The Academy’s Weakest Became A Demon-Limited Hunter

Description

I possessed the weakest character in my favorite game’s Hell Mode. I want to survive, but the way the main character is being controlled is atrocious.

It can’t be helped.

I have to stop the bad ending myself.

This is quite a fun novel to read and an easy one to follow. Title seems to be your average overpowered protagonist-type of novels but I assure you, that way of thinking is wrong.

Story is about our main character, who one day became a random character (Isaac) in a game he once played. Not only that, but the game is famous for its hell dificulty and knowing that the death of the game's main character would result to the world being destroyed meaning, he and everyone else will die too.... more>> Seeing that the main character of the game can't handle himself, our protagonist decided to act and try to block the bad ending himself.

Now here's the unique part, he's only OP when he's fighting demon but if the opponent is not a demon, then the boost that he usually recieves when fighting a demon will not activate. That's why he's OP and at the same time, not. The pacing is good and handles the balance between action and romance really well.

Heroines are all human beings, not some kind of NPC or flat characters like some of the novels out there. Each has their own unique personalities and goals to accomplish. One of the things I like the most about them is that you're gonna be familiar with some of them.... Why? Well, read the novel to find out.

Oh and one thing, this is one of the top novels in Novelpia even if it's only 260+ chapters currently so that's one way of telling that this novel would be good.

Let's proceed to the overall then:

- an engaging and easy to follow plot

- a lot of exciting moments

- lovely heroines

- good pacing of the story

- well balance between action and romance

10/10 would recommend for those who want a good read. <<less

The description right now doesn't say much about the novel right now, but it does have an interesting premise which I personally like very much. So as you may know from the description, it's an isekai, and our MC possesses a terribly weak character at the start.

Now, I'm at c7 right now so I can't say too much, but from the title and what I've read so far, our MC is basically ultra weak, but is able to become OP as heck in very specific situations. I guess you could... more>> say it's like he's playing a very niche or highly specialized class in game, haha.

And this, combined with a nice helping of misunderstandings means that we have some interesting situations and bluffing needed on the part of our MC as they interact with other characters who don't know about his rather unique situation, haha. And I don't know about you, but like I always like to mention in my reviews, I always like me some good misunderstandings in novels, haha. It's always so interesting to see how the MC handles all these misunderstandings, or keep them going on purpose xD

Well, at any rate, it's an interesting novel to read. ^^ <<less

Im given it a 3, it probably deserves either a 1 or a 4 though?

For a harem style story, I dont hate it... Which makes it deserve a 4? Cause I despise harem stories, they are generally empty vapid garbage... But somehow this one works?

The story also deserves a f*cking 1, maybe even a zero... Its another enter a story/game plot where the MC is an all knowing god who does the bestest path and has girls falling for him.. none of these god aweful f*cking ideas ever engage with... more>> the existence chrisis... So if the world follows the games cheats and tricks and system messages... Then no one is f*cking real. None of the relationships matter cause they are f*cking npcs. The plot doesnt matter cause everything is set in stone and our overpowered all knowing god MC will do the bestest strat.

Its an empty and dead plot path, and it wouldnt even be difficult to fix it... But these authors dont care cause its easy to understand.... So yeah 3 out of 5, leaning 1 or maybe 4? <<less

The story is a 1/5 riddled with plotholes. However, the execution is a 4/5. To the point that I would say that despite the constant attacks by demons, the focus of this novel is actually the romance. Isaac always just uses Hunter to steamroll the demons, so it's a stream of SOL + training chapters with love interests occasionally interrupted by oneshotting demons.

Despite supposedly hiding his strength pretty much every love interest detects Isaac's strength soon after meeting him. The SOL is done really well and salvages the relationships but... more>> the meetings are really, really cliche.

Moreover, anyone who doesn't detect Isaac's power and grow interested in him pretty much falls out of the story. The main character of the game is largely ignored; I would be surprised to find out Isaac exchanged a sentence with him. The teacher (Fernando) that Isaac says is important and must be saved since he leads the opposition to the main villain has done absolutely nothing. The adults are ignored because apparently the MC and his love interests are such geniuses that the adults are too weak to be relevant (begging the question of why they don't hire at least one former genius to handle them).

The story just does not hold up under examination. The author hasn't even bothered explaining the specifics of how Isaac's anti-Demon perk strengthens him. However, the SOL is really nice to read, so I recommend trying the series just for that. Ignore the demon attacks and enjoy the SOL portions if you like it.

edit: I enjoyed the SOL, but thinking back the SOL also had a fair amount of cliches. A lot of the "dialogue" was also just the MC fangirling in his head. I enjoyed it so I did not mind. However, if you don't then there isn't much left to enjoy in the series. <<less

This is a very good story with a very interesting setting. The romance is bad though.

The core draw is that MC is on hell difficulty, and to survive it he had to dump all his points into a damage bonus against demons. So against demons he's more or less OP power tripping, and for everything else (like fighting his classmates) he's nearly the worst (except he improves this over time through sheer effort). MC is also incredibly level headed and moderately crafty, which is nice. He's no genius manipulator, but... more>> he uses his information of the game to his advantage quite well.

The stats system (well really the system in general) is pretty unique, and it's actually focused on magic. I'm so tired of mages punching people with magic, please cast spells. He casts spells. There's quite a bit of wishy-washyness in the system, mostly about what titles / elements a person can have, which makes it less grounded than it could be, but it's decidedly not deus-ex-stat bonuses.

The only gripe I have is the harem/romance element. It's not that I dislike them inherently, its that the story (eventually) follows the strategy of several teen girls who should be in therapy throwing themselves at the stone-faced protagonist who's inner monologue is more or less "i mean they are attractive but crazy so i'll just stand here this is a solution." chapters are dedicated to this. It is insufferable. He refuses to reciprocate for good reason (the world may end in 1-2 years, or 3-5 business days honestly), but he doesn't draw any boundaries to the point that the target audience is painfully apparent.

The author is also vaguely trying to make MC be both cute and cool (he's short & kinda pretty, but gets buff as hell), and I don't know why. It's not like any girl likes him for his physical appearance, they like him because uhhhhh let's see: slept nearby while camping (????), first ever friend, showed powerful magic, and for the likely actual FL, is a good conversationalist and has an eldrich thing vibing where his soul should be. <<less

Finished reading the raws, this is very wholesome, enjoyable and satisfying.

Although many part are not novel, the execution of the author was very good leaving behind an amazing story that was very entertaining. I don't really have anything to complain about and I have read my fair share of Korean/Japanese/Chinese novels over more than a decade.

I would rank this easily towards the top of its genre.

Give it a shot you will probably enjoy it.

Nice and original sinopsis, but it quickly slip into the same usual tropes without much sens.

The usual MC who for some reason want to stay discreet to save the world when accepting help from everyone and broadcasting it would be far more effective.

The usual bland and tasteless weak hero who misteriously make every heroines inexplicably wet their panties and become dead locked on him.

... more>> The usual plot armor.

The usual disappointment of being pitched a school setting and level system without really ever being used effectively.

It's not really such a bad read and I stopped at around c50, but it's just boring, and pointless if you take two seconds to think about any plot line. <<less

ah, this is a good novel amidst the many bad academy novels. What I like most about this novel is that the plot and character development are not slow. Unlike other fantasy academy novels that have hundreds of chapters but only a few weeks have passed and the MC is still very weak, in this novel everything is balanced.

the shortcomings of this novel can be spelled out that there are many things that are not used. Like OP familiars in the academy, second element MC, and others.

and in the last... more>> battle when MC defeated the demon god you could say it was a little bland in my opinion. But everything other than this is very well written.

sorry if the review is bad, because I'm not used to writing a review this long. <<less

I gave up waiting for the Translation and just read the raws & I gotta say that this was truly an enjoyable ride.

First 30 chapters may start like a typical Harem novel but the middle parts are where the fun and mysteries start to show up which spices the story up.

Aside from 1 heroine, almost all the other heroines felt like they mattered/aren't just there for their tropes and wasn't just there as display waifus.

Even a side-character Villain that I hated early on became such a bro in the future... more>> that he can even steal the spotlight at times.

For the MC, I love his mindset where he can even tell off a yandere of what she's doing wrong. The interactions he has with the heroines are very cute. <<less

I've read it and like it so much I even read the machine translation version after finishing all available chapters from the translator (even pay for the premium lock ones), this just goes to show how good it is. The best way I can describe this is this novel feels like "Little Tyrant doesn't want to meet a bad end" and "The Author PoV".

In terms of similarity with The Author PoV both MC start off weak and gradually become stronger little by little, they both use their head to create... more>> strategize on how to solve a problem while staying under the radar, and they both have "cheat skill" that could boost their power for a while (though its more broken in this than in the author pov).

As for Little Tyrant, they both have the protagonist surround by crazy ass heroines xD, seriously these girls have no chill. But its not really force, they all have valid reason on why they are obsessed with the MC. But be warned their love are intense. Now im worry if this don't end with a harem ending they might start waging war hahaha.x`

The misunderstanding come mostly from the MC 1 cheat skill that is a buff againts any Demon, as you might have guess from the title and summary, everyone who knows of the MC power thought he is hiding his power for some secret and noble mission, the MC is aware of this and try to used it to his advantage convincing them using his in game knowledge and acting.

I say if you enjoy the two novel I mentioned I think you will enjoy this, if youre still unsure keep reading till chapter 46 since I think that has one of the most powerful conclusions, even reading it through machine translator it move me to tears.

I also find it hilarious that some people figure out MC identity as this undercover hero without him knowing, and they all always lose their mind trying to act normal whenever they see the MC hahaha

This definitely scratch my need for this sort of novel.

If you want a bit more spoiler regarding the MC here you go:
Spoiler

Powerful people in the world like the Archmage, basically the pinnacle of wizard, were able to see within the MC power, and they saw basically an eldritch like being able to consuming the world within him. This basically solidify MC position as the next Archmage. So yeah even the archmage here was like, "Yeah he's legit". But the MC dont' realized this, as least up to chapter 140 hahaha

Under!! (if you know you know...)

Read up till 280 on MTL (it's one of the more acceptable MTL's I've read for those interested)

This novel ticks so many boxes for me.

... more>> Great MC, great setting and world building, great love interests, intriguing mystery and a well done power system.

I'll start by saying that the first 40 ish chapters while great might lead you to believe this is a good but not very unique Action novel, but don't be mislead!

The mystery real kicks in after some build up and the story becomes something I honestly didn't expect at all. A big theme here is twisted fairy tails, so taking stories like the wizard of Oz, Snow White and including their themes and morals in the story in various ways. It's honestly a level of writing that's quite rare in LN.

Another thing is that while it starts off seeming like an action novel with some harem elements, it kinda turns more into a primarily harem novel with action elements. Don't be put off by that, the romance in this is great and as the overall mystery unfolds it only gets better.

I say that because I know people are put off by overly perfect Korean MCs that pick up girls like pokemon while being as dense as a diamonds (I'm one such person). Thankfully I can say I never felt that way with this novel.

Every love interest is likable and well developed. They all get a decent amount of time with MC before falling for him and it feels organic (the only weak relationship is Kaya imo).

MC is also not dense and is aware of their feelings and his own for them. He's also honest about wanting to be with all of them and doesn't deny it (it's fine to admit you want a harem in a fantasy world, finally!!). He doesn't go about this in a douchy way trying to pick up every girl for those worried.

I saw some reviews saying there are too many girls and old ones get forgotten for new ones. I half agree with that... There's really only 4 girls that are genuinely in a romantic relationship with MC and that he has feelings for. All those characters are recurring and constantly have moments with our MC. The problem is more in the fact that 80% of the cast and all the characters of importance are pretty much all female (we can't have Korean MC interact with other man too much, that's crazy...). This can grow old as to why he's always surrounded by beautiful woman, but thankfully he doesn't develop feelings for any of the side characters and their connection with him borders on a passing friendship at best (hopefully this doesn't change).

Our MC is great, he's smart, funny and hardworking while having pretty good EQ. He's genuinely heroic but not too stuck in his ways of righteousness. He does dip into generic Japanese anime protagonist territory at points... Being overly kind to people that are rude to him, being easily intimidated by his lovers and such things... But thankfully those moments are few and far between.

Finally this novel actually takes advantage of the fact that this is an academy life in a game world. So many novels just pick this setting and in reality make you go 'I have no idea why MC is even attending this place...' while constantly throwing plenty of filler at you. Not here, every arc feels like it matters, and the context of it being a school constantly plays into the plot. MC actually breaks down future events for us constantly. It never feels like author just wanted something to happen so now we're doing this arc or this thing randomly. We constantly get told "these are the events that happen in the next semester, I need to prepare that" (AKA, real setup). The author obviously put a lot of thought into the mystery and building the world.

Highly recommend! <<less

basically our boy is strong against demons like super strong against, homie kind of goes super saiyan and against human he is not as strong but he getting there with extensive training. when Dorothy and kaya figure it out their best girl rankings went up by a lot for me.

[collapse]
. Well all in all it's pretty generic, but I'll say it pretty good, for example there's some author's pov sh*t going on later and will probably be explain way later, which is pretty interspersed. So while it is generic, it's pretty fun to read too and our boy isn't dense, he actually kind of a chad, he straight tells us that he likes all of them and that after killing nepido or whatever his name was, he'll accept them. While I do kinda find the idea of not dating them till he kills the evil god kind of s*upid, I get where he's coming from. But the thing is that he still openly shows a lot of affection from them, like once he bit their ear and he slept with them multiple times, so I guess it's fine since their just not dating in name. Now, for best girl ranking

1. Dorothy- best girl undoubtedly, like holy f*ck after she appeared for like 20 chaps she was already best girl.

2. And everyone else except white. I personally think that white needs more character development and more screen time for her to be on par with everyone else but maybe that's just me.
now describing them

Kaya is a shy kouhai or sergeant type of girl, she call our boy issac with sama or sir sometimes, she gotten less shy in the recent chaps, but her demon personality/version is almost up to Dorothy level.

luce is just a yandere like super yandere, while all of them kind of are except Alice and white, Luce is very yandere. She said something bout kidnapping our boy or something like that. But after they talked bout it, her yandere was went down a bit, she still thinks about yandere-like things but doesn't really act on them.

Alice is kind of a more seductive and playful Dorothy, while Dorothy is playful, our girl is playful in a different type of way. She is pretty new to the group, so we'll see a lot more of her later on.

3. White is like normal kaya but weak, she is like a hamster I guess, but she does get quite a bit of character development and I'll hope she gets more in the future. Lastly some said that they didn't like the author forgetting the girls, but they didn't even do that, they always reappear quite frequently too. When a new girls is introduced, we still see the other girls appearing, so I don't know what they were on, but they were on somethin. Overall it's a pretty enjoyable read with pretty good pacing and decently long chapters.

4.2 out of 5 <<less

So many characters, especially later on, have such terrible personalities. Everyone is so arrogant and I really don’t understand the appeal for characters like that, they just irritate me. It’s the same thing with tsunderes, it’s just mind-boggling how popular they are, to me it’s akin to so many people believing in flat-earth theory. Like how is that possible? Why do you enjoy reading about the MC getting treated like sh*t so much? Are you a sad*st or masochist or something? I don’t understand this world and it’s so disappointing... more>> because I could enjoy so many stories if it weren’t for tsunderes and annoying characters, but alas that is my luck, I wish there were some stories without tsunderes or many arrogant characters, but they don’t exist. I can tolerate a little bit of them, like a few chapters and then they get destroyed and their personality changes, but when it’s recurring, like it is in most novels, it’s so f*cking annoying. I would be so much happier if novels had characters with likable personalities, but I guess that’s just my life <<less

This is a story that is fun to read as the Protagonist is powerful against the demons but actually pretty weak against others,

As he also tries get stronger by working hard the other female leads are attracted to him.

Though personality of the all female leads are different and the blend of those FLs with protagonist is really funny to read, it sometimes feels it is a bit forced.

... more>> The action scenes are perfectly made and that is why I love this series.

And the premise of the story is not much unique but with the actions scenes being written this much good it feels refreshing to read.

Villains are a bit blend for me untill now but I am sure there are many promissing antagonists are there in the future as I continue to read this.

And lastly the transaction is flawless so you can be assured of a great journey <<less

I was hooked right from the start on this novel! It drew me in with its unique premise of a weak student suddenly gaining amazing demon-hunting powers.

At first I thought Isaac would follow the typical OP main character route, effortlessly defeating everyone in flashy ways. But I was pleasantly surprised that his newfound strength only applies to fighting demons. Against human opponents he's still weak, which creates an interesting dynamic.

The demon battles are exhilarating to read, especially when Isaac strategizes about how to exploit their weaknesses. And when he's challenged... more>> by other students, it's fun seeing how he creatively uses his specialized skills to survive.

The plot keeps things moving at a steady clip, with new mysteries and adventures in every arc. The story never feels repetitive or formulaic. I also like the way the author incorporates familiar western fairy tales and folklore with added twists into the backstories.

While there's some romance, it's not overly dominant. And I appreciate that the heroines feel like real people with their own goals, rather than prizes for Isaac to collect.

Overall this is an entertaining fantasy academy novels I've come across. If you're looking for something that combines demon-hunting action with witty humor and great characters, definitely give this a try! <<less

A nice novel to spend your times. Its generic isekai academy but done mostly right, the pushover part of protagonist is annoying tho and you can find his dense moment like generic isekai but you can’t make a perfect MC anyway. And importantly even when he surrounded by many women he had priorities for 1 love interest (I’m not a harem haters but most of the story who had this tag are thrash)

As of chapter 12, personally it doesn't look so good. Cliche scenarios, obvious plot-armour, jarring plot-holes. I know I only read so much chapter yet I'm frustrated by MC's lack of logic and FLs' dumb misunderstandings. This is just a rant, and I'll update this later after I've read more of this story

Update as of chapter 106:

Glad I decided to read the rest of the chapters. Indeed, we definitely could have a better start, but it's fun to read if you ignore that. The emotional scenes are a bit... more>> cringe, but there's only a few of that so no problem. This was supposed to be hell-mode difficulty, but the author made it a bit too convenient for the MC. Too much onomatopoeia at times, usually when the demon talks. The misunderstanding sometimes feel too forced that I feel they're truly like an 'NPC' that follows what the 'game developer' wants. Still, this is an enjoyable read if you know how to just simply skip unimportant parts and turn off your brain at times when you found something off with the story. Updated it to 5/5. <<less

So far the story has been great, the MC Isaac actually knows what he is doing and gets what needs to be done with careful planning.

Isaac is a more passive and calculated MC (up to 102 that I read) compared to other groundbreaking protagonists that immediately break the setting with their knowledge like in Flashing Genius, and tends to plan things out way in advance to assure his odds are actually possible in hell difficulty since he can't blitz everything. The other characters are all full of personality and care... more>> by the author, especially a certain bubbly senior and best girl named Dorothy. The system is very easy to understand because it's not unnecessarily complicated like many out there not being the focus.

Overall a very good read, would recommend it if you like a mix of SoL, action and harem. <<less

The translation is amazing but the writing is the problem.

I'm okay with the fact that the MC knows and uses the game's knowledge to his advantage and every other action scene is him just K.O. Ing the demons like a W.W.E. Champion.

But what turns me off is the NPCs and the femcs:

As other reviewers have stated: the newer girls will always be in the spotlight, the older ones will be put in a zip file on a cheap usb somewhere. FeMCs in this novel sparks and fades like fireworks.

Spoiler

I'm a girl so I'm just gonna give my perspective on this story's harem set a bit:

I feel like Kaya, who was raised with a solder mindset all her life, should be more rigid and stiff, I think her shyness comes from everyone around her not acting like a soldier so she might felt like she's the odd one out and have an inkling about her family's weird ass parenting philosophy. So she's trying her best to control her impulses to salute and stand at attention every time she heard sb calling her name, which will in turn cause her to be shy, not necessarily in a way that is "oh so cutesy I'm shyy~~" kinda way but a "I need to stay away because I might act like a creep to these poor innocent people" kinda way. To me, it's not psychologically logical how she acts but she has her own charm in a way: She has a very imaginative mind, combined with the intelligence of a top-tier wizard which results in her automatically filling the gap in information every time the MC does something weird, I feel a bit regretful how the MC (who can read minds) doesn't pray on this and just make her his loyal servant in the span of 2 or 3 chapters but that just proves how good-natured our MC is. It does saddens me that Kaya, who could prove herself very much useful to the MC in various ways, is forgotten over time.

Luce is a total creep. I understand that she never had a friend before and sometimes if their 1st friend is trying to get away or hang out with other friend groups, they might get a bit obsessive a jealous. But seriously?? Out of all the books of friendships and how to build connections she has never even remotely heard of the word "boundaries". She astounds me in many different ways. As soon as Luce and the MC became friends and WARNED her not to stand out too much, she came to the main gate waiting her him to come like a stalker who found their new target. Completely disregard the difficult situation that she has put him in, and gatekeep the MC like he's a rare animal. I'm sorry but this kind of relationship from my perspective is totally predatory and toxic. IMO, she was okay during the time when she was just watching the MC train from afar but when she got closer the red flags were screeching.

Dorothy is the only one who didn't give me the creeps. She and the MC share the same interest in watching the starry sky. The fact that the MC cares greatly for her goes unnoticed and she also knows when or where to stop and help. If the other FeMCs are like fireworks then Dorothy is like a shooting star. She exudes an air of complexity and mysteriousness that draws people in. I can see why Dorothy is the Mc's number 1 favourite character. I wish she would have more screen time over the other Femcs.

In conclusion, the list of female characters feels like a new iPhone product, the next one will probably come out sooner than you would expect.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The NPCs here are very 1-dimensional, characters like Mateo definitely have their moments to have character development but the other ones are not so lucky. The original protagonist, for example, faints all the time and I don't feel like he's gonna have a power-up during sleepy time. The author didn't even give a perspective on what he thought during the kidnapping scene of his childhood friend, and how he decided to hug her instead of patting her back.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The protagonist is okay in my opinion. Sometimes I feel like he could utilise his assets, knowledge and connections in a more effective way but he is only human. I feel like hell mode for him is normal difficulty, the times our MC had a near-death experience in the training grounds is wayy more than when he faced death during combat. I like his cold demeanour and the bold way he utilized his abilities to destroy demons. He's a very good law-abiding citizen by day and Batman by night with the power of racism.

This novel is the typical weak-to-strong story and is almost identical to 'fast food novels' (Novels with little quality writing but fast update speed). For starters, the MC is a literal simp for some mary sue who is all-so-powerful and playful and the author has to emphasize how perfect she is in everyone else's' eyes. The MC also has the power of plot armor (mind reading and almost every major villain being a demon) and the novel is full of the awful misunderstanding trope (like the MC being lowkey even... more>> though he's practically sh*t in other fields) and the romance feels rushed and forced as the characters act so superficial. Let's not forget, the author conveniently states that the original MC is so important and has powerful "magic" from our mc's perspective yet this guy gets knocked out every time to make our MC shine for some reason instead of the author demonstrating his power or growth (so he could be a rival for our mc). <<less
