Omg so cuteee TT

MC is indeed lovable she is become number one fMC that I like

I mean it, she is really adorable and not fake it like other fMC which is both fresh and lovable,

The romance is what I love the most, not rushing also not slow just right, I lost interest in Chinese novels since last year because their pattern is kinda same like a calculative and cunning fMC, overbearing ml/overbearing yet gentle ml, with bunch of brainless idiot green tea btch, and too much drama. But this... more>> one is really really cuteeee I love it <<less

Let's say, this is my favorite Xianxia novel with Female Character as the Main Character!

The Character are all like-able, especially our MC & ML. The world-building is so good, for the first time I want to live in a Xianxia world. The story has a great fantasy & romance, eventhough it was a slow-romance, you will love it so much. There was no villain b**** in this world, let's say only one or two, but they won't sting your eyes.

The reason why this novel is not... more>> a full 5 stars (minus 0.2 point) is: the Author is forgetting that MC's Master & 2 Brothers are EXIST in the story. I mean, come on, the Master and two brothers are a key characters of the beginning of the story!! Why the Author won't even mention them in the epilogue? I love their characters : (

Overall, this novel is a nice read. Please give this novel a chance! You won't be disappointed ♡ <<less

A cleansing, fluff and relaxing novel. I won't say much since most are said by other users but all the while I'm reading this, my mind's just full of "why can't all novels be like this"

I couldn't resist and read the raws. I'd rate this 4.5/5 as I don't think it's perfect, but I like it a lot so I'll round up to 5/5.

Very cute story, the word building pretty unique among the xianxia I read, for once there isn't some world ending catastrophe looming (there are bad guys, but it's not "omg all nine realms are going to be dooomed, only the protagonist can save us"), and the major sect are fundamentally good guys keeping the peace. The plot isn't amazing, but I'll take... more>> it over another revenge plot, it's mostly a relaxing fluffy novel focusing on character relationships anyway.

Characters are well written and not flat clichés, there still are tropes and it's not like they are best character I ever read, but compared to the average they are pretty good, protagonists, side characters and villains as well.

The protagonist despite being extremely gifted, has a realistic personality (not saying she's someone you'd find in your daily life, but her decision making, human interactions and reactions aren't absurd like some other xianxia protagonists). Also she's such a good girl, how can you not like her.

The only flaw I can find it that, as already mentioned in other reviews, the ending feels a bit rushed, I definitely feel like it could have been fleshed out a bit more. It's not too big a deal in this case, as I wasn't really expecting some epic grand finale given the tone of the novel, but a couple more chapters would have been nice.

Recommended read, unless you absolutely depise fluffy stuff and only like the edgy side of the spectrum. Translation is great. <<less

Up to where I am, it's hard to see any hint of potential character development for MC. She is a perfect little princes to begin with, so it's hard to expect a lot of growth in that aspect. Because of that, there is no feeling of "journey" and it feels like things just happen around her.

But the story so far is cute enough that I don't regret reading it. If that changes, I will fix the rating and review accordingly.

It’s funny, fluffy, and takes a very tongue-in-cheek approach to a cultivation story.

The MC has read some very trite cultivation stories (haven’t we all) and has taken them to heart. Despite everyone - including actual cultivators- telling her life isn’t like that, things keep happening to her that just reinforces her warped opinion.

The MC is honest and adorable without getting too far cutesy that you want to smack her up side the head. She is turning out to be OP (she is the MC of a cultivation story) and she... more>> is still deligent and hardworking. The author is good a world building and the translation is great.

I look forward to reading the rest. <<less

This is a lovely story to pass the time. It's not a serious story. It's very light-hearted with minimal drama, angst that doesn't last, and comedic situations. Basically a Mary-Sue novel, a doting pampering ML, brainless villains, and a happy ending for mostly everyone.

I totally agree with @charysa's review.

It's a great xianxia novel that talks about the cultivation method that focuses on your virtues. Every sect has its different focus, but I like how Splendid Cloud Sect teaches their disciples. It's very interesting to read. I particularly like the world-building... more>> in this story for the sect cultivation methods and how we see other sects focus on different aspects of cultivation.

The characters are all very interesting as well.

FL is obviously a top Mary-Sue with super cultivation and able to go up the ranks quick. She is however, super fun to read about as her personality is very rather cute. She's an optimistic girl who is fiercely loyal to those who's good to her and she cares about. She also loves to sit by and listen to gossip, the same as any Splendid Cloud Sect members. She's a little vain and cares about how she looks and the presence she shows. She's just rather lovable.

ML is the typical cold-faced guy who doesn't know emotions till he meets that one girl (FL, duh) who changes him for the better. I just like how he dotes on her, pretends that her divination is true, makes sure that nothing goes wrong for FL. He's also possessive but pretends he's not lmao.

Other characters of note, are her Splendid Cloud Sect members. Her shizun is super funny. He's shameless and is noted to be a super poor person who can't keep money and yet has great luck to get good disciples. Her eldest shixiong and second shixiong are also lovely people. Basically, all the members of her sect are so amusing!

I also like the ML's sect members. They try to hard to help the ML have a good rep with FL's sect even before FL's sect knew that the two had an ambiguous relationship. ML's sect knows the truth wayyy before anyone else did and that's just too funny!

Sect Master Shuang Qing (I think, forgot the spelling), basically the square faced dude is a super interesting character I like too!
Spoiler

I thought he'd be a villain but he's just a guy who wants to beat the Splendid Cloud Sect and make his sect one of the top ten. He has his bottom line and I respect him for it!

[collapse]

As @charysa said, the first half of the story is better than the later chapters. Once the main villain was wounded with the Star Sect thingy, the story went downhill for me. The author just seemed to run out of ideas and was rushing through the story. I still enjoyed the story but it was very average later on. The ending felt very abrupt to me, with an unclear finale as well. The extras could've been better! Despite that, I'm also giving 5 stars as I did enjoy the story and I laughed a lot while reading it. I just wished the later chapters were better!

Spoiler

I had to reread the conference part again just to understand the sequence of events because it felt so rushed. The start of the conference event is where it went downhill for me. The Star sect opening the thing for FL also made me confused. I did not understand what happened till I reread it a couple of times. Felt super rushed to me. Oh well.

[collapse]

Just a xianxia read to pass the time if you don't want drama and want a lot of fluff. <<less

I like the MC so much she is adorable af, so much so that I started to find the male lead annoying for even trying to be with her. Dude looks young but he is a few hundred years old the MC is still underage. Reading about roamnce between the two makes me really uncomfortable. That is why although I like the MC and her story a lot, I decided to stop reading. I really dont wanna see hwr together with the male lead the guy is not the least... more>> bit interesting. He is the typical stoic and cold character. I really dont wanna see a boring guy like him get to be with her im stopping early. Since I stopped early I wont know if his character ever develops but Im already disgusted with him for being possesive with an underage girl while being old enough to be her ancestor.

I dont discourage you guys form reading it. Just read it for the MC she is the best. She's one of the most adorable characters ive seen I just wished the male lead has a bit more of a personality. It would've been great if the MC met with someone as lively as her.

I really dont like the male.

I couldve tolerated the age gap since they are cultivators after all but the MC is just way too young for me to endure it.

Fucc tge male lead.

This novel is so much fun! It's lighthearted and adorable. All the characters are well-written, even the side characters, though cultivation wasn't the main part/appeal of the novel. I was still very satisfied with how it was explained and described, since the world itself felt so vibrant and beautiful, reading this just made me feel so much optimisn. Kong Hou is also very cute and center the story well, the ML is adorable and they're a perfect match for one another.

The age gap was a little weird at first but... more>> after she aged 100 years in a short while, age did feel very meaningless in a world with cultivation. Everything about this novel was perfect for what it tried to achieve, a relaxed cultivation story, it may not be a masterpiece or the finest writing ever. There were many unexplained things and action that was skipped but those weren't important to the core of the story. Which is its heart and feeling of wonder, which makes it one of the best cultivation novel I've read to date.

I just think it's so unique and everyone should read it, I felt a little regretful that we didn't get more screentime with the side characters which were so cute! Kong Hou's master, shishu, shixiong, shimei, and shizi's were all so adorable and well characterized. I felt excited to read about their short interactions every time <3. <<less

10/5

There's no boring chapter among all 158. Everything was interesting and fun to read. The novel have light feeling, no drama, no stress, just fun.

Kong Hou's personality is really likable, even people who doesn't like her will like her eventually. She also have strange luck, she doesn't know it tho haha.

Her interaction with Human Zhong is sweet but not too fluffy at first since they started as strangers who 'like the same story book author'. Plus ML is not good at comprehending and expression feelings and emotions so they have... more>> slow romance. But once they learned that they want each others, then they won't hesitate.

I like all characters, even the whole Splendid Cloud Sect is lovable, including the Harmonious City. The other sect and even passerby are lovable.

I hope it won't end. But it did. I am half satisfied and half not at the ending coz it's not clear on what happen. Idk if they ascend or not.

Highly Recommended if you're looking for a novel that is not boring.

A very sweet cultivation novel without all the stressful black-bellied, underhanded schemes that are prevalent within the xianxia genre. This is a novel that follows the journey of one lucky girl on the path to immortality.

I really appreciate how well-written this translation was because I really got to thoroughly enjoy the way the author explores the various experiences and thoughts of all their characters.

Furthermore, unlike most xianxia novels, you can really feel how much thought the author put into building up the universe that this story is set in.

The romance... more>> aspect of this novel is also absolutely adorable. This isn't the kind of story where the MC and ML fall madly in love with one another at first sight. It's the kind of story where the two learn what it means to fall in love with one another.

Overall, a fantastic read that is especially good when you are in the mood for something fun and light-hearted, and is still enjoyable no matter how many times you read it. <<less

A comedy reimagining of a cultivation world where might makes right but the righteous mighty don't spend all their time plotting to cheat and destroy each other. It hits all the cultivation tropes but inverts them just enough you laugh feeling refreshed. The characterization is very good. The overarching plot builds well. The world is legitimately magical and engaging.

Spoiler

Our MC is a young puppet princess who enters the cultivation world as a child. Her adventurous outlook on life fuels most of the action. Her vanity and empathy are both extreme and played for laughs.

Our ML is the typical cold hearted, righteous and OP. However, the background reason is far more grounded and believable than you usually get with these stories. My biggest complaint is we never get the exact story of how he and his closest friend first met.

[collapse]

In fact thats kind of my biggest complaint in general. The author does such a good job pulling you into this world and making every character three dimensional that you want to know all of their stories. And that just isn't going to happen in a one hundred and fifty or so chapter novel.

Warning:
Spoiler

this has easily one of the sappiest and most cringe worthy played intentionally for laughs romantic relationships you will ever read.

[collapse]

I strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys parodies, cultivation, or comedies of misunderstandings that don't lower the characters IQ to sell the joke. <<less

This series is a breath of fresh air. When other reviews state that it's fluffy and so sweet it'll give you diabetes, they're not wrong! Ascending, Do Not Disturb is the epitome of a shoujo story, with the classic go-lucky main character who has an optimistic mentality despite her background and a protective male lead who starts out quite unemotional but opens up while traveling with the MC.

TRANSLATION

The translation quality is phenomenal from Dreams of Jianghu. There are rarely grammar/spelling mistakes, the syntax is easy to follow, and the translator... more>> ramblings at the end provide great commentary. In the beginning they used to have one sentence recaps of the previous chapter too! I'm super grateful for the translator and editor, and they did an amazing job.

CHARACTERS

Kong Hou, at the age of 10, gets carried away from her tragic life as a ward of the imperial emperor of China to become a disciple of Splendid Cloud Sect. In this sect, her unlucky-in-money master treats her dearly well and his other two disciples become both father and brother to her (as they are both hundreds of years old). They cook for her and learn to do her hair... it's absolutely heartwarming. The other disciples of her sect are also super charming, funny, and loyal. While Splendid Cloud Sect is seen as "lazy" from the outside, they're exceptionally loving and big-hearted, and this holds true for the whole story. Truly, the author wrote an amazing cast of characters.

On the other hand, we have Radiance Sect that's strict and disciplined. While their disciples do sword practice from the moment they wake up, Splendid Cloud Sect loves going out to eat and fooling around. They're still friendly sects that work together in cultivation and protecting people though. Coming from Radiance Sect is our male lead Huan Zhong, who is handsome, cold, and sickly.

These characters' paths meet when Kong Hou goes out of her sect to explore the world at the age of 16 and sees Huan Zhong searching for medicine to help his spirit platform. They befriend each other through the love of a certain author's books and end up traveling for the rest of the story, meeting other sect disciples, imperial family members, and more. I fell in love with all the characters and only wish for more side stories of them! (Side note: I also enjoyed how there were many strong female characters in the cultivation world and had pretty much NO misogynistic views except one time when it was spoken by an antagonist.)

ROMANCE

HZ and KH's romance is a gradual one in this story, from friends to "I could be feeling something more" to lovers. The progression was steady and natural, with considerations of the age of the characters (as HZ is hundreds of years old but KH eventually catches up). I love how devoted HZ is once they're established as a couple and all the characters in the story that shipped them together (lol). I honestly can't gush enough about this honest, caring, transparent, sometimes silly, but mostly charming couple. KH really gets HZ to open up on their adventure and realize what love is, as he was pretty emotionless in the beginning of the story. HZ in turn teaches KH a lot abut cultivation and they both support each other in a meaningful and flawless way.

ACTION/ADVENTURE

I love the little tidbits of action in this series! We get a bit of mu*der, a bit of evil cultivators attacking, and a bit of beautiful backstory to expand the world-building. The secret realm chapters were super fun, as well as the sea adventure with Uncle Salted Fish. I totally pictured this story like an adventure shoujo comic and it holds true. The stakes are never really high so as the reader you're not too worried about the characters, but it's a fun time either way. Again, if I could get more side stories about quests and happenings in this world, I would totally read them.

OVERALL

This was such a phenomenal feel-good series, with the perfect blend of action, adventure, romance, silliness and seriousness, storyline, and sometimes even mystery. The author did a fantastic job at tying everything together in the end and it was SO satisfying. Definitely a re-readable series that made me smile or laugh almost every chapter.

Trigger Warnings: not much actually other than instances of battle and violence

TL;DR: Read this if you're into:

    • Light-hearted xianxia with no backstabbing/betrayals
    • Tsundere sect leaders that are actually deeply caring and devotional
    • Foodie main couple whose antics will make you laugh out loud
    • Side characters that get all the angst whille the main couple remains angst-free
    • Stress-free adventure that allows for character growth
    • A fun time...
    • And happily ever after!

MC is such a optimistic and positive minded person that finds good in everything. I am so I love with her. Also our ML is such a cute🥰🥰

So far this is one of the book I've read about cultivation that does not have drama that drags for a long time and is resolves few chapters later. There is barely any drama, no cliche plots where most cultivator novels have. There isn't any hateful leads here (to me). I like how it is a very humorous and almost a light read, the way all the characters in the novel interact and speak is very funny and interesting. Even when the love line is slow which is mentioned, but... more>> really in each chapter as the male lead and female lead interact it is so fluffy that I really don't mind how the love line develops slowly. So definitely a recommended book. <<less

I usually cannot finish xianxia novels just because a lot of the characters tend to kill unnecessarily. But this one is funny and well written. Not something I would expect from the writers of 8TT at all.

It seems like such a lighthearted novel, but it has its moments. Would recommend.

It's a solid 4.5 - deducting.5 at how the latter chapters just revolved around the romance and it felt meh when they were fighting the evil cultivator. BUT other than that, I like the switches between POVs.

Attention: this novel really only picks up when Kong Hou leaves the sect, so bear with the first 20 chapters if you find it a bit boring. This ultimately became one of my FAVOURITE novels and I would give it 6 stars if I could!

At the beginning I was very slow in reading this novel and would just read a chapter from time to time. After we met more characters from other sects, I just fell in love with the kind people that were portrayed in that world. All the... more>> cultivators from every orthodox sect and all common people were all good people and so endearing.

Towards the ending, I am only disappointed that the story became so focused on the 2 leads' relationship. Whereas I wanted to see more of the orthodox cultivators interacting and going through challenges.

There were lots of recurring jokes and funny traits of characters which I liked. What I also loved is also how Kong Hou identified all cliches and avoided every mistake thanks to the novels she read LOL. <<less

... It's so relaxed... it lullabied me to sleep xD

After all the struggles in trying to immerse myself and like this novel till the end, I decided to drop this completely. It's not because it's bad... I think it's just average at best. Maybe because I came from reading several novels with deep plots or with beautiful story execution recently so I find this story a little too simple and predictable for me. Well to be fair, it is indicated there in the description that this is a "relaxed cultivation... more>> story" so I adjusted my mindset before reading, but didn't expect I would still face a great disappointment. I mean, with a 4.7 rating and almost all 5-star score from the reviewers, even if you wear a stoic face while chanting "Don't think much. Let's just go with the flow~" over and over again, you would still have high expectations somewhere within you, right?

Well anyway, personally, when I encounter a novel that didn't suit my taste, most of the time I just stop reading, shove it to my "dropped list", and move on, but since this one triggered my novel reading OC-ness a little, I'm gonna drop a review because I strongly believe that in spite of the 'laidback' approach promoted here in this novel, which could meant it's reader-friendly (but not really), not everyone will like it even though it has a sky high rating. I will list down the good and bad points I took note of while reading it which could help you prepare what's in store for you should you decide to give this a try.

    • The pacing is nice and slow - which is a good thing for stories with romance genre, but brace yourself for a 'literal' character growth. I mean, the story started off when the MC was still 9 years old, and the actual 'start' of her journey will take place once you reached chapter 26 or so.
    • Cultivation 101... hmm, not really - Gives you the impression that this is about a guide for Cultivation 101, but it's really not. And it's not newbie-friendly, I have to warn you if you're into details like me. For someone like me who have already read several novels about cultivation in the past (under wuxia, xianxia, xuanhuan genre), I'm telling you you'll get confused easily if you don't have at least a single background about what the cultivation stages are, the pills, or the different kinds of "core". The novel just slightly touched or briefly described some, BUT lucky for you, there are sites where most of the terms about cultivation is explained. You just have to find it yourself to get an idea. But be warned that compared to other novels with cultivation setting, some stuffs here are mostly done as if they're conjured using magic... which is a big "WTF" for me. Like really xD
    • So many 'faceless' side characters - Ever saw a paper man cutouts? This is how I describe most of the characters here. Same shape, just slap some name on the face and it's already "mob A" and so on. In just a span of 10 chapters, tons of characters were already introduced--which is not really bad per se. For a 150+ chaptered novel, this is no surprise. But what's bad is, the author has this kink of inserting character names out of nowhere without ample description you'll really have a hard time visualizing them. The pattern is like this: name > cultivation level > sect name
Without proper character description or notable personality, it's very hard to identify them when their name appeared again in succeeding chapters. To be honest, I would appreciate it more had the mobs here were called "long-face", "plump kid", "brother curly" and such.

    • Storybook-like storyline - The MC is fond of storybooks, yeah, but I felt like I'm also reading one myself, but the only difference is: I felt like I'm reading a storybook aimed for kids. It's too simple, yet lacking in description.
Yeah, I'm brutal, I know. But if you would take notice the dialogues of the characters, you'll find it a little shallow and childish, which I, myself, couldn't stop cringing sometimes. It's like watching or reading a shoujou/shounen anime or manga where you have to follow the protagonist in his/her journey to becoming strong or to discover bravery and self-confidence with the help of his/her companions or friends. It's not that I dislike this kind of theme, but the problem is how the story lacks description in overall setting and characterization to make it a little more appealing and invite immersion, add it up with innocent-like kind of dumb questions/input from characters not suitable for their supposedly mature age.

    • Lacking humor - It's not like I require every novel to have gags or hilarious scene to be branded as something enjoyable, but please understand that for a "relaxed"-type of novel, it's really hard to get hooked or immerse yourself in reading if there's nothing to keep you awake. No mystery, no suspense, no thrill, from start until the 'dropping point', comedy is almost non-existent... what do we do? XD But I must've missed it, though. Go check it yourself. Oh, but there's action!
    • Every dialogue is either showered with redundant pleasantries or 'childish' behaviour of non-main character speaking over petty things - Seriously, the bland, faceless characters' dialogues is full of this. Well, I understand that for the cultivation world setting due to rank reasons and whatnots, but still... Well, it's good for character count, I guess. Good for the author xD
    • Good is good, bad is bad - Events, side characters, basically every move was made and inserted to give beauty/handsome points for the main protagonists to enhance how great they are, making a big deal out of every little things they do in their favor. Demonic cultivators are described as bad. And most of the time, ugly. How stereotypical. Ah, it's really hard to be a villain these days...
    • Romance - Hahaha.. I dropped this so I can't say much aside from the inexplicable fondness of the ML for MC from the start despite the author seemed like so eager to emphasize how stoic, expressionless, and cold the ML was towards others except the MC. And talking about the MC's personality, well, I liked her, but I find some of her actions a little naive and childish sometimes. Well, considering her age, it can't be helped, I guess. Quite different from the other xianxia protagonists I've read in the past with strong characteristics and interesting personalities you would stick to them and effectively make a connection. Well anyway, romance is to be judged by you. I dropped this but I bet they lived happily ever after~
    • Overkill - Since the story gives off an episodic slice of life vibe (at least for me) and not really plot-driven, and with climax on indefinite leave, I guess stretching it to reach 150+ chapters is an overkill. I dunno about you but with this kind of writing style and story execution, it's really hard to maintain my motivation. It's one of those novels you would put on-hold for a while to rest when you feel like boredom is kicking in, but won't pick it up again since there are other novels you knew worth your time more, so might as well drop it completely.
I guess that's all for my rant review (and overview, I guess xD). I may sound like just listing the negative points and butchering the author's writing to examine every element, but please be reminded that every one has their own preferences and taste. My standard for an enjoyable read may not be applicable to you and vice versa. In any case, overall I guess this is just not my mug of coffee.

For final words, the translation is actually good, and if you find the premise interesting and you think what I pointed up above is no biggie, go ahead and give this a try. Many love it, you see.

Damn, this mad review looks longer than my usual format xD

tl;dr - I dropped it 'cause I didn't like it much. Just so-so and nothing to be thrilled about, better spend my time reading other novels or do the laundry. <<less
