“I hereby break my engagement with you! A commoner researcher has received a medal for his efforts. As a reward, I will marry you to him!”

The Duke’s daughter, Wilhelmina, is told at a night party that her engagement to the Crown Prince has been broken off. The Crown Prince sets her up, banishing her from her parents’ home with only a small amount of money as a farewell gift, and marries her off to a commoner researcher whom she has never seen before.

——This is my husband, a tacky man.

He is tall but skinny, with a stoop and ill-fitting clothes due to his thinness. He has messy hair and is unkempt in appearance. This is Alex, her husband. At first, the two are awkward around each other, but Wilhelmina supports his research and helps improve his appearance, leading to a mutual attraction. They become happy and rise to the top, even seeking revenge on her family and the Crown Prince who banished her. Meanwhile, those who exiled her will suffer ruin.

It's good and satisfying! At least superior in its genre nowadays. FL is certainly knows her purpose and very straight to her goal. It's 'capable and confidence' FL meet 'insecure and genius' ML.

I love the economy side of the story, but I wish the politic could be shown further instead faction this and faction that. Poor King, but it's his fault to let this happen including the bias treatement between commoner and noble especially in ML's workplace. I wish the unfairness could be shown too. I kind of regret that the Crown Prince's character is idiot in early chapter. If only he was a bit calmer and sly.

MTLed to the end.

TLDR: It's a satisfying read.

FL is always full of dignity and she knows her worth. Oh, and she is not a 'saint' so the revenge part is satisfying but not a 'devil' either so it is also very fair. It's NOT a bloody revenge novel if that's what you're looking for.

ML is adorable but NOT her s*ave. He loves her, it is easy to see that, but it's the normal kind of love. Not yandere kind of love. All in all, he is a pleasant human being... more>> with his own insecurities, worries and thoughts.

Lots of politics as well but not too much for peasants like me to handle.

The other characters including the girl whose FL's ex-fiance goes for are NOT 2D characters. It's good to see from the girl's POV that she's not the typical completely brainless and hateful antagonist. <<less

Translation is a little weird on the pronouns and jumps from first to third perspective a bit so it gets hard making out who each chapter is about until a few paragraphs in.

The story itself is also a bit weird as it doesn't focus too much on details and just hyper speeds through everything while making it feel like a short amount of time has passed. Even though the story takes place over 1 year (at least, possibly longer), the way it is written makes it seem like it's only... more>> a few days.

The MC is a very smart woman who was raised to be the Crown Prince's Wife and future Queen. She gave up fifteen years of her life for this goal and was considered the ideal image of a Noble Woman. Only for this to be shattered in a typical fashion with the Crown Prince choosing love and breaking the engagement in a spectacularly daft way.

The ML is a commoner research who has been treated terribly by the institute he is part of. He was chosen to be the MC's new spouse because his boss was a noble who looked down on him. However, he is very much a genius and works on creating a method to create magic stones.

The combination of the two of them is rather entertaining. He's the intelligence and she's the wisdom. However, everything happens at an unjustifiable speed. There is no suspense or build up to the quick ways things are handled. The way the Antagonists gets handled is also a little bit odd and anti-climatic.

Spoiler

In the end, the Crown Prince who has shown no signs of self-awareness throughout the entire story suddenly has an epiphany at the end and realizes just how shitty he has been. The King then offers for both him and the Crown Prince to commit su*cide. Which doesn't happen as the MC/ML (it's really hard to tell which it is with the translation) commute their sentence so that they would be forced to live and see the change in the world.

The Cardinal who forced the marriage loses his place in the church and the Pope hangs around to help restore the country to some semblance of normalcy.

This does have a religion that is not inherently evil but it's a bit heavy handed with the religion. Several incidents of praying. It struck me as odd that the author fully wrote out the prayers while gave the cliff notes about everything else.

Finally the ending is an even more sped up part of the story.

Spoiler

It covers everything from their wedding to the birth of their oldest child (then mentioning that they had more kids) and the death of the MC's father (which happened off screen). It even goes on to say that the pair became Saints even though their inventions led to a lot of deaths (but it saved lives too!).

[collapse]

Not the best but not the worst either. Have to say that it's a pretty quick read despite the amount of chapters as the chapters are really small. <<less

Sweet little revenge/romance story that carries all the way through. A lot of the phrasing and translation was pretty darn awkward, but it was still fairly well done. Also probably the only story I’ve seen so far (out of 100 or so light novels & manwha) where a high-ranking FL marries a commoner and that in itself earns it at least 1.5 stars; he didn’t end up getting promoted, adopted, or discovered as the secret illegitimate child of anyone. Standing ovation to the author for that.

Not a happy go lucky MC but resourceful and strong mentality. In her case love is not at first sight but through experience such as support and care. Loved how she didn’t turn ditzy nor saint but did have closure without having to change oneself’s believes and limits.

So, so good. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Competent, sincere, vengeful and "villainous" MC with her sweet, emotionally normal omfg, genius but shy and introverted hubby, who get to know each other and fall in love so genuinely that you might cry from the cuteness. Lots so business stuff but it's never too complicated and it's melded so well with everything in the story there's nothing to complain about. The schemes and plans are so satisfying and I love all the characters (aside from the ones we're supposed to dislike, obvs).

Everything feels very planned... more>> out and they focus a lot on the build-up, so the ending may seem to come kind of suddenly. But I was very content. 😌 <<less

Very good, very satisfying. Competent FL, competent ML, heartwarming interactions, good relationship. Steady progress in research, business and relationship and revenge. Very enjoyable read, nothing to complain about.

One of the rare non-regressor villainess novels but it's pretty typical otherwise. Good story for fans of commerce/economic titles with some light romance and face slapping. Ending is rushed but good enough. Similar to "Villainess Turns the Hour Glass" overall. I'd recommend as a nice, short read.

I'ts a mediocre story I would give it a 2.5 stars but since that's not possible i'll give it 2 stars.

the characters are to simplistic and very few of them like the crown prince has brothers but hardly mentioned.

MC one of her brother is mentioned sometimes buit has no impact in the story except for feeling sympathy for his older sister and her other sister besides mentioning never get to see them in the story and there are other examples to.

and seems the author dosn't really knows how fiefdoms work... more>> I am not a expert at it myself but the reason land is given to the nobles is so they can develop that land like for example for agriculture, mining or rights of exploitation like fishing, hunting, military and so on but the author makes these people completely incompetent and reliant on magic stones and depicts without that resource they're useless.

there are other problems but only way to explain that is by spoiling it and I don't want that so yeah that is my review. <<less
