Trash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

Meant to click 5 stars!!

Legit made an account just to review this light novel. 5 stars. Trust me when I say, The wait. Is. Worth it.

There's a quote by C.S. Lewis (author of Narnia) that goes "Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different." It perfectly describes TCF.

This novel is all about story building. It makes more and more sense the more chapters you read. It has no romance, which I think is perfect—it's not the type of story that needs... more>> it, and the MC isn't the type to fall in love. Instead it focuses on friendships and connections, which feels much more rewarding. It plays heavily into the "misunderstandings" trope, and I LOVE IT. Everyone praises Cale for his actions and how everything seemingly plays right into his hands, when it's really just cale remarking at his crazy luck and dishonorable intentions lol. Cale is a shameless, money-hungry, slightly cowardly and dishonest tr*shy man-turned-hero to everyone he runs into lol. But he has a heart of gold (whether he admits it or not) and an iron will to make it so that he can be a slacker for the rest of his life.

(also has a lot of self-sacrifice, whump and TLC for my folks who have those preferences ;))

Now to say what I really like about this novel >\<!

1-The writing. It's amazing quality, practically written as if it were in english the whole time. Translators did a wonderful job! It is full of complex themes and plots all placed together. It sort of seems confusing at first, but all the writing is easy to digest and understand. It's hilarious, and the author is fantastic at making relevant references to poke fun at situations in the story. It is beautiful at describing things, and the translators are always willing to expand on and explain further a few concepts, allowing you to fully grasp the meaning of the story.

2- Plot. The story and world building is on par with that of Lord of the rings or harry potter. It's slow paced, giving you time to be introduced and connect with the characters and world before giving you the main enemy and storyline. The author has designed such a unique, complex world that has layer after layer to it! It seems like a simple transmigration story, until the forth wall breaks, like 50 times over in the story. It's also just is full of political intrigue, schemes, mu*der of obscure secondary characters, underhanded tactics, and lots of actions and character placements that don't make sense until, like, 40 chapters later. I found myself reading it and going "Ooohhh, that's why that happened earlier!" Along with the absolute brilliance and strategy of the storyline, it also tugs at your heartstrings. It has bittersweet and sad moments. I've felt myself tear up in certain situations. You really feel like you're experiencing the world alongside Cale.

3- CHARACTERS :D! I LOVE all the characters in this novel!!! You will have to be patient to meet the really great characters later on in the series, but lemme just say, we all love Eruhaben ;) Each character has a unique personality, and are very fleshed out across the series. Even Cale's powers have very... distinct personalities. It's very impressive when you see the sheer amount of people that get introduced throughout. Some are very important in the beginning, some are later on, but you get fair and equal interactions with each one, depending on if they're side or supporting characters. I love how all the relationships are interconnected, from Cale's transmigrated life, to his former. We get amazing backstories and deeper dives into them. The main crew becomes a tight-knit family, gone through thick and thin for each other.

Nothing is done on accident, and it's excellent. Highly, HIGHLY recommend if you genuinely want a great read, lovable characters, a proper overarching plot, and appreciate war/fighting scenes, schemes, and build up. <<less

One of those novels that started as a chill read and developing into something epic with fights, plots and overall set up of events, for me I like the fact that MC is acting against what he says he is, being a slacker. I started reading the manhwa and got too impatient and hopped into the novel XD. It has a good sprinkle of comedy and cuteness so if you're into that might as well read and see if you'll enjoy it as well.

God I love this novel so much.

I started reading the novel because I was too impatient to wait for the manhua chapters to come out, so I read it from the beginning. There's obviously a lot the manhua left out so I was pleasantly surprised with the 'extra' content I read.

I love cale/krs SO much. He's definitely one of my favorite protagonists ever. I love Choi Han and Alberu and ofc ROAN lil babu roan. Tje side characters are so cute it makes me want to gobble them all up.

There's... more>> no romance at all in this book, cale (so far) has had no love interest.
Spoiler

The closest relationships he has are with Choi han and Alberu and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with either of them in the future because they care about each other a LOT lot.

[collapse]

There's a lot of teetee so it was really sweet to read.

There's a lot of plot actually and that's what kept me reading most of the time. There's a few times where it felt a bit slow but those times were minimal so yea...

The 700 or so chapters were very nice to read through, I never got sick of the length because it felt like no time had passed at all.

Now I'm left to wait for part 2 to come out.

I already miss everybody.

Also also the translation is really really nice, almost little to none grammatical mistakes. The only gripe that I had with it were the translator's notes because they would kinda break the immersion because they would be smack dab in the middle of a paragraph.

All in all I love this novel and it's great so you should definitely read it. <<less

Those with low reviews obviously haven't read far enough. This novel was one of my first few reads on transmigration/reincarnation. My thirst made me read up to 700 plus chapters because every arc showed development, and the further I read the more excited I got. The characters, the setting, and the whole plot is connected. Everything had their foundation. It was not "just because", there was purpose on the details I didn't even knew were important.

I only temporarily stopped reading because I was done with cliffhangers. I'm still patiently waiting... more>> for the updates. <<less

An absolute banger of a novel.

The main selling point of this novel imo is the emotion it generates when you read it. When I read the first major battle, I literally almost cried despite nobody dying. It's just that epic.

The characters are so well built that it's literally impossible to find fault in them. You can understand every and each characters actions and why they are doing certain things.

... more>> The protagonist is a badass and nobody can say no to this.

The world building is also really good, with cool powers and an epic history behind what we can see.

This novel doesn't have any romance, but that's what made it what it is currently. Simply friendship and bromance.

The single bad point about this novel is it's length. It is so f*cking long it can take you two weeks to binge it. And once you took a break from it, you'll probably forget half the stuff you've read about since the characters and world building is so damn complex. <<less

Writing this at the latest update... and holy shit.

It's everything the sad*st reader wants: a likable sorta tsundere MC with a platonic harem, plot lines you thought would be loose only to be tied up, and characters teetering on the edge of crazy. I like my books without romance, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for other forms of love. Everyone thinks of each other as family and they're crazily OP on their own. It's good for readers who don't really wanna go through all the training arc stuff... more>> and just wanna get into the fights.

Cale doesn't fight of course. He's lazy and there's literally no time when he's in the middle of a war (although it could be said that the two-year time skip was more than enough time). And besides, training for him would be useless. He's the sort of charismatic dude that just charms you right away even if you know he's morally gray at best. The other characters pull their weight too, and you can see the affection everyone has for each other, perfect for those lonely little souls like me.

PROS:

  • Author never forgets a plot line. If it was mentioned in the first ten chapters then it's probably gonna get resolved in the next hundred. Or hell, a small detail that you could've easily missed plays a big part in the later arcs.
  • Cale knows how to make good use of his resources and doesn't do the 'justice' way. He's not above playing dirty.
  • TONS of misunderstandings. Fun ones. Like how everyone thinks Cale's slacker life monologues are BS.
  • Platonic family. Cale is a father and has like what... four other dads. Everyone holds him in high regard but that doesn't mean they don't know how he plays.
  • SELF-SACRIFICAL MC. All hail these types of characters, never fails to make me giddy. People getting worried while he's ever so oblivious to their growing paranoia makes me :))
CONS:

  • The author's writing style leaves much to be desired. Even the translators are complaining about it. They tend to repeat words and the same information again and again. Probably trying to reach character minimum.
  • It's kind of annoying how the author tries to explain everything to the audience instead of letting them figure it out themselves. I mean for foreshadowing they're great, but when it comes to narrative, they've obviously never heard of 'show not tell'.
  • TONS OF PLOT LINES. So much that to the average reader you're probably not going to grasp it at first. I'm on the slower side so most of the details went over my head... heh.
  • There are not many failures going on here. The side characters have good character arcs that promote their character growth... but Cale doesn't have much going on for him. Not saying that he doesn't have ANY, because he certainly has some emotional growth, but it's not much compared to the rest. That being said, Cale has been badass from chapter one.
OVERALL: 4.2

It's great, really, but you've gotta put in mind the fact that the person writing this review enjoys hot men and — even better — bleeding ones. The writing style is definitely a bit sore to the eye, but hey, anything for Caleism. <<less

I love this series with my whole heart as it is my comfort novel! The whole set is honestly heart-warming and I love found family trope especially. I also find it relaxing that there's no romance, because it fully focuses on friendship beetween the chatacters and the plot. Speaking about the plot, there is always something going on which I absolutely adore and I am amazed by how everything actually connects and makes sense. I love how everything is explained and so well-thought. I recommend it to everyone

The MC has no personality and goes to collect powerup after powerup.

He never feels any stronger tho, not that it would have mattered since his dragon alone is able to take out any tension, that might have occured.

Love the fact that I can happily read this, which has all the elements I like such as fantasy, shounen, friendship, heart warming, action, mystery, no harem, and my lil raon ^3^

And the fact that MC is a strategist who is always one step ahead of the others in battle of wits and the adventures they do together is what makes it so interesting

and romance is not a necessity for me so.. I can pleasantly read this without any green tea b*tches disturbing my mood

I TOTALLY LOVE THIS!♡

When I first saw this is when it releases as manhwa. Because it pique my interest and I don't really want to wait for too long, I started to read the novel.

I was shocked by my discovery. When I started reading this I can't seem to stop myself from reading more and more. I like the genre, the characters, I meaaaan I love all of them.

Our MC looks weak because of his body and ofcourse there's our companions that always look after him. I mostly adore the... more>> interaction of Raon and Cale. And I love how they smack their enemies on their back. It's quite fun when the children's mimicking cale or they pick out his trait, like when he smile like scammer or something~

It leave me thinking what would happen next or sometimes I will be shocked because that just appear out of nowhere, like you don't know that he have more trick out of his sleeves or something like that.

Spoiler

Like when he use his ability 'instant'. It help him destroy the 2 statues of monsters cause he's like a beam of light that reach that side at second. However this will cause him to ripped his whole body, in that time he really bled a lot and fainted cause he overhausted himself. It was so sad, Raon was crying and Alberu and Choi Han witness some of it. It made me almost cry as well.

[collapse]

It's funny that when people see the MC and express their admiration, he will deny it and turn the spotlight at his comrades. Then the people would think that he's such a modest person and burst their fighting spirit or be emotional over it, while he was proud that this will remove the spotlight on his own.

Spoiler

For now Cale Henituse our MC who is originally Kim Rok Soo meets the real Cale that now is leaving as Kim Rok Soo. In simply terms they replace each others place. And they are fighting the unranked monster, they already took down the electric eel and now Cale let Eruhaben-nim to act like he fell unconcious as a start of their plan. Cale's mother is an ancient power holder and she buried the part of her power in the Harris Village. Our MC will head to the tomb where Cale's mother was buried to find that ancient power.

[collapse]

For me this is one of the best novels that I've read maybe it is the one in this genre. I saw some people think it's a bit lacking because it doesn't have romance, well I think this is good as it is.

Honestly I don't have any much say to it cause it seems like I can't get the word out of my mouth, but I assure you this is a great novel. Maybe not for some but I hope most people will like it. ٩ (๑˃◡˂๑) ۶

"If we need to make a hole on a cliff, the human being there will make it so that we have to destroy the entire cliff!" Just want to leave it here~ <<less

The Protagonist is dense. He himself doesn't know that the people surrounding him treasures him very much. He says that he's not a good guy but his actions are pretty much acting like one. He's a reckless person in contrast to his brilliant moves. He's pretty much my favorite character in the novel and overall, this novel is amazing in every way.

P.S. Oh and clopeh sekka, I admire your craziness

100/10

I love this book. The character development are nice. There no plot hole (?) well, at least I don't see any. Cale is a very calculative person who love to smack people from the back and every time he did it, it makes me cackle for a literal 10 minutes. I also love how there are no romance. I. Am. Sick. And. Tired. Of. Romance. (just my opinion). I love how everyone just really look up to him and respect him as a (kind, brave, and strong person.) lol. The... more>> thing I like the most about this book is that in every arch, there is always a plot twist and the whole plan just get ruin but in the end, no one dies. I hate it when authors kill their characters just so MC can get stronger but this book, they don't do that. No one dies, happy ending lol. I promise that there are no angst in this book (except like 2 small part that talks about MC past and MC's greatest fear.) Those moment were so emotional... But overall, no angst.

The children are sooooooooooo cute!!!!! I just really want to pinch all of there cheeks ahhhh. The children interaction with each other are so cute, it makes my heart fell so fluffy!! And the piggy banks. So adorable!

Overall, I totally recommended this book. It is totally worth it to binge read 600+ chapter to me. If you actually took my advice and read the book, thank you for reading and have a fun time enjoying Cale smacking and scamming people haha. <<less

This novel is my healthy drug.

For those new readers who have read bad reviews, I really suggest that you read the novel first.

I'm not really good at doing reviews, but for the sake of my love for this novel, I will try my best.

As a reader, I admit that the early chapters of the novel are kinda boring, it also made me dropped the novel for a while after reaching chapter 30, but I'm glad that I pick it up again and persevere in reading, and that's when I figured... more>> out that I've pick up a hidden gem.

The plot is cliche with the transmigration one, however if you read more then you'll realize just how well thought and unique the plot of this novel is. The author, oh my goodness, I really love the author! She is a god of foreshadowing just like what the other reviewer said. The things that you have read in the earlier chapters that you have neglected and think of as nothing actually hold a significant value on the later chapters! The backstory of the MC is something that make the readers anticipate and curious, the author really did a good job at that one, unlike the other novels that dropped the MC's backstory at the start, the author takes their time in revealing Cale's past. Drops of hints would appear as sentences in chapters that will make you really question just what kind of past does the MC have? It's one of the aspects of the novel that I really love, it makes the readers think every kind of scenario just so they could guess what is the MC's backstory. The side characters aren't neglected at all, they have their own character development and you see it on every line on the chapters. Another thing I like is the positivity in the novel and the comedy. They are not forced, they come so naturally while reading, and I guess it is also because of this that the emotions strike deeper when you read the novel. This novel doesn't have romance, however every interactions of the characters, especially when Cale interacts with children, are wholesome. Very wholesome, especially when the little dragon enters. The trust, the camaraderie between the characters are something else. Yes, like other novels they're camaraderie formed due to situations that involve life and death, however...I'm really not sure how to describe it, call it being bias, but the camaraderie in this novel is in another level.

All in all, before you believe those bad reviews that haven't even read at least half of the chapters in the novel, you should first read this novel, because you don't know what you'll miss when if you don't. <<less

So many mysteries that I want to know... MC, no, author-nim and translator-nim please satisfied me. It's an interesting transmigration shounen novel I found so far. The characters are crazy, all of them, but funny. The antagonists have their reasons to be bad, not just 'antagonist role'.

I don't know for other people, but it's enough even though there's no romance. I even think that it will only make it bad for this kind of story.

Though... Actually, I want to read from other characters' views.

Start is good, as every Korean novel it has interesting premise but execution is terrible. First the characters are refreshing, it's different from other power up wuxia/xianxia novels. MC wishes to live happy boring life after he was transmigrated from overworked orphan to one of the richest family in the kingdom. Well... of course that won't happen. MC is extremely lazy. It's his biggest quirk and it works for a while, it's even funny from time to time. But after 100 chapters it became extremely annoying. He just gathers "ancient" powers and overpowered people who becomes his personal bodyguards like pokemons due to his knowledge of the fictional novel "The Birth of the Hero" where he transmigrated. Which was about Choi Nan. He was transmigrated too. Which was interesting premise. But noooo, author made him just a complete lackey to our MC. He can't even think for himself. As other characters. They are all bland as plain oatmeal. After 150 chapters you just want to smack MC for being so lazy and boring. Everything is extremely trivialized due to Black Dragon and later Golden Dragon who acts as another lackey to MC. And around chapter 170 you will just stop reading it. You are just waiting for something to happen. But nothing will happen.

MC is constantly saying "It's not my thing." and "I am not interested in this", but in the end he ends up meddling and solving the problem. It's so redundant.

I can't call this a novel, that would be elevating it too much. No world building, no character design, no backstory, no plot, no consistent powerscaling system. The author just put martial arts, Mana, legacy skills, beast people, mermaids, nobles, some crunchy kingdom structure, dragons, isakai in a big pot and stirred them together. No fighting, no cultivation, no interesting exploring, no slice of life..... I don't see anything worthwhile here. The writing style seems too chopped up for me. The same concept of being reborn in a new world... more>> is done better in every other novel like this i've read - library of heavens path, hssb, hsf. I would rank this in tr*sh tier. Dropped. <<less

no romance in this novel, which is such a shame. The MC just playing around with kids and pets, wtf man.

The novel was entertaining at the beginning but the tropes get rehashed so often that it became stale after a while. Dropped the novel at c120.

Too many misunderstandings and too much tsundere made things too cringey to the point of being unbearable.

I added a point because of Raon. Raon is cute but everybody else, including the MC, is meh.

this is an odd novel. Usually, novels start off with a huge impact and form a great impression. But as the story progresses, things usually fall apart, the plot seems meaningless characters start becoming more and more irritating. But these problems don't seem to occur with this one. At least not yet. At the start, I thought it was another one of those 'I entered a game world so watch me beat shit' kinda novels but it wasn't.
the other route that such novels take is of the behind the curtains mastermind. This one takes this route, but unlike the rest it doesn't go into 10 pages of useless data dump with 15 pages of the emotional rant with another 20 pages of explaining their foolishly simple 'masterplan'. This one is crisp. Maybe the plans and the side-characters aren't the best we have yet but its still enjoyable.
worth the time.
