As we all know, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jihua Hospital, which is affiliated with A Medical University has two deputy chief physicians who do not see eye to eye.

From their freshman year to their doctoral graduation and then to their training and professional title evaluation, Jiang Xu and Sheng Fangyu have been fighting and thwarting each other. It was like a case id, ‘if you don’t kill me, I will kill you’, ‘you get 96 in the exam, I’ll get 97 in the exam’.

In the end, they even fell for the same girl.

But who would have thought that before the two could even get into a fight, the girl took her girlfriend’s hand and actually came out of the closet in front of them? The two straight men, who had been at loggerheads for three months over the girl, had their three worldviews shattered.

The two enemies sat down to drown their sorrows in alcohol and in the confusion, somehow together in bed.

Afterward, Jiang Xiu got up holding his almost broken back. His mind exploded for half a minute, and he resolutely decided to forget about it.

However, three months later, he looked at the urine test report, touched his disappearing abs, and looked at himself in the mirror in disbelief.

“Ugh—”

Easy and enjoyable novel. MC, Jiang Xu, and ML, Shen Fangyu, have been rivals for ten years... in university, work, and in love. They find out that the woman they are chasing has a female lover and end up drunk together. Things happen and MC is pregnant with ML's baby. The story is pretty straightforward.

Spoiler

ML at first thought sleeping with MC was a dream. He does not realize it was for real until MC informed ML of his pregnancy. There are serious concerns about MC's pregnancy since there has been only one successful surgery for a male pregnancy.

MC at first wants to abort the baby but is unable to do so due various obstacles. ML is proactive and wants to help. ML moves in with MC and helps with improving MC's nutrition and reducing work load. MC decides to keep the baby. ML slowly falls in love with MC. MC also falls for ML.

ML performs a successful surgery to deliver their baby girl and remove the female organs from MC. The extras follow up after the surgery and their years together. :)

As the translation is only less than half of the story, I MTLed the rest knowing how much I hated MTL. I didn't even get the chance to read the extras as there's no MTL available for it. But still I enjoyed it.

This story has a simple line-up of plot but uses a uncommon topic of scientifically being pregnant when you are male. Why this was a good book is because it was written in the viewpoints of obstetrician and gynecologist and the scientific terms and facts was accurate. It... more>> really depicts all the hardships and problem one may face in terms if this happens in real life.

The romance between the two are slow but it was worth it and justified. Love how it ends and I enjoy reading it. I just hope I also read the extras.

It's a nice book and you may think that this was a comedy but it was not. It's not so heavy but it's serious. It's realistic and highly informative. <<less

I typically don't enjoy mpreg but decided to give this one a shot as I love enemies to lovers. There's really nothing quite as ridden with homoerot*c tension as being arch-rivals for over a decade with a fellow man, and these two have somehow convinced themselves that their constant need to beat the other is completely normal behavior.

The author definitely did their research into female productive health, and this novel had way more discussion about uteruses and even gender dysphoria than I expected for a mpreg danmei. The medical journals... more>> and procedures were all really interesting and reminded me of that feeling of watching one of those medical shows where suddenly I get the urge to become a doctor haha.

Romance is a slow build and while they are definitely more rivals than actual enemies, the bickering and constant one-upping of one another is a lot of fun. ML is very affirming of MC in the moments where he's struggling with the sudden pregnancy, and he's quite the smooth talker, charming and personable in contrast to MC's coldness.

MC is somewhere between a kuudere and tsundere, and I honestly never ended up liking him as much as I liked ML. He spends pretty much the entire story pregnant, so those pregnancy hormones were definitely raging around making his behavior more erratic than he otherwise would have been.

A note on the ending:
Spoiler

It was extremely anticlimactic given the buildup, and I was disappointed haha. No surprise it's a happy ending though I did hope for some dramatics.

My only annoyance reading this novel were the random moments of xenophobia and weird nationalism, bit of a rant:
Spoiler

ML gets a gun pulled on him when he's in the US and then goes on a car chase of all things to catch the criminals - the randomness is what gets to me because was this really necessary to make them confess when we already had the whole pregnancy situation going on? Author makes the US out to be this dangerous and crime ridden place multiple times in the novel, and it makes me wonder if she has ever actually visited or is just going off stereotypes lol.

Also the moments where doctors from other countries are putting down doctors from China, or refusing to share resources- the author is just making up things at this point to promote her nationalism. The extras were particularly infuriating with the East vs the West narrative, with ML being all "must publish for a domenstic journal" and fighting against the "Western media" for recognition for some odd reason.

In all seriousness, China is the country where, as it is now, novels like this are censored by force, and gay relationships aren't recognized by law, but you're still going to make it out to be the best? The fact that these two men are both genetic fathers of their daughter but can't both legally be recognized as her father is ridiculous. Imagine being that little girl, being told that your very existence is not recognized by your country?

It seems like the author is treading a thin line between pointing out flaws in the system and promoting those flaws. From some angles, it's perhaps possible to interpret this novel as a call for change? Anyway, just my rant on the topic, don't take it too seriously. I have Chinese friends and relatives, so I know this is honestly a common perspective of nationalism- propaganda runs very deep over there. The novel is still good even with my complaints on the propaganda and stereotyping.

[collapse]

Overall it's a pretty straightforward but enjoyable story. Nothing too life changing but I appreciated the author's dedication to making the medical aspect realistic and the translation is great as well! <<less

I hesitated so much before reading this because I wasn't sure what kind of plot it would be with male pregnancy and not an ABO world.

But it's so good! Not only is it detailed in the hospital setting and cases to a point that kept me invested and emotionally engaged but not bored with too much jargon, their struggles as doctors and with their families were also relatable and realistic. The mpreg is explained with sufficient logic that it was perfectly acceptable as a premise.

The best part for me was... more>> the two main leads characterisation and the slow build of their romance. It was so rich and descriptive that I fell in love with both characters and was rooting for them the whole time. The pacing felt natural and I enjoyed it every step of the way.

Fluff, mild angst, psychological societal themes, life threatening tension, romantic tension... this enemies to lovers novel ticked all the boxes for me.

My only gripe is the nationalism part in the extras. Most of the main text toed the line of being overly prejudiced, but the extras went over a bit. Presenting countries in this manner only perpetuates the prejudiced viewpoint, regardless from whichever country's perspective. But only a small point, doesn't detract much from the novel.

Definite favourite.

Oh, do wish there was smut though, haha. <<less

A must read novel. So interesting plot and amazingly the story unfolded beautifully. One of the best novel I've ever read. I felt warm and my heart swelled when finished reading. Translator did a fine job. I would love to rate it more than 5.୧| ͡ᵔ ﹏ ͡ᵔ |୨

A very well written story and good character development! What a rollercoaster ride! Thank you to the author and translator who brings this wonderful novel to life.

The MC and ML communicated very well. Also, if you're not sure about the mpreg tag don't worry, this is where mpreg is done right, it is not weird or awkward because it was explained in medical term/ways.

I like that the author makes it as realistic as possible from the relationship to pregnancy issues to their small family and the small set of friends... more>> who knows the real story behind the couple and their child.

Xiaoxiao is so cute although she didn't inherit the genes of his fathers, she's trying to carve her own "niche". Also her ultimate crush, lol!! It''s so funny, she's a cutie!

Highly recommended! <<less

This novel was so good! I was skeptical at first because I’ve never been great with career novels. They usually bored me because it was either too detailed and slow, or too many plot holes and inconsistent plot points.

However I really loved this. I loved that the amount of professional jargon wasn’t too heavy, and that there wasn’t too many patient characters that the plot had to revolve around. Instead, it was well balanced between hospital life and personal life and just as you begin to get tired of the... more>> everyday personal life, the author takes you back to the hospital and gives you an new view. It was beautifully done.

I also loved the progress and development between the characters and the mpreg. I know mpreg is widely disliked amongst some and used as a plot point to feminize the characters by others, but I’ve never been too upset over mpreg and I actually enjoy reading it because seeing men be portrayed as good loving fathers makes everything so sweet. (And has nothing to do with my daddy issues and wish that my father was actually good to me, not at all)

Anyway, I think this was done well, making the explanation scientifically sound was such an interesting idea. It even made me think of how smart it could be for the author to expand this world by exploring the evolutionarily aspect of more and more men able to have kids. How it could progressed to an ABO world setting after. I know not everyone make find that interesting, but the science is there and it’s a really interesting thought and creative approach that hasn’t been done (from what I’ve seen this far)

As far as the enemies to lovers tag goes, this was such a well written way to express it. I’ve never read much of this tag outside of fanfics, but I think it managed to capture their dislike for one another without making it an attraction thing.

I would recommend this novel to anyone honestly, I think it could fit just about anyone’s tastes. <<less

Soft burn, .

If I have to describe this novel, slow soft burn is my only choice.

The slow burn of realization of love..

... more>> The slow and soft appreciation of a new life.

I also like how the author discussed how human psychology worked with male pregnancies. It's the nearest thing we have to omegaverse and I can't say that I don't appreciate it.

I just really love these novels where the leads really think things through.. Because it's not just love but also commitment.. A promise to be together.

The best thing for me is when they decided on the baby's name.. I finally realized why I hated my own name.
Spoiler

Jiang Mu Shen.. Jiang Loves Shen..

For someone like me who has a combination of their parents name but didn't feel the love between their own parents, this really made me cry.. 🥲 It made me wish that my parents actually loved each other like the leads and did not just make me as a mistake without love.

Thank you very much to the transllator ckanda and the knoxt site for this gem. 😍 <<less

I can't believe I had a review written and just lost it all >.< GRIEF

Oh well, it's actually 4.5/5 stars for this one. I LOVE IT SO MUCH YEET

For starters, while I love when children are part of Danmei stories, I was never a huge fan of MPreg since it's usually done together with the ABO trope, which I dislike reading, so it never really grew on me. This novel popped up as a recommendation and I found it intriguing that while it is MPreg, it's also situated in a... more>> world with circumstances similar to ours, which really got my attention.

I love this novel, I really do. I really like how well the author prepared it, how well everything is explained and how the plot is so well done that MPreg actually seems to have its logic in here. MPreg is something which is inherently nonsensical in a biological context, but here the author tries to create a biological explanation for it and it's really well done and researched.

I love these characters and I love their relationship. There's no one more perfect for each other than Jiang Xu and Shen Fangyu. Only they are equivalent in skill, only they are the best competitor for each other, only they can trust each other that much, and only they can love each other as much as they do. I love their love. It's so beautiful how they reach the point of loving each other, it's not rushed, it's not because of guilty conscience, it's purely because they find in each other their most favourite person. AAAAAAAAA I LOVE THEM SO MUCH HELP. I know some people don't enjoy the slower pace at which their relationship develops, but trust me, it's WORTH IT!!

I also really like the side characters, and how the plot is constructed. There are no fillers, everything is worth reading and everything complements the story.

Just... read it! I enjoyed it way more than I was expecting to and I'm pretty sure it'll say on my list of favourites this year ~

Spoiler

ALSO, THEIR DAUGHTER IS THE ABSOLUTE CUTEST THING EVER OMG >< that scene where she gives Tang Ke and Zhang Cheng barbie dolls as girlfriends and then gets upset when they get actual girlfriends hahahaha and the fact that she's in love with Sun Wukong the monkey king and wants to be his girlfriend because "he's powerful and can catch demons" 😂😂

I. Love. This. So. Much

At first when I read the sinopsis, I expected that this will be some cliche and funny novel. But it's not. It's more than that. It's amazing, the main characters is great, no overbearing drama, and it's well written with many scientific and medical terms that makes it quite realistic.

Also the translator did a very good job. I really enjoy it. Thank you

Exactly what it says on the tin. If you like the premise, then it’s likely you’ll like the story. Well written characters, understandable conflict and journey and a genuine true slow growing love.

general warning for body dysmorphia, the MC is conflicted if he’s a man or not, due to having a uterus and a situation with a patient. Lasts for about 2 chapters and comes up again in the later chapters.

A relationship with good communication is extremely satisfying, and the characters in this particular story feel very real and genuine. Despite the main characters being a bit naive in their new relationship, their friends are very supportive and helpful. Overall, the story is heartwarming and enjoyable.

I highly recommend this novel.

The characters are well-written. The author obviously did their research for all the medical terms. And best of all, it's a very believable story.

The characters are likeable and the way their relationship develops is believable. Definitely give this novel a read. You won't regret it!

It's so rare to have a realistic mpreg--- I even forgot it was an mpreg, it felt like a possible real life case study and a true slow burn enemies to lovers love story. I like how it looked like fate was pushing them together but they were too blind to realise and kept fighting instead. And that they have personalities!

Can't forget to mention that the MC not being a complete ditz and child (I don't know why the trend is for them to be like naive innocent gum... more>> drop cry babies???) is a breath of fresh air and thank you author for not making the ML a copy paste "possesive, cold to others, uses s*x as a punishment, unrealistically powerful" trope member <<less

It was a great story.

Both the Ml's were nice and mature, communicated with each other and were very down to earth. They were a bit childish with their enmity but it only made their interactions cuter and more honest.

The characters were planned very thoroughly and the emotions were quiet consistent and relatable with the things they were facing.

It was very logical and realistic and the facts were true and not made up.

All the medical terms I can't even imagine trying to translate that but the translator did a good job.

Well written modern danmei stories. Also written from the point of view of two adults who work as obstetrician and gynecologist.

So this MC and ML had a rival relationship and then got pregnant. They experience conflict with adult-style thinking. There's no such thing as lying like a teenager or faltering in communication due to bad traits. So MC and ML have time to interact more intimately and communicate more smoothly.

Modern life background, the working world of medicine and common views on homosexuality. Obstetrician and gynecologist and the scientific terms and... more>> facts were accurate! <<less

Honestly this story was done so perfectly in its own little way. Nothing was rushed at all and all questions have been answered logically. There is no overbearing drama but it’s just a story of two guys who was unknowingly in love for 13 years. The story is so beautiful well done and it incorporates not just the leads story but also other patients and their life story and throughout it all both of them faced the problem maturely without any misunderstandings. Sometimes we often get carried away by over... more>> zealous dramatic plot but when I read this story I find that it’s important to cherish the time with our loved ones. Just started this. It was interesting to see how mpreg could be done - the story had a somewhat logical (yet magical) reason why it happened. And troubles that the pregnant father had to face - just how does one give birth? Do I tell the father? What do I do (abortion/give birth) - is this even safe?

I just like how logical it is. And it's fun.

Translations are well done - lots of medical terms yet the translator did a good job (I don't know these terms but it must... more>> have been tough) <<less

This story is very down to earth and its very slow pace. There are unnecessary parts in the story and the writing style is a bit bland. The story is heartwarming and bring a bit of normalcy to the story I have read in the past.

The character love story developed very well but it's like every other story when it comes to unexpected pregnancy and enemies to lovers.

Loveeee the story! It’s a slow burn not just magically fall in love. Love both MC ML, their interactions felt realistic. I cried a few times too but the story is not that heavy, it’s just driven by good plot. However, the last few chapters are a bit anticlimactic. But it’s totally worth the read.
