Professor System has issued a mission: to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel “The Exceptional Furnace”.

Song ‘Scholar-Tyrant’ Qingshi: “Don’t worry, Professor! I can definitely ensure the patient’s recovery!”

In the Immortal Realm:

Song Qingshi praised from the bottom of his heart: “My patient is the kindest and most beautiful little angel in the world.”

Yue Wuhuan quietly washed the blood from his hands and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi swore from the bottom of his heart: “As a doctor, I will never covet nor take advantage of my beautiful patient!”

Yue Wuhuan took full and complete advantage of the doctor and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi affirmed from the bottom of his heart: “Under my loving care, the patient will never be blackened!”

Yue Wuhuan secretly hid his monstrously evil thoughts and smiled softly: “En.”

At that inextinguishable summit, upon thousand and thousands of soul lamps, he sat on the god’s throne of white bone, guarding that piece of stone.

“You are the only one in this world who treats me tenderly.”

“And so, you are the only one I treat tenderly.”

Scholar-tyrant Song was absolutely delighted: “Professor! Can I get full marks?”

Professor System exploded: “You fool! You saved the wrong person!”

For the first couple of chapters, I was struggling following the story, but I'm glad I kept on reading because this is such a good story. This is such a rare novel where it focuses on healing broken characters that could be "beyond repair". I really like the main character, his naivety and curiosity makes him very likable and makes you see things in different ways. I like the fact that both characters understand and help each other out in a mature way and the fact that they don't drag... more>> any misunderstandings but have a proper adult-like conversation to build trust and to find solutions together. I often see in novels where the authors try to add r*pe into the story but have the MC/ML save the character to make sure not to taint the character, but in this story, we have a character who got "sullied" and has gone through hell in life. However,
Spoiler

I like the fact that we have a journey of how the character slowly learns to trust others, even himself, and see the world a bit different with a little bit of push from the main character. The MC doesn't force anything on him but helps him to understand and to process things better to overcome his trauma.

[collapse]

I really like this story. I would definitely recommend this. It has a lot of fluff despite its darkness. Thank you translator for doing such a wonderful job! I really appreciate it! I just hoped to see some romance

from the dragon, that would have been awesome, but I'm still happy with how things ended :)

5/5* HIGHLY RECOMMEND >> WOW!! One of the best!!

The writing, romance, (side) characters & development, ending and pacing are all EXCELLENT :)

This story is a sparkling diamond!! High quality!But.......

... more>> WARNING, WARNING, WARNING!!

Do you see the r*pe tag?? I thought this was the kind of r*pe where the overbearing ML r*pes the innocent, pure MC (yeah... naive little me). I am comfortable with that in BL novel. But.... OMG!!!

I was sooo shocked and feeling sick to find out that.... This r*pe was the kind of r*pe where the ML gong, a peerless beauty, was deceived and sold to a brothel in the immortal world as a teenager. He got r*ped, drugged, tortured and abused every day by groups of men. In short, for 10 years long, he got defiled by thousands and thousands of filthy perverse cultivators before MC showed up and saved him. I personnally added a few extra tags as those were clearly missing (prostitution, past tragedy, trauma etc) (all in first few chapters). ML was a s*x s*ave. This ML was truly the MOST tragic ML I have ever read so far.

I NEVER, NEVER read stories in which either ML or MC are r*ped by others. It is just too tragic, too humiliating, too heart breaking. So, I wanted to angrily quit reading and nurse my abused heart.

But... the chapters, despite the unbearable tragedy of ML, were so good that totally against my instincts, I kept reading. And WOW! Mind blowing good

YOU'll GET REWARDED IF YOU CONTINUE READING!! (As everything 'make sense' in the end)

The romance was the kind that shakes the world, defies any law of heaven and fate, and oh so bittersweet. It starts with healing, then came the romance, and then slightly but certainly each and every secret is revealed. Thee back story and the back story to the back story.

Whilst reading this story, you'll just HATE heavenly law and fate for all the tragedy, torturing and misery. You feel soooo sad for MC and ML.

GRADUALLY EVERYTHING GETS EXPLAINED AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE AGAIN. ——> things are not as simple as it seems!! Things are not what they seemingly are. The author gives suffient fore shadowing. This story has multiple layers!! Plot, all the twists and turns are superb! As a reader you'll feel that everything is all right again in the end.

Character development in this story is one of the best! Side characters are all fleshed out. Seemingly small details become so meaningful and beautiful in the end.

SUPER WHOLESOME AND SATISFYING ENDING.

Please give it a try despite the tags, as in the end all will be fine again :) Or maybe you should think... How is it possible that a novel that has these tags still have such high rating. That's how good it is!! <<less

This is the best BL novel I have ever read (I have read all the major ones already and many minor ones). You will laugh, cry, squeal, shudder, and remember it fondly always, always, always despite the rollercoaster ride. It is on the very tip of my web novel loving heart. It is my Qingshi. It is my Phoenix blood. It is everything. Please read. Many thanks to the translator for finishing and doing so well with a cultivation novel!

A wonderful, tearing, heartachingly fluff of slice-of-life xianxia along with action, mystery, plot twists. As such, it's highly recommended due to the plot alone.

Coming to the characters, no one's perfect and are fleshed out.

    • MC: Song Qingshi - High IQ, Very Low EQ, Social Anxiety, Stubborn, Little Dense but Proactive once Understands [For those who say he's dense... he's not. But he chose to ignore it cause he couldn't face it then. Once he faces, he's really proactive more than anyone MC (that I've read of) out there.], Slight OOC [Although it's been said from the perspective of the novel (and other people) that the body he was in was cold, eccentric and whatnot, the original was the same as him except some slight moral views (i.e. using alive humans for experiment). He never hid his OOC from ML as there's a reason.], Actually Tries his Best to Help Overcome ML's Trauma [For those who say he didn't care for ML, he definitely can't overcare or came in contact with ML too much at start (cause it will be repulsive), he tries to help psychologically but ML's a fine actor capable of hiding his symptoms well so it takes time.], Patience-filled [He sees clues that ML hides his condition but he can't force him (cause hiding symptoms is an indicator that patient doesn't wish to be cured yet) as doctors are assist and it is the patients who must resolve themselves for it and doesn't rush things.]
      Spoiler

It's just that both the original and him (after he transmigrated in) have been misunderstood by the world. He's from medical background so when he talks medical terms are often used and others get confused. And when others talk of wine, beauty, poem and whatnot, he gets confused. So overtime he (and the original) has stopped conversing with others other than necessary. He by no means is dumb or s*upid. As a bio-student, I also often use medical terms (it became a habit) when conversing with my fellow classmates.
Those from other classes often can't understand our convo and when they talk of what history, geo and civics, we also can't understand often. It's quite normal but often leads to non-convo between two friends of different classes. At most then we can talk of how the day went or about the teachers and etc. but never about any sort of study topics (cause the other won't understand).

      [collapse]
    • ML: Yue Wuhuan - Very High IQ, High EQ, Traumatized, Possessive, Insecurity, Low Self-esteem, Yanderish (that actually determines that Yandere-behaviour ain't right), Not Healed by Love Alone (and takes actual time, often bordering to self-destructive tendencies), Trust Issues (caused due to past and actually admits his fault that he didn't give MC that), Never Hurt MC
    • Supporting Characters: An Long, Xiaobai, Bai Zihao, Qing Luan, Nian Nian, etc - Fleshed out, Own backstories, Proper Motive, Own set of Psychology (whether with a sad past or not)
    • Cannon Fodders/Villains: One word - Scum (No need for reason). Also there are no cannon fodders that are actually pitiful or just had to be unfortunate cause they crossed paths with MC-ML. Actual pitiful about-to-be-cannon-fodders were granted a way out (of that situation).
Everything is for a reason. Be it Song Qingshi's transmigration, system's malfunction, etc.

It's 113 translated chaps right now (close to the end) and I MTLed the rest. Honestly, even though I've read by MTLing many other novels, it's mediocre according to MTL-level. BUT the translations are superb!! Well-understood English and doesn't break the flow of reading. Writing is great too.

Something personal: MC is cute. Warms your heart. MC-ML interactions are both cute and tear-jerking. Except for first few chaps, the rest alternate between fluff and tears (but it's all at right pace). Also it's no mistake if you pick this up to read, read it to the end. You won't regret.

Read it, it's beautiful. I had read the entire novel, And I can really say it's worth the risk.

First of all, I am not a fan of domineering gong, I want a soft gong like An long. So, Reflecting back on how I acted these past few days. How the hell am I in love with Wuhuan? Lmao. I'm joking. (MARRY ME AN LONG!!)

Okay, Here is my review. This novel is recommendable, Everything is intact, The plot doesn't have loopholes, Great character development. And great twist, I almost broke... more>> my entire spinal cord from twisting.

At first, Since I don't like r*pe. I'm planning to drop it in just chapter 10 or at any chapter that I find uncomfortable. But, It got me curious all over. I am definitely interested on how the MC will act after knowing the beauty he save is not the 'right' one? But without even knowing I'm already at chapter 20+

I also like the side characters so much. Especially nian nian. Btch got me laughing for a whole hour. Her trauma is really funny that I'm guilty for laughing. I also love Ku mong, Bao Zihao and Xiao Bai.

Also, I got an extreme case of dumbness in which I can't remember anyone's name at first sight, Unless they leave an impact on me. Unfortunately, This book cured me😭😭 lmao. They really attached a great importance in my heart. <<less

I love Song Qingshi. I understand why Wuhuan is obsessed. Wuhuan is also *chef kiss* top tier. Yet somehow I have second lead syndrome ??? An Long should just marry me and we can all be happy. Despite being heavy on characterization and relationship building there’s a steady build up to plot. The author is def putting down some building blocks. We’re not too far in but I know it’s gonna be good. I actually very much love how the story is written. The story is driven by the characters.

Spoiler

Suprisingly, the system made one appearance where it was not working well and so far has not shown up again. So no task or missions to drive the plot

[collapse]

Consequently, we become attach and really know the characters. Slowly the author works in other plot elements. I like the because in a lot of Chinese novels it can become really plot heavy and take more than 1 read to fully grasp everything. Those have a charm of their own but I really love this.

Honestly, I really want some spoilers but for the first time I’m gonna abstain to not ruin the experience. I have never written a review before but had to just to gush about how much I love this story.

Also, ChrysanthemumGarden translates so everything comes through very well.

10/10 would recommend! <<less

Beautiful. That's what this is. I'm very captivated by the ML, a man who's deprived of dignity to live as a man. One who would look at the mirror with eyes full of disgust. Feeling he's never gonna be worthy of love, or to love, for he would only cause the man he likes to become a joke in the eyes of the world. The only thing he could do for the person he likes was to endure his feelings so as not to dirty him. I've shed tears and... more>> my heart breaks for him. He was a talented young man with a bright future, but the world was been unbearably harsh. Just a kid who dreamed of becoming a sword cultivator, how could they defile such phoenix. Unexpected really good...

The ML got the depth he deserved and you really feel for him as a character. His history is absolutely tragic but he never turns into the type that takes advantage of or manipulates the MC.

And I really liked how the story explored the ML’s trauma:

Spoiler

The years of abuse and torment as a s*x s*ave and its subsequent consequences on the ML’s emotional and mental wellbeing are portrayed. The shame, hatred towards himself and his tormentors, violent thoughts and s*xual urges are all manifestations of his trauma and that cannot be easily fixed or undone. He views himself as this “dirty” thing that can potentially sully the MC by being near him ;-;

[collapse]

The MC tries his very best to help the ML and is very respectful of his boundaries. It’s a sweet dynamic with a dash of angst due to the ML’s lack of self-worth. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a healthier state. <<less

This story is worth a read however I felt distressed for the ml.

Spoiler

He was forced to suffer so much. He totally doesn't deserve this. And moreover what was that shitty book. There are no morals in the world. It could be a major fault of the book.

And you can't just make MC go into coma for 10 yrs without any warning.

However the 2nd ML is kinda funny but he truly deserve a good beating

The story: It's all about the MC healing the ML who went through terrible things. I've learned a lot about diseases and therapy because the MC worked in pharmaceuticals in his first life and he uses a lot of his modern knowledge to find ways to heal the ML. He's also really bad at psychology, so you can really see him struggle to find a way to give the ML the therapy he needs. The MC has depth to his characters and also some flaws, but he pushes past his... more>> shortcomings to help the ML.

Positive: The translation quality is excellent, the MC is interesting to read about (unlike many bland MCs) and the premise is really good. I'm hooked.

Negative: This story might not be for everyone, as some of the abuse the ML has gone through can be hard to read about for the faint of heart, but if you don't mind such things, then the rest is really heart-warming and touching.

Gripe: The name of the story is misleading. The ML is not a villain, he's a canon fodder that would have died after 2-3 scenes, something for the protagonist, a new s*ave, to see and realize what's in store for him. When the MC saves the ML, the ML slowly becomes yandere and villain-like, but he wasn't a villain in the original story our MC transmigrated into. So I am a bit annoyed with the false advertising in the title, but I understand it's because less people would have cl**ked on the story if it said 'canon fodder' instead. <<less

this was super promising. I liked how things were going, the emotional bond that was budding between our main pair was so sweet, so cathartic to read. The mental anguish of the ml, his self disgust and his fledgling hopes made me emotional. I was getting invested in the story. Then came the ten year long coma OUT OF NOWHERE. Like who even does that? Its been only thirty chapters since the story began and there was a time leap???? I checked out other reviews and apparently there will be... more>> an amnesia arc too. Look, these can be done in a good way but I can't stand it thirty chapters in. <<less

4.5/5

TW: r*pe/ s*xual assault, mental health issues, attempted su*cide

Before I reached the end, I already decided to give this danmei a solid 4 stars. But the last there or four chapters, that explanation at the end about where everything started? That deserves a 4.5 stars!! Still not quite a 5 stars, but almost!!

I've already read quite a few transmigration novels and most of them didn't bother giving an explanation as to why and how the transmigration happened. I have nothing against those novels because I enjoyed most of... more>> them and not that it bothered me, I still liked the flow of the plot regardless. But this novel coming back around at the end, making even the tiniest details make sense is what made me give this another half a star rating!!

I actually want to list some of the things that seemed one thing but in reality, they weren't just that simple. THESE ARE A LITTLE BIT SPOILER-Y:

    • I was actually not a big fan of love triangles because of so many reasons, and I didn't realize this novel also has one. I thought it was a bit unnecessary, that the plot can still do without it. But it was revealed that the second love interest's existence served an entirely different purpose than just being the love rival, and I loved that so much!
    • There are a lot of reviews from NU about not wanting to finish this because they said that the MC is too 's*upid'. Song Qingshi is not really s*upid as they say, he's actually very smart, but his intelligence is mostly focused on his specific field, especially in medicine. He is more like having a very low EQ, not really good at picking up social cues, very ignorant to the things that doesn't concern his work and he didn't really know how to deal with people. He has social anxiety (and usually stutters when talking to other people, except when talking about his medicines) and that drew the line between him and the outside world. Because of that, he seemed very slow in the head. He's very naive and gullible most of the time. But that part of him actually has an unexpected explanation that those SQS haters didn't get to know because they chose to drop this novel halfway because of the reason that the MC is too 's*upid'.
    • And for someone with a very low EQ and not good with words, Song Qingshi can sometimes deliver the most beautiful lines:
You once wished me good luck for the night and now, I want to wish you good luck your entire life.

Song Qingshi gently placed his palm on his chest and said gently, "Wuhuan, your heart is sick" Yue Wuhuan bowed his head and asked, "My heart?" His heartbeat was speeding up. His body was burning hot, as if it was calling out to something. Song Qingshi raised his head. "Does it hurt every day?" Yue Wuhuan looked at him for a long time, and finally nodded. "It hurts" Song Qingshi took him into his arms, patted him and comforted him softly, "Don't be afraid. I'll hurt with you"

"Don't give up and don't persuade me to give up either. I have the world's most stubborn heart, even if I hit a wall thousands of times, ten thousands of times, I will never look back. If you really can't bear the pain and despair and decide to abandon this world, then I will accompany you"

    • Song Qingshi's love for watching the clouds as a hobby. It seemed like something the author would randomly threw as the MC's pastime, especially as a loner, but there's more to it than that.
    • All the dreams about the phoenix. We all know who that phoenix is, and that there's something important about the dreams, but once the significance of those dreams was revealed, re-reading those dreams makes so much sense.
    • The ML Yue Wuhuan has an special attachment with different stones, especially the beautiful ones. His hobby of collecting stones is tied to his real identity and after knowing his identity, it revealed why he has a natural affinity with Song Qingshi. And that actually makes my heart so soft!
    • The MC saying that 'my heart is born for you' to the ML, you might think it's only for romantic appeal? NO!! There's a deeper meaning to that!!
    • The ML also has a yandere personality that some of the readers didn't really like but just so you know, he's the type of yandere that knows his own boundaries and limitations. He is self-aware. He might be the best yandere that I've read in a while that never forced himself to the MC. And his yandere personality didn't just come out of nowhere either. You might say that his yandere personality comes from his trauma, but him trying to control his possessiveness so that he wouldn't suffocate the MC is also making his mental health issues more severe, hence the stalemate.
There are a lot more, but I won't list all of them. You can pick this up if you want to learn more. Just know that:

This novel certainly has some heavy topics. Trigger warnings are there for a reason. There are chapters that are really hard to read. Fortunately if a chapter gets really heavy with trigger warnings, the translator has this note at the start of that specific chapter that provided a summary of it so you can choose to skip it without losing the importance of that chapter. I personally read the whole chapters so I know how heavy it got sometimes, so proceed with caution if you plan on reading this.

Thinking back about how this novel started, I was surprised how much the plot grew from just a simple transmigration to something much more than that. I never expected all of it to happen just from the first few chapters and I loved where the plot took me. <<less

Somehow I had listed this as dropped but I don't think I had ever tried reading it??

Because oh my god is this a story that you need to stick through. There's so many twists, I got a little dizzy reading it as my brain started processing all the little moments throughout the story as they tied together.

Spoiler

The plot twist in the middle???!! I was just in shock at that point. This plot was nothing like I could have ever expected.

[collapse]

The basic premise of this story is the meme—

ML: I have never done anything wrong in my life ever (as he hides a mountain of corpses behind him)

MC: I know this and I love you (referring to the corpses)

I really loved that MC was not as dumb as he played out to be, and was actually scheming in his own way along with the ML. He accepted everything about ML, including his obsessions, violence, and overall yandere tendencies.

I will be honest and say that my emotions didn't get triggered too much by the writing and I didn't cry or have my heart physically hurt, but the shock I experienced when the plot revealed itself definitely is enough to make this a great story.

Spoilers, please don't read if you haven't finished but I just have to get my feelings out—

Spoiler

Realizing so many things after reading, like how

- ML collects pretty stones because MC was his first pretty stone

- MC having ALS because he used to be a stone and stones can't move

- MC having a heart of stone because he was once a stone!!

I love how it all ties together. Definitely a story that you'll get a difference experience reading the second time.

This novel was so good, the characters are super well written and lovable. The MC is super cute and I love the way each character is able to grow throughout the novel.

Everyone dropping it before reading to the end won't realize that there is a reason for the way each character acts, and I gotta say, the ending of this novel was super satisfying.

I also loved the way the author is able to portray sensitive topics such as SA and mental health, so many scenes left me in a puddle... more>> of tears TT. <<less

4 stars.

Normally, I disliked possessive, yandere-style characters but this novel really handles the Ml's possessiveness and trauma very well.

The mutual devotion of the main ship is beautiful, and both their characters are given equal development and time to shine. The side characters are all unique and enjoyable too.

There are many twists in this novel, I'll advise you to read without looking at spoilers.

I only have some minor quibbles, which is why one star was deducted.

Spoiler

The ending sort of cancels out Yue Wuhuan's suffering and tragic past. I understand it was for the twist, but I still don't really like it. An Long's character also felt underutilised, I wish we could have seen more of him.

[collapse]

The translation is of good quality and very readable, many thanks to the translator for their efforts, and also for the footnotes that really helped.

Finally, I rec Misvil to you if you like stories about trauma recovery, where mental illness is taken seriously, mutual love and devotion, and character development. Although the beginning is dark and it gets tragic at times, overall it is a very sweet and beautiful story, with lots of humour. <<less

Hoooly crap, this novel is amazing.

This was a whole roller coaster ride and you can tell the novel was very well planned and weaved together to make an amazing tapestry of emotion and heart.

I've never met an MC as cute as SQS. He warms my heart all the way through.

... more>> But the reason I give this a 5++ stars is the process in which MC takes to not only heal the physical wounds but also the emotional and mental wounds of the ML (despite not understanding emotions himself) was incredible.

Other novels tend to treat trauma like a half-withered plant, just water it with kindness and sunshine and it'll be good as new, but this novel doesn't. It also shows that improper 'help' can often re-traumatize. And that healing is not linear--sometimes the heart takes a step back before taking 2 steps forward, over and over again. This was the first time I've read a novel and felt that it helped my own healing journey progress just a little bit as I watched the ML go through his.

The author also makes use of the side characters as the 'right' types of foils to the ML. They each go through their own trials and traumas, some of them similar to the ML, but the way they come out of (or fall further into) their depression and despair really ground you into the fact that humans can be resilient or so fragile and where ML really stands in comparison.

And the ending message that, though one person/event can be a catalyst for healing, big credit goes to the butterfly effect creating a wealth of community and relationships or circumstances to fuel that healing. So damn good!

Is it perfect? No. Is it insensitive in certain areas? Sure, but it does a better job than most.

The translations were also fantastic and, man, I just feel so blessed to have read this. <<less

I thought this would be a funny story with tragic/action moments judging from the summary, but the first 10 chapters were so heavy it really mashes someone like me into a pancake.

I admit I didn't read the Tags. my bad!

This entire world is chock full of s*x s*aves, human trafficing, pretty much any of the worst crimes you can imagine.

... more>> And they are all viewed as "normal" by literally everyone in the immortal realm.

I don't know If the main goal would be to get rid of all of that sh*t, tbh that would be a nice ending.... but anyway I can't stand reading this kind of thing for fun.

Following this kind of setting, the ML is an (understandably) unhinged, sick person.

MC has a really weird sense of justice and his overall motivation seems kind of all over the place to me.

Spoiler

He let's himself be bitten (he is in so much pain he cries out) Because he feels guilty that the other party was worried??

Basically, this guy just wants to do research, the only 2 guys he considers "friends" or "close" are 2 psychos that want to f*ck him, but like him too much to force him (at least until ch39). Why everyone in this world seems to have a d*ck for a brain I really don't know. The MC is supposed to be demis*xual I guess? Tho the way he is described you would think he is a celibate monk, but he just reads as an ordinary guy. And the actual monks are in the golden Pavillon, f*cking ch*ld sl*ves until the brink of death.

If you can stomach these kinds of things go for it I suppose. The Translation is good, and apparently the ending might be alright. Personally I have no desire to go on. <<less

At first it was interesting. But as the plot goes on, I feel bored because of how "big" the scale of the plot. It started as simply a transmigrated person from modern to cultivation world, but then ... more>>

it changed into a rebirth story of more than thousand reincarnation. And then it changed again to be a plot about saving the God of the world (ML).

For this kind of "big" plot the flow of the story itself is very cramped. The author just want to compress the much bigger plot into a two or three chapter towards the end. So it doesn't feel satisfying.

Although the personality of the shou is very unique and I never found this kind of shou. The character development is quite nice.

I didn't read that many danmei novel. Maybe around ten. But I think most danmei novel becomes boring in the middle of the story. And the fact that they use a very long description just to describe a thing is a bit annoying too. I know they-the author-are like this because the royalty system is based on words count.

Thankfully this novel is not that long. I finished it in 5 days. <<less
