Great gods of engagement, this novel is s*upid. It's like a demented soap opera on fast forward, and half the fun is imagining the spin-off parody genre that's going to spawn where some mob character eventually facepalms himself into a brain injury that presents as unstoppable homicidal rage. Every time a character makes a s*upid decision, he'll leap out of the background and beat them to death with whatever is at hand. I predict he will probably be a butler. With that said, I can't stop reading this... more>> train wreck, and it's a glorious mess. Don't expect elegant vengeance or even to know what the hell is going on. But you might want to bring popcorn. <<less

What is there is fairly a fairly interesting setting of a make-believe royalty, with the prince being smug about his status.

The chapters are short, not very in-depth or complex, the translation is as basic as the vocabulary used but not to the point of becoming a mess that's not English, and remains at a readable level.

By the way, the amount of actual content in these 5 chapters is barely enough to fill what would be a prologue and the start of the first chapter (the 5th chapter being the first... more>> that is not just about setting the scene). This makes it fairly hard to assess as a story, though it hints at something that might very well be interesting to read.

All of this might sound like I'm tr*shing the novel and the translator, but that's not my aim at all, as I am very happy to be a leech that reads all kinds of novels, even when the quality is poor, and even when the translation is at a much poorer level.
My aim is to point out as clearly as possible that this is no masterpiece, but it has the potential of entertaining you for a while. <<less

This... is a convoluted mess. Plot, characters, writing style, presentation, world building, everything about it is a mess. If ever you went into this for the romance, fluffy scenes, or the like, then I advice you to not pursue. You should be here only if you read it for the lolz, to what extent will the author make the story more messy, how worse his/her characters will be, how confusing his/her writing style will be, and the like. It is enjoyable if you came for those but if ever you... more>> use a logic, even just a tiny bit of logic, to reason things out, you'll regret it. <<less

This novel is sub-par at best. The author goes nuts with changing POV constantly and blatant foreshadowing ("But at that time, she didn't know that this was a horrible idea...") I kind of feel bad for the translator, because they actually do a decent job.

That said, it's still hard to stop reading. It's sort of like watching a really bad soap in a language you barely understand--you don't quite get what's going on, but it doesn't really matter because you're just there to see the overdone drama anyways.

Well. I suppose I appear a bit harsh with my rating, but feel free to read on if you don't mind slight spoilers and explanations throughout my review. Maybe, if this novel turns out to be as deep as another reviewer claims it to be, I might edit this reciew. Otherwise, I'll leave the story on my back shelf. I want to begin off with respects to the translator. Though their translation quality isn't the best around, and their stories generally has grammar mistakes here and there, the translator is... more>> open to criticism and does their best to bring Japanese stories to an English speaking audience (two aspects I highly respect). So though translation quality do have an effect on my rating, my main point here is that even with perfect translation, my 1 star will likely remain the same.

There's been tons of broken-engagement stories around, some more interesting than others. In fact, I love some one-shot broken-engagement stories that were also translated by Incarose Jealousy MTL. Though my understanding of JP text is limited, the language flows smoothly in my head and my listening comprehension is decent enough. Therefore, even as I naturally fixed the grammatical errors of this story in my head, the prose, pacing, and plot is all sub-par to levels of mediocre, if a bit lower than that.

As some other reviewers pointed out, this is soap-opera drama levels of fast, and the foreshadowing may as well been erased since there's absolutely no time for tension to build up. The characters difficult to follow/care for, the plot isn't anything special, and the POV switch (something that can create an amazing story if utilized correctly) is abused here. I'd say skip. <<less

This is a amazing, romantic, tragic, and touching novel. The main character's life was messed up from the beginning, more than people who read to c17 know about. I read the raws. The story is complex and confusing, but if you take your time to read it carefully, you understand how good of a novel it is. Read it and feel pity, depression, sadness, hatred, love, maybe mu*derous intent, happiness, and joy.

Though it's quite fast-paced, and confusing at first. It will be interesting as the story goes on and will unfold it's mysteries about Leticia's past.

Overall it's enjoyable to read.

A hot mess that did not make any sense whatsoever. I was going to drop it halfway through the first chapter when I read that some random stranger put a choker necklace on the MC, who was still a young girl at the time. I was thinking, wow, this got really weird really quickly, especially since he wouldn't let her take the choker off... how I wish I dropped it then.

That was... disappointing.

I actually felt excited about this, so the last few chapters were even more of a let down. I think my problem with it is the pacing. The initial chapters were all about the antagonists and their s*upidity. I was okay with that, but seeing it end with what seemed like a rushed conclusion made me change my mind about how the earlier chapters went.

First of all, I am so glad that...

Spoiler

... the real Marianna ended up with Didion. I just can't stomach Julius as her partner considering how he treated her before the truth came out.

[collapse]

Secondly, I'm glad that I didn't drop this one. The first 10 or 20 chapters were confusing and choppy but everything came out nicely in the end EXCEPT for the fact that...

Spoiler
    • the author either mixed up the names by mistake (people still call the real Marianna as Leticia) or that was on purpose as habits can be difficult to change easily (which is fine and makes sense but can be confusing for the readers)
    • it's hard for me to believe that people who are as incredibly 'bright and charming' as Daniel, the real Leticia, and her mother, actually exist. This is my main reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
    • I still don't understand why Marianna's father didn't save her even though he knew about the swap early on. Is this a plot hole or did I just miss the clues?
[collapse]

And lastly, the reason I can stick with the 41 chapters even though the earlier chapters are frustrating is each chapter is quite short. So give it a try. It's quite easy to breeze through.

It's my nnth time reading this novel all over again when I was bored and randomly look for something to read.... just gonna put this review here as a reminder why this novel was so bad that I didnt bother rating.....

The story is all over the place.... scattered around without proper alignment and ended up confusing the reader...... imagine a basket, and then you throw in bread, umbrella, sweater, golf stick, glasses, etc.... all of em are good, but if u look at the basket, it is nothing more than... more>> a heap of mess this is what this novel is..... it throw all kind of condecept that is interesting, but the author failed to properly weite them.... it's like he just throw them and didn't bother to properly relate the story at all.....

Overall? 0/5 <<less

The story was hard to follow from the story trying to be mysterious before the reveal (like when writer doesn't show names and the character does suspicious stuff), but in the end the story doesn't really clarify the small details that should help with building up the story (such as too many unknown people without names and are pretty much seen as no bodies but reveal important facts). It feels like the writer was trying to build up, but then forgot or didn't feel the need to put in more... more>> detail in facts such as how the country actually works, connection with the characters,

The main character is dull where she doesn't get angry and just takes everything in or maybe just wants to run away and not say anything. It is probably due to the strict queen training, but she just takes everything in and doesn't give much of a reaction. The king and advisers wanted the MC to marry the prince because the prince is s*upid, but it says in the story that the MC is just average in saying, "Although I had easily achieved perfect grades in the academy, I felt like shouting... I am sorry, I lied. I really had not done anything much." I don't really see the appeal in the MC unless you talk about her "calmness, " which reminds me of a doll. Pretty much all the characters are pretty one dimensional actually... in my opinion.
Spoiler

near the end, it does mention that she was a talent with working with technician problems, but she can't do well in school? And she just suddenly became a genius out of no where?

[collapse]

Spoiler

she found out that her real father already knew about the switch at birth, but only watched her and never came for her until is got real bad in where the people that stole her away are actually the ones that revealed the switch. She reacted like, oh, I pity you (my father since you have puppy eyes), so I'll just stay. It also doesn''t explain why the mc's actual father was helping out the female antagonist or just the people in his residence that is helping her, by giving her magical even though she is supposed to have none. At least know what is going on in your own house...

[collapse]

Near the ending, pretty much everything is revealed and in my opinion, that was the only good part that I was able to follow. I'm would be giving this a 2 because the story is just chaotic until you get to the end, but the story itself is okay so 3.

I'm not really sure why the tag "reincarnation into a game world" is here since, I don't think, it was mentioned in the story. <<less

A fairly short "Breaking the Engagement" story. Which means a fairly quick karmic retribution for the people who wronged the heroine. Unfortunately, the author tries to work politics and and government workings into the last few chapters, and the whole story suffers for it. Each chapter is very short, so there isn't much time to spare. The supporting cast only get brief introductions but the main cast are fleshed out enough that you get a feeling for who everybody is.

Spoiler

Unfortunately, the author bites off more than he can chew and focuses on the wrong things at the ending. The villainness and her entourage are introduced at the beginning, with the focus of the story on the villainnes, the ex-fiancee, and the evil parents. However, in the last few chapters, the author tries to pull off a plot twist, shifting a lot of blame onto a newly introduced character by way of magic devices and political maneuvering and pardon's two friends of the villainness with what is essentially "they're nice people and merely did nothing while the main character's life was ruined, so they deserve forgiveness". The last few chapters feel like the author ended the story sooner than expected, but I don't care enough to look for the details. Meanwhile, the first few are on a proper fast pace for a short story.

[collapse]
Final feeling: read this if you're looking for a quick "Breaking the Engagement" story, but don't waste your time if you're looking for anything good. Do check out the other stuff from this translator though, as he does have some shorter, better stories on his site (and some awful ones). <<less

Wow, my head is spinning. This story surely is confusing. There is no explanation about which is the story is the past and which is the present. Some character's background and back stories are left vague till the end and consequently leave many loopholes.

The plot is actually quite interesting. It's different from your usual engagement cancelment stories. Too bad, it's not executed well.

Now, here is my summary so far for others who are confused with how the story goes:

Spoiler
  1. Leticia is Duke Diogenes's real daughter who was swapped when she was still a child while Marianne is Duke Diogenes's current wife's daughter with unknown man (too bad that man's identity is never revealed till the end).
  2. Leticia is actually not a loser. She posseses incredible magical power due to Duke Diogenes's heritance. But her magical power is supressed by the choker given by Didion.
  3. Speaking of the current king, he actually didn't possess enough magical power to support the country so he decided to absorb Leticia's and Didion's magical power to disguise his lack of magical power since they were a child.
  4. The real reason why the king wanted her son, Daniel, to marry Leticia is because he knew that she possess an incredible magical power that could support his son as a future king. But Daniel is unaware of that fact and choose to be with Marianne instead.
  5. Didion is the current king's oldest son and Daniel's older brother. He decided to cut ties with the royal family because he was sick by her father action of absorbing his and Leticia'a magical power. Then he moved out from the palace and secretly protect Leticia.
  6. Duke Diogene was actually aware that Leticia is his real child but for some unknown reason (it's not revealed till the end), he decided to turn a blind eye by this fact but still secretly protect Leticia from a far.

Honestly, even though I love the plots of fantasy royal engagement getting annulled, this story was very roughly written. There was no flow and the story felt all over the place. For some reason, I just wanted to get over with it since it had only 40 small chapters.

All I want to say is this could be written in a much better way for the plot to be understood.

The foreshadowing, oh the foreshadowing. There was so much foreshadowing in this novel that, looking back, I'm not sure if anything actually happened or was just foreshadowed lol. But, really, it's a pretty sub-par novel. Read it when I'd pretty much gone through all of the translated "konyakuhaki" stories I could find. Honestly, it was a story that could have been told in 20 chapters, but was stretched to 40 because of all the foreshadowing and the twisting, disordered narrative. I understand withholding some things for mystery sake, but it... more>> felt like I was trying to piece together a plot from a mish mash of random scenes from different points in time. And, for some reason, the characters were unbearably s*upid- to the point that it made it difficult to connect the plot because you couldn't imagine a "noble" being that idiotic.

Honestly, if you're looking for a great read, keep looking. I give it 3 stars for keeping me entertained, but that's about it. <<less

Bad story building. It keeps on looping between the present time and high school days without completing an entire scene. It's like a collection of some hazy memories. Reading chapter 1 is enough to prove that. I gave it a chance and read more, however, the writing style is truly unbearable. I absolutely do not recommend this.

This was a great read that I absolutely loved. The only issue that I had with this is that is was rather confusing in the beginning chapters with the way that it is written. In the end, however, I do believe that all of the confusing points were cleared up, leaving a satisfying finish to the story.

To be honest I found this novel s*upid and annoying like all other readers do, but the thing is I found myself magically attached to it and keeps on reading until the very end.

Here is my personal review on it:

It has a Disney-like fairy tale ambiance on it that was divided in 41 parts instead of chapters. Leticia was like those other princess in Disney stories where she's being dragged by everyone to their pace (Kidnapping, bullying, disgracing, etc.) and being saved by the prince at the very end.

The annoying... more>> part here is the multiple PoV specially by Marriane and Daniel which is the most annoying and so cringy to read.

In the end it was ended as bland, if people would notice it both the Female and Male protagonist only said a few things throughout the novel which is the start and the ending and the novel mostly focused on side characters :v <<less
