In his previous life, Ji Sheng was a popular star who was framed and eventually died in disgrace.

Reborn as an 18th tier artist, Ji Sheng is determined to take revenge. In order to climb to the top of the world of fame and fortune, he does not hesitate to send himself to the bed of Xie Xuanming, his enemy in the previous life.

Xie Xuanming is handsome, rich and can be considered a perfect lover.

It’s a pity that there is a white moonlight in his heart.

On the first meeting after rebirth, Xie Xuanming squeezed Ji Sheng’s chin and narrowed his eyes.

Xie Xuanming: You look like him.

Ji Sheng: Hehe, I knew it in my previous life.

One day, Xie Xuanming was drunk and crazy, dragging Ji Sheng to visit the white moonlight’s grave.

Xie Xuanming hugged the tombstone tenderly: I knew him for several years, but he never loved me.

Ji Sheng: Hmm, no love, no love.

Xie Xuanming stroked the nameplate with the tips of his fingers: Obviously he approached me first and my heart was stirred, only to find that he was playing games.

Ji Sheng: Yeah, acting, acting.

Xie Xuanming: Come closer, let him see. It’s not like I am alone, it’s not like no one wants me.

Ji Sheng had no choice, stepped forward and froze.

Ji Sheng: Wait, isn’t this my grave?

Damn damn damn ohhhh god, it's a miraculous gem.

It's a mesmerizing story of youth, love, innocence, naivety, and a bit of dark theme.

It's really a hidden gem, why till now I didn't ever received it's recommendation, trust me it's a very nice story.

... more>> I enjoyed it very muchh, be it the MC Or ML they were sweethearts.

It's a typical rebirth and a bit of revenge story, where after rebirth MC realize who were really care and good towards him.

I read the reviews saying the past life chapter's were not distinguished and it lead to confusion, but I never thought so while reading it. For me it felt quite organized and I feel it was the true essence of the story, at first here and then the next there.

I also read reviews saying ml, MC's ex, MC's mother, MC's friend when realize that MC is reborn there was no big reaction, it's true I also felt that but not for ML he was confused, in disbelief, remorse and happy.

In his youth years when they formed the band, he was so naive and cute I really enjoyed those chapters of his, but ahhh he had to fell in love with that sheng guy, anyway who don't mistakes in their youth ≧﹏≦ he just wanted to be a great drummer, oof and later he couldn't due to a freaking b*tch.

But on later the way he interacted with ML without clarifying his actions, left me really in a very irritated mood. And the betrayal he suffered from his do called frends and so called bf was just oof. I really felt very sad.

And ML I have to say he was my favourite character in the whole story, he was soo cute and confused guy. He really loved MC alot and he had already decided to wait for MC, and he was the one who suffered the most, my heart ached so much for him.

He tried protecting MC with all his might, but failed, ge suffered a lot, grieved a lot, ahhh he was soo cute fella. He was way to straightforward and don't know how to express himself.

And the most disgusting character was MC's ex. I really hated him, so what he loved MC, he never stood up for him, never defended him, even protected and ignored a potential criminal at that time and after death what he was guilty, depressed, anxious in all words he was disgusting. He never really did anything just stood aside as a spectator and only focused on his career, not caring anything about MC. Despite knowing the reason MC died, despite knowing who killed him he just stood aside and feeling guilty yukk I really hate him. And after he found MC alive, he ran to MC saying he was sorry and missed him wtf. And when he found out about ml's revenge he asked MC to let them go..

Ahhhh anyway I enjoyed the story very muchh. It was indeed a 35% present and 65%past. But I loved it.

I actually liked the extra time line much more anyway if that were to happen the story would be only fluff and romance.

I would highly recommend it to everyone and do leave a comment behind it would help others.

Thanku author as well as translators for ur hard work, the translation done by the xiao yun yun are really awesome it's my about 4 th novel translated by them it's really nice.

Ohhh guys but plz if anyone of u know where to read the nsfw chapters of the story plz do share the link with me thanku in advance. <<less

Absolutely loved it! I'd have liked a little more of seeing MC realizing how soft he is on ML, but I was really pleased with this read. I don't usually see entertainment circle danmei using black fans for plot, so this felt intriguing. Like another reviewer said, the novel is a 4 and the translation brings it to a 5. The flashbacks were a little confusing because they were just in the middle of chapters and not distinguished by formatting, but by just reading it there wasn't much difficulty. I... more>> really like all the genre archetypes this novel falls into, and it was fully satisfactory. Really appreciated that the ex-boyf wasn't mean to MC, and did always like him- he just was too calculating with his career and cared more about fame than music, which is a pretty realistic conflict. ML is a bit of a yandere, but his actions are repeatedly disavowed and disliked by all of the other characters, rather than normalized or romanticized, and he is shown to be getting mental health help for his acknowledged instability, so I don't really get readers being upset about it? What more do you want... In fact, he never even sought out a substitute, which is more than one could say regarding Professional Body Double, or most white moonlight novels. He was 100% clear at all times that he was exclusively interested in the original person, grudgingly cooperating with reborn MC for the investigation before he figures out the rebirth. The characters here were great, the emotions, the angst, the prose is delicious, I love the mom and the streamer friend, and it felt super fluffy. Highly recommend this one, and it's short too. Sorry for the unreadable formatting of this review, I wrote it on mobile. Thank you SO SO SO much to yunyun for translating, I really appreciated being able to read this novel!! It was a very good pick to share!! <<less

Good novel. It's got all the juicy bits we like from "substitute for white moonlight" tropes, except without the toxic terrible abusive ML and s*upidly giving pathetic MC. Read this for that good good angst and dramatic plot. ML is mean to MC's reincarnated self, but not cruel. He may refuse to help at times, but with enough wheedling, he always ends up lending a hand.

Spoiler

Even when he's mean to MC at the beginning, not knowing his identity, there is a reason (hint: the MC's "new" body was not the best person) . Also, it just means that he treasures MC (before death) so much, that he's not just gonna go ahead and spoil any substitute that comes along. That would've been degrading to the MC.

[collapse]

The MC is pretty likable. He's shameless, smart, and bickers with ML. He also adapts to circumstances, and doesn't case unnecessary conflict with ML.

Spoiler

Would have been nice if we figured out the exact reason MC's ex accused him of s*xual harassment, and what exactly was MC's ex's relationship with the saseng fan, and gotten more of ex's perspective, but well, the reasons behind the un-elaborated things can ultimately be inferred from info given in the text.

[collapse]

Anyways, short review because I'm tired, but I really do recommend this. It should be 4.5+, but given the nature of this trope, generally, it's rated lower.

First I would like to express thanks to the translator. Really really good job. The English text is so fluent and natural.

Now the novel. Although it follows all usual tropes they are well executed. Backstabbing, dirty tricks, online wars - all the usual components of the entertainment industry novels are here but not ridiculously excessive. What separates this novel from others that I read so far in this genre is a detective plot twist. MC does not come back just to take a revenge and have a good life after.... more>> First he has to find out who actually killed him.

I really liked flashbacks which painted how all involved parties got to the current point very vividly. Author and translator managed to express the strong and vibrant youths striving for their dreams so well. Some of the dialogs were just brilliant. I often tend to skip flashbacks to get to the main plot faster but not with this novel.

Also last but not least is the MC. I loved this guy character. He is so 3d. His reactions, words and deeds are a mixture of smartness, scheming but at the same time idealistic. He is so true to himself. <<less

I liked it a lot since I’m a sucker for rich lover helping poor main character~~~ but also they’re relationship is really cute (once you get passed the misunderstandings) and really satisfying to read the antagonist get out in their place! I did get confused on what was the past and what was the present but as confusing as it was I still really enjoyed reading. It was a great translation as well thank you!

Novel is a 4, translation bumped it to a 5.

One of the best translations of a novel here on NU. The language used is super engaging and immersive. One or two hiccups, but overall very impressed with this translator's efforts!

This is your classic rebirth novel, but I enjoyed it a great deal anyway.

The MC had a very charming personality, very much like your boy-next-door type of feel. Super kind and generous with a mischievious (and sarcastic) internal dialogue. MC is also a drummer (not a lead singer/actor/model) which is quite... more>> unique in showbiz novels. MCs with personalities this vivacious are very rare, so highly recommend!

ML is more typical cold/overbearing CEO-style, very vicious and has a big temper. Except not so much around the MC.

Romance was very engaging. I don't particularly enjoy long flashbacks, but in this case, the flashbacks were translated so well and the writing was super immersive. The little actions of the youths and the details of how each moment built up, adding to how the MC and ML fell in love were described very beautifully.

Overall a pretty good novel with lots of hilarious and enjoyable cliches like amnesia (!?), transmigration, past misunderstandings, tragic backstories, and more. <<less

I have mixed feelings about this story. On one hand, the MC was really too unlikable, and on the other hand, the ML was basically a mad dog.

There were things I liked and disliked with the novel, but the translations were absolutely wonderful. The plot in itself has been well thought out, but the non-linear storytelling really put me off. It's really hard to succeed in writing a good non-linear story (eg: mdzs) and this one didn't quite make it.

There were long flashbacks that went on for ages. It felt... more>> like 90% of the story was flashbacks. It was so disorienting to read it because sometimes I'd be immersed in what's happening now and then immediately, there's a longass flashback to the past. It would be fine if the flashbacks were small, but the first flashback was like 1/3rd of the entire book, and there were more than 3 flashbacks. The way the author brought us out of those flashbacks was also very jarring.

The extras also disappointed me. They were about the past. It wouldn't be bad if the past wasn't very painful. And the MC making wrong decisions and then proceeding to make worse decisions to deal with the consequences is just so frustrating. Anybody with half a braincell would think twice after being screwed over by people, but not this MC. The ML tried so hard and he's legit so pitiful, no wonder he got psychotic and turned crazy after everything.

The ML once told MC that the MC had never chosen the ML in anything, and he's right. Even till the ending, after always making the wrong decisions, the MC never thought about reflecting on himself to see where he went wrong. He always thought "I'm the older one. What I do for ML is definitely the best for him". ML was abandoned so many times and MC never thought twice before abandoning him again and again. It's so irritating honestly.

The MC does get some character development, and the ML gets better. Even if their relationship isn't exactly healthy, I wouldn't call the ML yandere, he's a mental patient, and he's trying hard to get better by going to psychologists and taking medication and stuff, but the MC's actions always make him regress. With how bad the MC's decisions are, it's no wonder he died so young. And he'd have died again if the ML hadn't been there to protect him like a talisman.

My favourite characters were undoubtedly MC's mother and his esports livestreamer friend. The esports friend is so good I pity him for having a friend like MC who always chooses the wrong people, and then forgives them after being screwed again and again, while hurting the people who actually care about him.

This also brings me to my next point;
Spoiler

the villains didn't get their just desserts. How much had the MC suffered? How much had the ML suffered? What retribution did the villains get? Getting cursed at by some fans. One of them declared bankruptcy and the other is still a celebrity, just a hated one. It's not even 1% of what they had caused others to suffer. In a bid to make this novel 'realistic', the author really made it too realistic, as in there's no actual justice in the world. The MC's ex has the option of getting back up again after the storm settles, the public have the memory of a pigeon, he can totally make a comeback. The things he did should've seen him behind bars, but they didn't. The other villain, his company got bankrupt, but even till the end of the story we still see that he has enough influence and money to keep smearing MC and ML. These ppl literally killed the MC, the retribution they get is not enough at all. Not to mention that they aren't the ones who'd ever repent their actions.

[collapse]

Tldr; The story is well written and well translated, there's a lot of character development too, the progression is good and the writing is full of emotions, but it's not likeable. It gave me all the wrong feelings in a bad way. The flashbacks that decreased immersion, the unlikeable MC, the fact that there wasn't much romance made this story not-so-enjoyable I also can't rest easy that the main characters will live happily everafter considering that the villains are still out there making trouble, the ending was also unsatisfactory. I was happy we had 3 extras but they just had to be about the painful past. I'd say this entire story was written like a CDrama, the way things were described was so vivid that I could picture them in my mind, but it was also so melodramatic with too much pain and frustration and the payoff at the ending was just not enough. <<less

This was a pretty good rebirth story over all. The author actually included the bulk of the first life by cutting back and forth with flash backs. There were a couple rough transitions but other than that I thought it was pretty effective. Especially since the key events that led to the MC's death were given out slowly rather than summarized at the beginning.

I rather liked that both the MC and ML were awkward at love but in different ways. The MC in his original life was cheery and saw... more>> the best in people. I also felt like he was a bit afraid of the intensity of the MLs feelings - hence getting tangled with a scumbag. The ML was the typical ice man with an inability to fully express his feelings... especially when he saw that the MC had eyes for the scumbag.

I thought the scumbag was well done as a villain. He comes across as nice -not in the overly nice hiding crazy way, but just nice - and friendly most of the time. Then his complete hypocrisy comes through and you see that he's the worst kind of cowardly scum and you are so happy to see him get what he deserves.

Overall a very enjoyable story, it was only dragged down a little bit by some awkward transitions between the flashbacks and the present. Still worth reading. Enjoy! <<less

First of all, thank you very much to the translator for your hard work!

This was an enjoyable read, but I didn't finish the novel. I don't hate it, I just never really got into the entertainment industry type of story. So, I think getting to chapter 70 is good enough.

To some extent, I kind of agree that the sudden switch between the flashbacks and present moment does feel too abrupt. It has this feel like the author needs an explanation before going into a critical part of the story and... more>> ruins the flow a bit. I'm not saying I don't like the attempt or that it sucks, but I feel that if the author did the flashback all in one go, it would seem less messy and doesn't come across as unreliable narration because this is mostly from the MC's perspective.

Speaking of the MC, I love him. A little oblivious (maybe too oblivious?) but he had a lot of common sense in him and he actually uses his brain. The only part I wasn't happy about his character is how physically weak he is in both bodies. In the substitute body, you know he's weak because the dude was a malnourished country kid, but the old body shouldn't be, and yet he was still owned by a woman. If the author had left out the whole "she was stronger than him" and went with he didn't/chose not to resist because she's a woman and he's pretty much a star, I would have accepted that more. Overall, he's sensible.

For the ML..... we can see that cancel culture is prominent in the story toward the MC..... so I'm surprised this dude has not been canceled regardless of his position in the entertainment industry. While I partially take delight in his ability to have things go his way, his character was too OP and unrealistic. Even for the love rival, his struggles made a lot of sense compare to the ML. ML is literally an emperor, untouchable, and I feel that the author tried too hard with him as if the inspiration behind his character were all based on the stereotypical CEO who gets thing their way as long as money can pay for it. He is very lucky no one is tapping him too and exploiting him on the super topics.

I also feel that the author has very little knowledge about how real fandoms works. Perhaps when this story was published C-netizens are a lot more calm like in the novel and that's probably why I feel it's very different compared to today's craziness.

In the end, even though I didn't finish the story, I recommend the story. I plan to come back and finish it. <<less

ML pulls a first love excuse out of his ass and MC believes him please the two of them are disasters?? Like ML legit told MC that he kissed MC because MC looks like his "first love" and then in the next life MC is still like ah yes he's keeping me around because I look like his first love and everyone is pushing me towards ML because I look like my original body... and somehow he just goes along with this??

[collapse]

What a misunderstanding to last a lifetime... and then to carry on to the next life.

The plot of this was very interesting, but the execution was a bit confusing for me. Some of the flashback portions started and ended very abruptly and I wasn't sure where in the story I was. I couldn't really follow what was going on a few times because of them.

The romance was a little lukewarm as well, I didn't really feel the emotions of the present day very well. The most I felt was when ML had his unrequited crush in the last life, but it's a bit lacking when present day doesn't have the same emotional grip since that's the world they actually can confirm their feelings.

It's a shame because the potential is there but I just didn't feel as sad as the plot should warrant. I think the problem overall with this story though is that I never really felt that MC genuinely liked ML. He never really apologized for how he treated ML in the past, and his emotions weren't conveyed very authentically. It all felt very surface level.

I really lost interest in the last few chapters because of this. It was actually really hard to finish reading because the romance element was just so halfhearted. MC really needed to have a moment of reflection and he never groveled to ML which I truly and spiritually needed from him. <<less

The title & synopsis is misleading

it isn't really a dog blood substitute crematorium story. But it's a very good entertainment romance novel.

The back & forth flashbacks without clear cut offs were confusing to the point that I sometimes lost track of what was happening previously

also because there were a lot of dejavu moments. Despite that, key enjoyment point was the conveying of the ML's emotional state and actions, and some of the fluff.

What would have taken this from a 4 to 5 star novel:

    • Wish the betrayal of SKZ was clearer and the portrayal of MC's hurt was presented stronger so I could have engaged more and potentially cried.
    • Wish there were less back & forths, just present the past then go to the future; don't need to keep jumping to slowly reveal the plot. Feel like it would have been a richer engagement if I were not so lost.
    • More understanding of Li Tan and SKZ as to why they did what they did. There was some younger brother character build but most of it felt randomly thrown in which didn't flow properly for me.
Other than that, really liked Su Jing's character and ML's youth/backstory build. MC's past trauma and growth also made some sense alongside the slow realisation of his feelings

and the quick expression of it after. The extras were also really cute. Wish there were more fluff.

Didn't really get the butterflies, nor did I cry while reading (am I getting numb from reading too much?) but it was a enjoyable enough ride to warrant a re-read.

One of the worst transmigration (reborn) novels I have ever read.

Hmmm. If you like fluff, don't read this. You'll just find the plot annoying. ;/ (Maybe I was wrong with this remark but this novel really wasn't my cup of tea)

Annoying points I couldn't accept

Spoiler

*MC died because he was obviously targeted by someone. But he still didn't have a sense of crisis and sense of danger. The enemy was still lurking you know. -_-

*His friends, ML, ex, his mom knew about him being reborn. Nani? They accepted it as a fact. -_- What the f? He died okay. He died. Please have some appropriate reactions -_-

*ML and MC did it. The first time was dubious (MC drank some kind of drug). The second time was kinda like r*pe.

*Once you read more chapters, you'll realize that NO ONE LISTENED to MC. -_- MC had some fault here. He just let himself be beaten and not complaining at all. Which was not the reality of life. -_- His resources got snatched, he didn't say anything. He couldn't play his drums anymore, he couldn't say anything. He wanted to act, they didn't listen to him. He was the victim, netizens had been killing him with bad comments. -_-

what the h*ll.

*MC wasn't smart at all. -_- I thought he was quirky. But I'm wrong to expect that from him. -_-

*Chapters had a looooot of depressing flashbacks especially from chapter 1-65. -_-

I've read many rebirth novels, though I have some that I've been disappointed with, this is the first one I felt that's been badly written. It's a complete mess with the supposedly main issue of this novel was to take revenge but the author completely deviated from its initial plot.

Spoiler

This is about the MC who has been wronged in his previous life and killed then he reborn in another body. His main objective find who wronged him and who killed him. To do that he send himself to his enemy the ml.

Oh my God, throughout the whole novel uptil chapter 84 I'm still looking for clues about where ML became the effing enemy of the MC. WHERE??

The characters are really badly written.

The MC upon his rebirth has become a different character. He used to be this bright person but sowehow became someone who can be easily bullied by the ml. Somehow everyone can recognize he ended up in another body and no one questioned it and readily accepted it.

As for the ml, the author couldn't decide upon how to portray him: Yandere, psychotic, Black bellied, or just f*cking selfish. He used to be normal until the changed due to something..... A misunderstanding, LACK OF COMMUNICATION,

As for the villains, *scoff* the author chose to focus more on the daily life of the mains and just threw a scandal on them which ended up ruining them. That's all as revenge.

Something which ended up pissing me off was the past. Gosh chapters upon chapters to narrate their past to the point where I started considering skipping chapters. I usually hate doing this, and if I started this means the novel starts getting boring and makes me want to quit it halfway. Which is what finally happened when I realized I was still on ch84 where the ML was still being a brat and I had to read till 100, gosh I wanted a revenge story but ended up having to read the MC and ML being s*upid and not knowing how to communicate.

The revenge plot ends up being solved middle of novel like ch50 or 60, then it gets focused on the supposedly psychotic ml. Lo and behold, when your ML gets jealous what happen...... r*pe! Ohhh and the ML f*cking justifies that the MC do not like him it's just gratitude or whatever....... author really. Oh my God, I wasted an entire day reading this piece of... Im so mad

At first I thought it was going to be a revenge story and a strong willed MC. But the most narration is about MC and ML past, both that are depressing at some point in time. K, you need the past to understand the present but the author has a tendency to show the characters strong personalities sometimes and afterwards, they became s*upid and doormats even if she tried to justify. Honestly MC wants to know the truth behind his '' mu*der'' but towards the return to the past sequences... more>> are too slow and long and break the rhythmn and interest in the plot.. And the ambiguity with MC and his childhood sweat heart, is chaotic:. I don't know if they were at one point together because it seems even in private, they never had a couple pdas or intimacy. Are they really in love? In the end, it makes it hard to read. <<less
