Yao Bianliang was an actress in her previous life, and once she entered the shuangwen story of the entertainment circle. The system said: “As long as the host works hard to become cold and become an 18th-line star that no one cares about, she can get a bonus of 100 billion.” Yao Bianliang sat up in shock while saying: “Is there such a good thing?”

This is really good. It's enjoyable and fun throughout the entire story. There is no romance... by that I mean there's no ML that the MC has a relationship with. There is a sort of romance in the underlying idea that actors and actresses should be primarily judged by their skill, and not by things like hype and money. It's really the ending that sets the tone of the whole story, or I should say that it reframes the story from just another shuangwen face slapping story into something much... more>> more introspective and illusory.
Spoiler

The last movie the MC played, "the Invisible Artist" is a microcosm of the whole story itself, and a reflection of the idea that the MC is unimportant while the idea of the MC in the hearts of her fans is the real substance of it.

[collapse]
I would almost say that the entire story is just buildup for the payoff of the very last scene of the last chapter, and that without the ending the entire story would be meaningless. Read this, it's good. <<less

I'm a bit surprised at the quality of this novel. At first, considering the style of most novels about the entertainment circle and transmigrating with a system, readers can almost predict what will happen next with no suspense. Be it characters, plot direction and writing style, it's all a routine. However, after reading arc after arc, I finally felt assured that this wasn't a routine.

This novel is very solid. I'll try to sum up what makes it so satisfying.

1 - Immersion.

The author was very sincere in the world building. We... more>> get a fairly comprehensive view of the entertainment circle, without getting into exhaustive explanations or infodumps, it's done organically. The nature of the industry and MC's subjective views makes the accuracy of showcased information debatable, without being false, and this is the key point that allows MC's expectations to be continuously subverted due to various reasons, to the enjoyment of the readers. Throughout the series, we keep exploring new angles and our knowledge is constantly refreshed.

2 - Characters.

Initially, I was expecting two dimensional or even one dimensional characters. However, if a character showed this face, it's only because their screen time is too short to give different colors.

Characters are memorable, I have a deep impression of all the characters MC interacted with, even the small fries and cannon fodder have this quality. Whether they serve only to show that MC is not an antisocial with no friends, or are just a little follower that should logically exist given the circumstances, they are firmly planted in my memory. All characters will have just enough screen time for their assigned role, and they will fulfill it while living their own lives, not living around MC.

Most notable of all is Yao Xinxin. Throughout the whole series she is set up as a sort of rival or even villain, but anyone can see that she's not really a bad person, just overly stimulated. She experiences growth as the story progresses, both as an actor and as a sister to MC. This is really gratifying.

In short, they feel like real people with goals and personal drives.

3 - Writing.

Unlike many novels that have many high points interspersed on a lackluster journey, this novel is a truly enjoyable read.

The tone is light hearted and comedic, but doesn't try too hard to be funny. The pacing is very good, as is the timing for explanations and plot reveals. Things are constructed with consistent logic that is easy to follow and comprehend.

There is nothing excessive or dubious to disgust the reader. All in all, as long as you don't burn through it in one go, it's a satisfying experience.

4 - Content.

The plot is very straightforward, I won't comment on it.

The content is quite nice. Netizen opinion voices different opinions concisely and in case of serious commentary, are worthy of appreciation. Interactions between characters are unique and amusing. The dramas and movies acted by the MC are things you'd actually like to watch.

5 - Ending.

The ending was very satisfying. Author neither rushed it with a quick fix, nor prolonged the series to squeeze it. MC's last movie wrapped everything perfectly in my opinion, leaving no room for me to argue. I can say with total confidence that you can finish this novel with peace of mind and you will be left with no regrets. <<less

Honestly I hate entertainment novel since author are famous in copy and paste from each other novel. But this novel is different, there is no romance. Fans are very cute. No annoying villain. MC is likable. It’s great read. No romance and no annoying ml.

Quite good novel.

The basic premise is that the FL is an experienced transmigrator, gone through many worlds.

Yet this time is unique, as instead of having to become famous, win awards and succeed in career, she's expected to do the opposite. The catch is that there are also a lot of rules, so she can't just give up, can't make up lies or deceive on purpose, has to do her best in terms or her skills etc. So the novel is quite comedic, showing the... more>> FL trying her best to lose, thinking unique ways to become cold, yet achieving the complete opposite.

Really enjoyed this novel for quite a while, but it gets kinda stale by the end, as there is a lot repetition. Still would recommend it, as it's a nice chill novel that gets a chuckle out of you every now and then. <<less

Haven't written a review in a min, but this novel is so good. It has some of my favorite elements: entertainment industry, a talented FL, comedy. It does not really have romance, which is shocking if you compare it to my reading list. But this novel is just so entertaining.

The premise is that the FL is tasked by a system to fail in her career. I.e. Low TV ratings, low box office ratings, etc. But she continuously wins as people keep on misunderstanding her actions. Definitely a must read. It... more>> is completed and you can type in the original title in Google to mtl! <<less

I like it so far. Not incredibly gripping or anything. But interesting enough to pass the time and chuckle at the heroine's futile efforts to be less popular or "cold" as they put it.

A very gripping novel...

There was some conflict in my heart when reading some of the plot, but I definitely appreciate the comedic undertone of the villains being 'played'.

Spoiler

FL was constantly going against the wave-- she wanted to be left 'cold' and quit the entertainment industry, and to get the 100 billion award from the system. She repeatedly failed and had to adjust her strategies.

The story highlighted the unfairness and shadiness of 'traffic' route amongst celebrities. FL unknowingly became the 'light' and pillar in rectifying this darkness in the industry (in the public's eyes, oh, and the villains', media's, and other celebrities') .

Only the ML (well, I'm sure he's the ML) can understand her pain of being misunderstood by the masses. Because he also has a weird one-and-only goal of losing money (which no one believes so except the FL).

FL and ML are the odds in their world, but they do not give up, yet keep on striving..

The story doesn't have any romance (just ambiguity and foreshadowing), and it focuses solely on career. Along the way, FL garnered a lot of admirers who were grateful of her 'selfless help'.

And what's conflicting for me is that the FL really isn't selfless at all. She plans everything for herself, which is actually quite selfish.. she always plans for everything to flop and fail without considering about what others would actually face..

On the other hand, she was always upfront about her thoughts... it's just other people that like to make up things about what she said and done..

And one thing I really enjoyed was the 'brain supplement' of the villains-- specifically Lu Dong, or Director Lu. He was so 'smart and clever' that he unravels all the FL's awesomeness in planning revenge against the Lu Family. I was speechless and had to snort with laughter. He literally made a full episode drama by himself. FL has no idea at all of how wonderfully brilliant she is in this Lu Dong's eyes.

[collapse]

Finally, the story is so satisfying in its 'artistic' and 'in-depth' message, that even the ending is so inspirational and moving~

This is a really good novel, recommended for reading 🌈🌥️ <<less

This novel is way too good. It's entertaining with all the misunderstanding and failure. The pacing is also fantastic, never a dull moment, any slow moment in the novel are short as possible to get to the fun part quicker. I ended up binging through all the translated chapters in a few days.

Uwahhh. So good, I even thought there was extra chapters because of the description, unfortunately, NO!. HUHUHU TnT. This was so good, don't worry, you won't get any brainholes from this. Especially when our mc's strategy every time she fails to get cold (unpopular) which is her goal is very interesting, this story doesn't ignore the mistake why the host led to such result and actually take a route, but then she still fails hahahhaha, But the explanations aren't unreasonable. I promise you will have a good experience reading this.

This. This was what I needed right now.

Comedic undertone? 10/10. Perfectly executed.

A story of an unintentionally funny female world-hopper (?) who is very seriously trying to complete her task of trying to remain as an obscure actress but failing miserably. Like she will wholeheartedly tell people not to watch her movies and the movies still become top hits. She will try all kinds of tricks to sabotage her own career but it's like the heavens won't let her have her way.

... more>> Just hilarious.

There is a touch of romance but not so much that it overwhelms the essence of the story. Also the several plots of her movies were pretty unique and thought provoking (even if she didn't mean it to be that way🤣).

A pretty relaxing read <<less

Out of the 200 novels I have read, this definitely ranks among the top 5 or top 10. I don't have the vocab to describe just how good it is besides saying AMAZING, so....

Plot summary: Yao Bian Liang (homonym for "want to become cold", which I only realised a hundred chapters in lmao) arrives in a parallel world and her task is to become "cold" which is the opposite of popular. Due to her own strength (and fortune or misfortune, depending on how you see it LOL) she always fails... more>> the task spectacularly and ends up getting more and more popular. Misunderstandings arise in the best, comedic way.

This is not your average entertainment/acting novel with face slapping and revenge (although there is face slapping but it's not vengeful, more like funny).

It's fun and hilarious but some people might find it repetitive given that she keeps failing, although the failures are not the same / due to the same reasons. After each failure, she notes down what went wrong and tries to do things differently the next time round – which is why I didn't find it repetitive or boring. I honestly thoroughly enjoyed this novel and found myself laughing or smiling a lot. It's a very chill, light read without any big bad looming overhead. No frustrations (unless you're frustrated by her constant failures but I doubt you'll be). Basically almost zero flaws to me.

The reason for her final victory in the end is also hilarious yet makes so much sense, and the "moral" of the story of that particular movie is poignant and gives a lot of depth as well.

Romance is not a focal point of this novel (which is a plus point for me) and they only get together in the extra chapters.

All in all, I'd give it a 9.5/10. MUST READ. <<less

same essence as Losing Money to Be a Tycoon. Some 'lucky' person gets bound to a system where they have to fail to make money. However, they fail to fail. Much funny, very laughs.

This novel focuses on the career of the protagonist. There is no romance in the main body of work, but the extra brings it up and is very much in line with the settings.

I usually like reading novels with elements of romance, but this story still kept me engaged. It's an enjoyable read.

The way this story builds up to "saving the entertainment industry" is very satisfying. It breaks the trope of transmigrated protagonists who are tasked with saving the world, avenging the original owner of the body, or striving to live a good life through hard work and success using knowledge/skills from their previous life/lives.

To clarify, she does indeed work hard and uses her skills from her original world to strive for a good life. But the catch here is, her task is to "fail" and get blacklisted by the entertainment industry in order to gain 100 billion from the system. There is no obliteration for failing, and she gets awarded a sum for participation, but it's a pittance compared to completion. And before she completes her task she is bound by the system rules, and must continue working and abide by strict guidelines set by the system (she isn't allowed to do anything illegal, slack off to lower her performance, do anything morally reprehensible, etc).

Every task is in line with her situation and she racks her brain each time to successfully fail and retire. Unfortunately, this parallel world has a severe lack of/or buried talent and she keeps successfully failing thanks to her wrong impression of the world's entertainment industry.

After several "fails", she complains about the skill levels of the world's entertainment industry and triggers a side quest to start an entertainment company to train up new talents (who she hopes will eventually overtake her limelight).

While trying her best to fail (and thus succeeding in everyone else's eyes), people keep justifying her actions through convoluted logic (since no one should want to fail) attributing her actions as meticulously plans (for success) and completely misinterprets her goals.

In this way, she becomes a figurehead for entertainment industry reform and ends up saving the entertainment industry.

[collapse]

A word of warning in advance, there is a pretty blatant anti capitalist message in the novel, so if that is offensive to you, you might not really enjoy this novel.

For everyone else, this is a great comedic read, and I highly recommend reading. <<less
