The problem?.. This game doesn’t end after one playthrough.

Jun is prepared to guide Fabian through the second playthrough to the true ending when… Fabian abandons her.

Now Grand Duke Mayer Knox—captain of the Dark Knights and the secret final boss—is determined to have her join his party.

Can Jun turn the final boss into the main character?

Why is Mayer Knox so intent on having her at his party?

And when will these rumors about her being his lover stop?!

All manhwa story starter kit in one pack.

Even though a little bit cliche template, the story has a plot and the development of characters are good (except the ML, he's already OP from start).

It's kind of short, worth to read when commuting.

I think the author might be actually mentally challenged

It doesnt take a high intellect to do the basic math, if you have a party of 10 people and you can do a 30% buff, that means you alone increase the parties efficiency as much as 3 others members combined

Yet for some reason idiot MC lets people sh*t on her and for some reason people dont like having someone in the party that will buff and heal them without demanding anything in return

So its hard to take her problems seriously, she... more>> could just not buff them in a dungeon once and either they would change their tune or they wouldve proved to be so obscenely s*upid she shouldve kicked them out of the party anyway

And then we have the protag, who to save I guess a day choose not to recruit the doormat idiot buffer who will work like a s*ave, massively benefit his team and let them treat her like sh*t with 0 demands

That means he is also just completely and utterly mentally subhuman

MC also instantly assumes he betrayed her like this, which was right, but she shouldve guessed that the ML showing up out of nowhere and protag not doing so should mean he blocked the protag from showing up, because thats the obvious way that wouldve turned out, but no she makes the dumbest inferance and it turns out to be right, because shes dumb, the protag is obscenely dumb and the author is dumb <<less

Really liked this one!

Spoiler
  • The relationship between Mayer and Jun is nice and healthy wherein they respect each other, communicate, and work through their misunderstandings
  • While they are special to each other, their worlds aren’t narrow and they have meaningful friendship and relationships with the rest of the cast
  • MC and her superstar team are so cute😭🥺 they honestly deserve the world and you definitely root for them as the series goes on
  • Its enjoyable how it shows the process of MC and her crew getting stronger, how they put the time and effort into training, etc. And how not everything is easy even though it’s MC’s (technically) third life
  • The characters experience setbacks, doubts, uncertainty, etc. But overcome it and become stronger (oftentimes with the aid of their comrades)
  • Everybody’s got each other’s backs. If you’re a fan of found family you’ll love this!
  • I found it refreshing how at the end MC lets her half-brother and family go by erasing their memories of her. In usual plots like this MC will either kill/imprison/exile them, or the half-sibling falls under the care of MC and abandons their family. Idk I just thought it was a nice touch.
  • Wish there was more about the Goddess and the Demon King though, especially since it implies the Demon King only tried to end the world to be together with the Goddess
  • Mayer is such a sweetie 10/10
  • Mayer + Jun avoiding each other as they awkwardly navigated their feelings? I felt that

Really loving this story.

Great translation quality, interesting characters, interesting worldbuilding and abilities.

MC transmigrates into the body of a generally weak member of the cast of recruitable characters in an rpg game (i sort of imagined it something like fire emblem or dragon quest?). With her knowledge of the game she strives to help the games protagonist and his crew grow stronger. She goes above and beyond the line of duty to prepare for defeating the demon lord, with the knowledge that the world will reset for the second playthrough the... more>> first time you defeat the boss. The story starts at the beginning of this reset, where she waits for the game protagonist to come rescue her, except it's a different person that comes to her rescue. The final boss! He who carries the core of the demon lord, will become the final boss after the demon lord is defeated. How will she escape the bad ending now? <<less

The book itself is amazing. Especially if you like dungeon type stories.

But, the translator has divided each chapter into 4-5 parts. It's showing 120 chapters now, but it's only like 20 something chapters. I feel so cheated😢

Oh, but the translation quality is quite good.

Initially tried reading this because the setting was interesting. But the rest of the story was disappointing.

There was a conflict with the villagers in the first few chapters but the resolution wasn't very cathartic.

Does not dive deep enough into dungeon/party play for those who might be interested in this.

... more>> Little progress on romance on the emotional side so far. No clue the specific reason why the ML is acting so favorably towards the MC.

Most importantly, it is extremely frustrating reading about the ML's repeated childish jealousy and overprotectiveness and also the MC's worthless arguments with him about it.

Well. If you like that sort of ML, then this novel may be the one for you. <<less

WARNING: The shoujo tag is misleading. The focus is FULLY on dungeon clearing stuff.
2 stars just because I enjoyed it for a while. First, here are the things I appreciated:
-FL decides not to jump on the conclusions based on what she played before, real quick.
-tr*shy family stuff was cut short.
-ML is a softy for FL from the beginning.
-Side characters are diverse and lots of fun.

Here are the negatives that made me nearly drop this novel:
-I can't see how FL's ability is a low-skill one. The story is a bit weird about that. A support type has more talents than anybody else in the universe. It didn't make the slightest sense.
-I wish they could focus on romance drama a lot more than fantasy-rpg stuff. Especially after ch 150s, I was so bored of it that I started to skim the story.
-Fabian is so petty that it's hard to take him seriously. I don't get how she saw her as a hero in the first round.
-I expected some romance in action but none was delivered. Well they confessed and all but it felt like it was all in the background. I don't know if the romance stuff was delivered in side stories because I couldn't care less to finish them. I just wanted to close this book.
-Really loved the characters but the story didn't satisfy me at all, there is danger constantly but all the action was underwhelming: Supposedly physically weak FL goes on 6 month missions "constantly" and comes back unharmed and not even tired. Sure they have a healer but even healers have limits in this story.

Nobody "good" was really harmed so the illusion was broken.

That's it, I'm very sad about the fact that I found this story bothersome to finish.

One of THE worse ML I had a distste to read! Shes passive and like cucumber water, tasteless!

The pace of the novel is HORRIBLE, 8 chapters in to start moving from the first scene! For gods sake NOTHING HAPPENS and her monologue is pure PAIN!

Shes a vice-captain and let low ranked soldiers talk bad around her, doing NOTHING... again Just more monologue and no action, nothing to put respect she need in such high position.

Fabian was right, I too would dump her at first oportunity!

I gave it a 5* for the nice reading experience and a good, eloquently explained plot. Tbh, it is not a solid 5 if you are looking for complex world building, epic battle of skills and wits, but if you are looking for a entertaining, short yet intriguing story in-between your other novels, then this one is highly recommended. There are quite a few cliche, but it's given lol

The FL, Jun Karentia is a support-type mage with many dungeon diving skills up her sleeve, but not absolutely over powerful, her... more>> cheat comes from her information and her wits are her weapon. At the first few chapters, she can come off a little annoying but she get better, fast. She is definitely the strong type MC despite having no physical strength or offensive magic of her own. <<less

Chapter 100 onwards isn't free on word excerpt something website so translated changes.
the new translation website: continue from chapter 53.

okay, now for the review.
frankly I didn't start this novel for the romance. (s*upid right? It's literally a romance novel). But yea, I cl**ked on accident and decided to give it a go cause I was bored and had no intention to prepare for finals. And here I am binging it now.

it's is a MAJOR SLOW BURN so if you are not the type to enjoy that, I'll ask you to think again before starting.
BUT-

The world building is great. The focus is mainly on the main characters but the involvement of others is also there and makes it interesting.
The world building and the slight comedic aspect is what got me hooked honestly.

id say give it a go and you'd know if it's your type or not.

Edit: guys. I definitely do think you should give it a go but I started a few other romance novels too along with this and after reading about six of them, it turns out romance genre is not for me... so yea I'm dropping this... I really loved the world building and all but all the very slight romantic elements are cringing me out...

Cute story and excellent translation. This is good if you need something entertaining that is not too plot heavy or angsty.

The story is unique. The FL transmigrates into a video game that she played back in her world. In the game, the story follows a hero as he fights the demon lord. During the play, the game resets after the first play and the hero has to start over again training to defeat him a second time on a harder mode. It's during this reset that the FL is abandoned... more>> by the hero.

With that as the premise, I thought the story would be about the FL getting revenge on the hero who betrayed her but its not really about that (at least as of chapter 104). Instead the story focuses on the FL and how she is going to make the ML's companions grow in strength. She doesn't seem intent on revenge or any other goal but beating the demon lord and being on the winning team which makes the story a bit one dimensional.

The ML is cute. I love how he has regrets and shows his pain and fears to the FL. I also love how oblivious he is that he is head over heals in love with the FL.

Overall, however, because the FL and ML's relationship is a bit too slow for my taste and the plot is shallow washout much angst or emotion I only give this a rating 7/10. <<less

FL/ML relationship is very good and they actually communicate which was very, very refreshing. ML a little slow on the uptake but once he realizes it, he's able to clearly and verbally convey his feelings to the FL pretty quickly. Romantic misunderstandings pretty much stop as soon as ML makes his confession and doesn't become a stumbling block for them. Satisfying relationship, satisfying ending. I thought the overall pacing of the story was quite good too.

Translation is not great, the writing is pretty dumb and doesn't flow well. Feels "cheap" and low effort.

Examples with very minor spoilers ahead:

Spoiler

The story concept as exaplined in the first chapter or so is such: The FL is an NPC in an RPG game and she first meets the protagonist of the game when the villagers force her into a dangerous dungeon even though she is a support mage with no offense or defence capabilites somehow so she is basically a sacrifice. The protagonist arrives just in time to save her, she helps him and they join together, years pass, they fight the demon lord, then the world reverts, but before the world reverts the FL and the protagonist agree to meet again.

The protagonist betrays her, but really he just decided not to come to the dungeon again, the one who allowed herself to be led to a dungeon where she can only die for the second time is the FL. Why would she do that ? Even if she knows she will probably survive, why take the risk? She even explicitly said she could have avoided being led to the dungeon, but decided not to...

Moreover, since they agreed to meet again, wouldn't the protagonist come at least a day before she almost dies ? Once he didn't arrive before the critical life-threatning moment, isn't this an obvious sign he won't be coming at all ? Why would they even decide to meet in the dungeon just because this is what happened the last time? We know he came back significant amount of time before, since he made enough actions for the Duke (the MC) to notice he remembers his past life. Out FL is a neglected child hated by her entire village (because of course she is), why didn't she ask him to come as soon as possible ?

Also, the trope support magic would be considered useless and be actively despised is killing me. In a farming village, someone being able to cast buffs and healing spells should be 100 times more useful then someone who can throw a fireball. What am I gonna do with a fireball in the field ?

Another example is that somehow she spent years with a company of people including the protagonist, supporting them with magic all the time in extremely difficult battles providing strategy and magic buffs, but no one noticed and they don't appreciate her at all, feeling only disdain for her. Disdain! How is that even possible ? Is there no one that was saved because she cast Haste or Heal on them ? This is just the dumbest trope. And she didn't care! She didn't care people treated her like sh*t for years (!) because time will reset. Who is willing to be treated like sh*t for years just because of that ? Especially when presumably it should be "easy" to fix since in her eyes, the protagonist did appreciate her. Why wouldn't she ask him to say/do something ?

This is like the opposite of victim blaming, where a person just begs to be a victim, refusing to do even the most basic mundane things any non braindead human being or just mammal would do. Like advocating for youreslf or getting angry when facing injustice. If you are this empty of a vessel, why did she even hide information from the protagonist in the first place ? If she trusted him so completely... obvioulsy she didn't, but then... why... Why?

This kind of lazy dumb writing is everywhere, all the time. Just annoying.

great story so far!

FL has a unique personality, unlike most romantic fantasy novels. She's kinda cold, calculation and just plain pragmatic, but definitely not a villainess but someone who is simply very determined to 'win', to kill the demon lord. Both main characters are interesting, I like the storyline and world, even though there hasn't been much worldbuilding aside from "this is an RPG game".

it's well worth the read.

A solid translation for a promising story. Alas, the chapters are a tad short. If you are able to accept the chapter-length, you'll probably enjoy this story a lot if the first two chapters are anything to go by.

The significant points, for me, are:

  • Upper tier translation, way above the usual (for me?) badly edited mtl mess.
  • Story simple an straightforward, a few hijinks, and nobody has a such obvious plot armour that being dense as a brick does not blow up in their face immediately.
  • likeable characters on the whole.
  • No insufferable misunderstandings.
  • Protagonists actually know how to communicate what they feel.
I would have liked more chapters on the team grind, to flesh out the kids, the world and the relationships, even with Jun, though. I like there was no bs, but... more>> in retrospect, the setting is a bit dry and flat.

Also, It didn't really bother me, but one funny dumb premise here is that support mages, defined as "cannot heal, attack or defend, plus tr*sh stats" would be looked down upon, when boy, they can at the very minimum cast damage absorption, damage reflection, xp boost, percentage stat boosts, illusions, plus some attacks attribute enchantments, and that's only what we've seen, because based on the definition, they would also get stuff like levitation, teleportation, invisibility, the works. They are the most broken teammate a seven-player party would want. And our heroine is of course even more broken than that. <<less

This is the best. No question. I really really love the healthy relationship between the two leads. I love how the ML has so much FL energy while definitely bring an ML, and the FL has so much ML energy while being distinctly FL. I read till the third book and boy I'm loving every second of it.

The fluffy misunderstandings, fluffy mostly in the reader's view. And the absolute duality of teddy bear Mayer and big bear Mayer is to die for.

And the comedy is just up my taste buds.

Spoiler

I absolutely love seeing reverend August's exasperation towards the realization that his superior has absolutely zero EQ while going jealous husband mode towards Jun.

My boy Mayer is someone with, unexpectedly, low self-esteem and zero knowledge about love due to his tragic childhood. And seeing him slowly learning about his feelings towards Jun is just so cute and moving I totally feel like a mama bear.

A nice, light read :]

Romance

Jun (MC) is a strong-willed, stubborn character. She knows what she wants and always has her goals in mind. This makes Meyer (ML) a good pair for her because he's similarly ambitious and regards her abilities highly. They're both equally dense though, so much that the author included a tiny gag about how Jun acts like a typical romance lead that everyone (me) likes to criticise. The bulk of the novel is Jun trying to rationalise/berate Meyer for being overprotective and socially inept,... more>> while Meyer fails to understand that he's being Weird (and later on, Why he's being Weird). The Good Stuff occurs in the last quarter of the novel, and even then it doesn't really take the spotlight for long. I liked that the leads actually communicated (Ultra Rare in romance novels) and were able to settle their problems "quickly". I say this in quotes because

Spoiler

in the canonical timeline it takes about a month or two, but the author is so generous with timeskips that it's usually resolved either within or slightly over a chapter.

[collapse]

Background Lore

The worldbuilding is decent (the bar is underground) for a romance fantasy - there are brief mentions of the dungeon ecosystem and the mobs it houses, as well as different character classes. That's about it though. The dungeon crawling in the novel is vague and usually occurs in the form of character dialogue or brief descriptions of what they did. Skills are named and Jun casts spells, but every dungeon scene can be summarised:

    1. Jun says they will go to the dungeon
    2. Meyer is overprotective and Axion (Very Strong Fire Wizard) wants to come but he is too OP
    3. Sevi (Youngest Child) complains before and during the dungeon, Juelieta (Middle Child) is macing something, Nova (Oldest Son) sometimes banters with Sevi. August (Religious Man) makes a dry remark, and Began (Kind Uncle) is a nice old man
    4. Level up, timeskip a few months after they clear some dungeons
The dungeon scenes aren't really used for worldbuilding, but more for establishing the different characters' tropes and personality types.

On the topic of tropes, there was an attempt to subvert some of the common RPG character picks. There's August, a priest that isn't skinny because he tempers his body in the name of St. Marianne; Axion, a flame mage that acts c*cky in fights but is actually just a big magic nerd; Julieta, a shy monk in training that becomes a Mace-wielder. Nowadays, these aren't as uncommon anymore though. Because of the pretty large cast, the characters were given short backstories (some tragic, some normal) that were resolved within a chapter or two. The author really plays into the found family trope, which backfires because after the main story,

Spoiler

Jun doesn't really interact with any of them outside of Sevi.

[collapse]

Characters

The main villain, Fabian, is so mid. Like yeah, his dialogue is scummy and he's a terrible person. That's it lmao. Nothing much to say about him because he's very 2-dimensional.

The large cast made it really hard to develop the characters evenly and well. I really wanted to read more about August and Axion.

On August:

Spoiler

His main role in the novel is to mediate between the leads. That's because his character archetype is a stoic guy that is very blunt. Thankfully he isn't there to create a love triangle, because the author always emphasises through his dialogue that his only love is praying and St. Marianne. He's either used as a gag (i.e. Jun finds him weird because he somehow manages to justify all his actions in the name of god he worships) or a someone who spurs Jun to take action to improve her relationship with Meyer. I wish we learned more about his backstory (there is none), but there's nothing to him aside from he is Very Religious and has Dry Humor.

[collapse]

On Axion:

Spoiler

I wish the author used him more to expound on the Magic Lore since he likes to talk about magic so much. I also wanted the author to address what he does/how he feels after the war, especially since St. Marianne said that magic would eventually die out since she's no longer around to give blessings to people. Not to mention, there was so much of him nagging Jun to go dungeon crawling with him, but it never actually happens. Even the fake dating arc was boring because the author didn't write about whether he and Jun spent time together, let alone the details of their fake relationship (like. Not even a mention of how they started dating aside from "6 months ago"). If you're gonna include a fake dating arc then at least let it have some impact on the story, or include some funky dialogue about them coming up with the fake deets. It didn't even further the Jun-Meyer relationship because Meyer knew it was fake the whole time GAHHHHH. Anyway. Axion is just a silly little guy and I wanted to know more. Alas, he was relegated to the Jester role.

[collapse]

On Tragula:

Spoiler

I liked Tragula. He was someone who was shackled by his past mistakes, and I'm happy that he was able to break free from his abusive relationship with that weird countess. I especially enjoyed the few paragraphs in the last side story, about him and his son :]

[collapse]

On Jun:

Spoiler

Nawt gonna lie. I laughed when it was revealed she was just a Jun enjoyer in her previous life. The whole reason she transmigrated was because she was the only one who finished the game with a max-level support wizard in her party. All because she liked Jun. She's so Real. I, too, keep characters in my main roster because I like them, and not for the stats.

maybe i'll get hit by a truck too and become sylvain jose gautier fire emblem because I kept him in rotation for every battle

[collapse]

On Meyer:

Spoiler

He's like. Perfect. He respects Jun and her boundaries, and the memorandum thing about only dating after defeating the demon king was so funny. Me personally I would not sign that but I suppose he loved her enough to wait for her. It's sweet but also kind of pitiful how he molds himself into Jun's ideal type after he asks her about it though. Every interaction after she answers his ideal type question is just like. He hears that she likes obedient men so he stops voicing his concerns. I suppose it's because he trusts her more, but I just don't really like the idea of it? It's also funny that he basically becomes a trophy husband by the end of the novel. Like slayyy keep on earning money with your black knight merch? Good on him for finding a purpose outside of dungeon crawling I guess?? It felt like he became a gag character at the end of the novel. That is his fate as a puppy dog male lead I suppose.

[collapse]

The novel is neat and I finished it in one sitting. It's not perfect, but definitely in the upper ranks of KR romance fantasy novels. I'd recommend it as something to pass the time with :] <<less

It's nice, the FL is smart and makes sure she reaches her goals. The ML is powerful and he doesn't really let his trauma interfere with his goal. I haven't read to the point of romance, but I can say they're cute. Especially with the way they both try to help each other. They might not be completely to my taste but they are nice together.
