“Your name is Xiao Yan? A genius in the past, now a loser. Your fiance even came over and humiliated you by breaking off the engagement? Come come come, come with master, we’ll let that brat know the meaning of don’t bully a youngster because he’s poor!”

I read all the way to the latest chapter and I think I can now properly judge this.

The beginning was amazing, I will give the Author that. The MC doesn't start off OP and because of this he has to rely on iteams, gaining strength with each person he defeats.

Then towards chapter 300, the story takes a nose dive for me, because this is the point when the MC sect is born.

... more>> I can't help but notice the huge info dump in each chapter. The inconsistency like power.

Like becoming an immortal cultivator which was supposed to be super rear. Suddenly by chapter 400 Immortal cultivator are every where. <<less

This novel has everything I like. Funny main character (mc), funny side characters, good cultivation technique, great battle scenes, good interactions between MC and side characters, great plot line development, unique treasures, but little romance. I got to say, at first I was taken back by how the author incorporated other stories into it, but as I kept reading, I found the similarities are only at the beginning. As the story progresses, the author puts his own nice twist into it.

I literally fell in love with how the author develops his characters and the way he writes about the interactions between the MC and his disciples. So funny and heartwarming! The mc's cultivation idea is profound and unique, same goes for his disciples. I really liked reading how the sect progresses further into being the top sect of the world, it leaves you feeling pretty satisfied. Overall, this novel is about the MC advancing to be the top cultivator of the world by either fighting other cultivators/sects or gaining enlightenment, while having fun teaching his disciples and developing his sect.

Does this story almost copy-paste situations from other novels? Yes, but honestly who cares? If you've read these other novels that are being copied, it helps with understanding the character, and makes it rather entertaining to see this weak guy bluff them into becoming his students. Overall, quite an entertaining novel.

Personally my biggest problem with the novel is that it has way too much Cultivator-babble (talking about how this technique reflects nature, tao, and other bs).

The MC is amusing, and at in the early chapters relies more on guile. The initial disciples are homages to the MCs of other novels, except with our MC derailing the plot. All in all it starts off relatively strong. However, eventually the babble completely takes over.

MC learns a technique, Cultivator-babble about how this technique works. This repeats endlessly, and while I normally don't mind... more>> this too much, this novel takes it way too far.

MC creates a technique by combining several other techniques. More cultivator-babble about the new technique and how profound it is. Keep in mind the MC previously learned the individual techniques, which almost definitely had their own sections of cultivator-babble in previous chapters.

MC teaches his technique to his disciples. Oh look they're all super-special, so they each have their own interpretation of the technique. Que four more sections of cultivator-babble, each explaining the disciples interpretation of the technique.

It's relatively obvious that the author is using babble to pad his word count. If you cut down the cultivator-babble to a reasonable amount, the novel would be half as long at best. <<less

One of my FAVOURITE, FAVOURITE, FAVOURITE novels!

History's Number 1 Founder is as its name suggests, it is the story of the Great World's number 1 Founder.

The essence of the story itself is nothing new, we've read it in numerous Chinese novels yet the implementation of this is very entertaining and fulfilling.

The enemies our MC comes across are numerous yet not abandoned; none of them are s*upid or foolish. All of them consist of high intelligence and have their own goals and plans. The author doesn't regress the world to accommodate... more>> the MC; its beauty is immense. Lin Feng, the MC is OP from the start, he gets powerful within a few chapters of the book even though in the beginning it was just bluffing and tricking his way through situations. Yet he becomes truly powerful as the story progresses and the cunningness that follows along with his strength renders his enemies often speechless and helpless which I absolutely adore and enjoy.

Lin Feng and his disciples' interactions were quite precious too. I loved, loved the lot of them. My personal favorite though was Wang Lin and Shi Tianhao. I quite like the two of them. But the others were equally cool, especially Xiao Yan who was mischievous in front of only Lin Feng, and Zhu Yi who was quite petty with his revenge under his scholarly demeanor.

And last but not least, Lin Feng's inner monologues are pure entertainment, as he reminds the readers he is not quite from that world. I simply adore him. Lin Feng is one of my favorite MCs so far.

VERY, VERY, VERY Recommended to those who love OP and Cunning MCs. <<less

Okay so hear me out. This novel is like a bud. Its color is okay but doesn't seem very special. However, if you take the time to let it bloom, it becomes extremely beautiful. The worldbuilding, the enemies and the battles are simply amazing. It may seem simple in the beginning but the world expands beautifully. I've never seen fights detailed like this with so much variation from any other novel.

Now, let's talk about some things others said about this novel.

1) It's a powerfantasy: Yes, it is. And a damn... more>> good one. You never feel like the MC is just handed everything without effort. It's his plans that come to fruition, no matter the circumstances through his wit that makes the power fantasy so good. Later in the novel when he grows in power the wit lessens and the power takes over (though he's still witty, he just uses it in conjunction with his power instead of using tricks).

2) The system. The system becomes a backburner the further we get into the novel. The MC slowly starts to enlighten himself and comprehend the world and the system is only used very occasionally for trump cards. Even in the beginning it's not jarring and a fun type of system, not the kind we have now in many novels where everything falls into the mc's lap, rather one where he is in constant danger.

3) The characters. Some people have complained about the lack of character in disciples etc because there are a lot of them. To that I have to say that it isn't true. In the beginning the contrast between the disciples is clear to see. Later on this contrast grows even stronger. Their emotions may dull as they become beings akin to gods, but their way of cultivation, following The Way and mastering their arts is different. Every. Single. Direct disciple has a completely different set of arts and power. This is extremely difficult to do. Most novels only thinly flesh out 2-3 characters that help the MC. The small tidbits of daily life also really help. You just need to give it a chance and actually read, not just skim.

4) Repetition: Some people complain that it's repetitive. I don't agree. Yes, there are fights but every fight has a cause and a consequence. Fights don't drop from the heavens. They are foreshadowed with plot and reasoning with every fight having an impact to the world around them.

5) The villains: They have their clear goals, with no eternal enemy or friend. Very nice. A lot more fleshed out than many novels.

Now, why is this novel not popular then if it's so great according to my own words? This is because of a mindset the author had. He didn't really take his own story seriously, it was a parody through and through of the most popular novels at the time (the 4 first disciples are all parodies of MCs in popular novels). Its only around chapter 500 that the author drops a note apologizing for not loving his own story and that he will strive to carve out his own path. It's at this point that the story explodes in quality, even tho it was already great before.

Well, if you made it this far, what are you waiting for. No nationalism, no shitty politics, no racism. You're not gonna find a chinese cultivation novel like this anymore. It's even completed, you don't have to wait, just binge it. Go on then! <<less

This is an unusual but boring novel about a guy creating a sect with the help of cheats.

I found characters to be one-dimensional, the author tried to overcome the lack of quality and character development by quantity. There are too many characters that are doing the same thing and you just lose track of who does what and why.

It is an easy mode. There are hundreds of treasures and techniques raining down in MC and his followers. All opponents are getting beaten with no tension nor suspense.

There is a very... more>> very long and pointless tournament arc.

Nah

If you want a similar but fun novel - I can recommend "Master of Untold Daos". <<less

Well, I'm not adept at writing reviews or anything so I'll keep it short

This work has the same problem that the other work of the author suffers (apart from this, I also read HSSB from the author), meaning that it delivers the " different story " that it shows in the summary, but when the story progresses to a certain point, it completely forgets what made it different from other stories and became a typical xianxia, becoming somewhat bland.

Spoiler

and this situation is much worse in the HSSB, as in that the MC similarly forgets that he has been reborn twice, totally ditching the potential of his knowledge, whereas it's a bit better with this story as the MC in this used his seemingly ridiculous knowledge that someone with bright future or the main character tier potential can be accepted as a disciple and save the precious time of the mission because, before a certain point in the story, failure means death

[collapse]

My biggest complaints about the story are not about how the MC never experiences a defeat and destroys his way through obstacles but how the novel becomes so repetitive from a certain point
Spoiler

basically whenever there is a big matter not only the MC's party don't lose anything they even became the only people who profit from the whole ordeal

[collapse]
and how the ending was so rushed with tons of very important details seemingly forgotten by the author which is annoying at best and infuriating at worst and seemingly wasting the potential of the novel, otherwise, it would have been a much, much better novel and reading experience in the whole <<less

Honestly speaking, I was surprised I enjoyed this novel. It does have it's cliches, it just comes with the genre I guess, nothing new. It is however an interesting story.

In essence, the strength of this story lies in the focus not just on the protagonist, but on his disciples as well.

All the attention wasn't solely on the MC, nor did it feel like the author was forcing the direction of the plot.

The thing that pleasantly surprised me about this novel, was there was no romance with the MC at all,... more>> however the disciples, although briefly touched upon within a few chapters, did seem to have their own love lives which I didn’t mind and quite liked.

It’s really rare to find a Chinese novel's story not clutched and forced into directions by desperate authors using romance in their plots on the MC.

The characters each had their own personalities and interests/dislikes. They felt not to far away from being real.

I also enjoyed how the author gave attention to the many characters in the novel. If someone appeared, they didn’t just exist purely as cannon fodder to be forgotten.

Overall it’s a nice novel, wherein a man transmigrates with a system to hone young disciples into the best that they can be.

And in saying that, the MC is unique in that he really did act and become a guide, a teacher and someone to be truly respected and admired.

I enjoyed this type of MC and this novel more as the author wrote this series in a way where the MC wasn’t always the one soaking in glory and stealing the spotlight. He really was like a sect leader, albeit very OP.

2.5/5 at best. Starts out ok and the concept's interesting but the author develops it into the most boring possible approach. Rather than a kingdom building type approach it instead becomes akin to a series of snippets of other novels we don't get to read through the MC's viewpoint where he also just happens to be half a fraud.

The character names and traits all blend together and none are really unique in any meaningful way.

The fights are also incredibly dry and boring.

The plot points are also all resolved by something... more>> the system just gives him, so there is no tension.

There's also some slightly sexist/problematic bits here and there which are annoying. (E.g.

  • MC has a speech on why it's a woman's duty to accept arranged marriages - cause your family gave you benefits and raised you
  • A young female/demoness character's goal is raping a guy she likes and this is played for laughs a few times

I already reached pretty far by reading mtl. Pretty much near the end, but I couldn't exactly remember at which chapter it is.

Anyways, Disregarding the average/below average work in translation (I still understood pretty nicely, I don't get why people are being a bit*h about it, even giving it bad rating, the rating in NU is for the novel, not the translation gdi.), This novel is really good.

The detail is pretty good, there are many unnecessary filler chapters, but other than that some filler chapters are actually really interesting if... more>> you're truly invested in this novel, and not just loving Lin Feng (The Master MC), but also loving all his students and grand-students, and great-grand-students. I must admit, I feel dissatisfied with some student characters, like;

Spoiler

Some girl named Luo, the true youngest disciple, making the first disciple losing his title as the youngest. I don't really like her character, she's just... there, and completely unnecessary aside for being the bridge to another reincarnated individual that Lin Feng missed, an "MC material" guy if I must say. But that's okay, because Lin Feng actually got four out of five, "I found myself four, but I missed you in the end, " Lin Feng once thought. I was desperately hoping the girl to NOT being the direct disciple, I'm okay if she's going to be a disciple to LF's disciple. She has nothing to offer except for her innate body constitution, Pure Yin Body.

No pure determination, fire prodigy, the Medicine Expert (Which LF admitted had far surpassed himself if only he's in the same level) Xiao Yan, the eldest. Not like the lucky charm, gentleman, and the teaching expert, Zhu Yi. Not the determined (Even more than XY), intelligent, savage Wang Lin, the third. Not the insanely talented and strong with full point in "Talent/Body Root" Shi Tianhao. But they're the "MC materials", so that's okay if you're not like them.

Now going to the non-MC, there's Yang Qing who proved to be the most down-to-earth one, he also controlled the king of all Primordial Water, see? He's very brilliant with a balanced Yin and Yang, XY already covered the Primordial Flames' area, it's good to have some water also.

Yue Hongyan is the first girl. I love her character, battle-hardened, determined, savage, cold to others except for her master and fellow disciples, she's a main girl that I'd love to read. A battle genius because she's honed in the battlefield.

Then there's the Formation genius, We have an alchemist genius which suppressed the grandmasters in the matter of several years (Yeah, spoiler), we have a literate gentleman which is just too good in his literature, we have a determined guy who comprehended the concept of life and death, we need some defense. What could be better for that aside for a Formation Genius? He's very useful to be in the direct line of defense

Spoiler

(In fact, when LF was gone to breakthrough and the other sects pitched together to attack the Sect, he was the only one who held up the formation defenses to help the eldest, Xiao Yan, to hold off the attackers. The other disciples are either in a closed off cultivation or currently away, but trying to rush back as fast as they could. Which is the reason I respect Xiao Yan, he always held up the responsibility of being the eldest very well, even though he always ended up to be the one who got the worst injury. And also the reason why I also respect the formation guy, even though I forgot his name.)

[collapse]

And after all those dazzling stars, I just couldn't see where this Luo Girl fitted. Whereas the others are S and A+ characters. She's just there as... a B+ character with dazzling innate talent? She only pushed to A-grade character because she's under Lin Feng, most of the time, I even forgot she was there if it wasn't because the Author kept trying to have a fluffy relief and praised her senselessly.

[collapse]

The other characters are fine. The grandstudents are all good little children, my favourites are;

Spoiler

The students under Xiao Yan, because they're all laid back and very relatable, like Liu Xiafeng and his laziness despite being one of the respected role models to the earlier second generation students. Tang Jun, the true direct disciple of Xiao yan which only appear far away into the story, has a great affinity to Fire. He and Xiao Yan are practically like Xiao Yan to Lin Feng, relaxed and like to joke around.

And then, there's Tang Jun's student, which also appeared far away into the story, a genius alchemist which Xiao Yan took as his Medicine Boy. The boy knew practically everything about XY's habit in concocting pill, when XY pulled a shocking move to beat back all those grandpas in alchemy he was the only one who didn't look surprised (except for LF and few fellow disciples) that Xiao Yan purposefully downgrading his pills to create a demon pill tribulation, which if done right, will improve the pill's grade to the very top. But VERY risky and dangerous.

[collapse]

This novel is a must read. If you love good plot, pace, and a xianxia's fan overall. <<less

There is a distinct divide between the beginning of the story and the rest of it thus far. In the beginning, the MC is a faker who bluffs about being strong and cheats his way through everything with whatever mystical items he has. Although he is a liar and a scam artist, he becomes a "teacher." If interpreted as a standard story, he doesn't fit the moral requires to be a teacher. As a parody, it works, but it's just not very funny. Later on, he develops true strength and... more>> doesn't have to cheat and bluff his way through everything, but this part of the story has a very different feel from the beginning.

The character development isn't bad, but it isn't written in an exciting way. The battles and fights are nice, but they become so ridiculous over time that they're hard to get into and hard to visualize. The characters manifest architecture and use that to fight. If it only happened with one character, it might have more impact for comedical purposes because all of the other characters would be like "wtf bbq did that fxer get that building from???" but that doesn't happen. It's a lot of, "My magic item is stronger than yours!" Of course, the MC or his team wins every single time, which drains the tension tremendously. It would've been fine as a short story or even a short series, but it gets exhausting after hundreds and hundreds of chapters.

The story gets quite draggy as the complicated histories of numerous sects and characters are reiterated time and time again. Lately, I've come to skim through most of the chapters I come across and have begun to seriously consider dropping the series. The plot has become weak by this point, and it's not holding my interest. The comedy has a few good moments but not enough to keep my interest.

If it was intended to be a parody, I think it lost sight of its original goal. If it was meant to be a story, then the plot is too weak to keep it going. <<less

It is nice to read this.

Besides Library of Heaven's Path, this one is good too, Both has almost the same idea, but this one, History's Number 1 Founder focuses on establishing a sect.

First, If you have no idea what this is about. MC was tasked to form the best sect ever.
Library of Heaven's Path on the other hand, in some ways are similar, in that, MC of both titles are teachers. But this novel, HN1F, is more focused on a certain goal.

Now that you have an idea,... more>> let me continue.

It is nice to read from being a disciple, now I can watch it from the teacher's perspective. And also. I hope you have read some other novels, you might stumble upon them in here. Haha. This is japanese Isekai-game concept written with chinese settings and chinese fantasy xuanhuan. It is an intressting novel and I recommend to read the first 20 or so chapters to see if you like it or not. Me, I like this one a lot. The romance part for our main character (the teacher) seems non-existant. I think that is ok for this novel. It's leaves to find out in the future for there are many chapters left.

Edit: And thankfully Qidian picked this up. When the other gave up. - Problem... more>> is. The translation is a bit bad. Grammar are many times horrible. Such a shame. Translation is not a bit, it is bad. Weird wording, gender-bender all the time. A female character were gender changed several times, or was it male character? You get what I mean?

There are action and adventure, but also some mysteries that are not fully revealed right from the start leaving some stuffs for us to explore and come to understanding along the journey. They cultivate with a system with slight references from other novels. There is love, companionship, and brotherhood. His disciples that he picks up are references from other chinese novels.

Now I'm just nitpicking, but from chapter 1 and all the way to translator change to qidian, the grammar is not perfect, but understandable. Even Qidian is showing some faults here and there. For example missing words, or writing him/his instead of her, mixing up the gender word several times and never learn and other weird gramma errors that makes the reading weird. Even up above chapter 200 I still find in many lines where the translation are weird.

I always emphasize on the his/him - her/hers. As a western reader who dont know what names are usually for females/males in chinese, it is important to me that they are consitant on the right word so I know which gender each character are. - Qidian Translator fails really hard. This drops the quality <<less

I love this one because among the list of novels I'm reading this one for me is a relaxing read along with "library of heaven's path", how I wish I could binge read 100 chapters of these two everyday. So far the only annoying thing is names of cultivation arts or mantras and occasionally appearing one or two paragraphs about them which I just ignore.

I read this novel mostly for the funny moments in it. I read it in bursts of 15-50 chapters. When they are released over the days.... more>> As with LOHP, I don't know who among u may or maynot like it, but it's worth giving it a try probably.

Edit: dropped it. Saved a 100 ch to binge read, but having read 16 more ch (some where in 300s) I dropped it. Will still rate it 4/5 as I simply got annoyed by the cultivation techniques and their so called cool sounding names and bags of info. I don't like skipping paragraphs as it disrupts the flow and well it wasnt relaxing so I dropped it. <<less

My actual rating is 4.5.

So what if one day you were thrown in a world that you often read in books and given a system that forces you to make the strongest sect in the entire universe, to do that the system will lead you through giving you missions and also providing you with achievements system, if not able to fulfill in a given time your soul will be destroyed by the system. And the worse thing being you are just someone of the lower rung of cultivation world with... more>> very little power in the beginning.

The MC is not very strong in the beginning chapters, he uses wits and underhanded techniques to fight people stronger than him, and fools the talents from some of the famous novels to become his disciples as he don't want to die in 1 year, and as everyone know each of the MC shoulder a lot of trouble with them, which now burden our MC.

He is someone from our world, and is not much older, but he easily and very SWAGly fools everyone around him giving everyone the illusion of a world class expert this made me think what kind of person he was in our world (maybe a con artist?) This novels is comedy gold, he makes fun of every trope, from the legendary Harem trope to the old grandpa tropes and the rivalry it causes between him and the grandpas's.

The MC's ultimate goal is to become the strongest GrandPa in the universe which effectively works with the system's goal to create the strongest sect.

The 4 main Disciples are down in the list

1st disciple- ShiXiaodao MC from perfect world with all the background story same, and the same personality too of being an as*hole brat.

2nd disciple- Xiao Yan from BTTH having his personality toned down a bit a being a bit more likable than the original novel, he cultivates the fire as usual.

3rd disciple- Zhu yi from the novel Shen Mu, a genius in arts like Meng hao, but it is more emphasized in this novel.

4th disciple- Wang Lin from my all time favorite Renegade Immortal, he will not be as strong he was in the original novel (as other 3 disciple are much stronger than their novel counterparts), his personality will not degrade in this iteration due to our Grandpa MC.
Spoiler

His power may never be the same as before as able to create a whole universe just by dreaming.

[collapse]
, but his simmered down version is good to read too, There will not be any tragedies in this one than his counterpart.

What future holds for this novel, I will not say it. As I love it a lot, and this is not a fanfiction, instead it is much more. the story is totally original with interesting characters.

P.S. the 0.5 points that I deducted was because of the powerless version of Wang Lin and the replacement of the Heaven Revolting Bead (I am a big fan....)

Conspiracy theory- Maybe the system is created by Wang Lin's clone, and as we all know his original personality, it can tell us why the system is so strict. <<less

I absolutely love this novel, since despite being a parody of various popular novels of the xuanhuan and xianxia genre, it also manges to be a solid story on its own.

My only real complaint is that the translation of this novel is currently dead, as the original translator dopped it near the end of 2016 and the guy who picked it up only released two chapters before also dropping it at the end of 2016.

Unless someone once again picks it up, I recommend not to read it, otherwise you'll only... more>> get depressed when you reach the last translated chapter. <<less

I find the fact that the MC basically takes in MCs of other popular CNs as disciples hilarious. The novel has great plot, characters, comedy and makes you wish for more (too bad no new translated chapters have been released in a while). The MC is also very likable, at least in the way he BS out of every situation. The novel has a bit of a game element aspect to it because of the quests and items, but it's a nice change from the "adventuring and finding a load... more>> of treasures" compared to other novels. <<less

It's not just a parody of the xianxia genre, but a direct spoof of some other stories (like Battle Through The Heavens) where the main characters are used. The main characters are the same characters in these other stories; not even the names are changed.
It's basically crossover fanfiction.

I had high hopes for it due to the reviews, but didn't find the plot or jokes very interesting. I found it sort of dry, and was turned off when I read specific names like Xiao Yan and Yanran. I don't... more>> mind characters based on other characters, but when it's a direct copy... not so much. (I'm not really a fan of crossovers).

Not sure if I just didn't read far enough, but I'm dropping it for now anyway. Maybe someone can convince me otherwise... (For reference, I like the humor in My Disciple Died Yet Again, and I didn't mind going through the "boring" beginning of I Shall Seal The Heavens.)

However, I do want to say that the translation quality is quite good, with helpful translation notes. <<less
