This is a short and straightforward infrastructure/zombie-apocalypse-survival novel that just so happened to hit all the right spots for me. I admit that it's very flawed, especially in terms of character development. But as a plot-driven work, it worked out just fine. All I can say is... don't expect too much from the characters XD. This is best described as a novel for those who enjoy farming/hoarding/management. Even the zombies and abilities are secondary. They're there mostly to give the MC a platform to build infrastructure freely LMFAO.

SUMMARY: The initial... more>> premise of this novel is similar to "Back to the Apocalypse". The MC is reborn a couple of months prior to the apocalypse to collect supplies and partner up with the ML. After which, there's a bit of adventuring as they gather comrades and move towards their chosen safe base. Then, it's all infrastructure! As for detailed plot, although the MC does suffer quite a lot in his first life, outside of mentioning it a couple of times, there's no real progress there. It's just there. So, don't expect any face-slapping or revenge plots XD. No healing either.

THOUGHTS: I would be lying if I said that this is a good work lolol. The reason why I have a high impression on it is purely based on personal preferences. That is... if I were to rate this with my usual criteria (characters, romance, setting, and plot-development), it wouldn't be able to measure up at all XD. That being the case, I decided to avoid doing a detailed review for the time being. All I can say for now is that if you like infrastructure novels, then you'll like it. If you don't, then you won't. XD The MC of this novel can be said to be very Gary Stue, whilst the ML is non-existent (I had high expectations based on his first few appearances, but..... he slowly began to be more and more superfluous. I mean, if he and the MC actually, I dunno, communicated, maybe there would be no reason for me to rate it so lowly XD. All they do in the story is cuddle. I don't think they have chemistry at all. And it really doesn't make sense that the ML is the leader when most of the time, all he does is act as the MC's vehicle (you'll know what I mean when you read it XD).

ANYWAY... so yeah, my impression of the characters and romantic plot is definitely not high. I'm saying it now so that you don't have any high expectations hehh. As for the MTL (I read this after translating the raws through Google Translate), it's pretty good! Some names are messed up (most prominently: Han Ya, who is translated as Hana or Asiana XD There's also Wen Le, who is referred to as Young Master or Wen Shao), gender pronouns are also messed up (as per usual), but altogether not bad. The author's writing style is relatively straightforward. So the readability is high (around 80-85%, which is very good for MTL). For the time being, I've decided to give this novel a 3.5/5 rating. Again, if it were based on my usual criteria, this would be A LOT lower. But, adding 'personal enjoyment' to my score, this is what I got hehe. <<less

More like a 2.5, but danmei zombie novel is worth it to round up. It wasn't bad, but not good. Typical zombie rebirth, space story, which I was in the mode for, so didn't mind the cliche. The characters and the plot was just underwhelming.

***My review might be slightly spoiler ish***

First the MC is very mediocre and I'm not sure what type of character the author was going for. It's like the author wanted MC to be the scary bad ass, cold type, but also wanted everyone to love him.... more>> It was a weird combination of character traits. His owner is psychic, which gives him his space and his rebirth gives him the upgraded planting space. His psychic powers are supposed to have some super powerful psychic attack, that he uses once after rebirth, and then its never used again. Also the use of the spring was dropped pretty early.

Not much to say about ML... he is a character in the story who starts off as a cold gangster type, only caring about MC and kills anyone who threatens MC. Then all of a sudden we are told my MC that ML always wanted to be in charge and he starts being kind of soft, again weird personality combo or just completely changed. Other than that, ML is just a prop so MC isn't alone.

The romance, haha what romance. Basically MC just says he will be with ML because he feels like he owes him from the first life... like wtf?! Then all of sudden somewhere down the road he loves him, and I'm guessing they finally get intimate? Only clue I have is in chapter 93 it says:

The plot meanders and has the character go to random places and stay in random places for no real good reason.

When they FINALLY set up their base, they had some good ideas for example making sure the centralized area could be self reliant with a green house and an animal area, then like 3 chapters after they are replacing the farms with weapon making equipment for some imaginary war with the local military region.

It's like they never heard of information gathering and just guess that some ruthless general is on charge of the military region. Then when they do make contact the military region gives them tanks, planes etc because they are out of food, they think the military base gave up too much and again instead of gathering Intel, they say Could it be that the chief has changed his gender?" Bai Yang asked inexplicably. im sorry what? Why is having a woman in charge equate to uneven trades?

Then the military base ends up merged into their base anyway and they quickly abandon their base and the work everyone did to move to the military base area.

Let's not even get started on how gas can still be refined, they can make a power station and power the whole base and multiple production equipments. Also instead of using abilities to help make the buildings and materials, the MC and ML go on a supply run

I do kind of like how the author approached the Tibetans, not only had them learn Chinese but also had themselves learn some of their language. Kind of wish the tribes weren't forgotten in the last part of the story. I was also waiting for the inevitable China is the best part, but it wasn't bad at all, just 1 little paragraph at the end

Because country Z was the first country to eliminate zombies, its recovery time was more than ten years earlier than that of other countries, so it directly became the world's largest country, and no one competed for it.

I don't suggest getting attached to any side characters, not that they die or anything, the author just completely forgets about most of them. I was still waiting for the little boy to have another appearance, but nada. There wasn't enough back story on what happened in the first life. I honestly don't think the author had a clear goal and plan for this novel. I don't hate that I read it, but most likely won't read again.

Started with the translation, but ended up MTLing pretty quickly. The "translation" is just slightly cleaned up MTL, many times you get she/her for MC or the names are wrong. <<less

I think the novel is satisfactory but not really amazing. It is fast-paced and many things that could be explored were skipped. The romance is underwhelming. I felt the author just said he loves him and vice versa, and that's that. No further stories, especially of the past life.

This is a pretty average story. Of the several Apocalypse novels that I have read, this one is quite unique. Usually when talking about Apocalypse, what is most discussed is the fight with zombies. But different from the others, this novel is more about the development of the base. There isn't much discussion about fighting zombies except at the beginning. MC and ML's interaction was also quite lacking, the relationship between the two of them was too hasty. The ending is quite good, but it's too rushed to be spent... more>> in 1 chapter. Oh yes, and the level development is quite unique, the last recorded level is level 3 (unlike other novels which go up to level 9). This story is good enough to read casually to fill spare time because there is not too much tension. <<less

So rebirth before the zombie apocalypse is really one of my favourite tropes. But honestly, there is really something lacking in this novel, and I fully agree with the review of PeachesUntamed.
The author, while trying to explain why he made the MC the way he was had some contradictory characteristics that didn't make any sense. The same goes for the ML, but also the rest of the main characters. They used to be gangsters, but the author made them more like a powerful business team, that at the beginning were ruthless, but became more more thoughtful of others as the story progressed.

Then we have the whole development of the story and how it unfolded. It just felt flat.

Lastly, the last chapter was really a "this and this happened - the end".

We do not have any resolution on the romantic relationships of the characters - we only read about them kissing, did the MC finally stop thinking as a straight guy and had s*x with the ML?
Did the side couple has a resolution ?

What was the reason of the s*xual assault of Han Ya, besides showing Wen le's power, which that particular power was only talked about once ?

Lastly, living in a base that had everything so people were able to relax, the point of no showing or talking about preventing or experiencing pregnancies is always laughable to me.

So I read it till the end, but only as a novel to pass my time not something to keep thinking about or save to my liked ones.

This was just "Okay". It wasn't the best. The story could have been better with better details and depth, but I wasn't disappointed. I wish they had given more information/descriptions and character of the ML; but unfortunately, there was none. He was supposedly important, but you could not grasp this point in the story. Also, the character of the MC was not as in depth as you would hope. This is my first time reading an 'Apocolypse' story so I can give what I was hoping for versus what I... more>> got. One of my most favorite genres (apocalypse) and even most favorite sub-genre (rebirth), however, I'm not sure who to blame between - the author with an idea but lacks talent and/or professionalism - or the "translator" who chopped up a story with potential

But again, maybe it's because the novel is quite old (so I'll give the author the benefit of the doubt) that the genre had just sprung up and they decided to jump on the bandwagon to capitalize off of it.

At first, I wanted to drop this book. It had terrible translation and editing. But I stuck around and lo and behold; it actually became better.

It's just another book about an MC transmigrating back to just before the apocalypse and getting prepared first and all that. I actually enjoyed the book, till like the 40s chapter where they joined a camp and I just lost interest. From there I was just skipping 10 chapters at a time, it was really boring.

Apocalypse and rebirth one of my favourite genre. The story are passable, definitely light reading. It fun for those who wanna read it go ahead. But I really dont whose fault, ist author or translator?

I became interested in this novel bcoz of the description/ synopsis. Since the novel are still translated I wanna wait until it finish bcoz I wanna read a better translation instead of mtl. But the translation are confusing sometime, I dont who's who, sometime there's misgender or the sentence doesn't feel complete. Idk since english isnt... more>> my native language. <<less

Giving 5⭐⭐⭐⭐ just for translator effort. Sometimes I feel it's like MTL.

Giving 3⭐⭐⭐ for author to come out with the story.

Giving 😪 for the romance.

Giving 🤐 for the zombies.

Actually not much in the story. But it's good if you like world building and farming. It was funny at times. Good to pass time as I was starving for this genre after END OF WORLD BUSINESSMAN. But I love the space abilities the mostly. Shall the world come to and end... I want this space or spatial abilities the most.

It’s a light read, has a sprinkle of little bits of suspense but ultimately not too deep.

For an apocalyptic setting, the story itself had little to do with Zombies. It was more centred on infrastructure building than anything else. The usual apocalypse abilities weren’t expounded upon, so there wasn’t any real drama or power struggles.

The relationship between the MC and ML isn’t anything special. It almost feels like all the characters are background characters (including the main characters). The story was building up to something and then abruptly ends so there’s some unresolved things

Like MC’s ability to attack with his mental power when he lost control over his emotions (because of his previous life) is never talked about or resolved. I was so interested in this plot line 😢

Good read, but the end was a bit abrupt. They put everything in the last chapter. If you want romance, I don't recommend this reading, it's more focused on survival and development during an apocalypse.

Quite satisfying apocalypse trope. If you're familiar with this genre, then the story would be familiar. No unexpected arc that can put this story above others, but it's also not disappointing.

A light read for apocalypse story enjoyer.

Really easy read. The chapters aren't too long and the zombie Apocalypse structure is easy to follow.

Zombie Apocalypse, rebirth, second chance at life, redo life, second chance, mafia boss ML, rich second generation MC, orphan MC.

The MC used to be straight. Naive and innocent and caused people's deaths. Reborn as not being that naive anymore and learnt to protect the people who he cares about even if it means being bloodthirsty.

The ML always loved the MC and protected him in the dark even before they got together. But the fact... more>> that it took the MLs death in the previous life for the MC to appreciate him and all the things he has done for him is kind of upsetting and selfish. <<less
