His will is tough and he is unwilling to be normal. However, his pathway was destined to be that way, being born in a small sect’s branch.

However, one day, his left eye merges with the eye of an Ancient God in an accident. From that moment on, he turns from a fish into a dragon.

He rises up like a star, walking the path of a legendary cultivator.

From being a tiny, small ant at the bottom of the world, he rises step by step, into a place full of powerful sects, strong ancient clans and countless geniuses.

Another instance when the story starts out weak but becomes superb as it progresses...

The story at start feels pretty confusing, you don't know much about the cultivation levels, the history or even the Geography. It is all explained by the author by the time when he leaves ... more>>

Lord Guanjun's palace

[collapse]

I don't want to review anything about the story as of yet since I still haven't read till ch500.

All in all, it's worth a read if you can ignore inconsistencies during the start

EDIT after 500:

So, It's a good story if you're not gonna critique everything. It has its fill of cliches, that I won't deny. But there are quite a few twists in it too. Enough to keep me interested in the story.

Romance is bleak. Very Bleak. So far, only two love interests have been confirmed by me. The rest are all women who're most likely gonna be forgotten after the arc passes.

Worldbuilding is still good. It makes sense for me. The story as of yet seems to be based on a single planet on different continents.

Tournaments arcs are a thing here, but not every arc is filled with them. There's also inheritances, a sh*t ton of them. MC doesn't get all nor does he try to. His skills are not all like Sharingan skills unlike what people keep on saying, they might have been influenced by some of them, however.

MC is pretty bland most of the time. He does control the overall situation most of the times. He does face some close-fights at times tho.

There are quite a few typos in the translation, however. (I would be glad if you report them after finding them, since it makes the experience for people who read it after you better)

All in all, I find it a good read. something that you can read if you in for casual binging... <<less

Interesting ideas with potential. Nothing really too original. A good rhythm in the action. An intelligent and resourceful MC. All in all, it should deserve a 3.5 (rounded to 4) rating at least.

But I think that the reader must have some empathy with the MC for a story to have a good rating and for me to be willing to give it some 'suspension of disbelief'.

Much more so with web novels. They can have 1000 or 2000 chapters. The time invested in them, by the reader, has to be... more>> of some quality/enjoyment.
It is worse, if one remember that, given the writing conditions of the authors, the revisions and writing quality of web novels are usually very poor.

Unfortunately, lately the MC has being having some unjustified actions (not foreshadowed in terms of plot, character moral,...) that loose all the little empathy that I had accumulated. I could ignore it and continue to seek the more positive aspects of the story. But there is a time, when one is just hurting oneself by sticking to a negative relationship with an unlikable MC.

And I am not into masochism.

A rating of 3 should be enough, before I say goodbye to this novel. <<less

I finally dropped it. I don't understand all the people who claim it gets better, this is clearly getting worse by the chapter. MC and people around him get s*upider and s*upider. Things become more and more contrived.

It has finally gotten so bad that I now give it the "literally s*upidest MC in entire novel updates website" award. Also literally the s*upidest side characters and villains. This is not an exaggeration.

Original review:

This xia story can't get any more generic. The rating I would give it has been dropping over time... more>> since everyone gets s*upider over time and things get more contrived. Ironically unlike other authors that love saying how X is a genius, this author loves saying "X is not ret*rded, therefore he can figure out this obvious thing". But it is a lie, literally every single character in this story is ret*rded.

Anyways, I am still reading it because of how bored I am, but the level of contrived sh*t and s*upidity keeps on increasing making it ever less enjoyable <<less

This novel is one of the best time-wasters. Yes, it is generic xianxia, and not very creative, common child gets an awesome cheat, and moves through sects to become super strong, all the while having to fight arrogant seniors and peers who will call the MC tr*sh and then get their asses whooped. It is common and not a story that you can savour slowly, but it is very well written and translated; fight scenes are well thought out and fun to read, also watching the MC go through his... more>> lackadaisical life acquiring OP treasures and amazing abilities also feels great. <<less

As many others have said, this is a rather generic xianxia. The whole merging with an ancient god rather than having an OP artifact/teacher is just about the only thing about this that's unique. The author also does a lot of telling rather than showing. I didn't think the rankings were all that confusing, just that the distinctions (e.g. Body strengthening --> inner energy --> bringing inner energy out of the body) the author briefly makes about each level don't really show up all that well in the actual fights.... more>> That said, this novel is pretty fast paced, and the translations are solid. That means even the useless filler arcs are done within a few chapters or less. Not EVERYONE in the story is a douche (though a lot of them are), and some people are actually sensible, reasonable characters. There's just not enough about the cultivation stages and the outside world to judge yet, but I'm looking forward to it. All in all, the story is rather superficial, and nothing is really fleshed out and detailed in depth, be it the plot or the characters. Really nice story to binge read, kinda like Dragon-Marked War God. I don't regret the 4 hours I spent reading through all of the translated chapters. <<less

I'm only a reader of the translated work, so I have not progressed far into the series as of yet, but thus far, it is entertaining and holds promise to develop well. The main char is a bit OP because of his lucky inheritance, but I imagine it will balance out and show more struggle between other OP characters who also possess inheritances or legacies or one sort or another. So far, so good :D.

An average xianxia. You have the MC who's considered weak by others, a bit*h who dumps he MC to pursue someone stronger and the MC getting something that turns him OP.

After that.... fight someone who was stronger than you a few chapters ago and defeat him, train and become stronger and then again fight someone who was stronger than you a few chapters ago and defeat him.

If you are looking for something different, you won't want to read this novel. But if you enjoy reading xianxia in general,... more>> you'll probably have fun reading this novel. <<less

I read this a while back but honestly it wasn't that bad until I lost my enjoyment for a couple of different reasons.

I was able to tolerate the generic beginning, cliched moments, arrogant villains, and the tr*shy romance because there were good fights, smart use of abilities, and power ups? Now that I think about it, thats kinda the best thing about this novel. Our MC is also pretty good, I did like him and he was pretty consistent throughout the novel. The abilities were pretty cool and I enjoyed... more>> seeing them utilized well which is surprising to see in Xianxia novels. I'm tired of swords and personally love eye abilities and archery so it was enjoyable to read those moments.

The world building was pretty standard for Xianxia novels, nothing special. MC starts in weakest place --> moves to stronger place and either enters a 'classic tournament' or fights someone/gets chased and forced to leave --> enters a stronger place and repeats. Old side characters are forgotten and I literally only remember the MC, his eye powers, the 2 girls, and Death guy, everything else was forgettable for me.

I do remember one annoying thing was the FL power-ups. MC had to work hard to get items and power-ups and the girls literally power-up for free thanks to their 'bloodline' or they get chosen by some random powerful sect and gifted items. Then MC comes along and everyone is like 'you don't deserve this chick'. Annoying af.

The memorable/best moment for me was the Death guy chasing arc around ch 700 I think? You could really feel the tension for MC and fear for his safety. Afterwards, everything for me just felt bland and nothing came to be as good. I didn't feel any more tension and I didn't see any reason to continue the novel so I dropped it.

If you value smart usage of abilities and unique abilities over literally everything else, then give this a try but don't expect any depth coming out of this novel. 3/5. <<less

TLDR: (Yes so you don't bother with this review) HUUUUUGE DISSAPOINTMENT!

The novel was promising at start but then became repetitive.

The plot became too repetitive, grabbing the MC by the nose and pulling him around from competition to competition to an inheritance, to a competition to another inheritance, etc, etc.

Spoiler

The premise of this novel was the MC's God eye (which is a full Main One). But is thrown down the drain, if you expect that the MC will be fighting other God Eyes users you will be disappointed, all God Eyes owner he faces are descendants, and besides the fight with Emperor of Death God Eyes (who is a descendant Eyes owner) , around chapter 500, there will not be another good fight in the whole novel.

The first Full Main GOD Eye owner we see is on Chapter 1, 521, 64 chapters away from the end of the Novel.

He start to fight against a Main God Eye Owner (who is the main villain) on chapter 1, 570. Still too late to salvage the shitstorm of plot I have been reading

[collapse]

Romance doesn't exist
Character Development doesn't exist
Friends MC could call Bro? Doesn't exist
Spoiler

The Cat should have been the Main Character, the interaction of the cat are the best/refreshing moments on the Novel

[collapse]

After chapter 900 the history becomes a grind (yes like a Korean MMORPG) with the repetitive plot, you just cant feel your legs and want it to be over, if you have no Skimming Skills you will be doomed.

Now on my rant to the Author:
Everyone is a ret*rd, including MC, nothing I hate most when the MC hides his cultivation, but on this novel, the MC does it the whole Way since the begging to the End, just to create the trope/cliche about everyone underestimating the MC. But it's constant over and over the MC find ppl with a cultivation slightly higher then him that underestimating him.

Later The MC start to skip Realms and Levels, he defeats up to 3-4 levels, and it turns ridiculous. Those who knows him (LI and Known ppl) increase their cultivation as well without the plot devices of the MC, and you wonder "Why the MC has to suffer all this to increase his cultivation, when X person increases the cultivation easily?"

Resume:

If you have nothing else to read. Go ahead, just go in without expect anything. <<less

Oh my dear Lord, I don't even know how to describe this sh- thing. I only finished it for the sake of my childhood, for the sake of those years which I waited for it to be translated. Before I get too emotional and started to curse this novel let me get started:

    • About the plot: I really thought it was cool when I read the summary. Like, you know, I expected some deep shit. What we get? A character with shit without depth. What happens when your character is such a dumbass? No plot in itself. Forget what you read in the summary, this thing (it would be a shame to call this wuxia, a big one at that) has nothing but a MC who is lucky star himself.
    • About the characters: You may think I complained about MC enough but hell no. Understand my pain, I've read 1585 chapters of it. His hair? Wack! His gear? Wack! His jewelry? Wack! His foot stance? Wack! The way that he talks? Wack! The way that he doesn't even like to smile? Wack! (Wack Dude, 2016)

About other dudes, there is nothing to talk about. They're emptier than the space, emptier than my sisters' stomach... Alas cat is my favorite.
    • About the timeline: The author f*cker thinks that we are immortals. Passing 30 years like it's nothing, passing 43534529 years trying to stabilize his cultivation like it's normal, DISREGARDING THOSE YEARS OF CULTIVATION HE IS NOT 100 YEARS OLD HIMSELF BUT WE GET THOSE TIMESKIPS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. God knows how many years passed in a matter of 3 seconds just because author didn't feel like writing them.
    • About the fights: Nothing. Some gay punks yell each others' names in a lustful manner, our cool MC beats them all and grabs the best girls and lets those gays cry on the floor. And yet, like getting all beaten up wasn't good enough, they follow MC like sadistic ex-boyfriends and... +18 scenes. (Don't get me wrong, full respect to LGBTQ+, I read yaoi myself)
    • About the conversations: They just repeat themselves. Like, for real. Memorize 2-3 chapters and congrats, you have total pack of King of Janitors (thanks to Just Sam Random Guy, I laughed really hard.) I just needed to read 2 sentences to skip a chapter, I can guarantee you won't miss out anything.
    • About the relationships: There are no characters, so no relationship. It's not just about romantic ones, I personally don't like reading love stories while I'm out to read some martial arts. THERE WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT TOO BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. Friendship is 0 too. You just see a guy, he says hi and goes. Epic. I can't deny actually, I liked Wuheng when he was stronger than MC, yeah just it. Then he turned into a something, irrelevant?
Guys I'm telling, I still don't know if I managed to convey my feeling through those puny puntos. I'm a bit shocked that I actually finished it.... Wow.... I would gladly give 1 star but, as I stated above, for the sake of old days and the efforts of the translator. I HOPE I WON'T SEE YOU HERE COMMENTING HOW BAD IT WAS, JUST DON'T GET STARTED. P L E A S E. Pretty please. Don't waste your time like me, go and read yaoi I can recomment some D. Gray-man, Reverend Insanity, Durarara, The Path Toward Heaven and so. Being young is nice.

By far, I like the story. I actually read it because I ran out of novels to read and I actually enjoyed it! I've dedicated my free time reading a lot of Chinese novels in many genres, and I've encountered a lot of interesting and boring books. This book is actually interesting, just don't judge it by reading few chapters. It's not like other cultivation related books where so much irrelevant information and alot of irrelevant characters. I don't like to know what the passing characters think or do that... more>> doesn't concern the MC which most cultivation-based stories focuses on.

Also, the MC of this book actually from time to time has his match. Not like some books where the MC is always superior.

Furthermore, a lot of people who rated the novel doesn't like MC's OPness. BUT they also don't like it if the MC is always defeated and weak then on the last minute becomes strong because it's actually frustrating to see MC being bullied. What's the point for him being MC if he's like the normal characters? MCs ARE ALWAYS OP BECAUSE THEY ARE MCS. THEY ARE MCs BECAUSE THEY ARE SPECIAL. IF NOT, THEN WON'T THE NOVEL BE BORING? <<less

Cliche story with a guy who gets powerful all of a sudden and adopts a calm and indifferent personality by getting struck by lightning.

The MC is your everyday op guy you can find in a lot of novels. He has no distinct traits that make him unique, and before the event that changed his life, he wasn't particularly likeable either. From what I've read so far, the MC wins practically all the time, and none of the other main or supporting characters have appealing or realistic personalities. Additionally, I can't... more>> tell if King of Gods has no romance or if the romance is just really bad.

The storyline on the mc's rise to power is decent and enjoyable if you disregard the plot holes, even if it's just like every Xuanhuan novel you can find out there; overall, I'll be nice and give 3/5. <<less

I think King of Gods isn't as bad as I read in a couple of negative reviews. After the really slow start (the 50 first chapters are basically tr*sh/ after 50 chapters it is only an okay novel, but it gets gradually better and later on it gets really good). A couple of hundreds of chapters in this novel, there are also 1 or 2 average arcs, depending on your preferences. So it isn't always on the "really good level". Regardeless it is much more enjoyable later on, than a lot of other "shounen-wuxia-novels" out there. In fact there were arcs, I thought this is the peak level for this kind of novel.

Sadly there are some other seriously negative points about this novel, which could get really frustrating. I wish I had known this points, before I started reading this novel. Now that I'm riding a tiger it is difficult to get off. ;D

If you can bear with that and the slow start just read this novel. It is really worth a shot. Here are the cons:

Spoiler
    • Power decrease later on (because of a curse)
    • MC died (because of the curse) and has to switch to a strangers body, which is A LOT weaker and younger than himself. So he has to cultivate with a strangers body all over again. At least it isn't form level 1, but of course he looses his previous bloodline.
    • The "romance" will give you probably an uncomfortable feeling at some points in the story, because of some s*upid and not understandable choices of the MC.
    • MC can't channel all of his power in some parts of the story, because of reasons.
[collapse]

Basically:

  • re cultivation
  • a little bit NTR, because of the same person, almost every time MC reaches a higher domain and they meet again (MC's childhood friend is either betrothed to someone else in the higher domain or someone likes her and wants to snatch her away, etc.)

The rating for this story is too high.

First thing you need to know, you will not find anything new or innovative here. This is a xianxia story or maybe the frame work of all xianxia stories. It's boliemic; cities and environments aren't described, fights are shit, characters aren't characters, they're archetypes for the genre. The power system in this novel isn't developed enough-fights are shit.

Again, nothing new, just borrowed. Eye powers? You know what it does? Sharringan "things". Colorful hair is in this story too (for the anime community). No... more>> lolis or milfs as of yet. Hmm, I think I might have described all of the story so far in, shit.

Almost forgot, tournament, tournament, tournaments.

3.4, good enough. <<less

Starts out rather cliché, but it's executed decently... (unlike peerless battle spirit which i've read recently but had to try my best not to drop it every other chapter)

Then there's the sect-life which might not be innovative but still a good read.

(The only point which is slightly bothersome is that they continuesly look down on his future -granted, it is what the MC wanted when entering the sect when he hid his real potential- But no matter his acomplishments (which often rivals or even excells their sect's main... more>> geniuses) Somehow the sect notices but disregards them constantly? Really sect?)

The story really picks up around chapter 200, and once the MC is forced to leave his homeland and has to explore the bigger world out there.

To the point where currently this is one of the few novels which I check up on the most for new chapters. <<less

Mediocre.

Maybe I am too spoilt on excellent cultivation novels unlike this one, such as 'A mortal's journey to immortality' that I recently read. Now that is an excellent wuxia novel.

This one is too generic, too predictable. It hasn't repeated anything yet and i've heard its got big plottwists later on and that it gets good after chapter 200. I can't wait be asked to read that far though. Although it hasn't repeated anything in its own novel, it has repeated stuff from every cultivation novel is the same way as... more>> all of them. So I'm quite bored thus the reason I'm quiting it now.
Other than that, the romance is also very bland. So far we have been introduced to a potential suitor but her significance is more as a potential suitor rather than that of a interesting character/person.
Also the fight scenes are shit. Logic is what makes good fight scenes, for an author to describe how abilities work and then show how they are used /broken in a fight is a good fightscene. Here the author just names a few random colourful amazing abilities that no one else can learn, cuz they dont have the comprehension, and randomly counters and overpowers abilities in fight scenes for no real reason. <<less

To be frank, the beginning of this novel is quite ridiculous, in that it starts off with the MC, who, with his below average talents somehow receiving an inheritance from a divine heavenly being (in the form of his left eye), which changes his life completely. Thus far in the story, it hasn't dealt much with why he was chosen, but if you're able to ignore that, this novel is quite a good read.

The characters seem to be well written, particularly the MC who is very likeable, the story seems... more>> interesting, especially given the hints that have been shown with regards to the MC's potential after receiving the inheritance and the action is quite good. One of my favourite novels to read right now and certainly one I'll be reading to completion. <<less
