This is poorly written novel. The MC is a cardboard cutout, and a complete mary sue. The MC has a past with a ex-girlfriend who died to genetic problems, gives a tragic and heartwarming past for the MC but it is never explained in anyway. What is even the point of mentioning her? Additionally the people he interacts with are all incredibly stilted and unnatural.

The world is a sci-fi and people are divided by the genetic levels. The MC starts out f-rank, the lowest genetic score without detriments and this lasts for a total of 5 chapters before he gains a cheat skill which allows him to immediately raise his genetic score, and control every feature of his body. What is even the point of making the character F rank if it lasts for three chapters before he finds the cheat skill which makes him op? After he gets his cheat skill he immediately leaves the planet, and then gets in a serious of events where the MC is a total mary sue. (I.e perfect in everyway and loved by everone). I feel like everything that happens to him is so extremely forced and unlikely.
This reads like a fan ficition pulled from fanfiction. Net but proof read. Read this if you want to read about cardboard Mary Sue in pointless story.

I absolute am in love with this novel and to be honest it start to get interesting around the 15th? Chapter. I do think the power level and strength can be developed better. Besides, the power level I like concept of genes ranking and the story development is very incredibly fun to read.

Traditional clan-families, being son-of gives you a privileged position in a planet-sized institution, words like "background" and "backing" thrown here and there. The author obviously don't know that not all societies are organised by Guanxi and turned the whole galaxy in a technologically futuristic China that kept it's current social organisation.

A modern storyline. A nice sci-if novel with an interesting setting. A setting that is easier to relate to than mountaintops and sects.

The writing is nice, not repetitive or filled with exposition. Translation seems nice, and edited nicely.

This is worth at least trying a few chapters. I'm enjoying it a lot.

I can't believe this was written by the same guy that did Chronicles of Primordial Wars. The only real connection I see between them is that both authors failed physics class terribly and know next to nothing about technology. In CoPW that has little affect since the technology is minimal. Although, the MC of CoPW not knowing how to melt rock to get ore is a little over the top s*upid. Star Rank Hunter is full of all kinds of techno babble nonsense that is obviously misinformed and uneducated. It's... more>> less Ian M. Banks and more Star Trek. Want an example of how bad. The author said that the MC's girlfriend had a disease and died young. Had the author researched a little he would have found that if she had the disease she would have been no more than a three foot tall, bald, brittle boned, munchkin looking looking person. That's his girlfriend supposedly. Whatever man.

Onto the review of Star Rank Hunter, it's unforgivable tr*sh. First off the MC is a sorry excuse for a sock puppet. Every single powerful guy he meets kidnaps him, does what he wants with him, and after pulling their hands out of his butt, and cleaning up, they just pass off the puppet to the next puppet master. Cillin, the main character, has no complaints. He is basically a repurposed s*x robot whose emotional centers of its brain have been damaged. Simply put Cillin cannot think for himself and merely reacts to situations the author puts him in. He is definitely not a human being.

None of this would matter if the technobabble context or the MC were interesting, but it's not. Any challenge is met with a miraculous solution by his "bio chip" or nanites. The MC is a dumb ass, but that's ok. His bio chip can alter his appearance, allow him to solve unsolvable math problems, and give him strength that is beyond his level. Whatever happens the bio chip can ass-pull a solution to the problem. The MC is the strongest, smartest, and most fearless bu*t puppet that you've ever kidnapped. <<less

This novel is kind of a trainwreck, the author is ruining things, the more he writes, the more the novel starts smoking and soon it'll probably explode.

Where I dropped it, every chapter was just filled with endless bullsh*t and it went on for a long time before I grew fed up to the point of dropping it even if I had entertained the thought even as soon as chapter 90. There are many issues with this novel, mainly caused by this author's laziness, which isn't a surprise with his name.

Extremely... more>> boring filler comes all too often, usually it cycles between interesting arcs and filler, like going on a sightseeing trip. The plot is static, it's really moving nowhere because the author spends too much time on irrelevant things and too little time on what truly matters. There's a young girl in the story that doesn't suit it at all, a previous child "soldier" type who grew up in a world filled with endless war, she acts like a precocious and ignorant little brat and it's truly pissing me off because she ruins the mood whenever she's around, she also has no use other than being a "cute" character because despite her gun skills, she's never really shown using them, she just plays games, imitates the adult hunters and talks about candy 24/7, truly a moodbreaking character that was a HORRIBLE choice to introduce.

It doesn't help that there are no other decent girls, the girlfriend thing was completely irrelevant and unnecessary and the only other girl is somewhat similar to a mix between a yandere and tsundere, a crazy person who can't confess yet keeps on trying to disturb the MC all the time, making her really annoying, that we know nothing about her background doesn't make it better. The author is lazy and refuses to explain the INTERESTING things that requires him to think a little, so some things are left unexplained until way, way later. This includes not demonstrating the mc's new powers and acting as if everyone are full of mysteries, this guy REFUSES to explain anything crucial to the plot, he leaves everything unclear or completely glossed over. Almost every single "important" character has some big mysteries around them that the author just won't get along to mentioning until he feels like he can create something and use it. As if that wasn't enough, he can't shut up about how this or that person is so mysterious as if to hint something big but it turns out to be no big deal at all, just a normal background in a novel like this. We don't even get explanations about the mc's new powers when he gains them (not even after MANY chapters) or items that are clearly really important. Things just happen when the author wills it and then he pretends it was planned out all along. No, if it was planned, he would've told us more since these things doesn't really matter and it's nothing that makes the novel more exciting, this is just lazy writing, also a normal thing in chinese novels because it makes things easy to write, word count ftw, right?

The "science" is truly horrible in this novel. It's some serious pseudo-science bullsh*t that the author thought up on the fly. Often he just skips explanations entirely. He wants it to be a purely scientific world, yet the powers are clearly nothing but magic at times, things that clearly can't be possible. He just introduces whatever he wants and pretends that it's good by using some half-assed explanation that makes no sense, things that he can't explain are just skipped over entirely, like the guy who can somehow use a technique to create extremely powerful lightning or the space ring that somehow fused into the mc's finger and became a tattoo. The more interesting parts like gear and items are completely glossed over. We have no descriptions on guns, no descriptions on mechs, no descriptions on the spaceships, no explanations on various technological stuff that should be here, not even things that are used are given more than a "it's a warship" "it's a scanner" "it's a thing that can make medicine" type of explanation, no details as to looks or true functions. Things just works because the author says so and we don't know how they look so it's hard to imagine anything but a generic image of a spaceship, makes things much less cool.
Spoiler

Hell, the author made the MC work under a guy as an engineer disciple and ALL he does is assemble and disassemble machinery, he pretty much just uses parts to build things and there are no explanations given on it more than that and that he's fast at it and gets faster... Seems engineering over there is just about shoving things into slots. The MC also gains a lot of knowledge and powers for no reason, there's no mention of him studying it but suddenly he can concoct medicine formulas, hack things and work out antidotes and poison and even genetic engineering. All this time we didn't even know that he studied this stuff because the only things mentioned was him going to a training class and going to assmeble stuff. Really?

[collapse]

The fillers are supposed to be cheap attempts at "comedy" but it's truly not funny at all. There were actually some funny parts before it reached the true filler chapters, but the pure comedy elements like the moronic cyborg cat and the little girl just aren't working because they're hardly amusing at all, the cat can be somewhat entertaining at times though. Even worse, characters are becoming less and less fleshed out to the point where everyone might as well be machines. I feel no interest whatsoever about them, they're just there but they might as well not be because they have the presence of air. Even the MC displays no will of his own and becomes ridiculously boring, only when fighting is he quite a good character and that's all too rare. I just can't relate to him or care about him.

I'm quite sad about this because it was VERY interesting for the first 80 chapters, especially the first 60 or so. Things were going well, the comedy was decent and the story, despite being full of holes, supernatural "coincidences" and pseudo-science along with lacking explanation, was actually pretty good, at the very least it was intriguing and had me reading chapter after chapter without being able to stop. The MC was a badass in every way and did everything in his own pace while being a genuine loner. He did what was required and utilized his skills nicely. I liked the plot and looked forward to the future when he'd struggle as a hunter and keep on being a loner to some extent while strengthening himself as much as he could and not spending a lot of time on worthless things, but he just turns into a chummy guy after chapter 85 or so, most of the stuff is filler and while the "drama" was decent enough, it was nothing compared to before. He changed too much and his environment and companions changed even more. There was nothing like being a "cool hunter" and trying to be the best, he's starting to just be that guy that can be OP at times but spends most of his time having fun with others, like doting on the little girl and frolicking around with his cat cyborg, only that he's far more soulless and boring in such a situation than normal mcs. The "relief" (filler) arcs became longer and longer and the action and drama stuff just decreased as we go on and things are unlikely to change until many chapters later.

I am giving this up, I am very disappointed. The first 60 chapters were easily 4/5, maybe even 4.5/5, but then it dropped to 3/5 and started to become gradually worse and is now at a 2/5, which means it's painful to read and the annoying parts are far overpowering the good parts. I'll give it a 2/5 because I can't give it a 2.5/5 and it's just not worth a 3/5 with the way it has been going for 70 chapters. Looking at other reviews, it's clear that things won't change later on either. This just doesn't work for me, it scratched my itch at the start but later on it started to rub me the wrong way instead, far, far too much.

Maybe you will enjoy this more... Give it a try, but if you hate the change after chapter 85, then buckle down because it'll only get worse. My recommendation is to drop it at that time if you don't like it instead of reading on. The MC and story has nothing much to offer, there are PLENTY of good novels out there that are better reads. <<less

I was really into it at first, the first 70 chapters really immersed me into the story with well fleshed out characters and an MC that had a serious/calm personality that didn't jump at any woman that opened their legs for him.

But after the first arc, ... more>>

What I read was disappointing. Two new characters are introduced: A loli girl that was taken in by the hunter organization that the MC is a part of, and a talking cyborg cat that was added for plot armor or something because I don't really see any other reason why the author would add this character.

The tone/mood of the novel thus changed from intense and exciting to humorous and light-hearted. It was like reading a bunch of joke filler episodes.

It was at this moment that I knew that the author was steering this novel into an entirely different direction than I thought. Reminded me of all those other Xianxia that introduced pets to the MC that had "extraordinary" backgrounds and how the pets would stick around and be annoying until their backgrounds are revealed.

Spoiler

Honestly, I think that the author didn't have to add the loli girl hunter into the novel. It could ave been a middle-aged woman and the story might not have changed as much. He only added the character to add a comedic element to his novel and in turn ruin the immersion of the reader with a bunch of BS slice of life/comedy.

Amazing novel. Probably the best Chinese sci-fi novel I`ve read. I normally dont like sci-fi novels without cultivation aspect but on this novel I was hooked right away.

This has full of adventures and what made this novel unique for me is how the author writes the different organizations on this novel. They are complex and mysterious that makes you want to know more about them as you read through. There are also side characters that have different personalities make the readers laugh and care about them.

This is the first sci-fi novel I have ever read and I was not disappointed! ^~^ Pro:

1. The MC is generally OP, but in a low-key way so it's not annoying to read about. The MC is a calm and cunning character so the moments when the MC shine is very fulfilling. The MC is also a loner! I've been avoiding all the novels with the romance genre/tags because I got tired of it, so thank goodness I finally found one with a capable single MC.

2. The antagonists are very well... more>> thought out with depth. There are no "I don't like how you look so Imma kill you" cannon fodders/villains.

3. The side characters (Lung, Knight, Ci Jicheng) are a great combo! Each character is like a pillar of the story and pay their own role in supporting the MC and providing funny moments. The one thing I love about this is that the MC is literally surrounded by a bunch of influential male characters (low-key Mary Sue hahah). Because of all the great male side characters, I kind of wish this was a yaoi/shounen ai genre because I can totally see it happening. (My fujoshi soul: activate!)

4. The descriptions of the futuristic/sci-fi world are so colorful that I can almost imagine it in my mind. Like the descriptions for the different planets, robots, scenery, flying cars, etc. Is actually interesting to read about, but this may be because this is my first sci-fi novel so I found all the descriptions new and amusing. XD

5. THERE ARE TALKING ANIMALS! Ahem, I didn't exactly come to read this just for the animals/beasts, but it was one of the deciding factors. ^_^ I just love the cat. The cat is sarcastic yet honest, ruthless yet innocent all at the same time, so how can I possibly not love the cat?!

Cons:

*slight spoiler*

1. The beginning of the plot has too many holes. If Genya/Genja (Cillin's guardian) wanted to go back to his family/world, then why didn't he try to find it in the first place? He had the money to travel and the connections to ask around, but he didn't do any of that. Furthermore, if Genya wanted to ask Cillin to help him look for his family, then why didn't he provide more info to Cillin? Just giving out his surname, a ring, and the name of a tree doesn't really help. He could have told Cillin the name of his family's planet, where it may be located, any family company/business Cillin can try to contact, business partners that may know his family, etc. I find it hard to believe that Genya does not know the name of the planet he freckin lived in and came from. Beside the major plot hole at the beginning, the rest of the story flowed pretty smoothly.

Overall, I am excited about the story and can't wait for more chapters to come out. I finished all the translated chapters within two days, so I am obsessed with this novel! I highly recommend this story for first-time readers at the sci-fi genre. This is a hidden gem! <<less

It isn't really that similar with Skyfire Avenue, its just that there are few good futuristic novels to make comparison with. The MC here isn't as strong as the one in Skyfire Avenue (for now at least) , nor is he a idealistic high class MC but instead a pragmatic Dark Horse kind of MC instead.

I hardly write reviews but honestly this book truly struck me, to be honest I wasn't really keen on it when I read the synopsis and saw that galactic dark net and swallowed star are the recommended similar novels due to various reasons which caused me to drop those novels but mostly because they started out strong and just kept going downhill non stop, I truly hope it isn't the same for this novel but I doubt it because its only 400+ chapters long which I'm looking forward to reading... more>> as its translated!

Moving on.. First of all the MC isn't an idiot, he isn't a pe*vert and he isn't full of himself. On the contrary, he's quite smart even before becoming OP (which happens in the first few chapters), he's hard working, persevering and he's loyal to his lover (i wont go into it too much but you'll understand if you read the first few chapters). In addition, he on the contrary shows off when it's required of him and super low key when necessary which is a trait very rarely seen in CN MC's.

I wont make one of those super long reviews, so i'll end it here but I recommend you give it a shot because I think it's worth it and it's much better then galactic dark net, swallowed star and the likes. But lastly and most importantly, I'd like to point out that the translator does an excellent job in translating and the editor is top notch too, sure you might find a mistake here and there but you gotta remember they're human, just like you and me so there's bound to be a comma out of place or a spelling error every now and then! But it's not as common as a lot of other works out there and they truly have done an excellent job so far, Thank You for your hard work so far and I'm looking forward to new releases soon! XD <<less

I love it because the MC is quite adorable (for me). The plot is raising consistently and totally interesting. The MC's friend is a very good supporting character... it makes the MC more gentle and friendlier. Although the story is quite unbelievable but in a humorous way. I totally like the mindset that the MC have (totally my taste^_^) lets see how far SRH can go... Fighting!!

Edit chapter 85: Really loving this series. And tbh there's too little of this genre that are being translated right now so if there's anyone that loves action packed sci fi novel, then why don't you give this a try? And what I love with this novel is that the interaction between the MC and his gang/friends is really funny and interesting. The only downside for me is that MC is sooo Op compared to his peers and other so there's no tension at all for him now.

Disapointing, DISAPOINTING... I AM SO f*ckING PISSED RIGHT NOW.

I can tolerate that MC is a freakin' cardboard, I can tolerate that MC has shown emotion only once during the 90 chapters... I don't care, but this level of forced plot, I can't.... So I dropped the novel, why? Let me give the context.

You know in some novels there's an AI that does all the computing, calculating in the BACKGROUND, right? That's our MC. We don't actually know shit! Author thinks we readers live in his head, he doesn't explain anything:... more>> ''euh... euh... it's the MC so... he can do it! YAY!!!''; in his head he's like: ''yeah....*wink**wink* I'm clever right?''. Not the how, not even the why sometimes just the when; and we are supposed to just agree and follow like some brainless f*cks.

I've seen AI with more depth than this MC. And what pissed me the most was the forced plot.

In chapter 41, MC gets a white ball that powered up a f*cking mice so that it could kill an A rank hunter, A rank!!! So what does MC do? Absolutly f*cking NOTHING. Not even see what material it's made of. MC can analyse substance trought touch but no no no when he finds a treasure he let it rot in his space ring. Until 44 chapters later, when he 'coincidentally' came across an OP cyborg that litteraly caused the ball to fly out of the ring and be absorbed by the cyborg. I think author mocks us even, in the first place the ring was subspace, so technically when something tears it appart to fly out then it breaks, right? NOoo nothing happened, still works peeerrrfectlyyy fine. I'm sure later on this cyborg is gonna be MC's Gold shining-24/7-plot armor. Don't get me started on the shitty-lollipop loving-war loli. Does author even know what a war child look like? ''Ah I brought her, cause when I gave her a lollipop, she smilled''. A f*cking F rank, 8y old, what can she do for the team? Better yet, does she even know what a smile is? or how to smile?

Speaking of which, we still don't know what's in that f*cking space ring apart from the coffin of his mentor. Author said that when the mentor was still alive he never lacked money and such; where did that go? because he sure as hell left nothing behind when he died. So normally, you would think it's in the ring, right? *Sigh*... As I said, when you think carefully, we know nothing at all.

There are lots of 'bad' novels out there, but when you get hooked, even if you want to drop them you can't because you're too invested. Trust me, this one isn't one of those.

Just a loss of time. <<less

Sooo. I find this novel quite refreshing. At the begining it seems as the MC is going to be the typical overpowered hero with a string of one episode characters behind him. But as we read on the characters start to develop further and they come back all the time. Additionaly even through we and the MC for some time think that he is pretty strong, we get a rude wake up call where both the readers and the MC learn that he is just a slightly more talented youngster.

The... more>> character developement of the MC is so-so. He has almost the same personality as in the begining with some small changes here and there. Fortunately his personality is pretty ok, without the so popular in xianxia and wuxia tantrums that characters like to throw. Overal the MC is a pretty calm and cool dude with just enought to keep things interesting.

The translation is really great too with just some small mistakes.

As of chapter 183 the quality of the novel is pretty high. I would recommend it to those people who are getting bored with the regular xianxia mc's. <<less

I really like this Series! I'm not really a critique who likes to demean the plot of a novel. I'm the type to fall for the characters interaction. I love the MC because unlike other novels he had real talent and cool temperament. He's not hotheaded and he's very amiable. Just imagining him make me blush. I think it's in the preference but if you like a cool kick ass MC who have a healthy environment and quirky friends who is plentifully loyal and practically a partner in crime then... more>> you should try this novel!

I also like the build-up of the relationship. A master who treats him as a son and like to squish his cheeks like a little kid. Friends who have talents comparable to the MC and Action filled with many amazing scenes of badasshness.

The MC is like a shining star constraining its brilliance as it hid among's the sea of million stars. It also have a dramatic feeling, you know a build up of anticipation of whats going to happen next. The mysteriousness of his birth, the thrill of a mission given to him by his foster father, and the anticipation of a secret mission he's undergoing under the douance family. I realy hope that they update a little faster. Teehee! XOXO (A wish of an avid reader) <3

You should try to read this if you like those mention above. But for me this is a very good read. XOXO <<less

Hmm idk what star rating I have it’s glitched on my screen so if you want to know it’s a 2 star

For those poor souls that are reading this book, I don’t recommend it. The first ark where the MC goes to school is pretty good. The rest afterwards the author lost track of what he was doing and starting writing random stuff to fill.

For those who came here for the Bio-chip that’s like Warlock of the Magus World don’t. The bio-chip in this book is basically the mc’s special... more>> thing. It only helped him evolve and change the genetics just a bit. The MC doesn’t even try to add more effects to his genes to become stronger.

for those who are reading this out of sheer boredom like me when you already read most of the good book and are now here reading the bad books the planets that are talked about in the book is not a planet. It’s like a part of a planet. Ex Planet J100 is the same planet as Planet J250 just a different area of the planet. Why is it like that? Because the author has a problem with small areas and doesn’t know what the size of things should be. I should also count the asteroids and moons too but there are too many ‘planets’ for that. Ex the Sevens School takes up a whole planet, not possible unless an asteroid but even still it’s too big even including the school size and all the extra stuff added to the school in the future.

If you are reading this take the size and distance in the novel as nothing just pretend that the ‘planets’ are just different cities of planets and sectors different solar systems, the novel will make much more sense if only a little bit.

Also the translator, why are you translating this novel, what a waste of your effort, find a better novel to translate or pick up some good ones that got stopped not continue with this bad novel.

what was said above is not all of the bars in this novel there are a lot more but I can’t seem to find the time to write them down kinda like on idk why I am writing this terrible review <<less

Probably one of my favorite novels of all time... at least until c180, but I get to that later.

The MC might be a little too OP, especially since he never seemed to face a situation where he might be in trouble, but I never found myself losing interest. He found some very interesting ways to fight his battles, and this is only meant to be a novel of 427 chapters, so I'm personally more comfortable with a consistent power level than improbable power jumps leading up to the final chapter.... more>> In any case, I thought that the mix of comedy and action was overall perfect. I never felt that anything was rushed or unexplained. And in terms of the plot, there was good pacing, with a clearly stated goal and consistent world-building as our MC travels around.

My favorite parts definitely have to do with his interactions with his three friends that he met at the "college". There was definitely many funny scenes, but it never felt overdone. And also there were many "cool moments" for the MC to show off, which definitely was very satisfying for the readers who like to see strong MC's. But of course he also knows when to play it low-key so we could see some of his more sneaky maneuvers.

Once you reach around c180, it really starts to slow down and you get a bunch of block text of world-building. And the newest arc starting around c215 just seems to be completely different from the first few chapters....I have to say, I'm going to keep reserving my judgement until more chapters come out, but I'm definitely not liking where the story is going. Still love the first 200 or so chapters though!! <<less

Honestly, this book is unique in a sense. Not great but not bad either.

In a way, there is no family, clan or superpower holding him down and dealing with political bs (right now) like 99.99% of xianxia has.

Everything is all about completing the mission, being the mission and interacting with characters that are humourous in their own ways.

... more>> Pros -

-No sticking his nose in other people's business or being a shining white knight helping damsel in distress just to force the plot

-Good interaction with friends (although how they met and the fact that they all have big background makes me feel its a bit forced)

-Lack of cardboard characters (especially females, god I hate dumb brains who open their legs the minute they lay eyes on mc) yay

-No being sidelined from the plot (which is currently the missions he's being handed as being the plot atm)

-Not a lunatic, blood sucking warrior, a rapist, a tr*sh talking justifying wannabe or longwinded MC. He's calm and clear about his priorities.

Cons -

-Mary Sue with no explanation on how he came about these knowledge (like understanding cryptography, science, engineering etc)

-Author doesn't understand the difference between memorising stuff (eidetic memory) and understanding them. There is a big bloody difference, then again this isn't a reality book but fantasy.

-Quite a few deus ex machina moments to exemplify the MC awesome, which I find idiotic.

For now, its a 3.5 <<less

I really recommend this novel. It is well written and well translated for a Chinese novel. The typical Chinese novels I come across are redundant in their wordings and lack a lot of foundation in the characterization. Though there can be more to the develop of Cillin, I find that his character is well written and conforms to the story. He never strayed from his objective and the arcs are detailed and not overly dragged out more than it should be. He is given limitations and what nots despite his... more>> MC armor. He's also not too over powered. The side characters are not forgotten too and always speckled in when necessary so they are still there even if they aren't as relevant to the plot no more. Especially Dias, we still get specks of his life, no matter how little. I think it is sincerely because he is important to the character and a pivoting point for Cillin too.
Spoiler

I just sincerely and seriously hope he won't get together with Yu Linglung. It would be too cliche and demanding of the plot in my opinion. She's too overly unimportant in her feelings for Cillin. Her character and activities are mostly just aforementioned and doesn't do as much to the plot. She does elevate Cillin's inportance but it does not do as much as I think it would.

Fortunately, the author doesn't emphasize too much on romances and makes it relatively diverse in relationships. I like how it has more a relative diversity in gender roles as well. There is just so much I appreciate about the writing of this novel. <<less
