Kazama-kun’s Lies is Exposed to the Girls

My name is Sota Kazama. I’m an ordinary second-year high school student.
But I got into an accident. Believe it or not, there are mysterious phenomena.
I had a five-month body swap with Renya Todo, the coolest guy in the class.

He wanted to die for switching bodies with me and became shut-in at home. I wanted to stay at home too, but I had no choice but to do my best due to my surrounding.

I thought about what would happen when I could return to my normal life, and I tried my best to maintain the status quo and not be found out.
It was really hard for me to pretend to be a cheerful person.

The most difficult thing was to keep the relationship with his girlfriend, Otsuka Karen, as it was.
Ultimately, we managed to get back to each other’s bodies without anyone finding out that we had been switched.

Wait, what’s wrong?

No way they’d know….right?

A small warning for those that want to dive into this RomCom

Spoiler

It has this really questionable and weird japanese RomCom trope where the MC is getting abused by the female members of his family. It is portrayed as comedy and might or might not have something to do with the previous body swapping thing (the mtl is a little rough with that chapter and my japanese isn´t good enough yet to read without it) but it honestly doesn´t matter since I personally find this trope very disgusting. Twice as much as it was portrayed to be funny for said members of the family themselves.

It is not.

Not at all.

The MC beeing physically and psychologically abused by members of his own family in their shared home is just terrible if you ask me.

That´s also the reason why I will drop the novel.

[collapse]

I will not rate it as I did not read the whole thing and do not plan to. This is only supposed to be a small warning because I know there are others out there who dislike this trope just as much as I do but if this doesn´t bother you then feel free to give this novel a chance, the translator does a fantastic job despite it having a ton of really difficult word plays. <<less

You know a fast food that you actually hate but still going there anyway because you can't stop eating it? That is basically how I think about this story.

After binging through 10+ tr*sh WNs this is actually a pretty decent rom-com.

I like the fact that the girls actually have a justified reason to chase MC, which is something even CNs fail to do.

The Characters also have their own personality and don't feel plain at all. I can see this as a manga adaptation one day.

However, I don't like the Main Heroine herself. I can only say what the heck?

Spoiler

All I get is that she's beautiful, controlling, and shows off her underwear to tease MC.

I usually like these types of MCs sometimes depending on the story, but in this case, his personality doesn't help and he's always on her finger. (forgot how the saying goes)

[collapse]

The best girl is not chosen... So I just decided to drop it. Even so, I hope Translator can continue this for those who like it. The google translation is off in many ways when it comes to Japanese. <<less

This novel is a case of an interesting premise that is bogged down by weak writing and terrible (non-existent) character development. The whole plot hinges on the fact that the two characters had swapped bodies for several months, but there is no real driving reason why the main character has to avoid everyone he had met during the swap.

For example, it would've been interesting if Karen was conflicted on choosing between Sota or Todo, but it's very clear from the start that Todo was never meant to be anything more... more>> than a plot device to emphasize how much "better" Sota is. Todo didn't do anything interesting in Sota's body either, so there's nothing that could be worked on that end.

In the end, we're just left with terrible, repetitive scenes where the girls keep hounding Sota, and Sota barely has any legitimate excuses to avoid them. <<less

Concept is good but the writing is awful.

The author is just sh*t at writing a story in general.

The MC constantly talks about he cant get close to the girls but does not give reasons. Just that it is some truth which... is dumb. He says that the girls like the other dude and not him dispite the repeated times they just outright say they liked HIM and that the other guy isnt HIM anymore when they switched back.

The names are confusing (Karen, Kanna, Kana) and there is no real explanation... more>> on what he actually did as the other guy so his relationships just feel forced.

Im still reading since like I said the concept is good and compared to other novels it isnt actually too bad, but this MC is braindead. <<less

concept of story is really interesting but after the start author make it become typical romcom and MC become typical dense piece of shi* MC that you can find in many romcom novel and manga

I read around 40 chapter at first I though it start to introduce story and character but nothing more than that
This MC run away from everything and why he need to run away I don't know it just like other romcom MC he start to run around with the girls but do nothing
why he... more>> need to denial so hard about he transfer body I won't see any bad to explain this to other (atleast his childhood friend will believe for sure)

It's really frustrating when he tried so hard to avoid every girls he encounter it's not fun to read and I don't know reason why this MC need to do that

I dropped this sh*t I hope it become better <<less

Interesting premise with an absolute dog water of an MC.

For someone who's supposed to be "socially competent" from spending months inside another dude's body, he has no spine whatsoever and runs away from every single confrontation with the girls. The entire cycle of every chapter is, "problem gets presented, MC is given the opportunity to confront it, but he runs away instead". This has been going on for 46 chapters straight and is extremely frustrating to read.

He runs away from Kanna, he runs away from Karen, he runs away from... more>> Sayaka, he runs away from Hirose, he runs away from everybody. There's not a single time in the 46 chapters that I've read where he confronts or even talks to one of the girls properly.

I would give it a 0/10 if I could but the premise was legitimately interesting so I gave it a 2 instead. <<less

I dont like how the MC is acting like a wuss, always at the denial making him feel and look like a f*cking p**sy. Almost all of the chapter are filled of 'how' and 'what to' to make sure they doesn't know about the swapping incident. I dont like it, this novel is less romcom but more on useless denials

Okay, still interesting. Was hyped at first, but now stale.

The problem with this is that the chapters are way too short to the point it's hurting the story. There is no flow from one chapter to another. It jumps around that the next chapter has nothing to do with the previous chapter. There is not enough development. For example,

Spoiler

One chapter is a POV chapter. Next, it's about MC reading a manuscript about his experiences as scumbag bf from suspecting heroine and MC is suspiciously confused about it. Then, it's morning time with his sisters.

Seriously, there's sometimes no point to certain chapters since they don't add much to the story. It can't even be a slice of life if the slice is infuriatingly thin!

[collapse]

Don't they teach you about rising action when learning about storytelling? The rising action here is a seismograph.

I still want to read it since I do want to see when the heroines finally do expose MC.

If you plan on reading, do be aware the short lengths of the chapters.

Old CH 5 Review
Spoiler

So far it's interesting. There isn't much yet, but I look forward to the rest. Downside is chapters are short which is sadly typical today.

If you're interested in a sneak peek of the first five short chapters:

MC is back from the body swap with a seemingly popular classmate with a bad attitude.

Right now, only two of the girls that MC interacted with during body swap are suspicious of MC because of MC's habits remained unchanged even during body swap and popular dude return back to his original personality (remember popular dude is a douche).

It's probably best to wait for more chapters for the best reading experience. Otherwise, if you're prepared to starve yourself to wanting more, go ahead.

TLDR: Story is interesting and semi-fresh, translation is a bit jarring, but mostly grammatically correct - he/she seems to translate very literally leading to shorter sentences.

The story is interesting. It’s kind of like 君の名前は type body switch.

The synopsis is kind of lacking. What has happened is that the main character switched bodies with the popular kid and did his best to impersonate him. Now, if you had no depth of knowledge of someones character, you’d assume that they’re a decent person. So he operates on those assumptions for the 5... more>> months he’s switched. As their personalities are so different, he puts on a facade of who he believes the popular guy to be; people get used to that persona.

Spoiler

the popular guy is a scumbag and his perception of him was wrong so his acting was quite jarring and people took notice

[collapse]

After they switched back, he took a bunch of the quirks that he had used back to his original body - personal toiletry choices, cosmetics, and hobbies he developed.

I think the translator might have English as their second language or is a student. Their translation is good but can be jarring at times as their style involves consistently using short sentences that get a bit hard to read. <<less

Other reviews here have the basic story beats down: ML and 2ML swap bodies for unknown reasons for several months. 2ML in ML's body goes full hikkikomori for that time, while the ML in the 2ML's body does his best to maintain the 2ML's social standing and personal relationships until they can switch back, ... more>>
Spoiler

ML does this way too well, becoming an inspirational figure at school and among his peers while repairing the moribund relationship with the 2ML's girlfriend to the point where she's not only head-over-heels for the guy but is eager to move the relationship forward many, many levels.

[collapse]

The story actually starts just after the return switch occurs and both are trying to figure out where they stand. Our ML is a little pleased by his new appearance but is fine keeping a distance from the 2ML's life
Spoiler

and not just because the other guy is threatening to tell everyone the truth if he doesn't.

[collapse]

2ML, though, having not been humbled even a little by the experience, immediately refers to his old ways and, finding himself viewed so much more favorably than before, seeks to exploit this favorability in every crass and vulgar way you'd imagine. This also goes as well as you'd imagine.
Spoiler

His girlfriend breaks up with him in a humiliating public spectacle, other girls to whom the ML has grown close while he was there are appalled by the new-old persona, and his newly-minted reputation as a strong but gentle leader vanishes quickly to be replaced with a quick and violent temper.

[collapse]

Meanwhile, the ML, though trying to go back to his old life, soon finds that the changes to his personality he developed to keep up appearances in the new body won't let him do that; the newfound strength and confidence are permanent... and very obvious.
Spoiler

Especially to the girls to whom he'd become close, who rapidly recognize, despite how insane it seems, that the guy in the 2ML's body they'd become so close to themselves is, somehow, now in the ML's.

[collapse]

The story from here is mostly about readjusting, with a fair bit of pontificating on what actually makes a person a person as
Spoiler

2ML spends a good chunk of the story denying that he's the guy the 2ML's girl fell for, rationalizing that, sure, it was his personality but it was the other guy's body and that particular combination doesn't exist anymore.

[collapse]

It's a fun read, surprisingly thought-provoking at times, and sometimes just plain silly fun.
Spoiler

Just ignore the implied reverse-r*pe near the end of the hiatus point.

Real rating to be at 3.8-4

No Update for months seems dropped can understand why..👌

MC has no confidence in himself and can ignore all the advance of Heroines by getting himself into his own " little world "

The plot is basically finished as author-nim gives too much institution to the Heroines at the later stages its all about competing for MC which is straight up bland.

The MC is an example of the worst kind of JP MC that is sometimes common in this genre, what with him being a total coward with a spine made of wet toilet paper. He will run from every encounter or conversation, or if he can't run away, he will just stutter all the time, without even managing to say what he wants.

Of course, every hot girl in this school finds that extremely attractive, so they will literally fight over him.

Avoid this tr*sh

Good concept, kinda bad execution. Dense MC, predictable storyline, dialogue is a tad cringe, most characters kinda like cardboard cutouts, especially the popular guy MC swapped bodies with.

Sorta wish there was more going on with the story than just, all the heroines chasing after MC, MC running away from them, and the popular guy being a ret*rded creep. Also, very unrealistic/contrived scenarios, but it's a jp romcom novel so who cares.

Do I recommend reading this? Eh probably not.

So this isn't really a review, but I'll say that it's on the better side of romcom WNs. My only real problem is that the girls are actually extremely annoying.... more>>

Karen is ridiculously f*cking obsessive, Sayaka doesn't appear to be much better, and Erika is Erika. Erika's honestly not that bad. Kanna needs more appearances as she's the only one that doesn't bore the f*ck out of me. KANNA SUPREMACY~~~I L❤️V KANNAAAA~~~~

I just want them to f*ck off tbh. I'm only caught up to the translation so I can't judge the novel as a whole, but it's definitely worth a shot. <<less

Pretty good so far but the chapters are so short that it took me half an hour to catch up (chapter 30) which is like a minute a chapter. And the translation's pretty iffy but not too bad. I'm gonna have to shelve it since I'm not interested in keeping up whenever a chapter drops... cause they're so damn short. But overall it's a nice refreshing concept with an acceptable execution.

This story has a lot of potential but it's still in its setting up phase with introducing all the characters and relationships.

There's a big plot hole/question that I have that may be answered later but for some reason the MC and the person he swapped places with never talk to or confront each other and immediately both go back to "normal" when they are swapped back. I also wish the time and reactions being initially swapped had more screentime as the starting point of the story is a bit jarring... more>> and awkward with the characterization of the MC.

Chapters are really short so it feels like it will take awhile but at least the TL release rate has been pretty quick so far.

I'd recommend letting more chapters build up before starting it since it feels like we're still in the preparatory phase of the novel. I'm definitely interested to see where this story goes.

EDIT: After reading a bit more the execution is sorely lacking and a disappointment compared to how interesting the premise could've been.
