Really good story, but several inconsequential gripes. There are several plot points that are only one off or way too short in my opinion.

At the very beginning, MC creates a Weibo account just to call someone out for showcasing fake antiques and show off wealth and the Weibo account never show up in the story ever again.

MC has a movie release in that would usually be a chapter or two in other novels about the impact of that release because it is a foreign film and he's breaking into international... more>> audiences and show domestic reactions, but instead it is only a few paragraphs.

And finally, while not necessary to share about MC's past life to ML, the author teases it but never delivers.
Spoiler

MC makes an offhand comment to ML about it and ML thinks it's a joke. Then ML researches about the past and finds about MC's past life, makes a connection about their name similarities, but still never finds out that they are one and the same.

It's a very sloooooooow romance, really cute CP, healthy relationship and cute fam, great fans and successful careers!

Totally a Gary Sue vibe.

Love showbiz, just wish this had more romance and maybe a more memorable plot, but for once I really enjoyed a cute, shy and insecure badass ML.

SO, SO GOOD!! I love it at the depths of my heart. The ending/extra is specially, *chef's kiss*.

I love the plot and all. The pacing is good most of the time except the MC's shooting career but I ate this set.

The characters are all so good!! They were written very well and each character have depth! Even side characters and antagonists have their own story to tell. I just love them so much.

I also like how they added major scenes for the parents because not many novels do that, and... more>> even if they do it was quickly brushed off after one or two scenes. The scenes with the parents in this novel just made me feel warm and smile.

And don't get me started with the main character and male lead. They're written so well!! I also love their romance, especially the pacing and all. Words can't tell how much I love them.

Overall, I recommend this!! It's so satisfying to read, you won't regret it. <<less

Okk as a matter of fact this is is not a bad story. And could be considered good.

But it's on everyone's different perspective and at different times they read it. For ex- now I read it, I didn't hate it, but just didn't felt like reading it more.

For me it's completely on time, right now I was not in the mood to read a story like this, consisting of a very slow romance.

I really loved MC's parents, they could be considered the dream parents of every single person in... more>> India 😂. I didn't completely read it though, so am not actually qualified to rate and reviews it, but I wasn't really feeling good right now. But I don't think I would still read it in future. MC was not actually bad it was just he was way too op, and everything was simply justified as he worked very hard to learn this in his previous life. But I prefer ML much more than MC, he was really cute and was not the dominant one in the relationship, but romance came really late and I really don't have the patience to completely read it now. Idk why but I feel like I would actually love the story, if it was based on MC's past life, it sounded really cool to me. Anyway as u all can see it has a very high rating and some really good reviews do I suggest you to read it first, and u can ignore my review.

Thanks author and translators for the hard work. <<less

  • storyline: 8/10
  • characters: 8/10
  • flow: 8/10
  • overall: 8/10
  • MC = died in his previous life after achieving greatness in some dynasty which em forgot the name of, was High IQ, scheming minister
  • The MC is very OP in his second life I guess due to his luck which he did not manage to get in his first life = cos he died early due to sum health issues which happened before he became the King's most trusted person & a minister
  • He is very cunning and smart honestly I wish they showed more scenes of him scheming and using his knowledge to end people fr even though this is an entertainment novel I wish they had a follow up of him diving into business cos he really has the ability to and he is very smart
  • Flowy-ness of the story; well I dont like how no matter how OP MC is the chara- ahem cannon folders or generally any chtrs present always look down on him like he holds the Xi's head thighs bs (ML BTW) likee he already so smart so talented and already 2nd generation person does he really needa do dat bro? Its literally forcing the stereotype of the SHOU always having to rely on the TOP like for what LITERALLYY ruin the whole flow everytime dat shet came up I was like tf again?
  • ML = very miserable childhood, sweet, doting to ML only, your typical cold face rigid face ML who only has his heart for MC
  • ML & MC duo = ML is the only one dat knows how schemeing the MC is thank god we got to see MC schemeing cos of dat LOLL
  • anyways they very cute and like lots of fluff ML falls for him first then he confesses then MC be like let me think then ltr they get together yata yata the usual
  • overall it was quite ok but it was very contradictory cos of the whole shou-need-to-rely-on-strong-ML stereotype like wtf was the author-nim thinkin when they wanted to force the concept in? I really want to ask them. Do you like ruining your own story dat much? Wat were u thinkin? You like tht stereotype so much then make MC OP for what?

I think that's nice. It gives warm feeling and nice emotions, but it is not perfect. I don't even know why it is only 4 for me 🤷‍♀️, because I enjoyed it.

Pretty good! I like YXDY since back then and her writing style is really my favorite.

I noticed a pattern on her danmei though, a smiling seemingly warm MC but is reallly strong and will defend ML, while ML is doting, indulgent and well, pitiful. Not that im complaining but it seems to be just this way.

Its pretty good, fluffy and I love the face slapping though a bit minimal. MC has a halo and everything he does is perfection.

This is good for a mindless read so if you're up for... more>> something deep, this may not be for you <<less

AYE AYE AYE

What an amazing read! It was simply perfection. It was really well written, the flow was just PERFECT and the ending was just sooooo satisfying. I'm in a reading funk and it was still a very very enjoyable read for me. Maybe it's because it's quite short, I didn't even have to break in between.

Super duper highly recommend this if you're looking for a Gary Sue (not in a negative or annoying way) career oriented entertainment circle novel that isn't dog bloody with the right amount of romance... more>> fluff.

I love love loved the MC. He has a super realistic outlook. He doesn't take people's actions to heart because he understands that it is part of human nature but he does have his petty moments and gets his revenge hehe.

The ML... wells there's nothing much to say except that he's so deeply in love with the MC. He really tries so hard for the MC it's so awwwww and he's always petty for the MC hahhahahaha. Anyone who side-eyes the MC, BEWARE!

As for the romance, they started out as friends and slowly evolved into romance. I liked that the MC didn't immediately accept his love until he could reciprocate the ML's feelings <3 After that it's super sweet it was just perfection. I'm not even gonna call it fluff coz fluff can be annoying and boring at times. Their relationship was just... SWEET. My absolute favorite scene was the Choy Sim with mushroom dish scene (if you know you know). Bless me hearrttt.

The other side characters that were my absolute fave was the MC's parents. COME ON! Big scary vulgar looking gold chain liking Papa Bear and sweet hugable cellphone trend follower Mama Bear who SPOILS their kid? Just 💯💯💯

The ending was just one word CLOSURE. It left me not wanting more because that's all I want from the novel and that's all I needed.

Overall just a super highly recommend novel!!! <<less

It’s been interesting to read this novel after reading the author’s later bl works. Because I can see some building blocks of Ting’s character in Very Happy in Master Xi. I can tell that the author worked on fleshing out their characters and the couple’s interactions with each other. While I do find this work more lackluster than the author’s later work, I still appreciate the novel for the foundation it built for later work.

I expected more from this author. Leaving this unrated as I couldn’t even bear to finish this... thing.

1. The Sue-est of the Sues and Stus is how I would describe the protagonist. The less generous descriptor would be: dull as cardboard. The author, esp with her most recent works, tends to write protagonists as perfect and almost universally lovable as they can be. That is fine and what would you would expect from far too many cnovels, but write one who is at least interesting. And this character had the... more>> potential to be. He could’ve been a morally grey character based on his reputation in his past life. As in someone who had actually done horrible stuff (and that is normal when you live in unstable times!). But the protagonist halo in his current life is seriously way too bright. He just doesn’t have a golden finger, he has golden hands. We don’t get to see him work, try hard, or even fight for things before he eventually wins everything. Setbacks are nothing. Worst of all, he has no motivation, no needs. Acting may be a job, but if he fails? He has a loving wealthy family to fall back onto and a lucrative career in something else he considers his hobby. Even when he eventually gets together with the ML, there is no need for much emotional investment on his side. And the narrative constantly conflates his importance, so much that it is so unrealistic, even by escapist novel standards. No stakes, no character, boring all around.

2. Ah the themes. Pro-establishment, pro-status quo, veneration of authority. This is the story of a 1% being elevated to the status of the 0.01%.

Spoiler

a. We are told, in a few short paragraphs, that an antagonist, Bai Zhong, cooperated with a foreign company and threatened to de-stabilize the market. Which market? What did he actually do? Why? They never tell us. All we know is bad guy almost “de-stabilizes” the market, which is bad, and he alongside the president of that foreign company gets punished.

b. ML is so ~scary~ and so ~high up above~ none of the side characters dare to look at him eye to eye, talk to him, or interact with him. They can’t be comfortable around him and only see his status and power, almost in a dehumanizing way. And that’s apparently normal and fully acceptable.

c. MC male god being so perfect he is out of everyone’s league. So they are deterred from even trying to woo him. Kinda sad, really.

d. In this simplistic world, everything that praises the MC is a true good. We learn that the Huaxia National Broadcasting Station is a very good thing. The National Broadcasting Station and related organizations gets so much screentime they become a veritable supporting character. I swear, I know more about what the National Broadcasting Station’s preferences are than the main characters’.

e. The promotion of MC to the most prestigious elite is natural and relevant!, because boyfie is already the elitest of the elites, okayyyy??! (Sorry I’m just tired at this point)

You know, there were points that could’ve been made here. Cannes FF was aptly described as one which glorifies films about poverty and suffering. Juxtapose it with the glitz of the red carpet, the expense of the hotels, and the luxury yachts by the bay. Also, if they attempted to explore the ML’s psyche a bit more, then he could be made more like a mortal.

[collapse]

3. Show don’t tell. Basics. Oftentimes, the sequences of events were being narrated like a summary. We don’t get to know the details, the whys and the hows, only that this person did this thing, bad person did bad thing and good person is praised for being good.

4. As per usual, foreign relations and depictions of foreign peoples and cultures are a bit hairy. No one wins if representation of other countries border on caricatures. Is it punching up or is it returning prejudice with more prejudice?

5. The translator definitely tried their best, so kudos to them. But, they were not the best person for the job. Many details in the language like colloquialisms, idioms, and internet lingo were not well translated or even fully comprehended by the tler. No shade, but there were sayings and terms that even I knew the meaning of, simply because I’ve read a lot of other cnovels. The footnotes and the surrounding text that I’ve consumed prior helped me contextualize their meanings.

The author is usually one who has great empathy towards her characters. Unfortunately I cannot extend the same towards them here. <<less

I liked this novel - the main character was a bit op and the past life was not really fleshed out other than as background for why the main character was so op. The ending was also extremely abrupt - it felt like the author had lost direction and decided to tie up the story at a nice round number.

However I thought the characters were lovely and the romance was a gentle, slow realization. I liked the gradual falling in love and sly realization between the two that they might... more>> make a good match.

I also liked how balanced the revenge and face slapping was. The MC is hard working in a lazy way and makes sure to allow others to live, but not be a doormat.

I thought there was quite a bit of nationalism in this story, but not in a way that stepped on other countries the way that some novels might.

Overall, I thought this was a fun read, without much deep insight, but with a couple interesting characters. <<less

Really had me hooked. Yes, MC is kinda OP, but it was written in a very pleasant way lol that's the only way I could describe it. MC is very likable, not just because we are told it but because the author is just really really good at showing not just telling. (Credit also goes to the superb TLs. Like seriously. So good)

This was a nice refreshing read after getting too into another one that had me stressed out of my mind. It's not completely mindless fluff or whatever.... more>> It's really more focused on MC, and the weaving in of the ML by the author. Loved their relationship development lol

The OPness might reach an almost laughable height but dammit I am here to enjoy this ride and I am laughing at it and taking it in stride because it's so easy to enjoy it ❤️

Another thing to love is that there's no s*upidly dumb misunderstanding and that the MC is definitely clear headed. While MC and ML explore their feelings like mature adults before confirming a relationship, I loved that we didn't get the usual cliche of MC running away because some random character not involved in the relationship said something.

MC is like: Low self-esteem? What's that?

Lol

The ending and extras were incredibly sweet. <<less

Great slice of life novel with a sweet romance, great friendship and family relationships and a satisfying career journey. MC and ML are both very capable and very emotionally mature so even though they didn't have any big dramatic moments or emotional ups and downs, their relationship still feels very sweet and fulfilling.

for those that say the MC is too OP and that he sails through life too easily, I think the background of his first life explains this pretty well. The ease with which he lives in his 2nd... more>> life is simply a reflection of his accumulations in his first life.

Spoiler

In MC's first life, he managed to climb out of poverty and obscurity to a high ranking civil minister that managed to retain the trust and favor of a paranoid, ruthless highly intelligent emperor that executed most of the other people that aided him in his rise. MC died in his first life from natural illness at the height of power and was buried in the imperial mausoleum by order of the emperor.

Given what he went through and achieved in his first life, it justifies his abilities in his 2nd. After all, he starts out with the full accumulation and knowledge from his first life, his background is much stronger (like yeah his family is rich with no influence but he started out from nothing in his 1st life, so having lots of money is already a much better starting point), and the challenges and opponents he's facing are simpler.

[collapse]

I really really like most of the author's books. <<less

I love love love love love it! This story cleanse me from the bad taste of the previous story left I've read before this novel.

I love how tame the story, plot, ML and MC. It has enough face slapping before but never got over board that it makes me feel satisfied. No dog blood drama and unsolicited family drama. I love how loving MC's family, they don't have any toxic elements that is commonly found in a lot of danmeis that concerns with a family. They are well written and... more>> have enough flesh.

MC? Gosh I really love him! He's so cool and chill. He may look perfect in front of the camera but he's still a human that can be lazy and little bit twisted in normal days. He's chill with everything but when he do something, he do it seriously. He may appear aloof and indifferent with others but he's actually kind. Even tho he help others in the pretense that it benefits him, he still help those in need genuinely and with all he can. He never treated anyone like they are below him unless that person harm him first.

ML? He may be the generic ML but he's still the best. Unlike the other overbearing president type, he can be cute and sensible. His love for MC is so pure that by jusf recieving a text from MC, he can already fly to the moon. He never tried to restrict MC with whatever he does. He's not possessive and jealous over simple things like other people are close to MC. He can feel jealous but its a harmless type of jealousy because he trust MC and knows his boundaries. He's also not unreasonable that he wants the validation of the public about their relationship, they prefer it to be private until they tell it voluntarily.

I love their relationship a lot. They are not always sticking to each other like as if they'll die if they didn't see each other for a day. They respect each other's personal space and decisions. Their love is also pure not all about s*xual needs (well I don't have a problem with this trope), they may often do it but it's only a cherry on top. Even holding hands and kissing on the cheeks is enough for them to feel each other's love.

Maybe this story is mature enough since the author is already a full grown adult and doesn't have any young author impulse of always writting unreasonable dramas in the story. All in all this novel is good for your heart and will not elevate your stress. <<less

It might be very Slow Romance, but it has Steady Smooth Natural Development between MC and ML. Both Characters are Calm and Collected people. They're Smart.

I Love how MC is really grateful with his Reincarnation. Having Wonderful Parents since he was born to this second life, having a Nice Enjoyable Smooth Life. Though after he became more Popular, trouble does try to find him. But he always very Calm and Ready. So everything cleared smoothly with no problem. He Loves his Parents so much and because his Parents Loves him... more>> So Much and being the Best Parents Ever!!!

At the beginning I was wondering how MC and ML could have progress if they were Stranger/barely Acquaintance to each other, but apparently not too long after they few meetings, the story would mentioned why ML reaching after MC. ML really treat MC the Best!

It's honestly really relaxing novel. It has Faceslapping but no real Conflict exist to trouble MC or ML so far. Pray the rest of the story is as Great and Satisfying!

Finished at 22 November 2022:

It was Pretty Satisfying. Nothing exaggerated. Thought there's a big scenes against someone bad. And to other people's view, it wasn't MC's 'problem' and yet MC played big role. Anyway the scene written pretty well and I Loved it!!!

The rest of the story are Great. The last Extra truly Wholesome! I'm Absolutely Loving it! <<less

If you have ever stood under a large tree in a raised but quiet part of the city in just as the sun burst from behind clouds and rising mist, you might understand how this novel felt to me. It was like a breath of fresh air in an oversaturated genre. The strength of the writing shone through like gentle sunlight. The characters are fleshed out and well written despite it's compact chapters.

The world is typical for the entertainment line in modern times that it presents. Though, these are some... more>> fantastical elements to the relationship of status and the media, for the most part it presents an organized world that tries to resemble how urban novels are characterized in general.

The main character is over-powering. That's pretty much in line with how he is written and how the author wants to show us. Though, as the author loves to put it, it is facade. In day-to-day interactions, he is cunning but slothful. We, the readers, may be able to know this about him but the world outside of his close circle believes in this reinforced image of perfection. In many ways, he is the embodiment of the ideal modern Chinese gentleman - priviledged but persevering and well-educated, talented but humble, and famous but with a strong moral foundation and integrity. This character is embedded time and time again in the minds of the readers and his audience, that even when we see the parts of him that should contradict it and offer a fresher take, it is overshadowed by the halo the author had placed on his head. In many ways, this single point is lost through the continued raising of the pedestal. This character setting is very much in line with the sentiment of treasuring heritage and cultural history that is common to the trope.

What I do enjoy the most from this character is their view on family, love and fame. I enjoy how they navigate their family life with charm, and their sentiments about love and the lasting nature of it. It is in these instances that the author really shines. This beautiful and simple humility that can be felt in the first chunk of chapters brings with it a good framework for understanding the socio-economic criticism that happens within the novel.

Spoiler

The main lead may come from new money - often linked to ostentatious displays of wealth and misplaced grandeur- that in other novels with similar tones is portrayed as greedy and licentious. The greatest villain in this novel comes from an old family with great wealth and a rich history. Where one bred a perfect gentleman, the later bred a beast in man's skin. In many parts, the author tries to say that money is not an ultimate evil, the presence of lack of it does not mean ubiquitous moral loss or degeneration. Instead, it is in the devoted upbringing, cautious familial love and the constant polishing of character that defines whether priviledge becomes poison or panacea.

[collapse]
That does not mean that all people who are afforded the same circumstances as the main lead will turn out like him because of the unique circumstances he himself experienced. This dyes the vat, so to speak.

There is nothing much to the romantic partner in way of character building. In part, this is due to his singular devotion as a ⭐ cold president who is also a soft devoted lover becase of personal familial trauma that makes it so he is also sad but kinda protective ⭐ stock character. He does something well, though, he doesn't ask for answers or explains to many things. He is steadfast. It's ideal in that way but, at the same time, makes him a one-dimensional character.

I do enjoy the way and pace their romance progresses. It's subtle but also very pronounced in how it wants you to feel. There are lots of small hints and the acuity of our main character to see but there is also hesitance. There are no grand gestures, which makes their love a shining example of humble acceptance, gradual progress and the shared willingness to cooperatively build a life together. No one gives in and no one loses out.

This is what has kept me praising the novel. It's this subtly the romance was written, how people around them view their love, and how they venture into building a life with each other.

It's perfect. And because it is perfect, none of the main cast really develops as individuals. They don't grow but are presented. As if the author went to a potluck with "handmade, homecooked" pizza straight from the delivery box. All the did was transfer it onto a stone tray and gild it with cheese. This might be the preference of the author but it doesn't make the characters as memorable as they seem without the blessing of missing out on forgetfulness soup in their past life. (No, that's not a spoiler. If you read the novel, you would know. Don't gripe about the arbitrary.)

If there is anything that I wish the author had explored, it would be the socio-political aspect of it all. They placed the pair in unique socio-economic positions that have clear political implications. In their avoidance of it, there is no resolution. In many ways, the last bonus chapters revolving this is arbitrary at best. As if it was done for the sake of compliance and an inherent disassociation with the idea in and of itself.

It's not genre breaking or thought provoking. It's just yaoi OP romance done very well. (Plus some idealism in the social conditioning aspect, that I acknowledge adds a bow to the story but also really stunts the growth of the character and the expansion of the romance plot.) <<less

So far, so good.

Correct me if I'm wrong but basically, while this is transmigration, I feel like it is more of rebirth. In Transmigration novels, they generally died and Transmigrated into different bodies who had original owners that died. What I cleaned so far was MC was born into this world aware of his previous life which is quite an interesting concept.

MC can be petty and can be ruthless but is also reasonable and his thoughts and logic makes me love him even more. Don't even get me started on... more>> MC's parents and their family scenes. Ahh, I love that.

Its somewhat similar to 'Very Happy' Qian Shao shares a similarity with MC of the mentioned novel except our MC here is much more open about his personality of not making his displeasures as is. Both MLs from the two stories also are somewhat similar. <<less

Yue Xia Die Ying's novels never dissapoint me. They are usually the smooth sailing type of story, but I think I prefer these more. I read stories for amus**ent and these type of light stories serve me well.

I think it's kinda weird how their relationship starts, but okay their progress still make sense. The MC is really blessed and I love how vindictive he can be. To quote the ML thoughts, that the contradiction is cute. Meanwhile, I think the ML is quite typical but it's okay, the protagonist is... more>> the MC anyway.

I am reluctant to mtl this story and I decided to patiently wait for the next translated chapters. So here marks my last viewed chapters. <<less
