Su Yu, a descendant of a royal chef, entered a novel of the immortal world. She became a second senior sister who took over a mountain full of wounded and disabled from her missing senior brother.

According to the original plot, her third junior brother’s golden core was broken. Her fourth junior brother gets into trouble. Her fifth junior brother was deceived… In short, they are dead, casualties, or injured.

Su Yu: Ah, this… our division seems to be over.

Looking at a group of skinny, weak, or disabled juniors, Su Yu, who wanted to retire: What kind of immortals are cultivating and fighting? Come and help me cook! Peace is a blessing!

However, when she researched the ingredients in this world of cultivating immortals and decided to make a pot of delicious vegetables… the spiritual energy in the wok was great and the fragrance spread, but there was a faint circle of energy, which turned into super-quality spiritual pill that could repair broken meridians lying on the bottom of the wok.

Su Yu: !

The seriously wounded and waiting to die juniors: !

Master Su didn’t believe in failure. When she was preparing to make a lotus leaf roasted rib, oil dripped and the aroma was overflowing. But at the bottom, there was a faint gleam of light accompanied a two-foot-long spirit sword, unparalleled in sword energy and a rare treasure once in a century.

Junior brother who gave up cultivation because of lack of spirit swords: !

Looking at the pots and pans full of spiritual pills and spiritual treasures piled up in her small kitchen, Su Yu frowned.

You may not believe it, but I just want to make a dish.

The heroine who s**ked her luck but went all the way to decline: ???

Because his cultivation rose too fast, the number one senior brother of Zhiqiong Peak, Xiao Muge, had to go far to the northern glacier to suppress his terrifying cultivation.

A year later, he finally avoided the Ascension Thunder Tribulation and rushed back to his sect, preparing to regain the luck for his juniors, but he almost didn’t recognize his own peak.

His third junior brother with a broken golden core had leveled up into Yuan Ying. His fourth junior, with extremely poor musical talent, had become a complete success… And his second junior sister, who is sullen, cold, and has never been out of her room, is sitting on the throne of the peak leader with her phoenix eyes narrowed. Her red lips raised when she enjoyed her junior’s respectful thanks. “Second Senior Sister is the master of our peak. She has powerful wisdom and is omnipotent. Senior Brother… Who is Senior Brother?”

Xiao Muge: ?

One of the most creative xianxia stories to have ever been written and an enjoyable read from start to finish.

What makes this story stand out from other xianxia stories are the unconventional cultivation practices that are used by the characters. Firstly, the MC cultivates by cooking; however, what she cooks isn't normal food but magical pills, weapons, and formations made of edible ingredients.
Spoiler

For example, the MC might take chicken, spiritual water, and spices to make a chicken soup pill that would help one absorb spiritual energy faster. Sometimes her products look like actual dishes that would be served in a restaurant and sometimes they look like pills, weapons, and formations.

[collapse]
This is basically the story's formula: someone will tell the MC they need a thing that is (insert adjective here) and the MC will cook up a dish that corresponds with (insert adjective here). The MC's thought process will be like oh you need something that will provide a sturdy defence? Hmm clams have hard shells. Why not a clam bases spiritual tool? I don't think I'm describing it very well but trust me, when you're reading the story it'll make a lot more sense.

Outside of the MC, the other characters also cultivate in interesting ways. For example, the MC's fifth junior brother cultivates by making calculations so every time he handles the accounts for the "restaurant" the MC eventually opens, his cultivation advances. Correspondingly, one of his spiritual tools is an abacus. Similarly, his Taoist companion's tool is a chess board. While the MC's master doesn't have an uncommon spiritual tool, he used wind spells to fan the restaurant customers. Even the demons in this story are interesting because they're not just evil for the sake of being evil. They have different purposes and personalities which enrich the conflict in the story.

I should say though that if you're a big fan of romance there's a very light dusting of it between the MC and her senior brother but they don't meet in person until about chapter 80 or 90.
Spoiler

Plus, most of their attraction is only implied until the extras where they do get married and have a baby.

[collapse]
Instead of that you get a lot of focus on the bonds between the MC and the members in her sect and it's super wholesome and cute. Besides the few minor and main big bads everyone else in this text was pretty likeable too. Overall, while this story is similar to Ascending, Do Not Disturb, in that we have a lighthearted and humourous xianxia story helmed by a lucky and likeable MC, I feel that this author's world-building is even more awe inspiring and imaginative because this author isn't limited by any common xianxia logic. Someone wants more than one natal spiritual weapon? Build a box that lets them store eight inside their dantian! The immortal world can't communicate with the mortal world? Build a wifi service! You can literally never guess the author's next move and that makes the story so fun to read.

This could be a great fluff cultivation novel focused on cuisine, relationships, character arcs, etc.

Instead is a nonsense 'comedic' cultivation novel where the Mary Sue MC solves any problem by cooking something, while the solution doesn't come from the food itself but from pure plot armor.

Kid needs a sword? She'll cook wolf meat with a flower and a metallic sword comes out of it which somehow is a third rank magical treasure. A girl lost her magical rope? The strings the MC uses to tie meat are third rank magical... more>> treasures! Just get them and defeat cultivators 1 full realm above her! Is an elder dying from old age? A random plate she made gets to him and extends his life.

Please remember she never intends any of it and it's all by 'chance' or 'coincidence'. She doesn't even knows how to make magical artifacts, but 'just does it' while trying to cook because she's the MC.

It's one of those do-whatever-you-want types of cheat, with no rules or explanations of why or how it works, or the cultivation system, or world building, or character motivations.

The plot formula is: Problem appears, MC makes a 'dish' that may or not be food in the end. The thing she made will solve the problem effortlessly while the people around will be in awe of her awesomeness, commenting about it like a soccer game narrator, while swearing everlasting fealty.

Rinse and repeat with bigger cultivation ranks and recipes until you get bored of it. Mileage will vary between readers.

Don't be deceived by the 5 stars reviews, it's an empty type of novel to shut your brain off and waste time, at best. <<less

It is a lot better than what you might expect, basically a girl who cooks her way through to immortality. Not so OP as she just gets stuff randomly, she just cooks things that are good and makes an effort to do so, like a revised alchemist who cares about taste. What really shines is worldbuilding, which is godly here.

This is so f*cking funny I genuinely had a smile on my face while reading many of the chapters.

The sheer IQ of the writing is brilliant, I can't get enough of how through the power of cooking and sheer ridiculousness, Su Yu and her disciples continue to overturn the understanding of the cultivation world.

Fluffy, warm cultivation novel where the female MC cooks her way to save her xianxia peak/sect/world. The relaxed, positive vibe reminds me of Ascending, Do Not Disturb by Butterly's Shadow Beneath the Moon, but the female MC is cooler, more mature, and there is less romance. Excellent translation.

I love how resourceful the MC is. I love all the different dishes and reading this makes me hungry. But, I’d appreciate more romance. There’s some subtle hints and more obvious in the extras but it’s not nearly enough!!! 😭😭

I haven't gotten very far into the novel yet, but I really like how creative it is. The FL enters the stage, she has to overcome a bad reputation. She starts by doing what she does best, which is cooking. Her recipes end up becoming pills, weapons, tools, etc.

It's too early for me to judge if it's great or not, but I just wanted to share with others that I'm enjoying it so far. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by it.

The novel is basically a gigantic episodic food adventure story. Normally I wouldn’t be that interested in a story where the MC can wave away any issue with her golden spatula finger, but I’m really enjoying this novel. But don't really go into the story looking for romance, cultivation or anything deep. Just enjoy the eccentricity of food translated into cultivation

MTL up to chapter 83, readability 85%.

If you're looking for a fun cooking story whose main character has luck against the heaven, this was a good choice. 😅 She had no qualms about cooking up tasty dishes to get out from ANY predicament, anything could be solved with a delicious meal.

This is a very light, fluffy novel with pretty much no conflict at all, and it’s very comedic. I laughed so much reading this! The only thing is that the MTL is kind of hard to read, but the translater is doing a good job translating, and they are uploading a chapter a day, so if you’re more patient than me, waiting for the translations is a good idea

There are too few cultivation novels with a female lead. This story is super cute. MC is super OP, but it's an interesting and light-hearted novel. As of ch 66, there's no romance.

4 stars: A silly, creative, amusing read that shouldn't be taken too seriously—I mean come on, one mystical technique used by some of the cultivators in this book is pretty much called the Big Mac Burger Defense. Don't come here looking for drama, romance, or character depth. It's a story about a transmigrated chef-foodie girl who, in Pokemon terms, basically rare candies, TMs, and Master Balls her entire peak to the pinnacle of success via her OP elixirs and magical weapons accidentally (at first, and later intentionally) produced by her... more>> cookery. The food descriptions are delicious-sounding and as is typical of cookery novels, there are a lot of them and some get kind of repetitive as does the repeated foodgasming of whoever is lucky enough to eat her food, but eh, it's fine.

The way in which Su Yu translates cooking, recipes, and utensils into weapons and elixirs is gimmicky but also quite creative in that they're not random—they follow a relatively logical theme, like string used to bind meat becoming magical rope weapons capable of binding high-grade opponents, clam shells turning into giant defensive magical barriers, burgers, uh, being multi-layered and therefore producing a multi-layered attack/defense... yeah okay so some of them are kinda out there, but I still found it entertaining. It's also fun to see what dish she's going to repurpose next. Most of them are traditional Chinese cuisine but there are occasional modern and/or non-Chinese curveballs thrown into the mix.

There is sort of vaguely a plot although honestly by chapter 51 I had forgotten that this was a transmigration-into-novel story and that the original MC was still around and having issues because of Su Yu because although it keeps getting brought up in the beginning, it quickly drifts into the background and is barely mentioned after the competition arc begins—and the competition arc is like any other martial arts competition/tournament in any other OP story, where it's all about how the protagonist easily powerlevels through by surprising their opponents, bending rules, or winning on technicalities.

Later on, there is more actual plot stuff that happens involving the "original novel" and a sort-of antagonist, but I actually found it less interesting to the point I'd skim just to see what crazy thing Su Yu was going to cook up next. Fortunately, she's always cooking up something new, so I never had to skim far. I guess there had to be a plot of some kind tucked in there somewhere and it does the job—in that the plot is merely framework to let Su Yu cook up super weapons, exotic transportation, and powerful (and delicious) elixirs. The "original novel" stuff ended up being less of a focus and was dealt with maybe halfway through the novel or so, with the rest focusing more on Su Yu and her foodie ambitions and some more world-building, along with a few twists and turns, though as usual, plot takes a backseat to food when not being on a par with it, which ain't a bad thing for this novel.

The extras were a mix of immediate epilogue, sort-of-side-stories or vignettes that didn't really go anywhere, prequel, and epilogue-epilogue, and please note that the only actual "romance" in the entire novel is pretty much solely contained in the epilogues and there's not much of it and it's just as silly as the rest of the novel which again, ain't a bad thing.

I read this in chunks as a palate cleanser between other novels or when I needed something mindlessly entertaining to breeze through. It's perfect for that, as reading it in one sitting or for longer times might have gotten boring. It took a few chapters for me to decide if I was going to keep reading though, as initially the story came off as weird and a little annoying how everything went so accidentally perfectly for Su Yu, but then I managed to adjust my mindset and just enjoy how ridiculous it was and how Su Yu was equally bemused at first but quickly found her footing and began cooking with intention and treating leading a peak of cultivators like running a kitchen while also shouldering responsibility for her peak because, after all, a head chef takes care of her undercooks! <<less

The premise of the story is pretty good, and don't get me wrong, I am the first to zoom towards any cooking novel.

However,

I feel that the majority of the author's attempt at humor is completely lost in the translation.

I appreciate the translator's efforts, but it reads extremely clunky, a bit too much like MTL or just very limited grasp of grammar and vocabulary. If I weren't so busy, I would really consider giving this novel a try in the OG Chinese, just to see if it's the original author's... more>> writing that's lacking or the translation I suspect.

And like other readers have mentioned, the MC is straight up the most OP existence to exist. There's no challenges to speak up, everything is resolved very quickly. Which makes for a pretty boring and basic read.

That said, I haven't been able to recommend this to any of my friends even though I was really excited by the premise and reviews. <<less

Through and through purely for giggles kind of novel. Amusing, tantalizing, and a wholesome story (no romance but has a ML/purely romantic subplot).

A bit stretched and lacking in depth I guess, even with a proper plotline.
Too monotone and one-dimensional. Ironic for a story about food lacking in additional flavors.
The main focus was certainly the dishes/creations of MC and the people she was serving it up to, less than on herself.
The extras make up for that, but it should've been better incorporated into the main story IMO.

It's a drool worthy story that has a great female MC with an enjoyable journey though sprinkled with repetitiveness and mary sue vibes sometimes.

Once I was near chapter 80-90 it started to become repetitive due to the formulaic arcs that kept repeating.

the cycle is basically MC has a problem, MC makes food, it wows people and now MC is cool. It worked before after the human realm arc has ended but once it got to the demon realm arc, it felt like it's repeating the same formula but I've seen... more>> it 80 chapters ago and there's really not that many new things to add a twist to the story.

Though the story therein on has given MC more power development, it doesn't truly feel like she's leveling up her skills and power as a cultivator even with her power of cooking, it feels as though as she's reached the ceiling in power and can't go up anymore and that lack of power has made her stay in this awkward lane of almost at the end of the story but she's reached her limits.

Tldr : story is nice with amazing foods that makes you drool but there's minor setbacks here and there, if you're fine with slight repetition in story and mary sue-ish MC with wafts of romance, this will be a good story to read through. <<less

It's hilarious, exciting, and doesn't create so much tension that you can't enjoy what's going on. Don't read this expecting a nail biter, but more like prepare for an ab workout and a sore face from smiling too much.

My thought after reading ch 7:

I'll say this first as a review because it's really pissed me off

The original female lead is a white lotus b*tch. She used mc's as her anchor luck and steal her luck and everyone around her

... more>> Hate that b*tch

There will be so many misfortune in the future because of that. How dare she (the OG FL) said that it can't be helped! This dmn bit*h justify her bad deed and thought she is a saint

Thankfully, mc's powerful dish and cooking skill may safe them

My thought after reading the last chapter

This novel is really light. It's like ascending do not disturb but more lacking in romance. The novel focus more in the relationship between MC and her fellow disciple

This is too light and the conflict almost non exist. Only some annoying villain and white lotus, and then they sre gone. But the world building is actually really good but the story is not that good. MC is too mary sue and too blessed by the author. All her problem can be solved by randomly cooking. She didn't even need to study her ingredients or look for a cooking book or something

If you have nothing to read and too much free time, then you can try to read it

4/5 <<less

very light and fun novel full of food to make you drool every page. Not a novel about serious cultivation. The MC is absurdly powerful through the use of ingredients. Don't expect set backs or pondering about life or the dao; just sit back and enjoy it for what it is.
