to her as his wangfei even before her engagement with LJT was broken off and even before the Emperor's edict for the two to marry. So yeah, very confusing!

The premise of this novel is very sterotypical. Everyone is OP and the fl, as usual, is an assassin fro the 21st century transmigrated to the ancient fantasy setting. However, while the premise is nothing special, I'm also not inclined to give it a 1 star. The author worked hard to write it and the translator worked hard to translate, and I feel it isn't appropriate to not appreciate that. Give credit where credit is due. (It's really, really bloody hard to get enough motivation to do either. It's really... more>> demotivating to get 1 star reviews too.)

Now the actual story:

The story is nothing particularily special; however, there are elements where you can tell were thought out before the novel was written. These thought out areas aren't really visible if you don't physically think about them though bc the damn jealous characters don't ever seem to die. I know they were kept alive for a reason which is relevant later, but...I they really are irritating.

There are plot holes, but there are also pieces of the novel that slot together like puzzle pieces, so it's not all bad. The main attraction to this novel really isn't the action though. If you're looking for an action series with a fl, this ain't it. This entire novel seems to spin around romance. ***This is a romance novel with elements of action and drama in it not an action and drama novel with elements of romance.***

Expectations shouls be lowered if you're throwing yourself into this novel with high expectations of the oncoming battle scenes.

Next, the characters. How to put it... beautiful female lead who runs this and that noble store and this and that assassination order and has this and that famous identity, pretty, skilled maids, devilishly handsome husband and almost all male characters falling at the fl's feet...I'm not the biggest fan. However the cast is big and while almost all males fall for this FL 'peerless' face, the cast is relevant and there are twists that are sorted through well enough to make it a good read as long as you aren't thinking about the logic behind it. Almost all mls fall for someone at first sight though so... keep that in mind. Character development is there, but the characters are still pretty one dimensional. There's the mysterious background of the main characters and the mu*derous character that try to kill the FL and the back-stabbing characters, but at least time there's the tiniest level of background to them, so it's not like they're pancake flat maybe waffle flat?

In the end, I keep bashing this story, but at the same time there are things that I did like. First of which has to be the darker elements of the story. I can't say much without giving stuff away, but the story delves into many different kinds of love be it obsessive love, in*est, violent love, r*pe, torture, true love, pure love, sacraficial love, sucidal love etc. Good story for a romantic to read. I couldn't care less about the cute and fluffy love between the FL and ml, but I adore reading about yandere and twisted kinds of love (I'm normal, I promise). Then there's the elements that many other authors wouldn't dare put in. Most of the darker elements revovle around familial ties though. I still think a majority of the characters are morons with holes in the heads for brains, but it's a nice read as long as you aren't using brain cells while reading.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Spoiler

This novel conveniently skips the first 5 years of her transmigration. So we totally miss her development process as she's learning to cultivate and become the boss of the assassination order and becoming the boss of this and that shop. I hate the development process, so it's great news for me, but maybe some of you like it.

What I didn't like about this story and what you should know before investing time and effort into reading:

There are time skips. I don't mean 5 years drifted by kind of time skips. I mean one chapter a character might have been released from prison and a few chapters later they describe the scene where the character is in prison. The transition is not done smoothly or necessarily in sequential order. It can confuse people plenty when they're skipping lines when they read.

The first half of this novel is palace in-fighting. Yeah, not all of it is, but most of the first half is almost of face-slapping and don't offend this person and can't recognise mount Tai and FL will someone manage to make connections with all the bigshots of the country despite being the rubbish daughter of the prime minister. The FL will offend her one dimensional, typical hole-for-brain sister and somehow weasel her way out of all problematic situations like a bear grapping a salmon. This drug and that drug will be used, aphrodisiac will be used to rain nectar on the wrong people etc. Again... I don't know why I chose to read this novel...I hate palace intrigue.

There's in*est. A lot of it. Not necessarily with brother and sister, but even marrying between cousins is uncomfortable. Now all this 'little cousin sisters' a throwing themselve at their 'cousin brother's bed' kind of makes me grimace.

Finally, there's convenience. The kind of convenience that seems to be used in novels just to piss readers off. People will conveniently survive a massacre that killed 100% of the rest of the group. People will somehow rise from the grave like freaking zombies popping out of the grass like daisies. Poison can be used to weaken characters to be killed off, so that a battle scene doesn't need to be written. The main character who came from the 21st century as an assassin would somehow have no trouble playing the guqin and sing beautifully. I can list the amount of people I know who can play the guqin on the fingers of one hand. None! The convnience of someone being able be picked up by some poison master who somehow has a connection to a character that appears later but also is able to master all poisons and is able to detect scentless, tasteless poisons.

Ok, that's all from me. I've obviously had a very frustrating time reading this. Good read, but it can be so painful to read sometimes. <<less
