Once she woke up, Gu Xuejiao became the arrogant and willful stepsister of the book’s male lead. Her specialty resided in breaking the relationship between the male and female lead… she is the nth female character.

Gu Xuejiao thought about this character´s ending. A desolate, abhorrent annihilation… and decided it’s better to continue to practice the Wu San workbooks she just finished in her last life.

The Cheng family watched in alarm:

The girl who was rebellious, and only served to let others worry; asked with a simple expression:

“Do you think it’s better for me to apply to Tsinghua University or Beijing University?”

Cheng family: ….

About the protagonist: she was preparing for the university entrance exam when she died and had completed the study guide, an orphan and diligent. When she enters the protagonist's body, she only has the advantage of having studied longer and knowing the story. As she knows the story for me it is still a mystery the girl only studied and did not have much time. [If anyone has a story about a transmitter who doesn't know the plot, recommend me]

The protagonist's mother disappointed me, I have a great relationship with... more>> my mother and seeing how the character suffers from the mother's lack of trust and support, I was sad.

The cousin and the half-sister are two peas in the pot, two faces, white lotus, green tea, they behave like innocent, polite and sensitive when they are cheering and wishing that the protagonist falls at the end of the well. Although the half sister has not acted, her dismay is still visible, she seems a little smarter and more manipulative than her cousin.

The male leader, Lin Zhihua, is an ice king hehehe
Spoiler

apparently infertile

[collapse]
the interaction between the two is fantastic. He looks like a passionate boy showing off to the girl he likes in front of her and to the others he is totally indifferent, it is not me who assumed this is the actor himself who says hahaha

The protagonist's tablemate, I thought of the opening chapters he would imply with her... one tear was enough for him to become her friend, maybe he will be a rival to the almighty Lin.. hehe we will see.

The stepfather is a good man and has been very fair so far. He has a sincere affection for the female protagonist. He criticized his wife when she made a mistake and encourages the girl when she needs it.

The half brother, is a little complicated, in the story of the book, he is the love interest among the female characters. So the (original) half sister likes him, and the half sister's half sister is who he likes. He criticizes the protagonist for hurting her mother, but isn't he doing the same thing when he falls in love with the daughter of his mother's ex-husband's lover?

I am waiting for when the synopsis scene happens. Seeing her dedication to study almost made me want to study too. <<less

It's not all about fluff and love, it also talks the importance of pursuing what you love and your dream.

the original FL was a bad daughter and when the FL was transmigrated she decided to study hard and excell more than what she is in her past life.

This story also talks about what students feel when they are pressured from their friends or family, and that the trusts from our parents is a big thing for us. FL's mother doesn't trust her at first and that affected their relationship.

FL knows... more>> what she wants and she'll definitely pursue it.

I'm suddenly thankful that the college examination in our country is not that hard and thankful that I can go home before the moon shows HAHHAHAHAHA <<less

THIS. IS. GEM!!!!!

it tell us so many life lessons, about love, family, friendship, hard work, dreams and so many others.

1. Lin Zhihua (ML) is probably the best ML througout the Light novels. He's not overbearing, nor imposing his thoughts. He will help analyze the situation, then laid all possibilities, then in the end he lets her choose while he protects her.

... more>> Like one of his lines; that love isn't indoctrination, she's Gu Xuejiao, not second Lin Zhihua

2. Gu Xuejiao (FL), MANNNN SHE'S WISEEE AND HARDWORKING, really, this story probably one of a kind that makes you want to stop reading this novel and start studying. Her monologue is so relatable, makes us question and ponder about our views about life.

She knows that she's born as an ordinary, but refuse to be so.

3. Side stories (such as Jiaxue, Shulan) is so heart wrenching. Thumbs up to how many tissues I used!!

All right, all I can say- TRY READ IT!! 100/10 <<less

In the starting I felt it was very chidlish and extremely cliche but entertaining nevertheless. Later I realized it was full of life lessons and very encouraging.

The ml's love was so unique and enviable and the FL was someone u can look up, she was full of sincerity. The ending really made me wish they would meet again in thier next life.

I like this novel! At the time of my reading, there were only 71 chapters translated. But I was so curious about the story that I went ahead and MTL'd the whole thing (Oh, the struggle of inconsistent pronouns that comes with MTL'd Chinese novels)

This is a romance/life story of a young girl who transmigrated into a story as a "villainess." She died in her world before achieving her dream of taking the university entrance exam (not very relatable to me but she has good reasoning). Upon migrating to... more>> this story, unlike other transmigration stories where the story develops according to the original storyline, the FL decided that since she's been given another chance to live again, she will take advantage of it to achieve the dream she had in her past life. I find the FL very admirable. She is determined and hard-working. She is already very smart, but no god-like abilities. She puts in a lot of efforts and as a reader, I can't help but cheer her on. Because she's very studious and into academics, the large part of the novel is about that.

Her romance is very satisfying
Spoiler

especially towards the end since this story followed the couple's life until they both died

[collapse]

The novel wasn't just about the romance, but it was also about family relationships and realizing dreams.
I would recommend it! It's not my most favorite transmigration novel (maybe due to the MTL'ing) but certainly the most satisfying ending recently!

Expect:

- wholesome love story, family relationships, broken family mending itself, friendships, puppy love, lots and lots of academic talks (college preps, etc)

Don't expect a lot of white lotus face-slapping. (There were some but not a lot, considering the length of the novel)

I enjoyed quite a lot this one, I must say is a very realistic novel in some aspects.

the ML may be one of those op CEOs, but the it's explained his fragility too, what has he passed to stand where he is at the moment, while he didn't have problems whit materialistic stuff, he passed most of his life alone, he's a very lonely person and the author let us see it, which I didn't see in any of the novels I've read till this day, at least not the... more>> away that show that loneliness is a PROBLEM, I just read ones that place it as a normal thing ??

the ML is a person centred in her studies, she pass the whole day studying and working hard to accomplish her dreams, she also has her own problems of course, plus the consequences of the original owner, it all comes back

there's also about the pressure of school, self depreciation, lonelitude, tragical accidents, etc.

love took the backseat for more than half of the novel tho <<less

Spoiler

Yi Tianyu tried and failed to confess properly. In many ways he was a great friend, especially when she had no one that trusted and supported her. In the end though, he was willing to cast aside his dreams to be closer to her, and she was unwilling to have that burden placed upon her

[collapse]

All in all, I have really enjoyed it so far. Usually I would find the age difference a turn off, but I think the fact she is actually 2 years older and has been through a lot in her previous life somewhat mitigates that, by the time she finishes High School she is mentally 20, and is 18 already at the start of her new life.

Also the ML is very desirable, writing that from a male reader perspective. He is a bit (or a lot) of a Mary Sue, but he has his flaws, and he is incredibly considerate. I think its his consideration towards FL that allows me to not be turned off despite the age difference, as well as the aforementioned transmigration.

If he was as domineering as so many other MLs are, I think I would be turned off, but instead...

Spoiler

but instead he is passively domineering, as a ridiculously Overpowered Character, so without actively flexing he still shines so brightly

I'm not a big fan of transmigration stories but I picked this story up because I thought the title was funny. This is surprisingly better than I expected. The first half of the story showcases depth and reflects what a lot of kids, especially Asian kids, experience - the pressure from their studies and parental expectations, and the parents dismissing their feelings for the sake of politeness and appearances and disregarding their opinions and wants for "their own good."

Romance-wise, I was lowkey rooting for the second lead although I kinda... more>> understand why she refused him when he confessed. I also feel that there was an intent to include the original ML in the romance but the author changed their mind midway. I'm curious how it would have panned out if the author proceeded with that.

On the other hand, it was hard to look the other way from the blatant grooming portrayed in the story. Don't get me wrong, I like how he doted on her and supported her all throughout. Who wouldn't want a handsome and powerful guy to do that for you? However, he purposefully got close to her when she was a minor in order to be with her later on. That is grooming. Aside from that, I feel that his indifference towards his (admittedly annoying busybody) parents was a little bit extreme. <<less

This was good. My only complaint is that ML fell in love while FL was under age. He does a decent job of not grooming her, but that doesn't mean it's not creepy.

i agree with another commenter, there was no grooming. I can't believe some people would comment and state it like its fact. Do you even know what it means? Read the story, read it with an open mindset and find the jewel hidden on the story, it's not hard. And maybe afterwards you will see there no such thing as grooming at all.

MC is hardworking and male lead was your typical boss type. She's younger than him but has a clear goal. It actually showcases some real life things that... more>> people at that age could relate to. Up to chapter 432:

This is a slow-burn romance story because it has slow turtle MC in it.

People hesitant about grooming and whatnot, have nothing to worry cuz this girl is very independent and can even ignore ML and forget about him while doing her things. Plus, he does wait until she's of age to give a closer step, before that he is only someone that's constantly making himself useful to her and it's not like he confesses it right away once she hits 18 either

Spoiler

actually he only confessed cuz she found out he had feelings for her from someone else and so she asked him and he obviously wouldn't lie to her about that

[collapse]

What got me annoyed was SML actually. He is immature, mostly only think about his perspective of things. He is pushy, always following and sticking to her in every situation. Plus, he stays in the novel for so long, it annoyed me to no end, especially cuz

Spoiler

I KNEW he was gonna end up with the whole "you are heartless" as if she owed him anything and just because she doesn't do what he wants, she has no heart. I could see that attitude coming from miles away

[collapse]

I'll be honest, c432 and if you are here for mutual romance, I don't know if this is the place.

Now if you want to read about mostly an one sided love of a man who respects, waits, and does he utmost best to never let her miss anything she ought to have, then this is good, but honestly, what I've found more interesting about this novel it's the different kind of relationships it describes, familiar or romantic, using side characters our MC cares for or has to deal with.

Coming back to the ML, he is a stalker, a very smart and emotional perceptive person which helps him to understand and predict behaviours others will have which he uses a lot to help her navigate her difficult relationships in life, he is first and foremost her confidant after all.

MC puts her own life and goals in the forefront, and ML until now follows that as for him she is what mathematics is for her, so he is kind on the back runner really for now. <<less

totally normal plot with a study-obsessed FL and an FL-obsessed ML. There is a LOT of internal dialogue and descriptions that could have been avoided. There is nothing out of the norm besides the age gap that, for me, makes a lot of noise when reading it.

I just honestly jumped straight to the end of the story from chapter 250, it was just.. Study, study, study. I could take it no more. Best characters: stepdad and deskmate.

Writing/Translation: 4/5

The translation I read is from Boba Tea Translation. It is above average. There were some sentences that confused positive and negative connotations but I think it's because Chinese is like that and doesn't quite translate to English that way. A few sentences were a bit awkward. But overall, nice. I love that it's completed too.

... more>> Pacing: 3.9/5

Pacing seems fine. I just found the last bits too quick and summarizing compared to the rest. But this is normal for CN novels so.

Plot: 4/5

I concur with everything all the other reviewers said. The story is a bit more josei and has a bit more substance than normal. I also like that there are actual details in all the studying and knowledge of what is being studied. Other similar stories just say they studied hard and then aced the tests, and that's it. I highly doubt anything technical being shown is all that accurate though lol. Also, I couldn't understand anything she was researching at the end. But at least the author tried. And I prefer something rather than nothing.

I do prefer the parts with all the character development and where the ML's advice was needed. That was way more interesting than when she just researched stuff and the romance at the end.

Romance: 3.3/5

The romance is kinda meh. I loved when the ML was acting as a mentor but I just couldn't get into the romantic relationship. For one, 80% of the time, the MC was just too young emotionally and experience-wise. The dynamic was too skewed. This just made it super hard to understand why the ML fell in love with her. It doesn't help that the author didn't really make the ML all that charismatic or likeable. I also didn't feel any chemistry between the two. It totally felt one-sided.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5

The setting was a bit more detailed than other similar school-type stories.

Characters: 4.3/5

There were some good characters here! The mom has such character growth, the stepdad is cool, the various friends have some screen time and stuff. Nice.

Personal Enjoyment: 3.7/5

I FOUND A HIDDEN GEM!

This story really brings you back to youth. Literally I cried during some relatable moments (like how sometimes even tho parents are your dearest people but they could also be the sharpest knife. Another scenario is where how accident and death can happened anytime etcetc) Tbh I learned alot from characters in this novel. Enjoyable and fun read. 4.2
It sure has it's flaws but it's definitely as bad as others have put it.
ML never got s*xual or tried to condition MC into anything or in any way or form; not before she was underage, not after; neither before they were together, nor after they got together.

The story is cliché but has a hint of its own flavors to stand out from the rest. Though it dropped off towards the end (back towards extreme clichés and tropes), I must say.
Spoiler

The romance was super awkward. MC seemed to be uncharastically hyper shy and dodging the ML. He came on a bit strong. Not sure if the author was aware how bad it was making him look after all the time his established character was a patient, loving gentleman. The dramatics that it took for MC to finally confess her feelings was way too extra.

[collapse]
All of the characters are well written.
Though MC and ML both fall under the same type of cookie-cutter protagonists, MC unlike most transmigrators, doesn't come with anything special aside from the passionate pursuit of academic learning and a slightly more mental matureness. (No beauty filters or learning hacks like a photographic memory.)
That being said, the story will mainly and most prominently feature her academic life.
The drama and romance is very much present but definitely serves mostly as background ambiance.
The ML is your typical older CEO in his mid twenties who is both a jack and master of all trades, but he's way more talkative and proactive when it comes to his sort.
The worst he'd ever do to MC is monitoring her at the beginning since they're two people of different walks of life who would never ever cross roads under normal circumstances.
The only way to establish a connection is to make ML spy and monitor MC early on and create some intentional coincidences of meeting each other irl.
Probably read too many yandere/modern CEO novels at this point to consider this level of a ML bad in any way or form.

If anything, I'd blame the author for the poor choice of mixing slice of life at school with the CEO ML trope.

I like to call a novel that tells story of its character until it closes its ages as Closing the Book. To be honest, I don't even know whether there's an official term or not

Here, I just want to scribble a little.

Spoiler

Even though the author likes to tear apart the hearts of readers, to be honest I'm satisfied with the ending. Even though I feel a little sad about the death of the first male lead in extras, but he doesn't let the female lead be sad. He gave a will regarding the schedule of activities for his wife for the next 10 years T^T
Where the main female character can do things that cannot be done before.

Regarding the male character number 2, the author gives an open ending. And that makes me very, very grateful after repeatedly being made sad and wanting to curse the author *just joking hahaha

And as for Gu Xuejiao, the original Gu Xuejiao. Hope you are happy and full of blessing in another parallel universe ^•^

While I have some gripes with the novel, it’s a good read overall, and while characters have flaws, the flaws are realistic. I can recommend it, if cold CEOs are your kind of groove.

But, as other reviews mentioned, there are some themes that are... questionable:

Spoiler

ML falls for FL when she’s 16. And he’s roughly 20-23. That’s, obviously, not a good look. But there are some things that should be considered: FL is a transmigrated individual, and mentally she’s 18 at the beginning of the novel. It’s not an excuse, but it’s something to consider.

ML doesn’t do anything creepier than trying to meet her “accidentally”, like a schoolboy with a crush. Keeping in mind that’s his first crush and he’s somewhat disturbed like all the cold CEOs — with that usual “I don’t like anyone touching me and in general, except that one person” problem.

Nevertheless, I liked secondary ML way more. He’s flawed, he’s a bit annoying, not so smart, but he’s honest and caring, his heart is in the right place and he tries hard. He’s not as dazzling as the main ML, his family is humbler and is a bit embarrassing, but I‘m reading right now mostly to see if author will give him a HE. A good boy, deserves the best girl, who’ll like him for who he is. FL isn’t good enough for him.
