JP novels are quick, concise and simple. They practically tell you the plot in the title and just dive on in.

This one doesn't do that. Even up to chapter 17 he hasn't used his power and the intro is extremely boring. So much time is wasted on trivial stuff.

A very poor use of the JP novel execution.

The bad reviews are judging this novel way too fast. I guess they want a godlike MC that was blessed by the heavens and can destroy every enemy with a glance. No, this novel is slow, and MC wasn't blessed by the heavens (literally, they gave him the worst class ever, and a useless skill). What made me read this was curiosity. Unlike most JP novels, I didn't know how could he do something with some dumb "Null poison skill". They usually tell you about it in like, one or... more>> two chapters.

Spoiler

I thought it would be like Arifureta, and he would start eating monsters, getting their stats and skills and getting OP, but no. He gets a herbalism book, and realises that some poisonous plants he ate before (because he had nothing better to eat, and had a null poison skill, of course) could improve his stats. He must learn about them (because there is no system that tells him what to do).

My problem with this story is twofold:
1. Revenge stories just never tend to be all that good in the first place...
2. It is just plain way to generic.

There is nothing in this story that makes it stand out from the crowd in any way. At All.

Brother against brother. Pretty fun and straight forward revenge fantasy.

Chris gets majorly screwed over in the job assignment ceremony by getting the farmer job and his psycho younger twin Klaus got the sword saint... Klaus tries to kill Chris on his way out and Chris decides to take revenge.

Chris is on a bit of a bad luck streak but don't worry he'll soon rebound by realizing his unique skill actually permanently increases his stats based on some poisonous plants he eats furthermore he meets the 2 best possible companions he... more>> could ask for in Ralf and Esta, after admittedly a fair bit of problems they join him, he has to make an initial investment so to speak but it's all worth it. His power is not as strong as it sounds, only certain plants give him boosts and his stats are horrible in the first place because he's a farmer, ironically being a farmer helps him out when he starts growing the plants.

Anyway it's fairly good, Chris is kinda rude and jaded which I found refreshing after all the uber polite protagonists you get in japanese web literature, it's complimented by his two companions, Ralf is a really nice guy... one of the flaws with this novel is Ralf and Esta barely get any character development despite being main characters, it's there just not that much. It's very Chris focused as he's the pov during 99% of the novel

Klaus the evil twin is also a worthy revenge target, he's always doing evil deeds everytime we check up on him. The revenge plotline is always on full swing but most of the story is Chris and company going on adventures to get stronger so they can face Klaus who are being build up to be the next heroes of the continent.

Anyway, some minor plotlines or mysteries are straight up abandoned so it's not all neat or perfect but is good for pure revenge fantasy, which is a somewhat rare genre.

A minor thing is the translation site Shikkaku has a lot of ads and every chapter has a text watermark in the middle asking you to not read in an aggregator, which kinda made me want to do just that, since aggregators usually have the decency to clean that stuff, Oh well it's manageable at least <<less

Nice intelligent MC. Clearly set goals with clear path to achieve them. Main antagonist is more of a personal enemy than evil being which is nice as well.

I would like to see a bit faster pace. And author probably has issues with numbers because MC doesn't grow as quickly as he should (in theory he needs 2-3 years to have arguably best stats in the world).

Keep in mind that there is way less plot armor and for some people too many details comparing to 95% of Jap novels.

The main character is relatively intelligent and handles problems that come his way in a smart manner, as well as exploiting the gimmick of the story, being that he's immune to poison so he eats fruits to gain power. Where this fails is that the plot is incredibly drawn out and could really be cut in half and still have the same content. Additionally, it's a revenge story where the MC's brother seriously loathes him and wants him dead for mostly unfounded or at least very poorly explained reasons. Said... more>> brother is also absurdly mentioned to be far ahead of the MC in power level/growth to the point where it makes it unreasonable to see the MC catch up without it being a shortcut. <<less

Different from most kicked out of family or guild revenge novels, the MC is smart, knows when to pick his fights, and wasnt given a completely broken skill. He isn’t soft hearted and kills those who wanna harm him without a second thought and protects those he cares about with all his life. Love this series the TL is a bit iffy with common typos but other than that no complaints

This is a pretty good story. Guy swears revenge but needs to power up first. The fighting is good and the update speed is terrific. There are certainly flaws but the chapters are long and there is always something happening, so the flaws are easy to ignore.

The problem is the writing. The MC is a terrible character. His interactions with other people are more like interactions with NPCs. He conveniently bumps into 2 allies with extremely useful skills right away. He also winds up getting the exact info or item... more>> he needs no matter how unlikely. Of course, the next several chapters are spent on combat or exploration so things stay interesting, but it is pretty weak when the author has to repeatedly rely on this deus ex machina. But if you're looking for a fantasy adventure with classes and stats, this might be worth your time. <<less

It may not be the best literary masterpiece out there but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Some parts of the character development are pretty shallow and a lot of spots could use some refining but overall it's a simple and straightforward story.

The relationship between the main cast isn't as developed as I'd like it to be but for the story it felt just right. Character relationships aside from the main cast aren't really very well explored, especially people starting volume 3. Some we might get info dumps on but most... more>> likely you wouldn't get anything aside from a name or role to go off of.

Plot wise, I like how it went straight to the point and didn't try to drag everything out. A refreshing work compared to others with more detail. I got used to the slower pacing that the pace in this novel surprised me quite a bit. It kept to the revenge story and made that the goal to the end. The author only built towards this and rarely strayed if they even did at all. The chapters are pretty short so it should be easy to blitz through the 400 chapters.

Again it's not the best literary work out there and also needs refinement in some portions but otherwise it's a fun read for the genre. Although the ending felt a bit lackluster and maybe I would have liked to explore the aftermath a bit more, this should be worth picking up and reading in your spare time. <<less

The story was entertaining and pretty straightforward. There wasn't much world building, personally I would have enjoyed if it had more adventure but the MC was very focused on his quest for revenge so the world couldn't be explored as much.

If you're searching for a short story with loads of action I recommend it.

I must say I am disappointed.

The MC fully deserves tag Naive protagonist. If it was possible I would give him something more degrading. If MC has lived in one house for 16 years with his family and he didn't know the character of his father, he didn't have a proper talk with his only brother or he didn't know that his brother is a little sh*t then he fully deserve to get what is coming to him. If only he could die because of his s*upidity.

Let's be honest, the MC... more>> is alive after 5 chapters only because of happy coincidences (plot armour), that author magnificently prepared for him and not because MC planned anything. Taking into account that the beginning is like that then the rest of story will be the same. <<less
